Mary, I understand about getting on WIFI but I don't know how to get online from there.
One time when I was in the hospital it was for a heart catheterization and I just had to stay overnight after it. I was in the bed by the door and this old lady (much older than I) was in the other bed. I asked the nurse to pull the door closed because the light in the hall was shining right in my eyes. When she did that, the other lady started yelling to open the door because she wanted to be able to look out the door, so they opened it. So then I asked the nurse to close the curtain around my bed so the light wouldn't shine in my eyes but then the lady started yelling that she couldn't see out the door with my curtain pulled closed. I got so tired of hearing her yelling that I told the nurse to just leave it open and I just put up with the light in my eyes. That was a very long night. Another time I had a younger girl who had her TV turned up really loud. She didn't keep her speaker up by her ear but laying down on the bed, so I couldn't hear my TV at all. I just shut my TV off. When DH was in, he had a man who kept his phone on speaker and just laid in bed and hollared into the phone. You could hear both sides of his conversations. I think that's funny that you dream you're naked. I wonder what that means? I have dreams that I'm being romantic with other men. They are strangers, not men that I know in real life. I think the reason I dream that is because I miss the way our relationship was romantic in the beginning. We love each other, but there's not a lot of romance anymore. |
Carol - about accessing the internet. If your wi-fi is on and connected, then its just like on a computer...you just click on a browser. You probably have one on your phone ..it might be safari or chrome or any other one. I don't know what tract phones use..but you could call the store. If you don't have a browser, and can download apps, go to the app store (not sure what it is called on your phone but there should be one) and download any browser you want. I prefer chrome but had safari on my previous phone and it's ok too. Again you can ask the tract phone people. They should have provided you with a CS number but you can also ask the store or look it up if they can't help you at the store. Hope you can figure it out.
Maybe this will help: http://www.ehow.com/how_8104452_put-...-tracfone.html Might want to find out about charges too. I buy a data package but don't know how it works with a tracfone. I didn't read the full article. |
Mary Thanks for the info. I hardly ever use my phone and minutes etc roll over. Right now, I have about 3000 min, 3000 texts and 3000 mb of data and I can buy extra data. Actually, I have more data because I don't use it. I think I can get on my Google account on this phone, but I'm not sure how to do it. I don't want to use all my data trying to figure it out. One of these days I'll get my son to sit down and help me. I bought this through HSN so there's no store, but we have made friends with a guy at Target who works in their phone dept and he has helped us with some things. I'm just embarassed to tell him I don't know what I'm doing. I think when he sees me he's thinking "Oh, here SHE comes again." LOL I'll figure it out somehow. I don't really have a good reason to get on the internet with my phone. I don't do much more than post on message boards.

Good afternoon GG's,
It is a dreary drippy day here today. Friday, we helped Maddie carve her pumpkin. It was fun ~ came out cute. Then she and grandpa picked the seeds out of the slimy pumpkin strings and we roasted those. Yesterday, our son stopped by to visit. That is always fun. Today, Maddie is coming over while Mama, Dad and brother go to a concert. Carol ~ hope you get your phone figured out. I don't understand either what your son meant about not sending pictures via text but to use your phone instead. Mary ~ what are jeggings? I guess I could google it. The aching is mostly better. My knee is still bothering a bit and I haven't been doing my PT exercises like I am supposed to. They sort of aggravate the aching, and I hate to start in with that again. I am gonna ask when I go back on Monday, if she can replace one of the exercises. One I do at a machine and I have to kind of balance on one leg while I make movements with the other leg. I don't think my knee can tolerate standing on one leg. I think I had better do some of them today. I don't want to confess to her that I haven't kept up with them very good. Karrine ~ glad you have found a hat that will protect your face during your snowblowing. LOL about you looking like a terrorist. Good job with your leaf raking. Sandy ~ how is your sore place doing? Hope it is feeling better. Lynn ~ hope all is well with you. Gotta go find something for lunch. Hope you all are having a good weekend. |
Hi everyone. It's raining today and suppose to rain all week. We went to church then dh and the kids went out to eat but I was tired and for once not hungry so just came home to rest.
Yesterday dh took one of the boys to get their oil changed as he has a special deal he can share with others. Then they went out for lunch. Meanwhile I got to spend some precious time with my oldest son who stayed home and worked in the yard trimming fruit trees. Last night we were on Halo duty and she was SO good!! We only heard her once about 4:30 am she came to my dh's side of the bed whimpering so he let her out and then she went back to sleep and so did we. That's the best night in a very long time. Glynne - Jeggings are a combination of Jeans style and leggings, so they are stretch material and fit tighter. But they don't really fit that tight on me since I have to get Large for my waist and I have slender legs. So on me they fit more like jeans should fit me ...not really tight but yet fit my legs well. My only problem with them like others is that they tend to roll down my belly and I keep having to pull them up but they stay up a little better than the yoga type pants I often wear. Glad the achiness is somewhat better. Mine comes and goes. I've been in the cramping mode recently but I am beginning to feel the achy mode come on....LOL, sounds silly but it's true...my aches/pains goes in cycles. If this is being old, it sure is fun!!:^: Carol - You don't need to be embarrassed about not knowing about your phone...believe me, MANY people don't understand electronics. I'm amazed at how many people (60 and older) do not even own a cell phone! Some even seem to think it is something to brag about not knowing about cell phones or computers, internet :?: Sometimes I feel strange when I'm with older people...I'm 72 and kinda techy and don't feel I have much in common with a lot of people my age! It is not because they don't know how..I'd be happy to teach them....it's that they don't seem to even care they don't know.:dizzy: Sometimes I feel like I have more in common with younger people but of course not in every way. Guess it stretches me, I have to find something else to talk about with these no computer, no internet people :D So don't feel badly...you know A LOT more about these things than a lot of people! I don't get online a lot on my phone...but sometimes I access FB, or look up a location, get directions, or search for a store or restaurant etc. Mostly I use it to play games with other people. It's still amazing to me to realize I play games with people from all over. BTW, any Tracfone store should be able to help you even if you didn't buy it from them. Sandy - Hope things are going well with you. Lynn - Hope you are enjoying being with your dd. |
Gayle, that's a cute picture of Maddie and he pumpkin. I understand that it's dark so the lighted pumpkin would show up, but I was wondering if you could lighten it up so we could see Maddie better. Or if you have another recent picture of her. I haven't seen a picture of her for a couple years.
Mary, I have a couple pair of jeggings. I also have trouble with them sliding down over my belly. I hardly every wear them now. I usually have to wear pants with a stretchy waist line. I'm glad you got to spend some quality time with your son. I know that means so much to you! |
Carol I was thinking about what you said about romance. It is true you can love each other and yet not be romantic. I think you kinda have to work at the romance as the years go by. We've been married 53 years and one thing dh and I do that has helped us is to make sure we hug daily...I mean full body taking our time hugs. Can become but is usually not sexual...just warm and loving. It is surprising how easy it is to forget to do this and it is surprising how therapeutic it is for us both. When we forget for a few days we notice the difference in how we feel and treat each other, so we try not to forget. Sometimes I initiate it and sometimes him. Sometimes dh will come to me when I honestly don't even particularly feel like hugging but once we do I'm so glad we did.:) Don't mean to butt into your personal life, but just thought of this and if you 're not doing it, it might help to put a little romance back.
|
Me too Carol but these jeggings are very stretchy in the waist too...but it's a firmer stretch so hoping they don't bag out too much with wear...today I only wore them a short time but they didn't.

Carol ~ I was fooling around with some pictures the other day and clicked on a thing I hadn't before and found some new things for editing pictures. So, I tried it with the one of Maddie. Here it is ~ can you see her better now?
|
Yes, Gayle, I can see her much better. She is very pretty, and looks so grown up compared to the pictures I have seen before. On Win7 I was able to lighten up pictures to see them better but it doesn't seem to be the same on Win 10.
Mary, DH and I hug, but I am usually the one who initiates it. I found the booklet that I use to choose our medical insurance for the coming year. It seems that the insurance we have now is the best one for us for next year too. Last year we paid $15 copay for the PCP and $45 for specialist. This year it went down to $10 and $40. Now for next year it is going down to $0 for PCP but back up to $45 for specialist. I go to the cardiologist twice a year unless something is wrong and I go more. The PCP would like me to come every 3 months when I get my A1C done, but I prefer to just call and ask them what it is. Now, if I don't have to pay anything, I may be more willing to go more often. Also, this year the copay for my generic meds went down, and now for next year it appears that the copay will be $0. That's great if it's true. I have all generic meds. We have noticed that Rusty tends to eat things he finds on the floor, and it's not necessarily food. For one thing, when we have him outside, he eats the red mulch we have around the shrubs. That's very bad, as it contains red dye and it's wood! When we see him do it we take it out of his mouth when we can if he lets us. I don't know if he has actually swallowed any. He also picks things up in the kitchen, which could be food I drop, but then it could also be pills that get dropped as I usually take my pills at the kitchen counter. Yesterday, he came in the bathroom with me and ate something off the floor. I know that was definitely not food!! I don't know how to break him of this. We had another dog who did that years ago, but then we have had dogs that wouldn't even eat the things we wanted them to eat. I know this sounds like I just need to clean my house a little better, but it's really not as bad as I make it sound. LOL |
Hugging: Such a beautiful way to embrace the entire person we love. I agree and we do hug more than once a day. When we both land up at the coffee pot, it is ALWAYS time for a hug. Before we go to sleep, when we first see each other upon waking up, and in our small kitchen that really causes tight quarters, it is an excuse.
We also hold hands in Church, and always have once we didn't have to separate the 3 oldest kids to keep them behaving. Youngest daughter is dating a former high school class mate who has been her trainer at the gym. I knew he was OK when after their first date he simply hugged her good by and said he really enjoyed her company. She thrives on hugs. When young, our DD#3 used to study scripture with me by sitting in our Master bedroom bed with covers over knees and snuggled close. Of course she has been away from home since graduating from college. I don't read in bed any more with the comfortable recliners in Living room and in TV room. Such luxury! Maddie's picture does show up. What a cutie! Yesterday after Church we drove into the city for the Boutique at Fall Festival where Pat had a booth to sell her beautiful paintings, greeting cards, and prints. She had a successful weekend. Socially she met a woman, new to our area that doesn't live that far from us and may turn out to be a good friend. All 3 of us really like her. Pat enjoys the social aspect so much that even when her sales are slow, it is a great time to be there with fellow artists. Gayle and Mary, Carol and I are so fortunate to live in states that have fabulous color this time of year. Our back younger maple is full bloom orange - name is Sunset Maple, and it is named well. With Burning Bushes in bright red, yellow leaves from another maple and lavender blooms of the Roseann Geranium climbing all over other plants, I'm so grateful for eyes that can see. May this day be a good one for each of you. Sandy |

Sandy ~ I grew up in NE Ohio and enjoyed the fall colors. I miss them here, but don't miss having to rake up all those leaves. :o
Here are a couple pics (I snagged off of Facebook ~ taken my a high school classmate of mine) of the beautiful fall colors this year. |
Started to post earlier and got interrupted so will try again. Glad to hear I am in the midst of such huggers! :D Sandy, you and your dh hug more than we do...will have to tell dh we need to hug more. :) I have always been demonstrative within my own family, but didn't grow up that way and in the past wasn't much to hug those outside my family, but the older I get the more social I am and the more of a hugger I am. I think it's a good sign. We hold hands a lot in church and when out shopping etc....but NEVER when walking for exercise....that's a big no-no!!;) I love hearing about your family...they sound so loving.
I was noticing the pretty leaves on the trees today as I drove to my clinic. Had to leave them a sample because I have another bladder infection...second time this year so far...hope it's the last one. I used to have a standing prescription but haven't needed it for so long it expired. My doctor (who is wonderful!) is out of the office so if they make me go in, I'll have to see someone else. But they will hopefully go ahead and send over a prescription before that, at least she always did that. Glynne - I agree with Carol...Maddie seems to have grown a lot...very pretty little gal too. Carol - Sounds like your insurance is great with the prices going down. Poor Rusty...I hope he doesn't eat anything he shouldn't. He'd have a field day here ...there's always something on our kitchen floor. Halo is sensitive to fat so I have to be careful with fatty things and I think she likes chocolate and that's very toxic. She's been sick a couple times but I think it was something fat when I used to slip her something now and then, I don't do that now. Dinner's ready so have to go.. |
Those pictures are beautiful Gayle. What part of Ohio are you from?
Sandy, I had to chuckle when you mentioned the burning bush. Our next-door neighbor has 3 burning bushes across the back of her yard. One day, DH went over when she wasn't home and dug out a piece of a root of it and planted it in our yard. I told him if he had asked she probably would have allowed him to do it, and she is probably going to notice that all of a sudden we have a burning bush growing in our yard. LOL She never said anything so I don't know if she noticed. It is very pretty in the fall. The previous owners planted them to block the view of their shed from the street. Mary, I am afraid I will drop a pill on the floor and Rusty will eat it. Sometimes when I'm getting my pills out I drop on and if I can't see where it went I just take out another one. If DH is around I ask him if he sees it, as his eyesight is better than mine. So far he hasn't had any ill effects. Sandy, that's a lot of hugging. I didn't grow up with a lot of hugging, and I don't think DH did either. I really don't like to hug casually, with people who are not family, but sometimes I will hug a friend I haven't seen for a long time. I live about 5 miles from the city where I grew up so it's easy to run into a classmate I haven't seen since school. My daughter-in-law and her mother do a lot of hugging, but it feels forced to me and I don't like it. I avoid it when I can. DH and I don't hold hands, but sometimes when we're walking into a store I will put my arm through his, but that is to keep me from falling on uneven pavement in the parking lot. LOL Sometimes when we go to bed we will cuddle up and watch TV before we fall asleep. |
Carol ~ I grew up in a little town called Mantua (south of Cleveland and north of Akron). It is a rural area, though it has grown quite a bit since I lived there. Farming area ~ they grow potatoes and there are dairy farms. They didn't do it when I lived there, but now they have drive your tractor to school day at the high school ~ to kind of celebrate the farming that is so much a part of the life of the community. Back when I was going to school, the kids who lived in town were kind of uppity to the kids from the country (I was a country kid). I don't know if it is still like that or not.
About dogs and pills ~ one time when I was up home visiting ~ my niece was kind enough and let me stay with her. Her one dog gets into stuff. I had left my medicines (they were in a sandwich baggie) on her kitchen counter ~ way far back on the counter. That crazy dog, when standing on it's hind legs was tall enough to reach that even though they were pushed to the back of the counter. When I got up and ready to take my meds in the morning, I couldn't find the bag. I saw a corner of it sticking out from under the door that went down to the basement. The dog had gotten my bag of meds and took them down to her crate and had gotten into them. Thankfully it was toward the end of my stay and she didn't get too many. She got some of my blood pressure med. Some of them, I guess she didn't like the taste of and left them alone. My niece called the vet ~ I think she just had to watch the dog. Thankfully, she didn't get sick or anything. I felt bad that she got into them, but I am not used to living with a dog and just didn't realize that she could reach where I had put them. And thankfully, I always put a couple extra doses in ~ in case I drop one, so I had enough for the rest of my stay. |
Gayle - Very cute picture of Maddie and she sure is a cute. Thanks for posting the fall color pictures. That's what the trees look like here too.
Carol - I can't relate to everyone talking about medical insurance as I live in Canada and our OHIP that we paid for during our working years covers just about everything except some elective surgeries; some special tests and I would imagine certain drugs but for me personally everything has been free so far. I'm sure you keep a clean house. We all drop things and have a little clutter between cleaning days. I hope Rusty doesn't get sick with his eating habits. Sandy - Your Sunset Maple Tree sounds beautiful. I also have two burning bushes that are a beautiful bright red right now too. One is a bush and the other is a burning bush miniature tree. Mary - I grew up with a family of huggers and I still always give friends and family hugs when meeting or saying goodbye. No one at home though for me to hug :(. Sorry to hear you have a bladder infection. Hope it clears fast for you. This past Saturday night it was raining here and at 2:30 am I woke up as I heard a sound. I lied in bed listening to try and figure out what it was and concluded that it sounded like dripping. I got up, turned on the lights, put on my glasses and went to the window. Oh no....water was coming into my bedroom dripping down from the window frame onto the carpet which was soaked. I got towels and sponged up most of the water but the carpet; curtains were still damp. I then folded up a new dry towel and put it on the floor where the water was dripping and went back to bed. The next day, Sunday morning, most everything was dry except for a few damp spots. So yesterday, Monday I called 4 roofing places and no one would come out for a look see and small repair as they were too busy. Apparently they still do roofing well into December. So I looked up my invoice to see when I last put up a new roof and it was 19 years ago. The next place I called I told the man that I would likely need a new roof in a year or so and would like an estimate for a new roof. I told him my present problem and he said I really do need a new roof as mine is pretty old and when they come to give me an estimate they will look for my water problem. Sheesh....a new roof will cost me between $3,000 & $4,000 but one consolation is I have been saving for a new roof for the past 4 years. He said someone will be coming in a few days and they would call me first. Will let you all know what the outcome is once I find out but he did say they are fully booked until well into December....great!! I'll have to keep a close eye out every time it rains from now on. Sorry for my long saga today. Have a good day everyone, Karrine |
Forgot to mention in yesterdays post that I babysat the two gc I don't see so often anymore. Used to babysit them quite a bit but when dh started having so many problems I think our dd was reluctant to ask plus with the traffic and their schedules it is not so easy for her. They have a nana closer that is usually available. Anyway, it was fun to see them but didn't get to enjoy them much because they are scared of Halo and stay in my office watching movies most of the time. I got them to go outside and play with the big wheels for a little while and they came out for a snack and lunch briefly but the youngest esp was very uncomfortable which makes me sad. She did get so she would stand and pat Halo's head but then a min later would be running from her.
Since I didn't get much done around here yesterday I'm hoping to do better today. Karrine - Are you happy with the care you get with your health plan? The price is certainly right!:) I haven't heard many saying they have been helped with our Affordable Care Act, but I suppose there are some. Only way it's effected us is that they cut Medicare payments so much that we had to get a Medicare Advantage Plan in order to keep/find a doctor, but we were very fortunate as also have TriCare4Life to cover what Medicare doesn't pay plus are getting a few other nice benefits from Humana. So while I complained plenty at first, I regretted my compaining because it actually turned out quite well for us. But not so sure about many others. I still haven't heard from the clinic about my sample, so I'm getting along with the OTC product for spasms. It helps a lot, but I am still uncomfortable what with that problem and the itchiness I mentioned a few days ago, esp at night. I'm taking Tyl and actually sleeping pretty well despite it though. Sleeping for six hours straight is a wonderful thing! Having savings is also a wonderful thing, esp when the roof is leaking! you were wise to save. I hope they can fix it for you sooner than they predicted. We are still waiting for our entry and think it will be close to Dec too but at least no water is coming in for us. Glynne/Carol - That sounds like something Halo would try to do. I am always afraid she will get one of our meds too. I'm more concerned like you Carol of dropping one and her finding it, but she is also a long dog so when she stands up she her head is above the counter. At least she has short legs so I guess she probably couldn't reach anything that far back really. She can get into food if it's set too close to the edge so I always have to be careful about that. Hi Sandy...hope you are having a good day...I have to run.. |
Mary Glad to hear you got to see the grandkids, and perhaps the next time they will be more comfortable around the dog. Hope you get the results of the test, and the meds sometime today.
Karrine Leaking roof? OUCH! Thank goodness you made it to the 19th year. Smart decision to begin to save for the next one. The roofer that did ours is retired, so eventually we'll have to search for another. Some in our subdivision are putting up the metal roofs. Very few fit with the brick homes in my way of thinking. My concern with a leak is that insulation in attic gets wet and molds, then moldy water drips down or infiltrates the drywall. I remember Mom and Dad hugging a lot. One of the cutest thing I saw was when Dad was about 60, and Mom 7 years younger. Dad was in his comfortable arm chair. Mom found something he had done in the kitchen to help her and came in and said "Jack, you fixed it!" and jumped on his lap to give him a hug and kiss. (she was about 5 ft tall and small). My friend was here, we were about 14 to 15, and her parents rarely spoke to each other. She was so shocked her jaw stayed open for a long time. To me this was pleasing, but certainly normal. Just got a financial zinger. The dentist that will make a tooth for my implant charges almost $1500 to make and install the implant. This is on top of the huge amount for getting tooth removed and post implanted in August by the oral surgeon. Limited income makes this a real blow. I expected $900, but thank goodness our new Insurance Agent seems to think he can cut almost $500 off our yearly insurance for house and car. I was counting on that helping toward the $900, but now will have to dig for the difference that is far greater. Still glad not to have a bridge to contend with. When we were younger, DH often would put in extra hours at work and bring home larger check. Not a possibility now. Year 3 on retirement is starting out on an "ouch". We received soft flannel sheets for winter in a soft blue that we really like, made in Portugal. This flannel, that I have on another bed and have washed and washed and it does NOT pill up! L. L. Bean has been the best place for sheets and blankets, and also fleece to wear. They had 20% off and free shipping, so I feel really good about this purchase. The new sheets are being washed on cold, and short cycle before putting them on the bed. DD #2 told me she learned that clothes made and shipped to USA contain pesticides for shipment, and suggested they be at least a short wash in clear water to make them safe to go against our skin. Makes sense. |
Feels more like the real NW today...it's cloudy and rainy. Met friends for breakfast and I had two yummy strawberry/blueberry crepes. After the sweet breakfast, I'm feeling sleepy.
Sandy your story of your mom and dad (btw, a very sweet story!) made me think of my parents. They weren't so huggy, but they did hug sometimes and I remember my dad grabbing mom and dancing around with her. Sorry to hear about the large unexpected expense. You probably remember when I mentioned that dh had work done. Cost us $8000 for two implants, and the upper and lower dentures. He's had to go back a few times for readjustments but I think they are ok now. We knew it was coming and were able to save for it, but dental work is really very expensive. Hi to everyone! |
Mary We have the money in savings, but it was ear-marked for emergencies, I guess this counts as that. At least with an implant, there will be no dentures, at least at this time. At least I'll claim it on my taxes, DH had expensive work done this year, too.
Your weather is here in the middlle east of USA, too. I had to hurry from car to different buildings several times today, but luckily didn't get drenched. Good report on my Asthma. My breathing is up to normal, low normal, but better than a month ago. Thank Goodness. |

Glynne and I wanted to surprise everyone but guess I can tell now. She and her dh were the friends we had breakfast with this morning. I've known Glynne for a long time now from this site and we had a great time chatting together. We really liked her dh too and am glad we got to know him too.
|
That's nice that you and Gayle were able to meet for breakfast. That's a very nice picture of both of you. Mary, I've seen many other pictures of you from when you change your picture on the forum, but sometimes they look so different from others. But always nice, though. And I remember seeing a picture of Gayle before when she got together with Karen a few years back. That was a very nice picture, too of both of them. It's always nice to see pictures of people you have posted with over the years. Sometimes you get a vision in your mind of what you think they look like. My picture is on my profile. Probably everyone has seen it by now.
I'm wondering where Lynn has been. Did she mention going away? She hasn't posted for a while. Maybe she's just busy. |
Had a rough early morning with leg cramps, was glad to get out of bed. Finally heard from the clinic about my bladder infection, they are calling in a prescription for me. I do pretty well during the day now because I take the OTC med but it gets worse at night, so I'll be glad to get the antibiotic.
Yes, Glynne was telling me about visiting Karen, I didn't remember that. It is fun to meet the "invisible" people who are such a part of our lives. There are a couple others now who are talking about coming up this way, so if we aren't off traveling ourselves we may get to meet. Yes I have seen your profile. You are a nice looking later and look young to me. So does Glynne...I think she is quite a bit younger than I. I can't believe how old I am anymore! Keep thinking I'm still in my 60s.. I can't remember whether I told you all..we have a new granddaughter coming in Jan. We will certainly stay home until we get to meet her and I'm sure it will be hard to leave then but we do hope to make a big trip at some point. We are going to a movie this afternoon, Bridge of Spies. Hope its good. Since I won the Fandango gift card we have been going to movies more, this is the third one for us and I was able to treat a friend to one she wanted to see too. So it's been a nice win. I hope to get at least one more movie out of it. I want to see the faith based movie, Woodlawn as I've heard it's really good too. So far War Room has been my favorite. I think Lynn is visiting her daughter...I hope it's ok to say it here but I think she has mentioned it herself before. I'm behind in my housework as I goofed off yesterday and today's the movie...so better get done what I can this morning. You all have a good day! |
Mary and Gayle or Glynne What a surprise! Glad to hear you all were able to meet and visit. Sure must change how you are able to respond to one another. New granddaughter coming will certainly be worth postponing any trips.
We just received news that our "almost" son will be coming to our Son's next month so we will get to visit face to face rather than Skype. Bless his heart I've known him since he and his family came over from Korea when he was 7 and went into 2nd grade with our son. Those two bonded as brothers very quickly. He lived here with us for a while, too. Great Bible Study today as we discussed NT James. His caution to us about how the tongue may be small but can get us in trouble if we don't guard it. Sure is true. We shared stories of our lives and had lots of laughter, as well as sympathy. Afterward 6 of us went to try a new restaurant that emphasized healthy eating. Side of veggies, squash, pumpkin, carrots, green and red peppers and red onions was a real treat. They can cook. 2 had delicious broccoli Cheese soup that was so unique. Even tho big bowl, neither gal had trouble eating it all!!! We'll go back. |
I'm still waiting for the roofer to come and give me an estimate for a new roof. It had been very windy and lots of rain for the past couple of days. We are getting the remnants of the hurricane from Florida.
Mary - Yes, I am very happy with our health care plan. My GP is always available but we do have, at times, long waits to see a specialist depending on what is wrong. Also I forgot to mention that our Health Care Plan does not cover any dental work. It is up to each individual to pay as they go or purchase separate insurance for that. That is a very nice picture of you and Glynne. It must be so nice to actually meet one of us on this thread. I'm sure the antibiotic will finally help with your bladder infection. Sandy - Dental implants are about the same price here ($1,500 each) I don't have any yet but do have dentures. I might need an implant in my lower front sometime down the road. Great that your asthma is improving. Have a good day everyone, Karrine |
Good morning GG!:) It's a dark gloomy dripping day here..but it feels more like the normal NW we haven't seen for a long time. We need the rain. I heard that it is too late to make up our usual rain for the year, but any will help I guess. We liked the movie, Bridge of Spies. One of those movies that makes you think.
I got started on the antibiotic yesterday and was already feeling better as far as my bladder is concerned by bedtime. Also no leg cramps last night but I had to be careful when I did my morning stretches as they kept trying to cramp up on me. Sandy - How nice that you get to see the "almost son" again! How right James was....my tongue has gotten me in more trouble many times!:o The vegetable meal sounds great. I love sauteed veggies (just use the olive oil spray, a little s/p, and splash of soy sauce), but will often not do it if it's just for me. I am going to try to do it more. Karrine - What you said about your health plan is exactly what I've heard from other Canadians. It is the long waits for specialist I wouldn't like esp if I'm hurting, but perhaps that is taken into consideration. We don't have dental coverage either...we could get it but we don't feel it is worth it..so we just save for things we have time to do so and take from emergency savings if we have to get it done right away. So far that (the latter) has not come up. Glad you like it otherwise and most of the time the GP is able to take care of us. Hope you are able to get your roof taken care of soon with the rain starting. ETA: Carol, glad you like my picture..the first thing I noticed was how much my belly shows! ;) |
Mary, I think because you are self conscious about your belly, you notice that first. I saw the whole picture and how pretty you both look! There were a couple of the others who mentioned meeting in person but I don't remember who they were.
When I worked I had dental insurance through my employers and noticed that I go less often now that I no longer have that coverage. The first couple years of retirement our medicare covered some dental procedures but the coverage was not a lot. Every little bit helps. Then they took that coverage out of the plan. Tonight we turn the clocks back. Everyone is talking about getting that extra hour of sleep. My body is my alarm clock and usually wakes up at the same time every day, so I will just be waking up an hour earlier, at least for a while. Lately I have been falling back to sleep. Today I didn't get up until 9, but I woke up so many times during the night. Every time I wake up and move around it wakes up DH and he wants to cuddle. I want romance, but not in the middle of the night when I'm trying to get back to sleep! LOL Never satisfied! |
Carol I agree that my body won't adjust very quickly to the change. We will be going to 8:30 AM Mass in the morning and I'm Reader so I have to be there by 8:15. My IPhone is my alarm clock, and usually it adjusts during the night, but I'm going to set extra alarm to be sure.
DH has already changed every clock in the house. I had been active today putting summer clothes in boxes and laundry. Looked at clock and at that time it showed a bit after 10:00 am and I was amazed at what I'd accomplished - till he busted my pride and told me the clocks aren't right. So much for patting my self on the back. Dental insurance would be great, but the savings (earmarked for something else) will enable us to take the hit. I checked dental insurance, and recognize that we have had 2013 and 2015 as huge dental expences years, but perhaps the worst is over for a while. Mary I agree with Carol, my first thought when I saw the picture with you and Gayle was "How attractive you both are!" ALSO, good to hear that your response to antibiotic is coming quickly - and cramps are leaving, hopefully for good. Karrine Glad to hear you can get to your GP rather easily. Really cool here, may put on flannel sheets for tonight. DH is locked in on many football games today so I'll be able to clean bedroom without interruptions. I stayed up to watch World Series last night as the Mets won big against my choice of Kansas City Royals. Now it is KC 2, MY 1 toward necessary 4 games to be won. Years ago my Son and I or my Son-in-law would sit with me to stay up however late needed to finish games for World Series. It was fun to share my enjoyment with our men folk. Both of them are now more interested in Football so I'm by myself watching and trying not to get excited and wake up household when my team scores. Sandy |
Good morning everyone! :) I had a very high bs last night. I snacked too much in the evening as I often do and didn't feel like it was more than usual. Maybe I just happened to catch this one. Anyway I took 1/2 more Amaryl and drank lots of water until it came down to a more reasonable number, then went to bed so didn't get to bed until 1 am. I slept well though and slept in a bit later than usual so I'm good. BS as usual this am.
Yes I am self-conscious about my belly. Thank you for the nice comments. I guess I see all the "bad," about myself. My large abdomen makes me feel uncomfortable. Yet it's not uncomfortable enough to do what I need to do to take care of it:?: All I can say is pray for me.:^: It's strange as I am a fairly disciplined person in other ways. When we looked at dental insurance...the problem was we would have to pay the premiums each month and still it didn't pay much on the things we spent the most on and the rest is easy for us to cover ourselves esp since we aren't making premiums.:dizzy: Unless a huge dental expense (emergency) came up all at once, I can put the money that would go into premiums into savings each month and have enough or close to enough for what we might need. I've been decluttering....yesterday I went through my closet...clothes and shoes. Got rid of several articles of clothing and one pair of shoes plus a few other miscl things that somehow got mixed in there. Even found some bathroom spray ...now how did that get in there:?: I had just bought some more but was still glad to find it. I plan to declutter more today since I'm in the mood. Maybe it's the change of the seasons although I am not just decluttering seasonal things. I need to find a better place for towels and sheets...but we are so crowded up right now I have no ideas. Another place I need to declutter is my books but that's a very big job. Not sure I'm up to it today. Here we go into a new month...are you ready to start thinking about holidays? I have two gifts for Christmas but that just sorta happened. We save all year for Christmas gifts and the check will be auto deposited into another account after the first week of Nov. So I can start shopping in earnest. By for now.. |
Good morning,
I couldn't adjust to the change of time overnight so I'm up extra early today. I've already had 2 coffee's and finished reading one of my books in my Lazy Boy chair. I have been reading David Baldacci's John Puller series. I like spy and suspense books. I finally got "The Chamber" by John Grisham which has been on backorder for quite awhile. It is still very dark out so looks like it will be a very long day for me. I go to 8:15 am mass on Sunday's so that will get me out of the house for a bit. We have had several days of rain since I had the water come into my bedroom with no further incidents. Maybe that was just a fluke. I still haven't heard from the roofer and I don't think I will as he sure didn't sound interested in me as he was already so booked up. If he doesn't call I think I will wait until the spring to put a new roof on as I hate to have it done in December with all the bad weather we have been having and hope for the best. This coming week is supposed to be nicer and warmer so I will do another raking of leaves (hopefully the last time). Hope everyone has a nice Sunday, Karrine |
Karrine, I could have written the first sentence of your post. I woke up an hour early because my body has it's own automatic clock. I hate when we turn the clocks back because my body doesn't change. I also had coffee and finished a book I was reading, in my recliner. LOL I'm going to be so tired all day and might need to take a nap. Even the dog was off kilter. I let him out when I got up and he wouldn't do anything. Just stood on the deck, then came back in. About an hour later I let him back out and he did his thing. It just wasn't his time to pee yet! LOL
Mary, I agree the payment each month for dental insurance is not worth it to me because it doesn't cover enough. I'd just rather pay upfront for what I need. I have a plan to get rid of a lot of clothes. I have 3 boxes of jeans to take to Goodwill, plus I know there will be more. I had saved up a lot of old jeans. I had big plans to make a jean quilt like Bobbi made and also some jean purses like Donna, I think it was. But I lost interest in them as I am not really into crafts and mine would never turn out as nice as theirs did. So these are jeans that I wouldn't wear, even if I lost enough weight to fit into them. Out they go! Every year I go through my "too small" clothes and ask myself if I would wear them if I lost weight. If so, I keep them, if not, they get donated. I have sworn off clothes shopping. I don't even wear half the stuff I have and don't need more. This was the first month of no bill from Kohls and Bonton where I buy most of my clothes. I really enjoyed not getting those bills. DH couldn't believe I stayed out of those stores. I have a cardiologist appt in two weeks and I am thinking of canceling and waiting another month or so. I know my blood pressure is not where he wants it. If I could lose some weight it would go down. I don't know why I didn't do it in the past 6 months since my lasts visit. Well, I do know why. LOL You know, Mary, when you get a high blood sugar like that, taking a little 15 min walk on your treadmill would help. You might not have wanted to do that so late in the day. For a while I was doing that every night after dinner but then got away from it. Sandy, DH changed the house clocks before we went to bed, but the bedroom clocks, the bathroom clock, (yes, the bathroom! LOL) and my watches have not been changed. I'm wondering if the clock in our new car will change automatically, like the computer does. I think you have to have it set for daylight savings time for it to change automatically. We only get a few kids for Halloween, 3 or 4, so we went out rather than sit here for a couple kids. We are on a busy street, plus we have lots of steps out front that they don't want to climb. We used to get a lot of kids when we moved here 33 years ago, but now all the kids are grown and gone and just the grandparents live in the neighborhood. When we first lived here we only had a small stoop out front. I would open the door to give the candy and the kids would fall off the stoop. LOL Built a bigger porch. |
Carol My car clock DID NOT change. I had to be at Mass at 8:30 this morning and got up at 5:30 am just to be sure I didn't miss my turn to Read the Scriptures. Wonderful passages that were fun to proclaim.
I enjoyed seeing my Church family, several adults I had seen baptized as infants or very young children. Fantastic musician on the piano, gracious choir director that helped me with the mic, and friends I've known for decades. DH really likes the other Catholic church for Mass better and we've agreed to go there most of the time. He doesn't have the connections with today's church that I have from teaching there for years, being on committees, etc. Mary We decided as you all did, we can save the premiums and simply pay for dental work ourselves. Besides, I noticed the price is not same for dental insurance as it is if patient pays. Glad to realize that high blood sugar can be lowered with a short walk. DH and Son-inlaw left about 11:00 for fishing. DD and I are heading to the gym in a few minutes. Want to make November the month that I REALLY try hard to control eating, increase exercise and build more strength. Anyone want to join me? Sandy |
The change in time didn't bother me a bit...I slept til 10 (although awake often in the night and up twice). We didn't even set our clocks back until today, now some are, some not. Been too busy.
We had a fun night last night...the kids stopped by before and after their trick or treating. We laughed a lot. We had about six bags of clothes and other things out to give away, and they went through them and now we have onlyh 3 1/2. I will continue to declutter when I can so may fill more bags before we donate them. I will be taking a break for a few days but then working my way through the house...so far I've done the closet, my clothes, shoes, sheets and hats/purses plus went through a few drawers. Halo was restless and couldn't decide where to land for a while last night but she finally settled down. I heard her awaken once again for a little while then she settled down again until 6:30 this morning when she let us know it was time to go out. So she is adjusting but still struggles a bit. dh is calling...talk again when I can. |
Mary Halo is adjusting and that is encouraging. Good for you getting clutter out to give space, even if you don't use the space, still feels successful.
I have two large bags in trunk to take to Goodwill tomorrow. Made the mistake ad bought a beautiful sweatshirt that is way too large, didn't realize it and have no tags, no receipt, just a huge sweatshirt. This week I'll try to sew the side seams smaller and may even take off the bottom band and simply hem it. If it doesn't work I'm no worse off than it is hanging useless in the closet. Carol Good thing we are in different areas or we would "flood" the donation spots. Glad you are determined to make November the month of even harder trying. Go. Gal. Yesterday was so warm that I walked 3/4 miles in the neighborhood. Felt good that I could and still breathe. Asthma is under control from fall allergies sending it in wrong direction. DH had good time fishing with our son-in-law. Those two can have a good time doing anything, or nothing. He was worried about DH's dizziness that had him extra concerned. He was afraid to leave DH alone to fish so they stayed within sight of one another without DH realizing it. We have a huge trout to bake for tonight's dinner. Enough for left overs, I'm sure. Sandy |
I took my 3 boxes of jeans to Goodwill yesterday and now need to accumulate some more. So now I'm definitely not going to make the crafts with them. When I retired I thought I was going to have so much time to do things like that, but I can't seem to find it.
Sandy, I usually end up buying tops that are too small. If I don't feel like trying them on, I try to tell if they will fit by just looking at them and I guess I'm smaller in my mind's eye. I just keep them to see if I lose weight to wear them, or give them to my step-daughter. She is much smaller than I am, but likes her tops big and baggy. DH's family has a cabin on a French Creek in Northern PA. When I first met him he took me there. He went out into the middle of the fast-moving creek in hip waders and I was on the shore sitting in a chaise lounge. I fell asleep and when I woke up I couldn't see him. I was so worried that he got swept downstream somehow. I had no idea where I was or how to get out of there. Then I finally saw him, he had walked way upstream. LOL |
I have hosted Thanksgiving every year since my MIL passed away. Last year my sister-in-law said that she wanted to do it this year so I said OK. Now, DH told me that he doesn't want to go to their house. I'm not surprised. He never wants to go to other people's houses to eat, for various reasons. The main one is he is a very picky eater. He is used to my cooking and doesn't like to even try other people's cooking. Even when we went to his mother's every year, I used to bake my own pumpkin pies and roast my own stuffed turkey. I would carve and wrap up our turkey and put it away, then we would leave to go to his mother's for dinner. It's just the way he is, and I'm used to it. So far, I haven't received an invitation to my in-laws. I don't even know if she still plans on doing Thanksgiving, and I'm not going to ask. I haven't decided what I will tell her if she invites us. We have discussed going away for Thanksgiving since this is the first year I have not been cooking the meal, but didn't make any difinite plans. This is going to require some thought. If my sister-in-law decides not to do it after all I will go back to doing it for us and the step-children. But I don't really want to invite my sister-in-law because last Christmas she sat here texting with her daughter all day. I thought that was very rude. She could have gone to her daugher's for Christmas. I would have been OK with that, but I was not OK with the texting. I felt that she was a kid and I wanted to go over and take her phone away from her.
I guess I'm just thinking out loud. |
Carol TO have a guest texting while on a visit other than a short answer would really be reason to not invite them back. One relative always fell asleep on couch after dinner - leaving no room for the rest of us to sit. He isn't invited these days.
DH is adventuresome in his eating and that is a blessing. This evening he roasted a huge Brooke Trout with seasoned veggies on top. Absolutely delicious. Amazed how just 3 of us at it all!!! After great walk in sunshine this morning, I cleaned bedroom and TV room, and drank several cups black coffee, stopping by 1 or 1:30 pm. Strange happening about 3:00 PM today. My heart started beating so fast, lasted over hour. BP was 117/99 and pulse 135 Scared us. At 6:pm BP was more normal with pulse under 90 in right arm, but Distolic was still at 90 and pulse 99 in Left arm. Recorded it all for doctor's visit. Feeling fine right now. |
Sandy, DH had that once but I think it was caused by a misunderstanding with his meds. The doctor even admitted him to the hospital, but once his heart rate went back to normal he refused further tests so they released him. It happened a few times after that but once he went back to taking the meds the way he should it never happened again. They never did decide what caused it, but the DR agreed with my assumption.

Just got back from three nights at the coast Had nice weather at the coast...a bit cool in high 50s and some wind but always sunshine so we enjoyed it. We walked the beach, dh flew his kite, we browsed shops in Cannon Beach (a nearby town and beach) enjoyed the scenic drive, checked out an old salt plant (not sure what you call it but it was an historic place), shopped in some outlet stores...I only bought a pair of earrings but dh bought some clothes. He's the shopper in the family these days! We ate in our condo except for the last night when we went out for Chinese. We had been to the place before but it was under new ownership now so dh wanted to try it. It was pretty good. I got beef and green peppers and dh got a seafood and noodle dish. Brought 1/2 of both home.
On Monday night I think we forgot to lock the car (on 3rd floor of a covered parking lot) and someone got in and stole several items. The most expensive was our GPS which was fairly new and our extra glucoscan meter. Plus a few other small items. We went to Costco right away and got a new GPS and it's an even better one than what we had...cost more but we sure like it. We reported the incident to the resort security and the front desk ..then after talking to our son and Donna, reported it to the police as well..not so much in hopes of getting our GPS back as just to let them know more patrolling is needed. I'm sure they have a lot of these incidents. I'm still waiting for my diabetic supplies from Humana. Was notified today that they have been shipped but I am completely out. Since I got home I've been trying to get back on track but haven't accomplished much...here it is dinner time and I still need to daily clean one bathroom, floors and the carpets could stand some vacuuming as well. But I did clean our bathroom, changed our sheets, did one load of laundry, folded another load, did budgeting and made phone calls. I had hopes of continuing with the decluttering but didn't happen. ARC is coming to pick up the bags we have ready. Tomorrow we are going to a high school in Portland where my dh will be sharing about his experiences as a child during WWII. Should be interesting and we will be there most of the day. Sandy - Strange about your bp and pulse. Hope you are back to normal now. Carol - I wouldn't like the texting at the holiday dinner either. Seems like some people just can't break away from their phones these days. I'm big on removing inappropriate thing (like toys, keys etc) that is set on the table..but of course you can't exactly yank their phones out their hands...even if you'd like to.:^: Another family member is doing Thanksgiving this year. I will just take over a couple things to add to the menu. Although I don't really mind cooking, it is kind of a relief not to be responsible for everything. I am very forgetful anymore and it is hard for me to keep it all together for big meals now. Tonight I was going to make a chicken stir-fry and rice..but I forgot I didn't have enough chicken and even forgot to thaw out the little chicken I had. So instead I am frying frozen black angus burgers and stir-frying the veggies to go with. At least we will be able to use up some of the buns we have. Of course if dh sees the rice I started cooking already, he may decide to have a packaged Asian meal instead. ;) How you doing, Glynne? Missing you too, Lynn. |
Mary, that's a shame that someone stole your things. I can understand them taking the GPS but not the glucometer, unless they were diabetic or thought they could sell it. I had my car broken into twice years ago but it was locked. First time they cut the convertible top and the second time they broke a window. DH said sometimes you're better off to leave the car unlocked because getting the damage repaired can cost more than the items they steal. They didn't get much of value from me either time.
I'm glad you had such a nice time in spite of it. That's interesting that DH is going to talk about his experiences during the war. My SIL did not text during dinner, but after dinner during the talking and socializing. I still didn't like it. It was not one or two texts, but went on for about an hour or more. |
