Well it now appears that dh just has a cold. It started so strangely but he doesn't even have congestion or tightness of his chest, he's now just coughing.
So I went grocery shopping afterall. When I got home I realized I'd left my phone at Riteaid (the first store I'd stopped at), called and sure enough it was there. So glad. Now I'm worn out and dinner still to cook...but it's just steak, baked potatoes, toppings incl guacamole salsa and chips and salad.

I ordered a Ninja chopper ...its the professional 3 pc set, chopper, processor and blender. They sent me two in one box, don't want to return it (would have to re-package) so will keep one for a gift. Christmas will be here before I know it!

Wannabehealthy 09-24-2015 08:51 AM

Mary, I'm glad that DH just has a cold. DH never wants to be checked until he's so bad he needs the ER. On the other hand, I go and get checked for "every little thing" as he says. It was a good thing I did that when I had the abdominal pain, though.

I think the Treadclimber is a good machine to replace both the treadmill and elliptical, but I think I've become too old and out of shape for it. I will not let go of my treadmill because I feel that as I age, I should always be able to walk on the level setting.

There was a study done that they were talking about on TV and it said that people who walk slowly (less than 2mph) have a much higher mortality rate than those who walk briskly. That would be me, but my thinking is that slow walking is better than no walking. Most of the time, when I go shopping I am in a store where I have a cart. I can walk briskly when I have the cart, like a walker. I rarely go to the mall, and when I do I just park outside of Bon Ton and that's the only store I go to. We went yesterday because I wanted to go to Kitchen Collections. After that I wanted to walk down to Sears. I was surprised at how hard it was for me to walk the whole length of the mall and back. I think I'd better get on my treadmill more often and increase my speed.

I wonder if you accidentally got in on one of those offers, "But wait! Call now and we'll double the offer!" LOL DH always laughs at them and says "Just send me one at half the price!" Hope you like your Ninja.

maryea 09-24-2015 05:19 PM

Well...hold on...LOL, yes, dh has a cold with a cough but this morning his lungs didn't sound so good so I called both his pulmonary doc and his primary care. He was also having chest, back and left arm pain early in am. He took one nitro but it didn't help. I didn't encourage a second as by then I was pretty sure it was his lung not his heart. Pulmonary hasn't gotten back to me yet but we got in with primary care doc. By the time we'd got there his lungs had apparently cleared a bit cause the dr said they didn't sound too badly but he did order an xray and it shows fluid accumulating again same place as in Dec....the left pleura sac. Not good news but no pneumonia and if it's early days in the fluid accumulating in the sac, I'm hoping we can get it gone by more natural ways. He did not order antibiotics since no signs of pneumonia and has no fever. He said to connect with pulmonary doctor and come back if needed. He also ordered him an inhaler to use for more comfort as needed. If it's not one thing its another...guess part of getting old but sure hate to see it...even reading the xray report makes me feel a little sick as it brings home his aging. Mine doesn't bother me near as much as his.

So another day with nothing done here at home...I think I'm supposed to hire a housekeeper...since I can't seem to get it done. LOL I have to go out again soon to return some meds that were sent to wrong pharmacy (and will cost more). When I'm home it seems I spend a lot of time online doing financial stuff, or making phone calls (appts usually).

Carol Sue - LOL no, I didn't get a bogo...wish I had. It will make a nice gift though. I tried it yesterday to make my mocha frappe and it did very well altho it's more bother and mess than with my old blender. I bought it more for the chopper which I haven't had reason to try yet, but it can also be a backup blender and food processor. Really don't need the three pitcher sizes usually though and hard to find space in my small kitchen...all I needed was one small container/pitcher really but thought they might come in handy some day. Probably just another case of overbuying but will see.

Yes, you'd better get on that treadmill...its hard but if you don't use it you lose it. I'm feeling very flabby these days...I'm actually a brisk walker for my age although I do notice some slowing down. Can't hardly jog now. But right now I feel a little more energetic than I did when I was hurting so much. I'm getting lots of cramps again..they go in cycles like the leg pain..but otherwise feel pretty good. I noticed I was able to go much more quickly up the stairs at the clinic today. Poor dh, it was hard for him. I told him I'd mow the lawn for him but he wants me to have our son do it this weekend.

Well need to get that med back to the pharmacy and also forgot to pick up some ground beef yesterday so will get that too. Dh is resting and I won't be long. I make sure he has his phone near him.

Karrine 09-25-2015 06:14 AM

Good morning ladies,

Mary - I sincerely hope your DH will be ok and that his lungs improve.

It's for sure....my DD and hubby are coming to visit me tomorrow. We are planning to go to our famous farmers market as soon as they get here and from there my daughter wants to go to a very popular country restaurant for their rolled ribs which are quite popular in my area. Then, back to my place for a long visit before they head back home or they might stay overnight at her ex-sister-law's place until Sunday so they have a chance to visit with them too while they are here. My daughter has lived here most of her life and only moved away 10 years ago so she knows "home" (here) very well.

Other than being excited about tomorrow, I have most of my cleaning done LOL.
Have a good day everyone,
Karrine

Wannabehealthy 09-25-2015 07:52 AM

Well, Mary, it sounds like DH is worse off than I thought. I didn't mean to trivialize his illness. I think any time someone his age is sick it's a serious matter. I hope his lungs clear up for him.

I bought a generic Bullet-type mixer several years ago when I thought I was going to start making Protein Shakes. I did that a few times but realized that I was not satisfied with them and still wanted the feel of eating real food so I stopped that. I was just adding more daily calories. Then I tried making Bullet Proof Coffee in it and it leaked all over the counter. I found out that hot liquids don't work well in it. Then we got another personal blender as a premium at a casino. I intended to try the Bullet Proof Coffee in that, but then lost interest. So I have these 2 blenders that are just taking up space, but I don't want to get rid of them. DH has a milkshake mixer, like the old fashioned ones with the metal cup and he makes milkshakes with that, so that's one more appliance, along with my full size blended that I only use for potato pancakes. I could have a big yard sale with all my small appliances but I want them there for when I need them, even if it's not often. I told DH that I am winding down toward the end of my life and I'm not buying anything else. LOL I don't think he believes me.

Lynn, I never used a full size elliptical like they have in the gym. Mine is a home model and might not be as strenuous as the ones they have in the gyms. I don't have a problem doing it, getting up to 30 min per day, but I don't go fast. I don't do anything fast. LOL But I think moving is better than not moving.

Karrine my grandson is coming for a sleepover next weekend so I have to get his room cleaned out. It is actually a room I use mostly for storage but we have a small bed in there for him. He says it's his room, but Grandma uses it too. LOL It tends to get cluttered in between his visits and when he comes it all gets sorted out.

maryea 09-25-2015 12:59 PM

I was just kidding, Carol Sue, because sometimes my life feels like a drama where things keep happening where dh is concerned esp..:D He is better today, I think his cold is almost gone and he seems to be more energetic, but he still coughs now and then. The other thing...the fluid in the pleura sac is my main concern, but he hasn't had any pain for at least 12 hours now. I think the fact that it comes and goes is probably a good sign.

I got two shots yesterday...my flu shot and DPT while waiting for Joe's inhaler. My arm is really sore from the DPT. Should have gotten in the bathtub and soaked it like I used to do the kids when they got theirs. So sleep wasn't so good since I couldn't lay comfortable on either side.

It's raining today, hopfully we will get a nice long one to get our environment back to the way it's meant to be. It's been a long pleasant dry summer, but now its time for true NW weather!:)

I think I should have gotten the smallest Ninja package, but I will live with it now. Still prefer my old inexpensive blender (Oster) for making my mocha frappes. I did use the Ninja to chop up some carrots and it did pretty well. I also tried it for cucumbers, but they went to almost all mush very quickly. Have to learn how long to pulse..it works very fast. I made a tamale casserole using an old time recipe (1946) but it wasn't very good. Won't make that recipe again.

I gained 2# this week...think a lot of it was salty foods.
Hope you all are having a good day.

Good morning GG's,

I've haven't posted in a while. I was getting stuff ready to go, then went to visit our daughter and her family. I had an iPad along with me so was able to follow along with you all, but it is hard to post from that, so I waited until I got back home.

We had a nice visit. The grandkids are such sweet little ones. The little girl is 5 years old, and the little boy is 18 months. We baked little cup cakes in the easy bake oven, built a lego kit. Went to the zoo and the childrens museum. Visited a historical village. Ran errands ~ groceries, got plants at the garden center, walked around the block. A couple times, I fell asleep in the afternoon/evening out on their screened in porch (my favorite room in the house), when the little one was napping and everyone else was busy doing something. I want one of those ~ LOL. It is nice to be back home though, and slow down for a bit. Our daughter and DH both like to be on the go, so maybe I'll get rested up a little now. Maybe.....I can hope anyway.

Mary ~ Glad your DH is feeling better today. Sorry your arm is sore. Hopefully that will pass soon. Hope you get the rain your area needs. I have an eliptical ~ at first I liked it, but as I aged, it bothered my hips, so I don't use it anymore.

Carol ~ I'm kind of like you ~ hating to get rid of stuff. And, it is a good thing sometimes that I hang onto things, because they still work, and life cycles around and I end up using things again, that I haven't used for a while. Like my food processor ~ it is 30 some years old, I hadn't used it in quite a while, but have a need for it now with our new way of eating ~ and wow ~ as old as it is ~ it still works. Some things, I know I wouldn't be able to find another one like the one I have, so I'm glad I have kept some of the stuff.

Karrine ~ I'm excited for you that your daughter is coming to visit. Enjoy every minute of your time together.

Lynn ~ you are doing wonderfully with your eating and weight loss ~ so close to your goal ~ that's great. Love the pic of your kitty snuggled under the blanket. I used one of those seated elipticals at PT ~ I loved it.

Love2garden ~ you are wonder woman ~ your ability to work out in the yard/gardens the way you do. Glad it was a nice cool day for you while you did it. I too wish we could see pictures of your gardens ~ the descriptions of them ~ they sound beautiful.

Hello Flower and Ms. Hatcher

Hope you all are having a nice day.

Pictures are of the screen porch I mentioned - in the daytime, at dusk and at night.

maryea 09-25-2015 07:04 PM

Went to the pulmonary doc today ...the regular one was out but saw another one. He said the fluid has not increased much since the surgery (primary care doc didn't have access to previous xrays) and since he hasn't had pain for several hours now, we will just wait. If he has more frequent pain, or has more trouble breathing we should get an xray and go in again. After we left dh noticed he was having some "soreness" in the back but not real pain. So that's where it stands for now.

Condo in chaos – wallpaper removed from about 70% of walls. They are off for the weekend. Anticipated day to begin painting is Tuesday. Tomorrow morning I leave for NYC. I LOVE this pope, but REALY hope I manage to avoid his traffic.

Probably be worse now because we haven't been going to the gym. I want to get one for home so I can trade off from the bike and I can take my time and work up on the minutes. There is also a machine called tread climber and it is a shorter machine and is sort of a combination of a treadmill and the eliptical...but you just walk on it.

Lynn/Karrine - I would like to my genealogy...a lot of it has been done by my nephew but still I can't seem to find time. I joined Ancestry.com (free acct) but still haven't done much. I find it interesting that they can tell your ethnicity by your DNA! I would think they could tell race but that's not the same as ethnicity from what I understand. I think ethnicity is more to do with the location or culture you are from. Dh would not want me to spend money on it but I do find that interesting.

Hi Mary,

Although the elliptical is difficult, I believe it is good for me. For right or wrong, I believe that exerting myself forces blood through the corollary arteries. Although I had 1 artery to my heart 100% blocked, it was not causing me real problems because I had built up so many corollary arteries.

I would be happy to help you with your ancestry. If you want, we could schedule a phone meeting. Let me know. I will be away for the weekend, but home most of next week.

DH does not like change. He is getting very frustrated with Win 10 because he is not finding things he usually looks for, and he doesn't like that we have to enter a pin to log into the computer.

Hi Carol,

I am like your DH. I do NOT want to have to learn new operating systems. I use Windows 7 & it works just FINE.

Hi Karine,

I just checked & as of today, I have 14,705 people in my family tree. I also have 9 other trees that I work on (friends, family, and famous people with whom I believe I am related). The first 4 generations back on all lines are well-documented. After that, some information is “firmer” than other information. When I started, I thought I was 100% Irish. At this point, I know that I am no more than 1/8 Irish. Ancestors were from England, Germany, France, Scotland, Holland, and Ireland. I have quite a few interesting “characters” in my tree.

Hi Mary,

This program I am following includes a smoothie every day. I started using a Nutri-Bullet, but my cup was not large enough to hold all the ingredients. (Used to have a larger cup, but got rid of it bc I never used it.) Therefore, I have been making my smoothies in my blender. This makes for a good 10-minute-clean-up. So, I ordered a large cup for the Nutri-Bullet. Came last week – MUCH faster clean-up. Only problem is device seems to be heating up.

Hi Carol,

I am not sure I will ever get back up to 30 min on the elliptical. I set it to “cardio” and it pauses when my heart-rate goes over 135. I don’t stop, but it releases all tension until my heart-rate comes back down. After 6 minutes, I am pretty done-in. I have to sit down & get my breathing back to normal before I can move on to the treadmill.
Do you have any details about this research? Did they offer any theories about why this would be? I started Tai Chi last night. This is VERY slow, but this morning, I was surprised at how still I was. Didn’t feel like I was doing anything exerting while I was doing it.

Hi Gayle,

I LOVE porches. Your's looks very inviting. Do you use it a lot?

glynne 09-25-2015 10:36 PM

Lynn ~ the porch is at my daughter's home in SC where we just visited. I love it ~ it was my favorite room at her house. I wish we had one like it.

love2garden 09-25-2015 11:54 PM

Gayle What a BLESSING you were back on your medicine so you could enjoy all the activity at your daughters. No wonder you had a nap in that wonderful screened porch. I remember one in a house we rented - had a swing, too, and was a great pace to rock our first born to sleep (and be careful I didn't nod off, too.

Mary Prayers offered that your DH will be ok and the fluid doesn't build up any more. Do they try to drain it? Why did you get the DPT shot?

Very sleepy and tired with hours watching the Pope Francis in NY then going to garden for several hours in the cool evening. Got to get to bed. Bit sore, but sleep should take care of hat.

Carol I'll catch up with yo and Lynn tomorrow.

maryea 09-26-2015 03:37 PM

Got a fairly good night's sleep last night. Dh isn't coughing as much and although we were on Halo duty it went pretty well. I woke up once and heard dh up and scolding her so apparently she had been barking, but she settled down then until 7:30 when I let her out. She does not wake up because of her bladder...she can go a very long time that way...she just wants to get out and hunt, yet she doesn't want to stay out all night. :dizzy:

Glynn - I too love the closed in porch..in fact just the other day I was thinking perhaps we should do that. Doubt we ever will. We have too many other things that we need done in our old house to do extras. Once we get the entry done, we will start saving for siding. Anyone have any recommendations/experiences on types of siding?

Sandy - As to the pleura effusion, they can drain it, but when I ask the doctor yesterday he referred to surgery and said that they would have to weigh the benefits to his age. At this point dh is still very active. The cold has slowed him down a bit the last few days but last week he worked very hard dethatching the front lawn. Did a lot of it manually which our son said would be very hard even for him to do, and then used our old mower which has a dethatching accessory on it to do the rest. Yesterday all he could do was flatten some cardboard boxes and today he has blown the patio and broke down things (big plastic) for the recycling. He is not one to sit around even when not so well. I know he does not want more surgery though, so will just take it one day at a time. If the fluid stays at the current level it may just ache now and then and he will have to live with it. If it gets worse I thought perhaps they might drain some of it off as they did do that in the hospital after the surgery as doing the surgery actually created some more fluid in there. This is just what I think not what the doctor said.

I got the DPT shot for the whooping cough protection. If you haven't had whooping cough, I can tell you it is awful. I had it as a child and still remember and they say you can get it again. I didn't need tetanus but they said it's ok to get it again and mine was in 2009.

Lynn - I agree about the arteries...the more blood vessels we build up and can keep open the less chance of a fatal heart attack. I'm hoping I can get the eliptical I want...it was last year's model and smaller than the current one. I don't have much room. If I can't get it, then I might get the treadclimber instead. In time I might even sell my recumbent bike and get the eliptical if the bike keeps hurting my knees. My son says though it just means the seat needs adjusting, so going to play around with that first.

As to the genealogy - I appreciate your offer of help, but I have no idea when I'll get to it. Right now I have way too much going on to focus on it. My nephew did a lot on it, and I do have a copy of his work at least.

I have considered the Nutri-bullet and may look at it again when I need something to make my frappes. My current blender works well, and I don't take it apart to wash it, just put in the dishwasher or quickly wash by filling part way with warm water and a drop of dish soap and blending for about 13 sec. Then wipe clean and dry. I do it that way when it is inconvenient to put in the dishwasher. Every now and then I can smell a bad odor in it and then I do take it apart...the rubber band, chopper and cap and give it a more thorough washing. This happens when water or milk gets in there I think. Obviously it would be better to take it apart each time but I don't. I am the only one who uses it and this works for me. It is the Ninja chopper/processor/blender that is more trouble to me. I put it in the dishwasher too but have to put in all the parts and remove them each time. Have to be VERY careful with the blades as they are very sharp! Once I bought the big Ninja blender set and cut my finger on a blade. I returned that set because I didn't feel it was any better for my purposes and I actually didn't like that the blades were so sharp! I will use this Ninja mostly as a chopper and perhaps a food process (rarely) but will only use it as a blender when my current blender gives out. Even then I'll probably look for another like the Nutri-bullet perhaps.

Carol Sue - 30 min on the eliptical is great. I would be totally bored doing it slow for that long though...that's just me. I can't even stand to walk the track very long and I walk fairly briskly...physically I can go two miles outside but walking on the track is way too boring for me even though we have huge windows to look out. I have the same problem on the bike but I have it set at 10, go as fast as I can and the most I have done is 33 min while watching TV. I expected to read while biking like at the gym, but the lighting in our family room is too poor.

Well, need to get to work. I have neglected my house so badly for the last few weeks now.

Karrine 09-27-2015 06:52 AM

Good morning ladies,
Well, my daughter and hubby's visit was great. When we went to the country restaurant I was telling you about we all had the rolled ribs with scalloped potatoes; veggies and coleslaw then came back to my place. I was kidding my daughter about being "the inspector" and that I spent 2 days cleaning the house . Well that set her off in a funny tour of the house. Too funny: I didn't clean my kitchen sink well enough and I forgot to dust my lamp shades. We all laughed. They want me to go to their place for Thanksgiving dinner so we'll see. It is only a 2-1/2 hour drive but I hate driving on those big highways.

Carol - I hope you enjoy your grandson's sleepover visit. I think we all tend to clutter up unused spaces until we need them....at least I do too.

Mary - I'm glad your DH has periods of improvement in his health in that it comes and goes and that especially keep a good eye on him. I'll continue to keep him in my prayers.

Gayle - seems that i a few of us ladies who are having family visits. We should all cherish these times especially if it isn't too often. Great pics of your daughter's screen porch. Great for sitting outside when it rains.

Lady in Waiting: I too have wallpaper and how big a mess it is to strip and get all the glue off the walls. Have a good time in NYC. I would love to go there and I've watched the CNN broadcasting on the pope each day. What a warm welcome he is getting. Wow that you have almost 15,000 people in your family tree and that you also do work for others. My tree only has 5,000 in it so far but I do just try to stick to my own family and try not to get side tracked which is so easy to do as I'm sure you know. With each family you have to decide which side to keep researching on. I too, have some very colorful people in my tree and know that my ancestors from Switzerland were once noblemen and we even had our own castle. Of course back in those days there were 100's of castles, most of which have been torn down.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone,
Karrine

Wannabehealthy 09-27-2015 09:52 AM

Gayle, about a year ago there was a house for sale up the street and I wanted to buy it. It had a screened in porch and the house was all on one floor, no basement. DH did not want to downsize in that way. He has always had a basement and still wants one. I was thinking of the future as we age, and it had a wheel chair handicap accessible shower, which I thought would be good, just in case. It's so hard to make changes to your home if you eventually need these things. I pictured myself sitting out on that screened in porch.

Glad you enjoyed your visit.

Mary, the way I have my exercise room set up I can watch my soaps while I'm exercising, so I don't get bored and before I know it I have gone 20-30 min on each, the treadmill and elliptical without even realizing it. I could be sitting in my recliner watching the shows, or I could be on my exercise equipment. Which is better? Hmmmm?

I guess it would be healthier for me to go faster, but then I would tire out sooner and not be able to exercise as long. I don't know which one is better or if it even matters. When I was younger, like in my 40s I went much faster. I did the treadmill at 4.5 MPH for 45 minutes. Sweating profusely, huffing and puffing. That was before my heart issues started. Maybe if I had kept that up I wouldn't have had the heart issues.

Lynn, the comment about the study was just made during a news report and they didn't give any details about the study. It's one of those things that "anyone can say anything" and who knows if it's really true.

My heart rate doesn't go anywhere near 135 anymore. I'm embarassed to say what it is, but I take a beta blocker to slow my heart rate, so it starts out slower than most others and therefore doesn't go as high as others. This is just my belief. I go slower because I don't want my husband to come downstairs and find me lying on the floor. The one day that my dog ran away and I was chasing him up the street, I didn't even know I could still run like that. My heart was really pounding and my neighbor was worried about me. But when I told the cardiologist about it he said "We will have to get your dog to run away more often if it's going to get you to move like that!" LOL

I don't remember. Did you have bypass surgery or stents? Did you go to Cardiac Rehab afterwards? I did, and when they first started me out they had me going even slower on the treadmill than I was accustomed to and I kept trying to go faster, but they were monitoring my heart on a computer screen and did not want me going faster. My cardiologist told me that walking is different from other exercises. It increases the blood flow in the arteries in your legs and forces the body to create other small blood vessels to take up the slack. I don't think Tai Chai is considered cardio and is slower paced, but it is still a good form of exercise and is probably for balance, stress, and stretching rather than heart strengthening. Don't stop it, but keep up your cardio too.

The reason I wanted to get a computer with Win 10 is because in the past we had XP on several computers and never wanted to update. Eventually, they announced that they were not longer going to maintain XP and if you continued with it your computer would be at risk. I'm afraid that would eventually happen with 7 and I wanted to be one step ahead. There are a few things we don't like about 10, but I am very flexible with change. I just adapt and not let it upset me like he does. Also, laptops are becoming so popular that there doesn't seem to be as many desktops offered for sale. I don't mind a laptop in a pinch, but prefer a desk top.

Karrine, I am not looking forward to my GS's overnight visit. My DIL has seen our new dog at her place where he really is on his best behavior. But when the same people come to our house he is horrible. He barks and growls constantly the whole time they are here, even if it is for hours at a time. I don't know how to stop him. I don't know if we are going to get any sleep. Also, I am afraid to let my GS sleep in his room alone with the dog on the loose in the house. I might have him sleep with DH and I will sleep in GS's bed in the other room. The dog is very attached to me and will stay where I am, but I don't know what we will do if he doesn't stop barking so we can sleep. I even thought about DH taking GS to a hotel for the night. DH thinks this is all no big deal, but he will care when the time comes and no one gets any sleep all night. My grandson is very active and expects DH to play hard with him, and keep going and going. DH is 72 and getting too old for that. I can't wait until this is overwith. DH will not tell them no when they ask us to babysit. Her parents take him a lot more often than we do but I think they are going to be out of town. They are even older than we are but I think Grandma is very strict and puts her foot down and makes him listen. My DH doesn't believe in putting his foot down. LOL He says grandparents are supposed to let the kids do whatever they want. They are not little for very long.

Mary, I'm getting ads in-between the posts. I never got this before. Do you know how I can get rid of them?

maryea 09-27-2015 06:28 PM

Carol Sue are you getting pop-ups? I am not getting them, only ads on the side and top. You might have picked up some malware/virus so you should run a scan just in case. You probably already have protection but you can get it free and even run a scan online. Just google for a virus and/or malware protection since I don't know which it is, but some cover both. Also do you have a popup blocker software? If you do it will just auto block them as they come up. It tells you if it happens though and I haven't seen that.

Wannabehealthy 09-27-2015 07:14 PM

I don't think they are pop-ups. I always got ads on the top and sides, but these are in between the posts, like I see about 10 posts per screen, and there's an ad between post 5 and 6. I have never had that before on my other computer.

maryea 09-27-2015 08:01 PM

Oh I see...no I don't see them. I'd run a scan for a virus or malware. This is your new computer? It could have come with a virus on malware on it ..that happens.

glynne 09-27-2015 08:32 PM

Carol ~ I have seen those, but it is if I have logged out and forgotten to log back in.

maryea 09-28-2015 02:53 PM

Did you see the blood moon last night? We saw a very large luminous moon but it was not red. I was glad I got to see the super moon though. Otherwise yesterday was kind of a difficult day dealing with some family issues pushed on us. During this, Dh had high BP and pain radiating down his left arm, I gave him a nitro and it eased. This morning we didn't get to the gym again because of a miscommunication. I asked dh if he thought he could go and he seemed reluctant so I let it go and this morning he says he said we were going and when I got up (late) he was all dressed for the gym but he won't go if I get up past 8 am.

Dh has not been getting his diabetic supplies since we started the new insurance so after many tries he called our insurance company and got started with their program (which we didn't know about). I will probably be changing too, but so far have not had a problem. I'm also cancelling The Food Lovers Diet...it's a great program, best I've ever seen, so simple and works when I work it but I just don't stick to it as the day rolls on. So no use paying for it. I may try it again some day. I have printed out the rules and know how to do it now so hopefully I can do it on my own at least as much as I'm doing it now.

Carol Sue - Hope things work out with the dog and gs at your house! We had a break from our dog last night but she came home early this morning. She came in to say good morning as our door was open. Funny about what the doctors said after your running after the dog! :D I too need to move more. I feel like I am probably getting very out of shape. Did ride my bike yesterday for about 15 min. My heart rate goes up very fast...I got to 135 in about 2 min on the bike. Shows how unfit I am. When I see it getting too high I slow down a bit.

I too believe in thinking ahead...with our new door we are getting the lever type opener rather than a knob in case our hands become arthritic. Dh already has arthritis but so far is able to use knobs and open jars etc, but you never know in the future. I don't have arthritis in my hands yet as far as I know.

Did you see that there is a laptop mode in Win 10? I accidentally saw it once when I was just playing around. It comes up on the right hand side but I forgot now what I clicked on. I like to play around when I can as I learn that way. I haven't yet found any reason for me to use the laptop mode though.

Well much to do today so better get busy. Have a good day, all of you!

love2garden 09-28-2015 04:23 PM

Mary Frightening for DH to have high BP and pain, too. Hope the insurance and medication needs are solved soon.
I'm pleased that you can walk up to 2 miles on a track, still! Wish I could. I'm up to a mile and with cooler weather coming in I'll be trading the gardening for more walking.

Wow! You got to see that special Blue Moon? We have such cloudy skies that there wasn't a sign of it, but Ted saw it while watching a NFL foodball game one TV.

Carol Hope you survived the visit last night, and that you actually received some peace to sleep. Sympathy on the issues with DH wanting to spoil the little ones, and them growing older and accustomed to getting their own way. OUCH. My husband was much the same but I often went to our son's home to babysit while they were young. They lived in the neighborhood then and I could walk home easily. I was strict and followed same ways I did with our kids.

As the kids got older we'd have one at a time and our grand son slept in TV room and so did DH. Don't know what they did, but snack papers filled the garbage cans. Our granddaughter would sleep in sleeping bag in the Master Bed room or the spare bedroom if it was empty and she did fine. DH would take her "shopping" and she loved the long process of opening all the packages from his lavish spending. Of course he was still working then, and so was I.

Wallpaper? Never had it on any walls in any place we lived. Sounds like I was lucky.

New doors with leaver handles are such a blessing. We have those all over our home, thanks to DH exchanging them about 10 or 15 years ago.

This morning I spent 4 hours in garden. Digging up more plants to divide and plant elsewhere. Surprised how terribly hard some areas were to dig because of the lack of rain in past months. Even the bit yesterday did little to soften the soil. Now have lavender blue Geranium (actually 3 because when I dug up the one it fell into 3 parts). It balances the one that blooms continuously on the other side of the burning bush.

Also took beautiful Patriot Hosta that was exposed to too much sun and moved it under the Crab Tree where it brightens the shadows and will thrive. Added 3 more Variegated Liropi to back fence line. Now the spikes of deep lavender are so beautiful among the ferns.

Karrine Good to hear about your enjoyment of your daughter's visit. Laughing is so refreshing. We planned on our youngest daughter being here this weekend, but she ate bad salmon and was very ill.

Peanut butter recall? Any real info? We eat a lot of Peanut Butter so I don't want to get more till I know for sure.

I'm sore, but happy to still be able to do as much as I do in the garden.
Tomorrow I go to the GYN and get Mammogram, glad to get that over with. If it is close to lunch time when we get thru, I'd love to go to our favorite Indian Restaurant in the city that we avoid most of the time.

ladyinweighting 09-28-2015 08:50 PM

HI Everyone,

Had a WONDERFUL trip to NYC. Great outside café for lunch. The One-Day-University was GREAT - lecture on the 8 books that changed the world - The Bible, The Odyssey, The Divine Comedy, Hamlet, To the Lighthouse, Catch 22, The Invisible Man, and To Kill a Mockingbird - was VERY interesting & well-presented.

After the class, we went to a film festival & voted on 7 short films. Next day, got tickets for an off-Broadway play in Greenwich Village. We had time to kill, so found an independent cinema down in the Village & saw The Prophet (about the FLDS cult & Warren Jeffs) - VERY chilling movie. Had lunch at a nice Italian restaurant near our theater & went to the play - The Flick.

Hotel, restaurants, events, transportation, my travel partner, even the weather were all GREAT!

Only problem was timing for meals. Both nights held off on eating supper too long & ended up eating pizza one night & snacks the 2nd night.

Despite the eating glitches, it was a FANTASTIC weekend.

Lynn

Wannabehealthy 09-28-2015 09:16 PM

Glad you had a nice NY trip, Lynn. Lots of interesting things to do. Don't worry about food.

Sandy, my grandson's sleep over isn't until Saturday. I am just starting to worry early. It would be so much better if we went and stayed at their house to babysit, because the dog behaves there. But DH wouldn't do that and John likes to come to our house.

Mary, I sure hope DH is OK. When I went to the ER before I had my open-heart surgery my PCP told me I should have taken nitro instead of coming to the ER. I rarely think to take the nitro though I have done it a couple times and so has DH. The directions say to take the nitro and if no relief after 3 pills, then go to the ER. I skip steps 1-3 and go directly to the ER. LOL

Gayle, I was reading up about inflammation because of my psoriasis. I am reading Wheat Belly for the second time and noticing things I didn't notice the first time. He said that wheat raises acidity along with meat, and vegetables add more alkeline, and you need your body to be on the alkeline side to fight inflammation. So you should eat less meat, no wheat and more vegetables. I think that's part of the idea about Eat to Live. I rarely eat fruit, but I was reading about histamine blocking foods and several fruits are mentioned, so maybe I'll start adding them. Now that cooler weather is coming I can get back to making the roasted vegetables that I love. Are you still feeling better with this way of eating? Is Steve? Is he sticking to it, too?

Karrine 09-29-2015 06:52 AM

Good morning ladies,

Carol - What breed is your dog? That really is too bad that whenever you have company he is so misbehaved and hard to deal with. Wish you good luck for your GS visit. Let us know how it goes.

Mary - Thank you for keeping all of us up to date on your DH's health. You seem to be coping well with it all. How wonderful that you can walk up to 2 miles on a track. I sure am paying for my past smoking days as my COPD is really quite bad and interferes with everything I do. I can't walk more than 15 min on my treadmill which is almost l mile but holding on to the bars. I have to take so many breaks doing just the simplest tasks around the house.

Sandy - sorry to hear your youngest daughter wasn't able to visit because of possible food poisoning. I haven't heard anything about a Peanut Butter recall.

Lynn - Your NYC trip sounds wonderful and glad you had a good time.

Friends of mine from church have invited me to their place for brunch today so I won't have to make any dinner plans for this evening. Just left overs.
My DD is keeping the "Kitchen Bouquet" that a friend of mine bought for me in the US and gave to my daughter to bring to me. It is for making good gravy and you can't buy it in Canada anymore. She accidentally on purpose forgot to bring it to me when she came to visit last weekend so if I go to her place for Thanksgiving I'll grab it lol. Another funny incident between DD and me. She used it herself when making a roast beef and now wants it LOL.

HAVE A GOOD DAY EVERYONE,
Karrine

maryea 09-29-2015 03:34 PM

I took some med last night to relieve my itchiness and it apparently helped as I slept pretty good and got up later than usual. It's a beautiful sunny day. Dh just left to get gas and pick up some OTC cramp med for me. I'm in one of my cramp cycles although so far haven't had one of the really bad kind. We will be on Halo duty the next two nights so I hope she will be good. Dh hasn't complained of any more pain but I can tell he's a little short of breath.

Karrine - I can walk up to two miles but not on the track because I get too bored on the track. I can walk that far outside where there are interesting things to see and talk about. On the track, dh wears a headphone and listens to music so we can't talk, plus I walk much faster than he so we don't usually walk together anyway. I don't care about listening to music and with no one to talk with I get bored. A few months ago we went to a resort where there was trail not far from the resort and we walked it together. We both really enjoy that type walking however dh did get pretty tired and had to rest frequently towards the end. I think it was at least 2 miles, maybe three. I don't mind stopping briefly because I love being out there with nature. Karrine, on the treadmill (which I haven't used for a long time), I hold onto the bars too. Not because of my breath but because I fell once when I didn't. My balance has never been the best and esp these days I have to be kind of careful. Funny thing...the other night when I was looking for the moon, I was walking around the back yard looking up, lost my balance and was flailing around trying to regain it...I didn't fall but thought I was going to for little bit ....must of looked funny if someone was watching me...they might have thought I was drunk! :D I know what Kitchen Bouquet is...think I have some around here...it is for making the gravy brown.

Carol Sue - Only recently has dh began to use the nitro now and then...I think he's tried it three times. The first time he didn't tell me just told me later and said it didn't work. At that time we thought he was having heart pain and I told him after ten min if it didn't work he should have tried another. I also told him to let me know that he's taken it. After the second one I might give him a third but I'd take him in or call 911 depending on his condition. He second time he took it, he did tell me, it didn't work but by then I was sure it was his lungs, not his heart. Dh had a friend (a much younger man) who kept taking Nitro and kept working and by the end of the day he was dead. We will never forget that, it was so sad and likely unnecessary if he'd gone to the ER sooner.

Lynn - Glad you had a nice outing in NYC. One day I hope to visit there. Dh and I were talking about that the other day.

Sandy - We missed the red moon because of clouds...by the time we saw it it was white, large and luminous. It was called a super moon too because of the size. My dd and son got to see it when it was red, but I was happy to see it at all. You are amazed by my walking two miles but I am amazed by your gardening four hours! I would not be able to do that. I haven't heard of any PB recall. I too eat a lot of PB...my favorite kind (and only one I buy anymore) is Adams No-Stir Creamy. No sugar and tastes so good to me.

My weight dropped back down today. I think it's mostly sodium that makes me go up and down so much. I'm on two diuretics so you'd think they would take care of it but I still fluctuate a lot.

Bye for now...

love2garden 09-29-2015 04:07 PM

Mary Gardening season will soon be over, but walking season lasts far longer. I'm still impressed. However, I agree with you that walking in areas that have interesting surroundings make the walk quite a bit of fun. We have a walking park not far from the Church. Some Wednesdays when I go to 9:00 AM Mass I will go to walk among the trees and beside the lakes. Don't worry about how far, simply enjoy the experience.

What wonderful med did you find to relieve ichiness? I could use some.

Carol DH has been interested in eating more foods for alkaline body instead of acid body. He even puts a 1/8 tea. soda in his ground coffee per pot (for 8 to 10 cups) I've grown accustomed to the taste and drink it black.

Lynn Your NY trip sounds fascinating and I wish I were with you for a good portion of it. Your energy to do it all is amazing!

Karrine "Kitchen Bouquet" is a real meal savor. I"ve never let my family know why my gravy is better than theirs!!! Sorry it isn't available where you live.

maryea 09-30-2015 12:35 AM

Sandy, I just took some Tyl PM. I was told a long time ago by a doctor that Tyl and Asa can relieve itching. Of course, the Benedry in it helped me sleep too. If itching is caused by allergy it could also help with that but mine isn't. Your walk among the trees sounds lovely!

maryea 09-30-2015 01:03 AM

I made this tonight for dinner and we really liked it. I wasn't sure we would.
Feta Spinach Salmon Roast
3 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 c crumbled Feta
2 scallions, thinly sliced including the crisp part of the green (I didn't have so use a few thin slices diced of a yellow onion)
1/2 cup fresh spinach, chopped
2 skinless salmon filets of roughly equal size and shape, totally 3/4 pound - I didn't weigh, just used two filets dh had cut. I forgot to cut the skin off the bottom one but did cut it off the top one. They were kinda thick so I cooked them twice the time the recipe states. Since we don't eat a lot it was more than enough for us. I used the rest of ingredients amounts as recipe states.
Olive oil

1. preheat oven 350 degrees
2. combine cream cheese and feta, mashing and stirring with fork til well blended. Add scallion (or onion) and spinach and combine well.
3. Spread the mixture evenly over one salmon filet. The filling will be about 3/4 inch thick. Top with second salmon filet. Brush both sides with olive oil, turning the whole thing over carefully with a spatula. I didn't turn mine...I just brushed the top and all sides and it was just right. Of course the skin on the bottom probably helped.
4. Place the loaf on a shallow baking pan, and bake 20 min (I doubled that since my filets were thick!). Slice carefully with a sharp serrated knife.

Yield: 2 serv each with 5 gms of carb, a trace of fiber and 45 gm protein.

I served with rice and a little extra stir-fried spinach on the side.

Living in chaos while the wallpaper is coming down & the paint is going up. They are doing a GREAT job & clean up every day when they are done, but my condo is not big enough for me to hide while they are working. In my bedroom right now. Dining room table filled with kitchen/dining room/utility room stuff - Spare bedroom filled with bathroom, walls & bedroom stuff.
Yuck!!!!!

maryea 09-30-2015 03:31 PM

Halo would not cooperate last night....she whined, whimpered and barked most of the night. Nothing worked, dh finally put her out about three, and an hour later she was barking again, so he just let her have free run of the house and she finally let us sleep but I don't like that. I have no idea where she slept. We slept in very late and at 10 she was outside our door whimpering to go outside.

Lynn - It is a terrible feeling when you are living in chaos. We badly need to remodel our main bathroom and kitchen but I dread the chaos and mess of it. Our old house is falling apart and we do only small steps here and there to correct it. Dh is wanting the man to call and set an appt to come and make the final measurements for our entry door and all that entails. He wants it done before the rain starts and it is colder and is thinking about the loss of heat through the opening while they work.

Lots to do today so need to get started.

Mary, I was going to have them do the closets, but I decided it would be the straw that breaks.....

I decided that after I get everything back in order, I will get the closets done (one-at-a-time) to minimize the chaos.

Next step after the painting, is to get new drapes in all rooms. Mine are torn up from when my kitties were babies & they are discolored. Just have to figure out what type will be cat-proof.

Lynn

Wannabehealthy 09-30-2015 09:01 PM

Funny, but I had no interest in seeing the eclipse, but DH made me go out and look anyway. The only thing I saw was when there was the eclipse and you could only see a small slice of the moon. I don't know if DH saw the super moon but he didn't see the blood moon. I don't usually care about such things, but one night this summer there was supposed to be a wonderful meteor shower. We stayed up half the night watching for it. DH saw 4 and I saw 3 in a couple hours. Not worth it!!

Mary and Lynn, we don't plan on doing any more remodeling. Whoever gets this house after we are gone with be getting a fixer-upper. Actually, we put in new kitchen cabinets about 15 years ago. We put in a new bathroom sink, cabinet, mirror and lights in the past several years but I love my cast iron tub and won't replace that as long as it looks OK. So far so good. The wall tile around the tub could stand to be replaced, but we won't do that. We put a new garage door on in May. It was an absolute must. The wooden door was falling apart, and wasn't closing properly. Our roof was replaced about 5 years ago, covered by insurance due to a hailstorm. We are only replacing things that absolutely need it now. I would like to get a more modern entry door, but our door is solid wood in good condition, just old fashioned. So it stays.

Mary, sometimes I take Tylenol to relieve my itching, and sometimes it stifles my chronic cough a bit. I'm not sure if my itching is due to my psoriasis or because of my diabetes. It seems that years back my psoriasis wasn't itchy. Why do we get this itchiness? Sandy too!

I love salmon, and I don't usually remove the skin before cooking. Maybe it would be more important since you were stacking it. Sounds good. My salmon doesn't taste as good as when I order it out.

Gayle, I have been reading about alkeline foods off and on. I don't follow it exactly. Does the soda change the taste of the coffee? I wonder if DH would know if I put some in.

Karrine, we got our dog from the Humane Society and they told us he was a Terrier Mix, but I think he is more of a Terror than a Terrier. LOL Today we took him to the groomer for his first haircut since we got him. She called us 5 min after we left telling us to come back and get him. He was carrying on so bad and she couldn't handle him. She recommended another groomer who seems to have a knack with hard-to-handle dogs. We went to the shop to talk to her, only to be told that she was going to be off for a week or two because she got bit by a dog! So much for having the knack! After talking to the shop owner, they are going to try to groom him tomorrow afternoon. I will let them try. They seem to feel that they can do it. They might have more luck because there is more than one of them there and the woman we went to this morning was by herself. She said when she tried to put a muzzle on him all heck broke loose! Poor Rusty. I know he's scared and doesn't know what's going on. He is a sweetie at home, and I don't think he wants to hurt anyone.

As far as him barking and growling at our company, when we go to my step-sons house he behaves so well. When my step-son comes to our house he goes berzerk. I don't understand. They are the same people. He is the same way with my step-daughter. Behaves at her house, and barks when she comes here. He doesn't bark as ferociously at her as he does my step-son, and when my daughter-in-law was here he laid down and went to sleep. I don't understand at all. I know he likes women better than men.

Karrine 10-01-2015 06:17 AM

Good morning ladies,

Mary, Lynn and Carol - I am like you now in that I'm not putting any more capital into my house unless essential. I have lived here for 30 years and have put in about $60,000 in upgrades including expanding my driveway to a new double driveway; roof; all new windows; furnace; interior remodelling and it goes on and on. No more though...just maintenance of what is already here.

Carol - LOL on Terror than Terrier. I wonder if they have doggie mild sedatives for when grooming hard to handle dogs or when you have company? If so, I bet that would help.

I have a doctor appointment today (just routine) and hope to go get a few groceries at a new store I've never been to as they have AAA roast beef on sale and to a country market to get fresh picked corn on the cob.

Have a good day everyone,
Karrine

Wannabehealthy 10-01-2015 09:12 AM

Karrine, years ago we had some sedatives for a dog who did not ride well in the car. He still got upset about being in the car, but he was falling all over the place. I think if this grooming doesn't work out our next step will be to go to the vet and see what they suggest. It was over 30 years ago that we had those pills for the other dog and they might have improved since then. Doggy Xanax. LOL I also need to find out why he keeps biting his butt and tail. We can't see any fleas. I thought maybe getting his hair cut short would help with that but it doesn't seem like that is going to happen.

You are ahead of us with new windows and new furnace. Our furnace and windows are original, about 44 years old. DH replaced the motor in the furnace several years ago, but I don't think he's going to replace it as long as we aren't having any trouble with it. The windows seem to do a pretty good job of keeping the cold out, so far.

glynne 10-01-2015 04:15 PM

Good afternoon GG's,

It is a nice sunny day here today. I haven't been outside, so don't know if it is humid or nice. But, I'll take that sunshine anyday.

It is nice to have a stay at home day. No appointments, no errands. I like being at home and doing stuff here. Working on dishes, laundry. Straightened up an area that had gotten messed up. Been doing puttery stuff. I made my October calendar. I used to enjoy picking out a calendar every year, but when we started to live frugally, I started making my own. There is a web site where I can print the calendar, then I have saved all kinds of images/pictures and I print one of those that is themed for what ever month and glue it to the calendar (it has a space left at the top to accommodate pictures). I love playing (arts and crafts) LOL.

I also fixed up my grocery/shopping list so it is in a more managable form. I love having an idea and figuring out how to make something that will work for my purposes.

Carol ~ Hope the sleep over of your grandson this weekend goes well and that things with Rusty work out ok ~ his behaving around your grandson, being able to get him groomed. I went out for one of those super moons one time ~ they look so awesome and huge in the pictures you see of them ~ I could see the moon, but it didn't look any different to me than any other regular full moon, so I don't bother to stay up or get up in the middle of the night anymore to see them.

Karrine ~ hope your doctor's appointment goes well. Did you have fun at the brunch the other day with your friends? That corn on the cob sounds yummy. Glad you had a nice visit with your daughter.

Lynn ~ how much longer before they are done working on your condo? That would be an uncomfortable feeling having people in there with you and the feeling of no privacy. I bet it will be beautiful when it is done though. Your trip to NYC sounded like so much fun.

Sandy ~ the amount of time you spend in your gardens is as impressive as the length of Mary's walks. When I walk, I have to break it up into little chunks. I can ride my bike (a three wheeled adult trike) for a proper amount of time. I haven't done that for a while, but now that the weather is starting to be a little cooler, I am hoping to get back to some bike rides. I have done some walking ~ sight seeing on our travels, so I guess that counts for something.

Mary ~ Sorry you had a rugged night with Halo the other night. The salmon recipe you shared sounds delicious. Hope Joe is feeling better.

Almost time for Maddie to get home from school ~ so I'd better quit playing around and be ready

Hope you all have had/are having a nice day.

Wannabehealthy 10-02-2015 09:17 AM

Well, the dog grooming went well at the new groomers. When we got there, the owners husband picked him up and carried him around for a while to allow him to become familiar with him and learn that he didn't intend to hurt him. When the groomer started, her husband and I stood by the table to make sure he didn't try to jump off, and I guess I was there to assure him that I wasn't going to leave him there. She turned the clippers on and just rubbed them against his back to see how he would react to the vibration and he was fine. Everything well well from there. He is a little shorter than I wanted him with winter coming, but one thing about hair, it grows back! I think if I make an effort to keep up on his brushing daily he might not get the tangles he had and not have to be cut as short next time. I don't think the groomers husband has another job. He doesn't groom, but he acts as receptionist, helps with larger hard-to-handle dogs, and we saw him taking a clipper apart and repairing it, so I guess that keeps him busy. He told us his family was into dog grooming all his life and that's probably how he met his wife, and they went on to open their own business. They were very good with Rusty. Now to get through tomorrow night with my grandson. I hope it goes as well.

Gayle, we saw an adult tricycle at Goodwill. It was only there a couple days so I guess it sold quickly. I would have liked to have bought it, but I really have no where locally to ride it, and we have no way to haul it.

I'm glad you got to have a nice day to yourself. I enjoy being retired, but I like to stay around home and DH likes to be on the go all the time. I guess I had to go out to work every day for 47 years and now I want to stay home. Your craft ideas sound good. I am not good at crafts. We get a big calendar from the bank every year. Boring!! LOL

Mary, I have been reading up about my itchy skin and I'm starting to think that maybe it's from my diabetes instead of the psoriasis, like I thought. In the earlier years, my psoriasis didn't itch. I am going to try very hard to keep my blood sugar lower and see if that helps. The one article I read said that diabetes can cause permanent damage and the itch might be here to stay. That's discouraging to hear.

It's going to be cold today, colder tomorrow, not getting out of the low 50s but warming up a bit on Sunday.

Sandy, seems like the colder weather will keep you out of your garden for a few months. But time will pass quickly and before you know it you will be out there puttering again.

Lynn, hope you are doing well, and your remodeling is going as planned. It will be beautiful when it's finished. Hold that thought, and it should help you get through it!

Karrine, I hope your doctor appointment went well, with no surprises. You're lucky to get corn on the cob so late in the season. We not longer have it around here.

Good afternoon ladies,

My doctor appointment went well yesterday with no new surprises. I am to have more blood work done in January as he is keeping a close eye on a problem I have with my red blood cell count. I never made it the that new grocery store for the roast beef yesterday but did get 4 cobs of corn at the country market at a reduced price as I think today or tomorrow will be the last of it for this season. I soak them in water for 2 hours with covers on and then do them in the microwave. They sure were good. I also raked more pine needles in the back yard this morning and brought in my back yard ornaments for the winter. Next thing will be to pull the annuals as soon as we have a frost and bring in the patio furniture. It sure is cold here today.

Gayle - your home made calendar sounds beautiful. Being into crafts sure is a good hobby and pays off with making greeting cards too.

Lynn - How is it going with the work on your condo today?

Sandy - Those 3 wheeled bikes are great for support and balance. Someone in a nearby neighbourhood has one as I occasionally see it.

Mary - I too, am sorry yu had a bad night with Halo. Your salmon recipe looks good.

Carol - WTG on having a good grooming day for your dog after being so worried. Once again, good luck with you grandson's visit tonight.

Have a good rest of today all,
Karrine

Cold and dreary here. I"ve tried to go out to put in the flat of blue pansies in the front oval garden near the front door, but it begins to rain again each time. Hope some of you are right that Sunday may be better.

Sure have plenty of things to do here at home after being on the go most of the week. Meds for my ear have stopped up my hearing, but it doesn't itch.

Bible study on the NT Epistle of James is really good. Our group was only 1/2 size but still had 9 of us yesterday. Great Video and good group discussions. too. two friends joined Ted and I for lunch. Lots of laughter and good conversation. So grateful for such a day.

DH made appointment for his next Dr's visit for January at the new facility Dr is moving to. Far more helpful staff there, thank goodness.

Karrine, wih I had your good pine needles to put as mulcch under my Rhododendron. Our pines died and the Rhody does need the acid the needles help provide.

Carol, itching skin seems to be common among so many of us. The itching seems to have my hands going all over. Poison ivy on my hands and face, and exeema on other areas - getting a workout trying NOT to scratch.

I liked the way the groomers treated your dog. How fortunate to find such compassionate couple.

Mary, Halo needs some anti-anxiety meds so you can sleep!!!

Hope tonight's visit from Carol's grandson goes better than she dreads it might.

Glad to be home with DH and Pat.

Hi Everyone,

SO HAPPY to have 2 days without the painters. They are REALLY nice, but nice to have my place to myself again.

Today I can start putting some stuff back in place. One bathroom is done & the wall behind my dining room hutch is done. Will be able to get most stuff off my dining room table & out of my spare bedroom.

Planning to get rid of LOTS of stuff - like ALL those Tupperware lids that have no bottoms to match - where do they all come from?

Also planning to get new towels & bathmats for the spare bedroom. This one has no shower curtain - just glass doors on shower. Will use up ALL those Bed, Bath, & Beyond coupons filling up the back seat of my car.

Good afternoon GG's,

It has been a nice sunny day with a nice temperature. A stay at home day ~ love those. I've done a lot of puttery stuff ~ some vacuuming, fixing of some foods, did a couple little repairs to some things. I love it when I feel like I have accomplished something, and love it when I feel good enough to do so.

Gotta find some middle ground with Steve's desire to travel and my desire not to as much. I really enjoy being at home and doing stuff.

Had a nice visit with DD Sara yesterday as she traveled home.

Little granddaughter Evie wants me to make her and her American Girl doll matching dresses. I think she was hoping maybe for Christmas, but we have some other stuff going on and I wasn't sure I could get it done by then. Checked with DD Jen to see if making it for her birthday in July would be ok. Was relieved when she said that was ok. Now I don't have to stress about that.

I've gotten to talk to my mom a little the last couple days. She has dementia, so proabably doesn't even remember if I call or not, but I am always glad when it works out that I get a chance to visit with her.

Kind of sad today ~ two years ago on this day my dad passed. I miss him.

I've enjoyed getting to watch a show that I like ~ on the HGTV channel ~ Fixer Upper. I think part of why I like it is because it takes place here in Texas ~ mostly around the Waco area. The couple who do it are fun, likable and seem down to earth. The people they work with are shown 3 different homes that are for sale and need to be “fixed up”. They get to pick which one they want fixed up. It is fun to see the transformation.

Lynn ~ glad you are getting a break from the painters today. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.

Sandy ~ hope tomorrow is a nice day weather wise for you. Glad that you didn't have to be out and about in the rain.

Karrine ~ sorry you had to work in your yard when it was so cold outside. Glad you enjoyed your corn. Yum.

Carol ~ glad it went well at the groomers for Rusty. Thinking of you and hoping that things go well with your grandson tonight.

Mary ~ hope all is well with you and Joe this weekend.

Kind of running out of steam now ~ maybe I'll do a little crocheting.

Hope you all are having a good weekend.
