Oh good it worked! :) I think it was Donna who posted it a while back. I started doing it but then quit...today I started again. I got a headache after 12 windmills, need to watch a video as not sure I'm doing right, but I was able to do all the leg lifts and arm circles. Here's the video but I sure can't do it very well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P70Va8OmL-M |
Good morning ladies,
Carol - What a great idea to carry a phone book in the trunk of your car in case of car trouble. I do almost all of my driving locally so I am going to put a phone book in my car right away. Thank you for telling me that we are not support to talk politics here - I didn't know that. Mary - I want the shingles vaccine too but have been told that seeing as how I am just recently over having shingles that I would be immune to getting it again for quite awhile. I am, however, going to pursue that information with my doctor to see what he says. If it doesn't rain today I am going to start raking leaves which will be an ongoing job until all the leaves have dropped. Have a good day everyone, Karrine |
Karrine, I had shingles about 7 years ago. I never got the shot, but 2 years ago when DH got them I decided to get the shot because I didn't want to get them again. I have heard that if you get them a second time they are milder than the first, but I fear getting them on my head or face. DH won't get the shot, even though he had a terrible case of them.
Mary, when DH is sick, it's like the world is coming to an end. I have to stay with him and take care of him. It's different when I'm sick. I usually just want to be left alone. When I was in the hospital he really doted on me, even my room mate commented on how he takes care of me. He did my sponge baths and took me for my walks. The aides didn't have to do any of that. He just doesn't realize what can happen with a hypo. When I had my heart surgery, I woke up to them injecting insulin. I told them I'm not diabetic, but they said "You are now." The surgeon told me that having surgery causes some people's blood sugar to spike, and it will eventually go back down. That's why DH said I didn't have diabetes. By the time I came home it had come down enough that I only needed pills, but it didn't go away completely. I asked my PCP why I would become diabetic just like that and he said "You were getting up there." So, apparently, I was reaching pre-diabetes and he was watching it, but never mentioned it to me. Gayle, I forgot to comment on your question about dreams. I have heard that dreams are usually caused by something that has been heavily on your mind recently, but I don't always find that to be true. I have a lot of dreams, and some of them are really weird! I dream about people I haven't seen or thought about in 40 years! I have heard that everyone dreams but not everyone remembers their dreams. I remember a lot of dreams. I think I have dreams when I am in a very slight sleep. I will fall asleep and have a dream and tell DH about it and he will say "You were only asleep for a minute!" I don't sleep well and I wake up a lot during the night so I think that's why I seem to have so many. |
Carol Really sorry that sleeping well is difficult for you. Only suggestion I can make that is helping me is that I meditate with deep breathing shortly before going to bed. Seem to sleep better and longer. As a Catholic, rote prayers go thru my head constantly.
Funny, but DH really is a sweetheart when he is the sickest or had surgery. He really appreciates my company and usually I am glad to oblige. Several years ago we put a bed in the huge TV room that came in handy for times after surgeries. Because he likes a lot of cover (that he pushes away, then back often) and room at 80 deg, he sleeps there most of time, TV on timer to shut off. We have an Eden Pure radiant heater in that room that Has wood siding outside instead of brick as the rest of the house is. (cools and heats faster with the weather) I've stayed in the much cooler Master Bedroom and discovered I can really get restful sleep now. I like room dark and cool. So does Pat in her room. The Brick part of the house where we gals sleep can be kept cooler since DH has the heater to adjust as he pleases. We all sleep so well. Diabetes is such a strange disease. I still am most afraid of that. Karrine Ted simply mulches all or leaves with mulching mower. Our grass thrives great, too. He does put on lime several times a year to counteract the acid caused by the mulched items decaying. Good luck with the leaves. We have 2 regular maples, two small red maples and a crab tree so there are plenty of leaves to mulch. Mary Thanks for this wonderful reminder. I used to do many of these on a regular basis when I first woke up, but had forgotten about them. Today I'll begin again. Can't go out in sunshine because of the medication till it is finished, then I'll be ok. (10 days on Sulphur) Weather is great for walking but there is always the time later in the day if I have the energy for it. Gayle Sweet dreams. Lynn How are you today? May you all have a very good day. Sandy |
Good morning GG's, (well, it was morning when I started, but afternoon by the time I got it done and posted ~ LOL)
Another cloudy day. I think maybe it rained in the night ~ the driveway looks wet this morning. I woke up way early yesterday (2:30 am) with a headache, took med, but it just kept on. Didn't finally go away until the afternoon. It was my own fault. I fell back into old habits of dealing with things and ate something I knew better than to eat. Had PT yesterday. The first day was just kind of evaluation. Yesterday was the work. I am stiff and achy today. Head is trying to ache again. I didn't eat wrong. Sometimes I think the weather has something to do with it ~ like the barometric pressure difference when it is cloudy and rainy instead of a nice sunny day. Maddie's homework this week was to write her autobiography. It was hard work and hard for her to keep on task, but she finally got it done. It turned out really well. It was to be illustrated ~ she drew the pictures for it. It was really cute. Today she will be TGIF. We are gonna carve her pumpkin this afternoon after school. Sandy ~ hope the time passes quickly (of taking your med) so you can get back to the outside you love so much. Carol ~ maybe I was remembering wrong about the dreams being when you are in your good part (deep sleep). It does sort of seem like they happen maybe during light sleep ~ because they seem to come right before I wake up. Sometimes, they have something to do with water and those times, I think it is because I need to go to the bathroom really bad and that is how my body gets me to go. Last night, I was dreaming that there was this wind gusting in my room and kind of pushed me up against the wall, and made me cry out. Maybe the wind dream was because I could, in my starting to wake up state ~ feel the breeze from the fan I keep blowing on me at night. Then part of the dream ~ a rocking chair from the living room was in the hall by the bedrooms. ?????? who knows about that one. I would rather not know if I was dreaming. People wish you sweet dreams ~ that would be ok, but these unsettling dreams, I could do without. Karrine ~ what a big job that leaf raking can be. I miss the pretty fall tree colors here, but don't miss having to rake up those leaves. It was sort of fun at first, but then when I got tired, I wished it could be all done, but it seemed an endless task. Mary ~ sounds like you had an enjoyable day yesterday. Your beef stew sounds good. Glad your insurance covers the shingles shots. That is a help. Lynn ~ how are you doing? Well, I'd better get off here ~ I've got some cooking/foods to make. I'd better get at it ~ or at least get started and stake my claim to the kitchen table ~ before Maddie gets home. She kind of takes over things. She has the little bathroom by the kitchen fixed up like a science lab/art studio. She takes my things (scissors, tape, glue, stapler) for her office. I need them and can't find where she has put them. One day, I went around and collected up my things and now have them hidden, so I can have them when I need them. She still has stuff ~ just not my stuff. LOL Hope you all are having a nice day. |
I got a manicure today and did a little browsing at the mall and ended up buying a pair of jeggings. I hope I like them. They seem to fit my legs pretty well and yet are not real tight. Couldn't find a top that looked good on me but the top I was wearing looked ok, so probably some others I have will be ok. Dh had been to change the oil in the car and we got home at the same time. Then we left again to get our shingles shot. So now we are all up to date on our shots.
Tonight we are going to a new Filipino restaurant in Portland dh has been wanting to try. I think our son is going with us. Glynne - Sorry you are achy...hope you'll feel better soon. It's nice you get to share so much of your gd's life but not helpful to be achy I know...seems like you shouldn't be achy with your meds...but I do get stiff and sore or achy after new exercise too or even if I haven't done any for a while. Does Tylenol help your headaches or are they too severe? We will be babysitting Monday and one day in Nov. Also have been invited to go to a Tupperware party with my dd...I'm excited to be with her since I don't see her often. I don't often have unsettling dreams but I do now and then, usually about the dd I don't often see. I think it's because I wish things were different. Last night (or really this morning), I dreamed about an uncle I hardly knew and rarely even think about. I can barely remember him and we probably never said more than a couple words to each other. He died a long time ago when I was young. In my dream someone told me he was a teacher, I was surprised and really didn't believe it. I don't think he was...I've forgotten what he did but I know they lived in a trailer and traveled from job to job. Sandy - My dh likes to be much warmer than I too. I insist on keeping the thermostat no more than 70 at night(a compromise) and only allow it to be up to 72 in the evening as we are usually in the family room where it is cooler and this is only during the later fall and winter. He has conceded to these temps MOST of the time. I keep a fan on at night and we put up a foam pillow barrier between our heads when it's on which is about 80% of the time. It is not aimed at our heads (for his sake) but he still feels it hence the pillow..it helps him some. I feel badly about the fan but also feel I really need it. I do turn the fan off if I hear him getting up. He is very sensitive to drafts. We have a mulching mower too and it's a great help. Carol Sue - I've had shingles twice and both times it was about the same, pretty mild I thought. I had them across one side of my waist. Dh had them once and his ran down his right thigh and were very painful. I've seen some REALLY bad cases in the nursing home. I guess that is why I decided we should get the shot. I've heard that even if you get it after the shot, it will be more mild. I understand your dh's reaction better now. I am the same when dh is in the hospital...I sleep on a little bed in the room if I can and take care of him. I actually get fairly comfortable there and have fewer hot flashes than at home as the bed is right next to a large window which feels cool and the rooms are kept cool. Most rooms in this hospital have the little beds now. A couple times I had to sleep in a chair...the chair sorta reclined but had no foot rest. Very uncomfortable the first time, but the second time I found a chair to prop my feet up on...easier but still not really comfortable. Dh would usually say he doesn't need me, but I know better...with his difficulty hearing, you never know what he'll do...sometimes he'll say yes to meds he shouldn't take or answer wrong to other questions about his health. When he had his colon surgery, I took a break to go home and take a shower, and he was so glad when I got back because he had hurt so badly when one of the nurses got him into bed. He liked the way I help him....however he didn't act like it at times;) You know how "a prophet isn't accepted in his own town?" Well a nurse isn't either. I'll admit I'm not a nurse now and have probably forgotten most of what I knew but I still know a few things! :^: Oh and after he fractured his leg, I told him not to get up by himself, to call me, but I'd wake up and he was up. I was mad/frustrated because I was afraid he might fall but he didn't want to wake me. It was a relief when he was truly strong enough! |
I got the first load of leaves raked up yesterday. It is supposed to rain all day today with threat of thunderstorms so that will bring more leaves down. I don't mind the raking as it is good exercise as long as I take breaks when I get tired. I also have a wagon that I keep in the garage to load the heavy bags of leaves on to so I don't have to try and carry them. In preparation for this winter I bought a new hat for when I'm snow blowing. I usually had to bundle up my face with a scarf to help with the blowing snow coming back at me and the scarf always slipped so with this hat I just bought everyone will think I'm a terrorist rofl and I will look so darn silly but I don't care.
Carol - So sorry to hear that diabetes followed your heart surgery but glad you are down to pills instead of injecting insulin. I feel your doctor should have told you that you were at the high end of normal for diabetes. Mine did. Sandy - Your DH likes to sleep in a room at 80 degrees.....wow!! Sounds like you also have a big pile of leaves to deal with at this time of year. Gayle - I suppose I am lucky in that I seldom get a headache. Hope your's aren't too bad. Yes, the tree colors were beautiful last week and are now dropping pretty fast. Mary - I too, have a ceiling fan that is on all the time when I sleep. I like the feel of air movement in the room. Your DH is fortunate to have a former nurse as a wife to take car of him like you do. I would imagine that if I were unable to get out of bed that my tenant would help me out because I would help her if she ever gets sick. When I was alone with no family near me it was always hard when I got sick. Have a good day everyone, Karrine |
Mary,
I forgot to mention in previous post that I appreciated you posting that video of the windmill exercise and calendar. I have been doing bends to touch my toes but not the one like it shows. I'll have to try this one. Karrine |
Gayle, there is one dream I have over and over, and I think I have it when I have to go to the bathroom during the night. I dream that I am in a public restroom and ALL the toilets are clogged up. LOL I have had this dream about 10 times or more. There is rarely a night that I don't have to get up, but sometimes I last until around 5 AM which isn't too bad. Sometimes I get up 3 times, depending on what I had to drink in the evening. I try not to drink the last few hours before bed, but I do have to have water to take my meds.
Mary, this is embarassing for me to say, but I have a smart phone but don't know how to use it. The past 2 phones I had before this one were also smart phones, but all I know how to do is talk and text. It is a Tracfone. The only reason I got it was because HSN had a special. A year of Tracfone service is $99, and they had the phone plus 1 year of service for $99, so in effect, the phone was free. I don't have anyone to show me how to do things like get on WIFI or get online. My step-son knows, but we are not around each other for long enough periods of time for him to show me and when we are together it's usually a family gathering and there's too much going on around us. For example, he told me when I send him pictures I'm doing it wrong. He says I'm sending pictures in a text and I should be using the phone. I have no idea what he's talking about!! LOL I am very un-tech savvy. Karrine, there are times in the fall and spring when we don't need to run either the heat or the air condition, but our bedroom gets too warm at times. DH hates to have air blowing on him so he will never use a fan. I finally talked him into getting a ceiling fan in the bedroom, but he rarely lets me put it on. It hits at the bottom of the bed so the air won't hit his head, but he still doesn't like it. I usually go to bed earlier than he does so I put it on to cool the room down before he comes in. Our bedroom curtains are thermal, so even when the windows are open, not much air gets in. Sandy, when DH is in the hospital, he likes me to stay with him all day but he gets very grouchy and doesn't want to do what he's supposed to do, but if I'm not there and the nurses come in, he is very cordial with them. I usually only stay a couple hours. Our hospital used to have semi-private rooms and he hated having a room mate, but now they went to single rooms. Hopefully we will never have to be there again to experience them. I have had some really terrible room mates. Last time I was in I was the bad room mate. Things kept going wrong during the night and I kept having to ring for the nurse, keeping my room mate up all night. Couldn't help it, but I'm sure it was annoying to her. |
Its been a quiet morning. I slept later than usual but dh got up earlier. Son has gone for a run. I've done my daily tasks, so just resting a bit before the next things. May go to the mall today as I'd like to get a couple stones appraised. Not sure they are worth it though. What do you do when you are not sure a stone is worth the cost of appraisal but still would like to know..will they at least tell you that before charging you:?: One is a cracked rather large diamond that was my mils and the other one is a ruby that was my mothers engagement ring. My parents never had much money so am doubtful they spent much on it but it is a deep color doesn't look really cheap.
We went to the Filipino restaurant and dh liked it really well. I got the only dish on the menu that sounded like something I'd like and I did. It was chicken pansit...thank God they didn't put any shrimp or other gross (to me) things in it and I really enjoyed it. Dh liked his dish but both he and our son wished they'd gotten the pansit like I did. We have heard of another new Filipino restaurant and will try it soon. I cook Filipino now and then but not often enough for dh and he cooks it also a few times a year. Dh expected me to order Caldereta which I usually really like but on the menu it didn't mention having potatoes (which is mainly why I like it) and it had liver paste in it...no not for me. Carol Sue - I remember us talking about that dream as I have it too. Haven't for a long time though. In mine I'm looking for a rest room and when I find one something is wrong...it is clogged up or there are a lot of people around, including men, no privacy. Another dream I have occasionally (did a few nights ago) is one where I am naked or at least topless in public. I feel like I chose to be that way but still feel kinda uncomfortable.:o I can understand the restroom dream but the second one is a little harder to understand. I am not an extremely modest person but I would never choose to be naked in public! I don't understand what your son means either about the pictures. You ARE using your phone to send them in a text. That's usually how I send pictures to someone I know can receive texts. You could send them to an email though but mostly my family prefers texts or to FB posts. I send a lot directly to FB from my phone these days. To get online from your phone, go to your settings and where it says wi-fi, turn it on...maybe as simple as sliding the on/off button. If you have wi-fi at home and it is on, your phone may pick it up automatically...you may have to choose it, but it may just go ahead and connect...but if not, you will need to key in your network info and password/key. That's it on most phones. However I have never used a Trac phone. There may be videos or text instructions online. I had a bad roommate once when I was in the hospital. Not sure if it was my last surgery or the one before that. It was not her fault...actually during the day, she was a very nice quiet person, but at night as soon as she fell asleep, she would start yelling and would keep it up. I would keep the door shut in order for the room to be darker and apparently the nurses could not hear her. Strange thing is, that as soon as they opened the door, she would stop yelling! She would start up again the minute they left the room. It was the wierdest thing. So I couldn't sleep with the door open (and curtain pulled around my bed), but I also couldn't sleep because of the yelling. I finally told the nurse motioning with my hands so my roommate couldn't hear why I couldn't sleep. She gave me a sleeping pill which helped some. I hope that never happens again and like you Carol, I hope to never have to be in hospital again! Karrine and Sandy - glad you like the exercise chart. I do too but forgot to do them yesterday. Korrine, enjoy your ceiling fan...dh would never let me use one as he would feel the moving air. Mine is a bedside fan and he just tolerates it for my sake. |
Mary, I understand about getting on WIFI but I don't know how to get online from there.
One time when I was in the hospital it was for a heart catheterization and I just had to stay overnight after it. I was in the bed by the door and this old lady (much older than I) was in the other bed. I asked the nurse to pull the door closed because the light in the hall was shining right in my eyes. When she did that, the other lady started yelling to open the door because she wanted to be able to look out the door, so they opened it. So then I asked the nurse to close the curtain around my bed so the light wouldn't shine in my eyes but then the lady started yelling that she couldn't see out the door with my curtain pulled closed. I got so tired of hearing her yelling that I told the nurse to just leave it open and I just put up with the light in my eyes. That was a very long night. Another time I had a younger girl who had her TV turned up really loud. She didn't keep her speaker up by her ear but laying down on the bed, so I couldn't hear my TV at all. I just shut my TV off. When DH was in, he had a man who kept his phone on speaker and just laid in bed and hollared into the phone. You could hear both sides of his conversations. I think that's funny that you dream you're naked. I wonder what that means? I have dreams that I'm being romantic with other men. They are strangers, not men that I know in real life. I think the reason I dream that is because I miss the way our relationship was romantic in the beginning. We love each other, but there's not a lot of romance anymore. |
Carol - about accessing the internet. If your wi-fi is on and connected, then its just like on a computer...you just click on a browser. You probably have one on your phone ..it might be safari or chrome or any other one. I don't know what tract phones use..but you could call the store. If you don't have a browser, and can download apps, go to the app store (not sure what it is called on your phone but there should be one) and download any browser you want. I prefer chrome but had safari on my previous phone and it's ok too. Again you can ask the tract phone people. They should have provided you with a CS number but you can also ask the store or look it up if they can't help you at the store. Hope you can figure it out.
Maybe this will help: http://www.ehow.com/how_8104452_put-...-tracfone.html Might want to find out about charges too. I buy a data package but don't know how it works with a tracfone. I didn't read the full article. |
Mary Thanks for the info. I hardly ever use my phone and minutes etc roll over. Right now, I have about 3000 min, 3000 texts and 3000 mb of data and I can buy extra data. Actually, I have more data because I don't use it. I think I can get on my Google account on this phone, but I'm not sure how to do it. I don't want to use all my data trying to figure it out. One of these days I'll get my son to sit down and help me. I bought this through HSN so there's no store, but we have made friends with a guy at Target who works in their phone dept and he has helped us with some things. I'm just embarassed to tell him I don't know what I'm doing. I think when he sees me he's thinking "Oh, here SHE comes again." LOL I'll figure it out somehow. I don't really have a good reason to get on the internet with my phone. I don't do much more than post on message boards.

Good afternoon GG's,
It is a dreary drippy day here today. Friday, we helped Maddie carve her pumpkin. It was fun ~ came out cute. Then she and grandpa picked the seeds out of the slimy pumpkin strings and we roasted those. Yesterday, our son stopped by to visit. That is always fun. Today, Maddie is coming over while Mama, Dad and brother go to a concert. Carol ~ hope you get your phone figured out. I don't understand either what your son meant about not sending pictures via text but to use your phone instead. Mary ~ what are jeggings? I guess I could google it. The aching is mostly better. My knee is still bothering a bit and I haven't been doing my PT exercises like I am supposed to. They sort of aggravate the aching, and I hate to start in with that again. I am gonna ask when I go back on Monday, if she can replace one of the exercises. One I do at a machine and I have to kind of balance on one leg while I make movements with the other leg. I don't think my knee can tolerate standing on one leg. I think I had better do some of them today. I don't want to confess to her that I haven't kept up with them very good. Karrine ~ glad you have found a hat that will protect your face during your snowblowing. LOL about you looking like a terrorist. Good job with your leaf raking. Sandy ~ how is your sore place doing? Hope it is feeling better. Lynn ~ hope all is well with you. Gotta go find something for lunch. Hope you all are having a good weekend. |
Hi everyone. It's raining today and suppose to rain all week. We went to church then dh and the kids went out to eat but I was tired and for once not hungry so just came home to rest.
Yesterday dh took one of the boys to get their oil changed as he has a special deal he can share with others. Then they went out for lunch. Meanwhile I got to spend some precious time with my oldest son who stayed home and worked in the yard trimming fruit trees. Last night we were on Halo duty and she was SO good!! We only heard her once about 4:30 am she came to my dh's side of the bed whimpering so he let her out and then she went back to sleep and so did we. That's the best night in a very long time. Glynne - Jeggings are a combination of Jeans style and leggings, so they are stretch material and fit tighter. But they don't really fit that tight on me since I have to get Large for my waist and I have slender legs. So on me they fit more like jeans should fit me ...not really tight but yet fit my legs well. My only problem with them like others is that they tend to roll down my belly and I keep having to pull them up but they stay up a little better than the yoga type pants I often wear. Glad the achiness is somewhat better. Mine comes and goes. I've been in the cramping mode recently but I am beginning to feel the achy mode come on....LOL, sounds silly but it's true...my aches/pains goes in cycles. If this is being old, it sure is fun!!:^: Carol - You don't need to be embarrassed about not knowing about your phone...believe me, MANY people don't understand electronics. I'm amazed at how many people (60 and older) do not even own a cell phone! Some even seem to think it is something to brag about not knowing about cell phones or computers, internet :?: Sometimes I feel strange when I'm with older people...I'm 72 and kinda techy and don't feel I have much in common with a lot of people my age! It is not because they don't know how..I'd be happy to teach them....it's that they don't seem to even care they don't know.:dizzy: Sometimes I feel like I have more in common with younger people but of course not in every way. Guess it stretches me, I have to find something else to talk about with these no computer, no internet people :D So don't feel badly...you know A LOT more about these things than a lot of people! I don't get online a lot on my phone...but sometimes I access FB, or look up a location, get directions, or search for a store or restaurant etc. Mostly I use it to play games with other people. It's still amazing to me to realize I play games with people from all over. BTW, any Tracfone store should be able to help you even if you didn't buy it from them. Sandy - Hope things are going well with you. Lynn - Hope you are enjoying being with your dd. |
