las-Sorry to hear about your Post Sandy Doldrums. Maybe u needed the carb boost. Hope you are feeling better today.

Marie-Skiing is so cool. I have only been on one ski trip in my life. It was to Breckenridge, CO when I was 20 years old. I had a lot of fun but it seemed pretty pricey and I am not very athletic. I remember it was gorgeous on the top of the mountain so I am very glad I did it. My children have never been skiing.

Am2-As long as you keep trying, I know you will make your goal in good time. In the meanwhile, enjoy your day.

I am pretty much maintaining which is at least decent concerning the time of year. However, I am probably making cookies this weekend which could mean some big trouble, ha, ha.

Amarantha2 12-13-2012 05:50 PM

Thanks, Tera. If I don't make the goal, it will be fine, I am giving it the old try, but the body & brain sometimes don't cooperate at the same time with weight loss these days lol.

Doing well today, was going to make chili (I am now SUPER DUPER CHEF and cooking a lot), but had to take the car in and ended up with a $1600 bill and it pulled me down a bit, so chili making must wait lol.

Lucinda, I agree with Tera that maybe you needed that carb boost during the recovery days since the storm.

You'll climb outta that pit, no worries.

Huzzah to all.

I am going out to finish my 10,000 steps lol!

TERAPET 12-16-2012 09:15 AM

I have been going completely overboard this weekend. My weight this morning was a not good at all. I have been actively avoiding calorie tracking and it shows. I am going to try to be better today.

Am2-That stinks about the costly car repair. I hate that stuff also. Glad to read you are taking up cooking. Hope you get to the chili today.

Amarantha2 12-16-2012 12:47 PM

Tera, never did the chili but going to make a flatbread recipe I found on all recipes that really intrigues me.

Lost a pound & am really hitting the strict calorie adherence for rest of month as I do think I can get to 129.8 on December 30th, putting me in the 120s. If I don't get there I still have done well this year. I blogged about all this on my 3FC blog lol so shall be silent henceforth.

Marie 12-16-2012 05:03 PM

Hi all, I have to say, the last few days have been sad beyond words. Hence, not very chatty and kept thinking weight loss is so irrelevant. Of course it is not irrelevant to my health. Like Tera, I think maintaining through the holidays would be a great victory. Actually any time I maintain, I'm happy. I'd rather the scale move downward but I have to put the effort into my desire and that hasn't been there 100%. Maybe I'm at 70% motivated. I understand Luc's downtrodden emotions about dieting. Am2, you are always my hero. So sorry about the $$$$ car repair. That stinks. Tera, Breckenridge has always been my favorite ski area. Heavenly is pretty close to the top and is so much closer miles wise. Mountains are so beautiful.

But we will all keep plugging away at this path. We're almost to our 500 message limit so the New Year will start with us needing a new thread as well.

I think I have calmed down a bit with the overeating but not sure since I am still not tracking my calories. Maybe I can force myself after here. My boss put out chocolate peanut m&ms for me. He knows I love them. Last year I started eating them and could not stop. I bought a bag on the way home and ate the whole thing. So far I have not gone crazy but the week is not yet over.

Marie-Hang onto that 70% motivation. Better 70% than none. This is no time of year to be without some weight loss motivation.

AM2-You are the champ of weight loss. Congrats on another pound gone.

Amarantha2 12-19-2012 05:55 PM

Thanks, Tera! I feel for you with the m&ms. If I ate even one, I'd be lost.

Marie, yea, hang on to the 70%. No one has 100% motivation 100% of the time.

I wrote a long post here earlier in the week but deleted it for no particular reason.

Doing ok with food & exercise but not stellar, but as Tera said, this is not the time to be without motivation so slogging on.

Marie 12-19-2012 09:30 PM

I believe I agree with you both. 70% is better than none. I'm going to keep that level and then Jan. 2nd it's going back to 100%. I've floundered for a year at close to the same weight (actually a little lower now than a year ago so that is progress - just not great progress). I want to reach my goal of those 20 pounds gone and I'm doing it starting Jan 2.

So Tera, does your boss like you and put out the Ms or does he want to sabotage you?

Am2, I love "slogging on". Yep that's my 70%.

Good exercising going on. So-so food consumption. But feeling so much better after the drama in my life the last month. I bet I didn't mention that, did I? Anyway, life is a bit better.
Marie

TERAPET 12-19-2012 10:38 PM

Did okay today which is about as good as it is gonna get for now. I did track my calories yesterday and today and also got my exercise in so I am holding steady weight wise for the time being despite the indiscretions.

Am2-Glad you are posting here-short or long. I enjoy your contributions to our discussions. Plus you are so good at this weight loss thing!

Marie-Sorry to hear you had some tough times last month but glad you are feeling better. I want to join you next year on tackling those extra 20 pounds. Wouldn't that be cool to lose the last bit!!!! I was within ten pounds of that two years ago and I felt so good but it was short lived. Maybe this time could be different.

About the M&Ms. I think my boss is both trying to be nice and baiting me for a misstep. He is very, very overweight and my coworker and I are always encouraging him to eat better. I rarely eat poorly in front of him because lunch time is just not a difficult time for me. So I think he is both happy to see me enjoy candy but also he knows he found my weak spot!

Amarantha2 12-20-2012 06:57 AM

Thanks, Tera, I will be here as we go forward, and thanks for saying I am good at the weight loss thing. Lol, I hope that proves true on my weigh-in this Sunday as I really want a loss!

Marie, sorry also to hear you had troubles last month but glad you are feeling better!

I love the idea of 70% ... If I would apply 70% consistently of what I am capable of in weight management & all other areas, I'd be awesome.

Marie 12-23-2012 04:21 PM

Aw AM2, you have a ban on Red Velvet cake until ~Dec 20th 2013??? I couldn't do that. Red Velvet - homemade - is my favorite cake on earth. It's my birthday cake. I will think of something I will join you on that challenge. Something I love but just not the red dye cake. :D

Not doing bad buy certainly lots of room for improvement. Have been hiking in the snow with the puppies and I did the Bowflex yesterday. I should have ellipticalled but the snow walk (falling twice since it was glare ice under the snow) and cleaning the house exhausted me. And today I don't want to use my legs more than the snow walk because the plan is to go skiing tomorrow.

Tera, hmmm on your boss. I think if I was being baited, I wouldn't eat a morsel. Just the stubborn a$$ in me. Even if there was my homemade red velvet cake, I'd just say no thank you. I don't like diet saboteurs. They make me more determined.

Have a GREAT Christmas my friends that celebrate. I probably will be back on Christmas to post a skiing picture for you and let you know that I didn't break a leg. ;)
Marie

Amarantha2 12-23-2012 11:26 PM

Lol, yea, Marie. It is my favorite cake on earth, too, but I eat the bakery or cheesecake version sometimes once or even more times a week and it is too big a chunk out of the nutrition budget. Plus eating it makes it even more desirable, it doesn't satisfy me. Guess it is a trigger food. Anyhow, t'is outta here. I am also doing this because it will be a fun challenge for me that aids my healthy eating plan and because, hey, there are other kinds of cake in the world, but none are triggers for me but the red velvet.

Glad you didn't break a leg skiing.

Tera, I think I agree with Marie. I would not eat anything if I felt I was being baited, although you say he is also trying to be nice and probably he is. He sounds complex.

I lost .6 this week and am happy with that. I have moved my goal date to reach the 120s to January 6. That is fine with me and I don't regret not making it as my weight is good and I am doing well with the weight & fitness.

So woot! I will also post on Christmas or whenever. To those who celebrate, have a good holiday and to those who don't, have a good day.

Marie 12-24-2012 09:04 PM

Am2, I love your new avatar. It's quite adorable! Congrats on the .6 pound loss. That is reason to do the :carrot: happy dance. I bet there is very few in our country that can boast a loss this time of year. I know I can't.

My mom got the Waldof Astoria Red Velvet cake recipe when I was a babe when we lived near NYC. So I only like the original version. The frosting is really weird - how it is made - but the idea of cream cheese frosting on it is just wrong. I think if I had it weekly, it wouldn't be a treat. But I do plan to make if tomorrow for dinner dessert because a beautiful red cake is perfect for Christmas.

Today's skiing was FABULOUS. Loads and loads of snow fell on the mountain the last week. Pure fluff. Today is the only sunny day in the last 2 weeks and is forecasted to be the only sunny day for the foreseeable future. So it was amazing. I'll provide a link later when I get enough energy to heft myself off the couch.

Hi All, I'm new to this site, thanks for the heads up Marie about this challenge thread to be continued in 2013.

I just read the last page and got excited to read Amarantha getting her 10,000 steps in for the day. :carrot: Mid year I got serious about a minimum daily output year round, bought a Striiv and most days get at least 10,000 steps in.

I still want to lose 15 pounds but am equally concerned about keeping it off, so have been looking at a lot of maintenance materials. I'm listening and reading "Thin for Life", hoping it sinks IN!!! :dizzy:

Welcome workin' - I love your username. Welcome to the end of the thread. :) We'll be starting a new thread on Jan 1st or when we reach the 500 post limit on this one. Your avatar is cute!

So I said I'd post a couple skiing pictures... If I lived near Workin' the pictures would have been from Mt Hood instead of Mt Shasta. :D

The first is of me. The picture is sort of funny since my daughter is standing above me on the slope. So I look SHORT. The second is on the way home. The moon was perched just above Mt. Shasta. It was gorgeous. The last is of my daughter, DH and myself - resting in the fluffy snow.
