Where's my 50+ newbies? Week 1
Hi, I'm ShoBan, on wk 1. I'm liking the IP plan so far, I would like to have some feedback from other newbies (50+) on how you are doing? I'm also pre-diabetic. thanks to anyone who replies! and TGIF
|
I'm on week one also. I haven't picked out a plan....except I have cut out sugar and all sodas (diet and otherwise), and all "empty calories". I eat breakfast....didn't do that before....a little yogurt, grapenuts, half a banana and a few walnuts...and I am drinking a lot of water. I am eating small portions and cooking everything from scratch...so more vegetables, and lots of salad and not eating after 6 pm. I have been on every diet in the world, I think, and I am trying to just eat healthy. I know what to do....it is just doing it. I feel motivated, so far. I need to lose 45 lb. I would say more...but since I am 65, I don't think I want to go much below 145...but will see....once I get there. ;)
Good luck to you....maybe we can motivate each other along the way. |
Congratulations for starting your new food plan! I hope to join you soon, am doing more research on IP...it is costly and am concerned I will be hungry
|
Hi Y'all!
I'm on week 2. I'm doing basically semi-low to low carbs (lots of veggies and a little fruit) and high protein. The protein helps my appetite and craving much better than anything else. I'm trying the carb cycling. Two low carb days, followed by one or more semi-low, with an occasional high carb thrown in to stoke the metabolism. Doing a similar thing with exercise. Lift weights at least every other day with PACE (similar) to HIITs on other days. At least one rest day per week. Looking forward to getting to know you and follow your progress. Together we will meet our goals. :carrot: |
welcome.I'm working more on NOT compulsive/binge eating.I'm making better food choices and trying to exercise daily some.I want to binge so bad but turning to healthier foods.i keep salad around so I binge on it instead of SWEETS/carbs/or junk foods
|
Starting wk. 2!
I started out on this IP plan and must of had a flu bug, I was sick, the first day. My coach told me to drink mint tea(helped), and second day was better. WI was today, I dropped 12 lbs. I'm surprised, but I know this is working, every week can't be this good, it's a great start! I've found I'm not a big fan of the soups, and does anyone have ideas, for the puddings. I love the chocolate drink, an cappuccino(I use it in my coffee). Good luck to everyone, I made it through wk. 1!
|
Wow! That is super!! Congrats to you!!! Keep up the good work!!
I got an exercise bike yesterday....rode it last night and twice so far today and will be on it again before bed time. |

new again
I am starting again to lose 90 lbs. I lost 20 last summer and gained it back. I have a lot of stress in my life, esp. husband, so that really affects me. i am doing high protein low carb plus exercise-which is something I didn't do before. i have health issues, so I need success. I am 54 with a 14 year old son. Any sugggestions of protein products or tips to boost energy would be very appreciated!:):)

Cinthia, I know all too well how stress affects weight gain. Here to cheer you on and wish you much success.
My husband is a tow boat captain. Made a good wage and was gone 3 weeks out of the month. He fell on the boat and broke both of his knees. Now he has been off work for over 12 months total. For the first almost 8 months, didn't receive anything because as a seaman, he doesn't get workmen's comp. They have what they call the Jones Act and he gets $20 a day...which they started giving him in February. I don't know which is worse....being broke or having him home every day. I hate to say that...he's a good guy...but we're both on edge over this. Hopefully they will reach a settlement soon and he can go back to work. ShoBan is doing the IP diet. I don't know what kind of entrees or protein they have on there. Maybe she will come on here and tell us about some of the choices. I looked at a site and saw puddings and soups, but was wondering about regular meals. |
Get a cushion!

Kind of bland but on my sickly stomach, that's what I needed.

byugal-Thank you for your reply. I'm so sorry about your situation. It is hard to deal with..We will lose this weight!

Welcome, Milly. I am going to take up weights too. I have done a little bit of hand weights before but didn't stick with it. I especially need it for my arms.
I have animals and I lift a lot of heavy feed sacks. Sometimes when my husband isn't home, I have to unload several hundred pounds at a time. About 3 years ago, I broke my wrist, and since then I haven't lifted as much, and my strength has really waned. I need to get some strength back and figure out if I can firm up some of this flab. If I can't, I can live with it. I am not doing a diet. The reason is I have done so many of them. Just about every one you can think of. When I get on a diet...all I think about is food. It becomes an obsession that I don't normally feel every day, if I'm not dieting. So I am just eating healthy. I am not going to say I will cut anything out forever, but I am definitely going to cut down on my portions. It has to be something I can live with and do without a lot of "thinking". Of course I know all too well, what not to eat...but I was eating anyway. Also a lot of mindless eating where I just snacked all the time whether I was hungry or not. I am down to 183 this morning. Down 7lb. Drinking a lot of water...no sodas but sometimes unsweetened iced tea. I didn't sleep well again last night...still de-toxing from those pills, but going to stick with that too. Every time I think about taking a pill, I think about my knees and when I carry a 50# sack of feed, and how heavy it is, yet, I am carrying that and more around with me all the time. No wonder they ache. And, I am serious about getting a saddle mule or horse I can ride. I rode every day, growing up and I have always had horses. The horses I have now are old and haven't been ridden in 20 years. Two of them are in their 30's, but I think they could still "bust my butt" if I tried to ride them. :D My reason for losing weight and getting healthy is to enjoy life more. I feel like I have missed out on a lot by letting myself gain weight and become inactive....and I'm not getting any younger....so I want to see how much life I can fit into my remaining years. |
Well so much for keeping the calories high!! Went over board on the sweet stuff by about 600 cals. Main thing I have come to realise though is it happens, don't condemn myself and get right back on the horse, which I have done.
I used to ride buygal up until a couple of years ago, loved it but it was very time consuming for me. Keep up the good work folks:) |
My scale read 180 this morning!! I will wait until mid week to log it....if it lasts. I couldn't believe it because I have eaten quite a bit....but nothing bad for my diet. Had fish for dinner last night, and it was so good....I had a small second helping. We live on a bayou...hence my name...byugal (bayou gal) and my husband caught the fish and about 20 min. later, it was on the plate. It doesn't get much fresher than that.
Keep on keeping on, everyone!! |
Wk 2 WI
I'm not sure what to expect tomorrow at WI, I will be happy with just 3 lbs. Way to go byugal! Wish we could catch fish that close to home. Next month, hopefully, we can go spear salmon, being Native American, we're allowed one time a year. Good luck this new week, 50+ ers.
|
Got my fingers crossed for you, ShoBan. I went ahead and changed my weight loss thingy today. I was 180 again this morning. Good luck this week, everyone.
|
Well, WI was -2.4 lbs. This week hopefully will be better. I still feel good about 14. lb. total. Good luck everyone!
|
congradulation!
Way to go byugal and shoban! You have done great this week. Byugal, 180 is my target weight so you are an inspiration! I haven't done bad this past week -2 lbs. down. Gonna start working out at the ymca on Fri.:carrot:
|
Congrats, ShoBan. Any loss is a good one. I am sure there will be plenty of times when my scale won't move down, and may even go up....but it is the long haul.
Cinthia, congrats on starting to work out at the Y. That can't help but be a benefit. Let us know how it goes. We have a new Y in the next town. I have never been there, but I am going to check it out as soon as I can. I have a friend who goes, and I need to find out how much a membership is. I may not be able to join until my husband gets his settlement from being hurt on the job. Good Heavens, that is dragging on and on. :( |
question
Does anyone take metaformin? If so has it helped you lose weight? control carb cravings? My Dr. wants me to try it for insulin resistance/pcos. I crave carbs a lot, but do not register as a diabetic-thank goodness! I need to lose weight before that happens. Had a good 2 days, down 3 more lobs. but I did a lot of gardening! :)
|
waiting is hard
byugal-My husband is waiting for disability too....I hope yours comes thru soon.
|
My husband isn't waiting on disability. He is waiting on a settlement. He can't go back to work until they settle but they keep dragging it out...his lawyers keep sending him for more physical therapy, etc. (Padding the bill, I am sure). Meanwhile, he can out work most guys half his age. :(
Congrats on the loss!! I don't know anything about metaformin, but someone here probably does. |
Yes, I'm on Metformin.

byugal- I hope your husband's settlement comes thru soon. Glad he is Ok.
Shoban- Thanks for the info about metaformin.I'm going to start it tomorrow-maybe it will help me progress faster. Do you have bad side effects? Why do you want to get off of it? I don't like to take meds either, but if it helps me lose 90 lbs, I'll do it. It was to hot to garden today-99!! I think I will walk the dog in the dark. Off to the y tomorrow. Take care everyone! |
welcome healthyginger
glad you are joining us! I to have lost and gained many times... I'm really hoping to lose it and keep it off this time. Please share any tips you may have for staying on track.also, if you need support, let us know!:)
|
I started last week and have lost 7 lbs. I'm on the road a lot so it is rough going into restaurants and just ordering meat and 2 cups of veggies. The shakes and drinks are good, much better than the store stuff.
Is there a list posted on this site of things people have found that are ok to eat and drink while on the Ideal Protein diet? |
Hi Kevin
Glad you joined us! I am very interested as to why you choose ideal protein-can you share? I have thought about it, but in Md. it costs about 300 a week and that's not in my budget now. I am trying to do it on my own. I think their is an ideal protein group and it would probably have lists for you.
Good luck:carrot: |
