Hi All!
I'm back on a weight loss plan after losing then gaining again. I am 54 and am looking forward to checking in to see how everyone is doing. I wish everyone luck. |
Welcome back, Pat!
|
Hi Sharmenu here
that was the name I received on signing up....Im not creative enough to come up with anything else....LOL! I will be changing it soon.
Lets see.I would like to loose 50# but right now..I am trying for 30#.....15# was a "gain back" after a sucessfull loss of 70#. I am on Day 2...I love food and have to work on bringing myself back to the Beach....I do cheat but I do a lot of exercise and in the end it works for me. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and give and receive support in this journey together! |
I know that it sounds corny, but it applies to dieting: today is the first day of the rest of your life. Or.... If not now, when? Good to have you onboard, Sharemenu!

I'm a newbie! I am 59 years old, at least for a few more months. My husband and I started using BistroMD 3 weeks ago. It's working out great for us because it keeps me out of the kitchen and we both appreciate that! We decided that we would let the experts help us with our portion control and healthy choices, at least for a few months.
I don't weigh myself very often! It's always depressing seeing my husband lose so much faster than me (men!), but I can tell by my clothes that I'm doing the right things. If the numbers on the scale don't reflect that, it bothers me too much! So, not knowing keeps me on track and believing that I'm just dropping those pounds like crazy. I've been lurking for awhile, so thought I'd jump in and say hi. |
Hi Indymama! Welcome to 50+! What is BistroMD?
Rob |
Hi Rob, thanks for the welcome! BistroMd is a prepared diet program that is delivered to my home once a week. I am on the 5 day plan, meaning, I have two days to either fix my own food, or go out to eat. So far, we love it. My husband is on it too.
BistroMd is good, but it's not cheap. We decided to do this for ourselves for awhile because our schedules are always a problem. We end up eating out, or making bad choices when we're rushed so much. Now, I can just grab a meal out of the fridge and heat it up in less than 5 minutes. They taste great, and are well balanced. My husband has lost 10lbs in 3 weeks, and I haven't gotten on the scale, but I feel a difference in my clothes. |
That's great progress, indymama! I get on the scale frequently, but it really matters (for me) how many inches I lose from my waist.
Good to have you aboard! Rob |

Hello,
I just came indoors @ 7pm from shoveling my deck & front porch; overnight I got :o 1 foot of snow. Tomorrow I'm snowshoeing :bunny2: instead of shoveling :smug: Did anybody else get snow dumped on them? This pic is me in January 2 1/2 weeks ago in the 50*s @ Lake Michigan, when we decided to look for treasures on the beach. A week later it was back in the 30*s, what a crazy winter we got. I'm sooo happy that spring is coming soon, TY to ground-hog Phil. I don't use a diet, I eat smart, unless I'm @ a restaraunt. I don't know what you'all chat about here, but I'll b back to see what's up. Today's Food Log: Breakfast: veggie/bacon omelet & hot peppermint tea. Lunch: panini sandwich w mozz. cheese/lettuce/hard salami & 1 glass of sk.milk. snack: 1 vanilla protein shake w strawberries. Supper: 1 slice of lasagna & cup of cole slaw & ice water. snack: 1 glass of wine & 2 cookies @ 8pm. B safe this weekend everyone  |
Hi Dee Dee
It's still snowing in Massachusetts at 11:05PM. Not looking forward to snow blowing on Saturday! lol Rob |
I just signed up and am going to concentrate on just making healthier choices the first week. We are going to visit relatives and that always throws me off. I am trying to be kinder to myself. I have a habit of binging when I am not perfect. I am 53 and need to lose around 80 pounds. Together we can do this!

Hi there, my name is Bev and I am 52 years young, I am on my 6th day on the IP. The first few days I was dizzy and had some nausea. However that is all gone now but I dont feel like I am in Ketosis? I am so looking forward to losing 40-45 lbs. I bought myself a Harley so that is my incentive :)
|
Hi Bev, welcome aboard! Do you have any ketostix? That's the only sure way (that I know of) to see if you are in ketosis.

ShoBan here, that was a long vacation!
Last time I posted was Sept., great vacation. Now it's already end of Feb., and sad to say, I fell off the wagon, big-time.. I was on IP, lost the wt. fast, but if you don't follow through with maintenance, the wt. creeps back with a vengence! This is hard admitting I failed at keeping the wt. off. so, I'm not going back to IP, it was too strict (for me). I will keep reading all the successes my fellow 50+ are making. And good luck to you all!

Hi new to this website. Been on a weight loss journey my whole life. Now that I am almost 58, it is so much harder. Last weight loss has been 45 pounds over the last year, but motivation is not here any more. Afraid I will start to lose focus and begin gaining again. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone! I am 55 and need to lose 65 pounds...this is week 1 for me..I started a yoga class this week to get me started moving...I have fibro and arthritis in my knees so moving is a big issue...the yoga was great! I am trying to stay away from my biggist temptation....Fast Food...I was skinny until I hit my 40's then I went on antidepressants and blew up! I am 5,11 and weigh 227. I have an elliptical cycle I am going to dust off and start using again if my poor old knees can stand it. Gets discouraging when pain keeps me from moving....need all the motivation and support I can get! Also thinking of starting WW online April 1st.

New to board
I am starting week three of a healthy eating plan. I am cutting sugars, lowering carbs, and increasing fruits and vegetables. I track using an AP called Lose It. So far I've lost 5 lbs.
I've done every diet imaginable, and have lost the same 40 lbs. many times. My problem is, I always gain it back. I need to adopt an eating plan that is part of my life, not just another diet. I have an elliptical machine which I have started using again. It helps me regain muscle tone and strength, which as I age, seems to be waning. Just in two weeks, I have noticed a difference. |

lizziej-getting ready to get ready
Hi,,
I love reading all your chat, it is so inspiring. I am almost 56 and have been a lifetime member of the struggle. I was just on the verge of finally going for self pay bypass when I heard about the IP diet and started looking into it. I have tried everything else and gained and lost countless pounds. I am at the jumping off point with no motivation to do "another" diet when I found this website and starting reading. Hey, I am starting to get motivated to try this IP before going into years of debt and having the scary surgery. Thank you for being here and sharing! I hope to have a consult for the IP plan today and get started real soon. keep us posted on how you like the IP. really like to know If the food cravings go away or diminish significantly. thanks for posting! LizzieJ , down but not out weight 260 |
Hi,
I just joined. I am 53 and have a minimum of 50 pounds to lose. I am happy to be around others in my age group. I am trying high protein low carb. I need encouragement! |
Where to start?
Hi my name is Jaz not sure where to start, been on this road for 64 yrs. Off the wagon. Definitely a comfort eater. My husband brings home every lollie, Icecream, chips, peanuts for the children to eat.
Our children are all grown up and the grand kids appear maybe monthly. I've asked him not to bring them home, out bar is like a lollie shop and a little freezer is full of what Ron calls sputniks (drumsticks) etc. which he eats every day. Not a supporting person with weight. Ron's one of those hubby's that really aren't there emotionally. Nice person tho I'm a yo yo er feel great when I'm a the right weight , I really don't understand the comfort eating:?: which is what I'm doing at the moment. My daughters thinking of shifting and I'd rarely see the grand kids I get annoyed with myself that I do that, then the cycle starts and you become depressed over that Maybe some one can. Relate Thank Jaz |
True progress is only going to come from your own inner willingness to do what you need to do. If you SERIOUSLY feel you want to lose weight, you will put THAT in your mind and ignore all the rest. Everything is a test, and while thinking of that and whatever your next step is, ask yourself... haven't I done this.... and has it been working thus far? Since it hasn't, you know it's the wrong path, so you need to try something else.
Yes it's going to be hard at first, but trust me it gets easier once it becomes a way of your life. Work hard not at being against what he's doing, but moreso at ignoring it. If he wants to stick to that and you can't get him to change, them get his butt a foreman grill or nuwave oven or whatever and let him cook it himself. Tell him it's against what your goal is so if he can't help by not bringing it home all the time, then HE is just going to have to cook it himself. Of course it will probably start a war to where he is going to season it real good and make sure you can smell it, but that's when the battle starts. You give him those evil eyes with a dirty look and smile, but DO NOT GIVE IN. Then tell him about it at night in a playful manner about how he trying to get you and you won't let him win, etc. Make it fun, it doesn't have to be a struggle and painful. Once he sees how serious you are and how SEXY you will be getting, trust me he might want to jump on board to try and keep up or he might love it so much he wants to be able to handle it better (if you know what I mean *lion growl with a wolf howl) |
New to forum
Hi! I was recently diagnosed with insulin resistance. I am 51 years old, have PCOS (which I had long forgotten about since my pregnancy days are over) and although I've been following a low carb diet for over a month and exercising regularly, the weight is hanging on for dear life! I am considering a DIY IP plan and would welcome suggestions!
Thanks!:carrot: |
