Bobbi, this is a picture of Tomato Soup Cake. Just google it and you'll find thousands of recipes. It's basically a spice cake/loaf and very tasty but not diet friendly. The one I had never had the nuts-just plain with a drizzle of glaze. Some people put cream cheese frosting on the cake. I haven't had TSC in years.

Well I'm back...played good and had a 65% game which was good enough for 2nd overall....often win with 10% lower score...sighhhhhh

Marie....ahhhhhhhhh, I want one, too. The baby is so sweet.

Cyndi...welcome think of us as a bunch of friends gather around the kitchen table. Pour a cappa and grab a comfortable chair. We are capable of solving any problem...maybe not correctly but when you have this many women who have been there or done that you'll get good advise. We allow grumbling and temper tantrums and have a posse who will ride out to help.,,,even with bail money if needed.

Isabella....that Tomato soup cake took me back 60 years. The recipe was published in the late '30's and '40's Methodists Women"s Cookbooks. I sent the books to my DD last year. Every recipe was contributed by "Mrs. George -----" never with her first name except Aunt Ruth who was a maiden lady. Much use of butter and lard, too. And sugarless eggless baking because of the war.

Carol sue....I would love the frenchdoor refrig. They came out the year after I had to replace my refrig. Had DD get one.

Freda....you will love retirement. Just love it. The only thing I missed was the sisterhood and GG takes care of that nicely.

Debbie...Everyone down here has spots. Just about everyone goes yearly to dermatologist and comes home of frozen spots, fried spots and big bandages. Just say dermatologist and everyone hums.

Karen...did you look under your pillow last night? My dentist always gives an orchid plant to his patients after treatment. So how come he gave me an Easter Lily?

Bobbi...yes a cup of water and cup of yogurt or FF sour cream.

DeeLee....Kids grow up and the cycle changes to they leave home and it feels so lonely. They return and leave and lonely comes back. Then they come home with baggage/spouse/kids and you pine for lonely.

Donna...got your email and package goes out tomorrow. Am trying to finish this book and get it off to Maryae at the same time. Hate hate hate standing in line the the USPO. I get evil waiting there.

Rie, zoe and everyone else I missed just consider yourself hugged. k3

Good evening GG’s,

I was hoping to get to the personals tonight, but it was a busy day and I am just too pooped.

Went to physical therapy this morning (for the sciatic pain). That physical therapy kicks my butt. Some days were in the PT room, some days in the pool. I liked it and it didn‘t hurt while I was doing it, but boy did my legs hurt a few hours later. Today was my last session. I will be able to do some of the things I learned there ~ at home. I am glad the sessions are over as it ate a big chunk out of my days off.

Then went to check out the Jo Anne fabric’s new location. Bigger store ~ beautiful. I could get in trouble there ~ LOL.

Then on to Walmart for some grocery items. Fruit for my fruit salad for work lunches. I was gonna do that this evening, but will just take applesauce tomorrow and make the fruit salad tomorrow night.

Then home ~ drop off the groceries and pick up the hair cut coupon. Got to see Maddie for a few minutes ~ her hugs and chatter are always a bright spot in my day, and on to the hair cut place.

Back home ~ finish laundry ~ get stuff ready for work tomorrow. Too pooped to tackle more.

17 more days of the count down to doom ~ LOL (AKA the day we have to begin wearing those solid black scrubs at work).

Sorry not to have been able to get to the personals. Hope you all have a nice weekend.

Take care

Hi everyone! Had a good day. Started at the gym as usual and got a good workout. After rest and lunch we went to Costco for a "few" things...and left the store with $150+ worth of stuff. Costco is like that. But it was all stuff we needed. I didn't get much housework done..finished up laundry I started yesterday and did most of my daily stuff but still things I'd like to finish up tonight.

Bobbi - The Mirror is an old book...but it used to be very hard to find so maybe it still is in libraries and stores. You can find it on amazon...get a used copy cheap. Any computer budgeting software is helpful. YNAB is mostly unique in it's philosophy (it gets you to live one month BEHIND your paycheck) and this is built into the software so it is easy to do. That's what really helped us. YNAB's best feature is it's budgeting and that is it's main focus. It's weakness is its reports...they are there but not as good as I'd like. Also so far there is no auto download, but you can go to your bank/credit card online account and download them into the software if you want. I prefer to manually enter my transactions but I use the download when things don't match the online account and it usually quickly helps me get right back on track. There is also a mistake checker built in to help you keep your budget right. I used to occasionally get off some how so I like that. As I mentioned in a previous post, we only use credit cards when we already have the cash to pay for the item so it's just for convenience and rewards. Otherwise it's wait and save or take from savings. Don't like to use savings unless planned already so we usually wait and save for those purchases. We love the credit card rewards though...when we were paying off debt (a few years back) we used the cash rewards from the CC to pay extra on our debt. Later we used the rewards to add to our savings. Now we just tell our visa acct to apply it to our bill so that saves other money in our budget that would have gone there. I used to be quite the spending but now I LOVE to save!

Isabella - The cake looks so good!!

I'm excited about so many of you checking out The Mirror! I hope you enjoy it as much as me but if you don't it's ok. LOL I realize everyone is different.

Karen3 - No rush in sending the signed copy to me. And if you decide to keep it that's fine too, I understand. I already have two copies. I keep extra because sometimes I lend them out and I have lost one before. I hate standing in line at the PO too!

Cindiem - welcome to our little group!! Actually it's not so little anymore! Not sure how many but we have quite an active group. You are an inspiration with your exercise. I used to hate exercise and now I love it too! Go to the gym most every week day and really don't like to miss. Look forward to hearing more from you.

Hello Goldens!

Not much new to report here.... I am working for part of the day to get a project done and then off to a new adventure tonight. One of our young friends is in the roller derby here so we are going to go support her. My ds is working security.

Debbie, still thinking positive results for you. Take hubby or someone with you at next appointment.

Mary, glad that you are enjoying your time at the gym again.

Karen, I have many of our church ladies cookbooks. They are so funny in the way that they were written. But, sometimes I find it a comfort to cook some old recipe. Knd of nice. Except, I have to shop for the "staples" like white flour, lard, real butter....

Hi Cindi. Hope you are having a good weekend. Glad that you joined us.

Caddyk, I hope the wind didn't blow you away. Take care.

Well, Donna, Freda, Zoe, Lynn, Marie, Rosey and everyone else. to you. I just don't feel very chatty. Later!

Good Morning...Mr. Cranky pants is gone for the morning and I'm thinking 24/7 with a retired DH is too much. If car fuel wasn't so expensive, I'd join the senior center club in town. I can just see myself playing 500 cards with all the Q-tips. (White hair and white tennis shoes)
I've successfully put DH in panic mode about our budget, that's why he's so cranky. I'm very proud of myself, last night I used up 2 items in our pantry. A package of Fettuccine mix that's been in there for awhile. I don't usually buy mixes because of MSG and the price. But this was picked up at the dollar store, plus no MSG in it. I only ate about 4 Tablespoons because of the high calories in it. DH loved it. All my menu's are going to be planned on the pantry. I had to pick up prescriptions yesterday, used the check book instead of charging. ouch! I also made a crustless pumpkin pie with a can of pumpkin I found in the pantry. Yummy, a low calorie version. Oh, I used up another can of fat free evaporated milk. I got to get that marked off the list, just thought of it now.
Today I'm making venison stroganoff over noodles I found in the freezer, I use fat free sour cream to lessen the calories.
No time for personals, I need to get the vension in the crockpot.
P.S. Gayle...you're only 9 miles away from Colorado Springs in our walking/exercise thread. You might have to keep going and come back to meet us when the rest of us catch up.

Brenda, I’m like your Sylvee. Since I was spayed, I’m lazy and never seem to get full (of cookies). Good luck putting your pretty kitty on a diet. My elder husky went on the prescription diet because the choice was lose or she wouldn’t make it. She lost all her fat and I’m thankful. Now my two youngsters – I can’t get to lose weight but they’re not way overweight either.

Hi Cyndiem, welcome to the group. You will fit in well since you mentioned up front your beloved German Shepherds. Please post pictures soon. We love our furbabies here. I have 4 huskies. Since huskies are pullers, I will eventually (hopefully not for a long, long time) only have 2 as I’m now in the golden years. BTW, 50 as well and love love love to exercise. I bought Zumba for my PS3 Move and it is a blast.

Way to go on losing another few pounds WebWoman. You are on a roll.

Debbie, on the anniversary of your dad’s passing yesterday. Sounds like you found peace with him before he died. I’m glad your DH is doing well. Way to go on getting under a round number. I call them decades.

Bobbi, your DH might be pi$$ed off because he feels guilty about the silly $$$ hunting trips.

Carol Sue, I have a French door fridge as well. I love the bottom freezer, especially because it has pull out drawers so nothing is stuck in the back. That freezer is not my black hole. The tiny chest one in the garage is the scary one.

Rie, DH did not like your advice that I stop making the cookies. His co-workers don’t like it either. I make them and send them to his shop. But you are right, I do need to stop. I’m thinking going back to work will help. Getting the darn exercise restriction removed will help. I think many things will help in the next two weeks. Aka, two more weeks of exercise being a no-no. I think what the dr doesn’t know won’t hurt him.

Rosey, I bet you and your sisters are all looking fabulous! My fingers are crossed for your SIL and the interview.

Deelee, never feel like you have to remove a grouchy post. We’re here to support when one of us is down in the dumps. I do but you’re happy the workmen are gone (unless they were eye candy like Donna’s lawn boys). Having your bathrooms finished has got to be a relief.

KarenFL at your we’re capable of solving any problem – maybe not correctly. You shouldn’t make me snort my mocha while reading 3FC. That was too funny.

Gayle, I hope the PT is helping with the sciatic pain.

Mary, visiting Costco is always $100+. Occasionally I have escaped in the $65 range and am always so proud. Until I get home and remembered what I forgot that would have pushed it over the $100 mark.

DH and I are going to pull the winter cover off our pool today. All of our new pool goodies arrived this week. But the winter cover is black and if the sun ever decides to shine, it creates algae quickly. So it’s coming off and the new solar blanket will go on. It will look like summer – except the snow that keeps falling. Nothing planned today. DH has Guard weekend so he’ll be gone this afternoon and evening. I think I will work some more and then work on my new quilt. I thought of Carol Sue as I had beauty day this morning. Ripped the hair off the legs and under arms and waxed the brows. I guess I’m ready to go back to work ½ time on Tuesday.

Okay Take me out back and shot me...please....I told you how going to the post office makes me evil. Well, went this morning wrapped my packages and had forgotten the addesses. Had to leave and come home get the addresses and go back and get in line again...the crazy lady who keep running for office stopped me twice even after i told her that I have ready not voted for her in the last election. My kids always swore I was a magnet that drew crazy folks like bag ladies in NYC. No sure which came first crazy or psych nurse????

My Northern roots are showing. Friends brought over 4 huge zucchini yesterday. I just food processed 2 and got 10 cups. 5lbs of flour minus 2 cups plus eggbeaters and pecans and raisins and have 4 large loaves of zucchini bread baking. It's April ???? duh wrong Florida is messing with my mind. Oh thats right I said shot me....please...

Hi everyone,
Karen3 your zuc.bread sounds so yummy. i love it.
Marie im so jealous you have started getting your pool ready for summer. I just love swimming.
And that grandbaby of yours is so precious~ i know you in love.

Bobbi your rant about DH was so funny. Sounds like the scene around my house at times ha...Men! I know too how it is living with less. We are living on a fixed income right now and its not easy. we to really have to watch our budget. Everything is going up and up except our income~ OUCH is right

Korean ribs on the grill tonight. been marinating in lite soy sauce, garlic, green onion and fresh ginger and a dash of seasame oil. Will probably make rice for DH he loves it and i made some pickled cucumbers and onions yesterday and some Hungry Girl Mac salad. DH was impressed that it was low calorie.

Im tempted to make some brownies..not what i need for my weight loss tho.

My nasturtiums are coming up indoors. love to watch things grow.

Have a good weekend everyone. Enjoy reading everyones post here. Sorry i dont get to many personals everyday but i really do enjoy everyone here.

Hola from the Land of the Totally Exhausted!

You know how I always (always!) say I'm going to do some domestic drudgery but never seem to get around to it? Well, today I rocked! Tore the bedroom apart, washed windows, mopped the hardwood floor, wet dusted EVERYTHING, changed the sheets, did laundry... oh, my....! I'm trying for one room a week. So far, this is the only one! LOL

May I ask a favor of the newbies? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE sign your posts with a name! I'm. Old. And. I'm. Tired., and I cannot remember a name that was given weeks ago, if at all. Please!!! And OtherDonna, I think I was here first, so what do you want us to call you?

I'm off to feed my tum... Hope you're all enjoying your grandbabies, your cranky husbands, your cookies, and your furbabies! Later, lovelies!!

Tried to get to gym. Did a half hour & had to leave. I am feeling VERY tired. Not sure if it is the new meds or some kind of virus. Next week starts my next class. I leave for NYC with my DD & SIL on Monday. I am keeping my fingers crossed for good weather.

I am having NO luck with weight loss. Keeping my calories to around 1,200/day plus doing exercise, but not enough exercise. NYC trip will probably not help.

Tomorrow, my DD is holding a pancake breakfast fund-raiser at her B&B. I am going to be one of the servers.

Have a great weekend,

Lynn

Hi Debbie,

Do not worry too much about the Melanoma. Doctors found 2 patches of it on me in 2007. I had surgeries and have bi-annual check-ups for it by a special dermatologist – he sees only cancer patients. I just keep out of the sun as much as possible.

Hi Rie,

My niece is a roller derbier. http://www.skylandrollergirls.com/eeeee/49-bapayne

She is just 5’1” but she’s tough on opponents. I went to see her and was surprised at how excited I got.

Hi Bobbi,

You are doing great! When I did this experiment, I ended up gaining weight. A lot of the stuff in my pantry was NOT low-cal/carb.

Hi Marie,

Good to get back to exercise – makes it a LOT easier to lose weight. BUT try to NOT push it. What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him, but it could hurt you.

Hi Donna,

We were posting at the same time.

I have a plan to clean out my spare bedroom - now filled with all the scrapbook stuff that I never use. I am going to check into the Boys & Girls club in Trenton and see if they could use it. I hate to just toss it all out.

However, I am not sure I will get the energy. Do you have a trick to "rock?"

Hi golden chicks,

Marie - your grandson is beautiful. I'm sooo ready to be a grandmother but I will have to wait.

Cyndiem - can't remember if I said welcome so Welcome! I love German Shepherds too. My last dog was a German shepherd but I became allergic to all the big harry dogs that I love. I now know about lots more breeds that aren't. Maybe some day.

Karen3 - thanks for the words of wisdom. I've always tried to "Shower the people I love with love." My sons are very busy "separating" from me. Okay, I get it. You're not Mommy's little boy any more. I need a daughter...or a grandchild...
Dh and I are going out of town tomorrow for his yearly test to make sure he is still in remission. It has been 8 years, knock wood.
We are going to friends to play bridge soon. Better try to look presentable - it takes longer than it used to - LOL! Hope everyone is doing well.
