~~August Golden Girls~~

We are about Fitness and Quality of Life after 50...
We are about Fun and Friendship after 50...
We are the Golden Girls...

There is Value in us
There is Power in us

There is Wisdom in us
And Laughter....
We are a rainbow of unique wonders,
There is love in us.
(poem by Dorothy Holmes)

Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark? How about the 60 mark?
Friends laugh, cry and stand by each other, we'll be that to you!

These jams would be good over angel food cake and toast. I was amazed that everyone doesn't grow rhubarb. Then I googled it and found out that you need cold winters for it to be productive. I made two of these recipes yesterday and it's to die for. The Orange Rhubarb is delicious and no need to use sugar at all if you like it tangy. I used no sugar and 1/3 cup splenda)
Rhubarb does best where it gets cold; the plant needs occasional winter temperatures below 40 degrees to be reliably productive on a commercial scale. Rhubarb is a cool season crop rarely successfully grown in the U.S.
where the average summer temperature is above 75 degrees or
where the winter mean temperature is above 40 degrees.

Orange Rhubarb Jam rated 4.5 stars out of 5 (all comments about it was too sweet)
Ingredients
2 1/2 pounds fresh rhubarb, chopped
2 cups white sugar (I used 1/3 cup Splenda and no sugar)
2 teaspoons grated orange zest
1/3 cup orange juice
1/2 cup water ( I used all fresh squeezed orange juice, no water)
Directions
In a saucepan, combine the rhubarb, sugar, orange zest, orange juice and water. Bring to a boil, then cook over medium-low heat for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until thick. It will thicken more as it cools. Ladle into hot sterile jars, and seal with lids and rings. Store in the refrigerator. ( froze all mine)

This is really good too, used no sugar or sweetener at all.
Rhubarb Pineapple Jam (4 star out of 5)
Ingredients
5 cups chopped fresh rhubarb
2 cups white sugar (I didn’t put any sugar in, pineapple and sugar free jello made it sweet enough)
1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
1 (6 ounce) package strawberry flavored gelatin ( I used sugar free jello)
Directions
In a large saucepan or stock pot, combine the rhubarb, sugar and pineapple. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Jars can be sterilized at the same time.
After the rhubarb mixture has boiled for 10 minutes, remove from heat, and stir in strawberry flavored gelatin powder. Transfer to sterile jars, seal with lids, and process for 15 minutes in a boiling water bath. Allow jars to cool in a draft-free area. Refrigerate jars after seal has been broken.

I need to pick up a can of blueberry pie filling before making this. I made a note on the recipe not to sweeten it, probably don't need it.
Rhubarb Blueberry Jam (5 star recipe) I haven’t made this yet but sound promising, I’m going to use sugar free jello)
Ingredients
8 cups chopped fresh rhubarb
3 cups white sugar (jello and blueberry pie filling is sweet enough, probably won’t need to sweeten it)
1 (21 ounce) can blueberry pie filling
1 (3 ounce) package strawberry flavored gelatin
1 (3 ounce) package raspberry flavored gelatin mix
Directions
Combine the rhubarb, sugar and blueberry pie filling in a large pot. Bring to a rolling boil over medium-high heat, and boil for 10 minutes longer. Stir in dry gelatin mix until dissolved. Transfer to sterile jars or freezer tubs, and cool. Freeze any jam you don't intend to use right away.

Good Sunday, Golden Lovelies!

Mary – I know what you mean about preferring “real” books over the digital version. I wonder if the grandbabies will remember “real” books? Or cursive writing? Or how to calculate without a machine?

Marie – what kind of work do you do?

Rosey – how’s your boy feeling? Have fun, fun, fun at the gathering today!

Bobbi – this was quite the chatty group in July. Being anal or CDO, I watch the numbers and was pretty amazed that we had 5,600+ visits to the site! Of course, a lot of that is US checking in, but not wanting to post for fear we’re accused of having NO LIFE. :o

Gotta run… nothing exciting today, anyway! Have a good one, Lovelies!

Hello Wonderfuls!

Last night I spent at a family gathering - my Mom's family. We were celebrating the life of my great aunt Mildred. She passed a few months ago. She was really hoping to make it to yesterday, her 100th birthday. Her daughter decided to have the memorial and family get-together on her birthday so we celebrated her bday anyway. She was a character. She stopped doing walking races last year because ("I always win - there's nobody in my age group!"). They owned a little place on the stillwater river and taught me to fish. She was tough, smart, and often difficult. It was really nice to hang out with my cousins, I never see much of that side of the family.

I slept well and woke this morning to lazy coffee and relaxing. I am going to play computer games and hang out today. I do plan to get the laundry done and put away the suitcases. If I don't get on that right away - I could still be pulling stuff out of them next week :o:(

I am so proud of our group. 510 entries?! We rock :carrot:

Thanks for the support while I was gone. It really helped for me to have a mothers moment - quietly yelling: What is wrong with these children!!!? I appreciated it.

I will be back for personals later. Enjoy the day!

Rie

Hey, I guess we took the gold medal in the chat-a-thon competition????!!!!!!!! Man, are we good or WHAT????
Okay, with 34 days left to go, I am officially down another 2 pounds. Yay, but, oof...if I can't do at least the two pounds a week from now until then, I'll be a tad disappointed. BUT, I will take what I can get and forge ahead from there. Please wish me luck, my Golden sisters!!!
I'll be back later today with personals, but we've grocery shopped (had a fun, but very LONG day at the beach yesterday - didn't get home until 8:30 last night!) and now are going to have a little lunch and head down to the lake for a couple of hours. (Taking those little guys to the beach is pretty labor-intensive; we need a few hours to just lie back and read).
Have a great day, y'all!

maryea 07-31-2011 01:26 PM

We are heading to church in about 30 min, so thought I'd sit down and post a bit. After church we are going to an All-Church Picnic (several local churches participate). I went over a little bit yesterday cal/carbs and with all the restaurant meals and today's picnic, I really am not expecting a loss, and may even see another gain. It is supposed to be in high 70s, or low 80s today and the sun was out early.

Lynn - I spent some time last night looking at e-readers. At least they are cheaper than an iPad. I realize they don't do everything an iPad does though. I really don't like my netbook which is why I wanted an iPad (well one of the reasons ;) ). But I may settle temporarily for an e-reader to take to the gym as you recommended and when we travel.

Zoe - So proud of you! You are doing well on your eating plan! If you lose too fast, you usually gain it back...at least that's what they say...

glynne 07-31-2011 02:23 PM

Good afternoon GG's,

I missed my window of opportunity to sit out on the deck. I was gonna go and take a cup of coffee this morning ~ it was 74 ~ would have been real nice. But I got side tracked ~ doing some other stuff that needed doing and now it is 92. Oh well. It is nice and sunny out. I will just enjoy looking out at it and be thankful that there is AC :D

Have the sun dresses for Sara and Maddie pinned ~ now gotta get myself in there to sew.

Had a nice day yesterday. Sara, Corbin and Maddie were here. We visited, played with the Thomas the train track, combed mommy's hair.

Hope you all are having a nice weekend.

Take care

Nancyoyo 07-31-2011 03:20 PM

Hey GGs,
Went to the flea market this morning, & then came straight back home because it’s so hot outside! And the AC went out on my car! (Hopefully it just needs charging.) I really want to get out & DO something! Mary could you send me some of your weather? 70’s & 80’s sounds so nice! Maybe later when it cools down we’ll go walking. I hope!

Zoe, Yay! for you - 2 pounds deleted! You’re doing great! Attagirl! Here’s wishing you luck, luck, luck (but you don’t need it, you’re in the zone now!).

Gayle, at least you’re accomplishing something, with your sewing, while you’re stuck in the house. I was mainly just pacing & growling. Couldn’t even settle down with a book! That’s why I decided to visit here (& on FB) for a little while.

Rie, glad you got home safely. Love the idea of the memorial to your great aunt on her 100th birthday! Hope you get to enjoy your relaxing day - you earned it!

Yikes! I've been hearing thunder, but now it's getting close! Maybe a storm will cool things off?! Gotta go.
NCNancy

Riemontana 07-31-2011 08:33 PM

Hello Goldies!

As planned, I spent the day in non-productive pursuits. I am wishing that I had another day before I have to go back to work, but I think that is as much about dreading the day after vaca and all the things that are waiting for me. We just finished a nice supper and the little guy and I are munching cucumbers from the garden. They are still going crazy.

Zoe, congrats on the 2 pounds. Whether or not you get to your goal, you are going to be beautiful at the wedding. And, every pound you lose over the next 34 days will be a pound lost that you won't regret.

Marie, are you totally psyched about your trip? Isn't it this week?

Nancy, I hear you on the heat. It was brutal here today and a storm is brewing tonight. Not a good thing. I worry about hail because we have grain standing in the field and almost ready for combining. A good rain, hail, wind storm now would be a disaster. We farm people are NEVER happy about he weather!

Gayle, it sounds like lovely time with the grandkids. I envy you your ability to sew.

Mary, I hope that you enjoyed your picnic. I think it is so cool that you and dh are so involved in your community.

Bobbi, a young friend recently posted on fb: "does anyone know what to do with rhubarb?" I laughed. Only cake, pie, kugen, jam, etc. Every farm garden here has rhubarb. My mom's is an old "strawberry" variety that is really good and sweet. I liked the recipes for the jam. I think the strong fruit taste would be great on some sf cheesecake, too. Thanks for sharing.

Donna, I think it is a tragedy that they no longer teach cursive writing. They barely teach english these days. I also like the feel of books. I love used bookstores and most of the owners know me by name. My kids keep trying to get me to get a kindle. For now, I will stick with the soon-to-be-obsolete paper books.:D

Karen3, I was so happy to hear that you are driving! That is so cool. It seems like all our independence is wrapped in our cars.... Keep on getting better!

Koala, I hope you are doing well this weekend.

Mustang Karen, you have been doing some great stuff the last few days, as usual! I hope you enjoyed the visit.

Well, I am going to watch a really bad sci fi movie and download some pics from my vacation. I just want to share that if you have the chance to see the lighting ceremony at Mt Rushmore in the evening, you should go. It was very moving....

Have a great sunday evening!

Rie

teati 07-31-2011 08:36 PM

Hi Everyone

I hope to join your group. I've been away from 3FC a long time and need to get back on track. I live in a small town south of Cleveland. The best professional thing that I've done since turning 50: obtain my masters in nursing. I have a fantastic job and love going to work (most days). Best personal things: Help my kids get their college degrees and spending more time with my sister who has health issues.

I'm going to start with counting calories and walking. Work hard ladies and I promise I will too!

212/212/less than 212

glynne 07-31-2011 09:23 PM

Welcome Teati (from another nurse and former Ohioan) ~ this is a wonderful welcoming group. Congratulations on the masters degree. You can do this :) Join right in ~ looking forward to getting to know you.

ellabella 07-31-2011 10:27 PM

It's after 9:30. I can't figure out where the day went. It flew. Today was my high calorie day, and I ALMOST ate as much as I'm supposed to - maybe a hundred calories short of goal. It's okay, though. I think I went high enough to rev up the dragging metabolism. Time will tell. We hit the farm stand this morning after we grocery shopped, and so tonight's supper was sweet corn, fresh tomatoes, mixed greens (that Glory brand that I mentioned here before) and a grilled turkey burger with carmelized onions, red & green pepper strips and low-fat American cheese - on a Fiber One hamburger bun with mustard. REALLY good, and I'm stuffed to the gills. I spent a couple of hours down at the lake this afternoon, read my book, dozed a bit, and stopped at dd3's house with some fresh strawberries for my grandbabies. Once I got home, it seems like the clock went to fast forward or something.
Teati, you're more than welcome here. We look out for each other, and we're glad for all the support we can get (and give).
Sometimes, non-productive is exactly what we need, Rie/Val. Considering that you work full time and just finished up a pretty labor-intensive "vacation", I'd say that non-productive was a good choice. (I'm loving the thoughts of those fresh-picked cukes, too.) Absolutely nothing beats veggies right out of the garden!
Omigosh, Bobbi - the rhubarb! I've never grown it nor cooked with it, but my mother had a patch of it out behind the house when I was growing up, and she would make the best strawberry-rhubarb pies! Anytime someone mentions rhubarb, those pies come to mind, and my mouth just starts watering! :T
Gayle, I love to sew, too - used to make my girls the cutest little pinafores and dresses. I even made a lot of my own clothes. I still get out the sewing machine occasionally when I have my mind set on something that I just can't find in a store anywhere. I'd like to sew more than I do, but time outside of work is so limited that I just can't fit everything in that I'd like to be doing. One more reason to look forward to retirement!
Nancy, I'm affected the same way you are by the heat and humidity. I need to be at the ocean where I can jump in and cool down whenever I need to. That's my idea of the perfect life...a little house by the sea. Too bad those "little houses" are now in the million dollar range. Maybe one of them would sell me their garage!
Mary, right now, I just want to get the weight off - as much and as fast as possible. I'll deal with the consequences - regaining it, I mean - after the wedding. But I really, really DO plan to continue on with it. I'm focused now on becoming a skinny old lady!
Lyn! Please fill us in on how the cardboard boat race turned out! I'm absolutely intrigued! You and your dh are always up to something together...it sounds like a perfect way to spend your retirement!
What's the diagnosis on that yellow jeep of yours, Marie? Will it live to climb another mountain? Sounds like a nice day, nonetheless. Wait! Have you left on your vacation yet?
K3, I'm glad to hear that they've let you get behind the wheel again - having to depend on others to get around is simply not natural. I've been there a few times - once when I had a staph infection in the bone in my foot, and had to have surgery. I couldn't get behind the wheel for about two weeks after the surgery, and thought I'd go mad. Welcome back to the world of independent auto operators! :D
When it comes to pounds, down is always better than up, KarenMO. You've been doing an awesome job...and you'll continue to do it! You're looking so great, and all you have to do is "embrace the greatness" and move forward... (Hey, I LIKE that phrase..."embrace the greatness". Maybe I should copyright it to the GG's???)
Rosey, still having fun with Gizmo and the crew? More pictures would be welcome anytime!
How did the training go, Lynn?
Freda, are you off tomorrow? (I know you worked over the weekend). I hope Monday's a good day for you!
Hey, PT - hope you had fun over this weekend - when are you supposed to hear on that job interview?
Well, I'm about ready to hit the bed - another freaking Monday, tomorrow.
Z

Marie 07-31-2011 11:34 PM

Mary, yes when we had the Costco AMEX card, we got two rebate checks per year. There are items that are just so much cheaper at Costco, it was silly to term our membership for what equaled $13 a year. Also, Kindle software you can search and you set whatever font size you want. I have it set large on my iPhone and can read it without problem.

Bobbi, my MIL in MN make rhubarb jams and DH loves when she gifts him.

Donna, I’m the database mgr and webmaster at a school district. I also do network admin when our network administrator is gone – like he has been the last 5 of 7 weeks. I don’t like working with the servers but I hate working with switches and tracing screwed up breaks in the service. So basically technology. I used to be in HR and I didn’t like interviewing, hiring or firing people. I burnt out on that as well as community counseling, which was my masters degree. Technology is an ok fit for me. Retired sounds much better.

Val, I love your family’s celebration for your aunt.

Zoe, I hope your relaxing day at the lake goes as well as the more hectic day at the beach. Sounds like you had fun. WTG on eradicating TWO pesty pounds from your gorgeous bod. BTW, you might not know where your day went – I’m not sure where 2011 has gone. Or July. Or just the weekend. And Yellow Jeep is fixed and ready to go again. DH is a wonder with fixing naughty vehicles.

Gayle, I love your avatar picture. I can visualize you in front of your AC, your hair just a blowin’.

Nancy, I hope your storm cooled your weather.

Teati, welcome and you’re on your way!

I’ve had a nice day. I went to visit my neighbor and made DH come with me (carrying too much stuff) and we stayed a long time chatting. I’ve been upgrading DH’s and my Macs to the new Lion OS. Took a bit to download the program and then resulting upgrades for other programs that needed new software. All in all an easy process (except Quicken but no one wants to listen to my rant about the turkey’s that didn’t bother to update since they hate Mac users). Booked the two hotels for the two nights we’ll be gone and finalized doggie care plans. Now it is back to work for two days then play for five.

Koala 08-01-2011 07:44 AM

Hello GGs

We are a chatty bunch! I've been enjoying reading the posts over the last few days, but just couldn't get it together to write my own post :o Looking at the number of posts already, I have a feeling we might go over 500 again this month :D

Bobbi - seems like rhubarb has been a constant in my life - strangely, I seem to enjoy it more as I get older. Most commonly, we have stewed apple and rhubarb - it's nice glooped over cereal for breakfast, or with custard for dessert. I make it with no sugar, and I add in some lemon zest and cinnamon for flavour. It's quite tart but I like that. The jam recipes sound d'lish.

Donna - love your new avatar! I agree that kids these days are being de-skilled. They don't have the first clue how to do simple arithmetic, read a map, etc. But they're very smart with technology - anything goes wrong with my 'puter and I ask a kid to sort it out, lol :dizzy:

Rie - such a lovely idea to celebrate your great aunt's life on a special occasion - I'm sure she was there in spirit. Good to hear you had a day "chillaxing" - recharging your batteries would have been the most productive use of your time after your fabbo family trip :)

Z - yay for staying on plan - true dedication! Be proud, not disappointed - it's all about you being in charge of what you eat and the exercise you do, not beating yourself up over a number on the pesky scale. :cheer2: Confession time - I've not been a good buddy over the weekend, sadly I wasn't the boss of my eating :kickbutt: However, today is a new day and I'm back on plan.

Mary - good on you for just a little bit going over on carbs/cals - that's a big achievement when you are eating out. Here's hoping for a loss, or no change!

Gayle - love your new avatar too! Sounds like you enjoyed some quality family time, and the girls will be very lucky to have dresses made with love.

NCNancy - Sounds like you have cabin fever trying to stay out of the heat. No fair that the aircon conked out in your car - how did we cope back in the days before cars had aircon?

teati - welcome to this lovely group. Congrats on your Masters in Nursing, as well as supporting your kids and sister - that's a big achievement! And now you are on your way with your weight loss journey.

Marie - lol at not knowing where 2011 went - I'm the same. It will be Christmas next week ... :D Great to hear that your doggie careplans are sorted and it's almost time to head off on your fun fun fun sounding b'day holiday.

Toodles!

ENJOY!

the slim me 08-01-2011 08:24 AM

good Morning GG's,

It is a lovely morning. It's still cool out and I took my first cup of coffee out to the patio and enjoyed all the newly bloomed flowers. I know that In a few hours the weather will be too hot to stick my nose out the door. My DGD will be here shortly, so I will be busy the rest of the day, but have lots of fun too.

Bobbi, I'm another person that loves rhubarb, and I'll copy the recipes to use later. I haven't made jam for awhile and I think maybe it's time again.

Donna, I too think that our kids are missing out on a lot of basic learning. What will they do if they lose their calculator? Or have to (OMG) write a letter and don't have their computer.

Rie, Welcome home. I know you need a vacation from your vacation, but you have 2 little ones that will have many happy memories for many years.

Z, I think 2 lb is awsome! I know we never lose quickly enough but every pound gone is gone! And it will show in so many ways.

Mary, I hope you had fun at your picnic. How did you manage? Find enough L/C food to eat?

Gayle, Take the time to take that coffee out on the patio and enjoy. You can do the work later.

Teati, Welcome! You will find lots of support here. We're a family and invite you to join. And I'm a nurse too. congrats on getting your masters. Do you want to get into management?

Karen3, Good to hear that you are out and about. It must be so great to have the control that driving gives you.

Marie, Got the packing done yet? I'm glad you got your doggies all set so you can go and not have a worry. Just concentrate on having fun!

Koala, OK, you're the boss today! Tell that eating demon to get away, stay away, you're in charge!!!

Nancy, did you manage to get out for awhile yesterday? You sounded restless. Did you get the storm?

Make it a good one,,,

Good Morning!

I did my new dvd routine this morning. Gilad's beginners weightloss and toning. It came the day before I left and was waiting here for me to get back and get my rump moving again. It is pretty good. I thought it was too easy but I was dripping in sweat at the end. Nice easy routines, though, kinda like aerobic steps for dummies - perfect for me. :D

Freda, I was having coffee on my back steps this morning, too! There is something so nice about that time of day. It was kinda hard to get moving though, maybe I will work out first from now on....

Donna, one of my friends who has a rather bright son (scholarship to engineering school) was ranting a while ago about education. She came home to find that he had dutifully completed his graduation announcements. EXCEPT he had put the return address where the stamp is supposed to go! LOL She was sooo mad. Apparently he had never sent actual mail before.

Zoe, joining you in solidarity for the next little while. I think 2 pounds is great.

Mary, I hope that you enjoyed the picnic and the company. Overall, I know that you are always saying that you go over, but I think you have been doing well with your eating. How is your blood sugar doing?

Teati, Hello Darlin! Welcome. This is a really great group. Just jump on in.

Karen3, How is your day? Did you have a good weekend?

Lyn, hoping to hear a report about the cardboard boat race. You are always doing fun stuff.

Lynn, how was training? When is the race? I still need to go to your site and donate.

Koala, well it is the start of a new week. Didn't someone say here that calories on sunday don't count? Have a good week.

Marie, two days and counting! Yay!

Nancy. How many days are left? only a few, right? till you have your house back? I'll bet you can't wait.

Ok all, sorry if I missed anyone. Off to work. Toodles.

GAYLE Happy Birthday to YOUUUUUU!:cheer2::yay::hb::bday2you::gift::woo:
I just love smilies. LOL

jess1 08-01-2011 11:09 AM

Good Morning, All…
Gorgeous day this fine morning!

Rie – what a nice celebration in honor of Aunty Mildred! I’m glad you all did that… and I’m sure the old girl looked down on it and smiled! Sounds like she was a pip, my favorite kind of oldie! I hope you got rested up from your vacation!!!

PT/Zoe– I’m very proud of your tenacity and perseverance! Good going, girlie! Your food description of turkey burgers, etc. made my mouth water! YUMM!

Gayle -you always sound serene and calm when you’re talking about your grandkids… I think they’re good for you! I’ll be interested to hear what and how the new management changes things. When will this all start to happen? And happy birthday!… :cheer2::cheer3:I thought it was Aug. 3, shared by Marie. Oops!

Freda - Did I ever tell you the story of the cashier at the local Burger King? She’s about 23, obviously from a mid-high income family. The computerized registers were out, and the poor girl could not figure out how much two value burgers ($1.00 each) and the tax ($.07 each) added, and, worse!, how to make change for that from $10.00. It was the most pathetic example of “new” education that I’ve ever seen; however, once the computer came back on, she was productive as can be! I fear for our future, even more than I’ve feared for it this past month while watching the imbeciles (close personal friends) preen and pander for the cameras. Sad, sad, sad state of affairs…

KoalaLou – Hi!

Teati – welcome. Have you another name you’d like us to call you?

Lyn – what about those cardboard races? Do tell!!

Marie – fate of the yellow Jeep? I know you’re aquiver about your trip and don’t care about the yellow Jeep, but WE do! Sounds like you’re the perfect go-to person for computer glitches! It sounds like your DH is currently active military? Are you a permanent posting there or what? Ooops, just read further and see that the yellow Jeep is all better!

I wonder if we’re chattier on 3FC because we’re so very chatty on the FB page? It seems to have opened up the floodgates.

Have an appointment this afternoon with the vascular surgeon for Granny/Mom. The results of the CT scan should be in, and I’m sure some sort of decision will be made about surgery. I had not-so-happy dreams about it last night, which means I’m more worried than I thought. Well, we’ll see.

The dinner playhouse outing was FAB! The setting, the food, and the play were all excellent AND I won two vouchers for free dessert for our next outing ($15.00 value… some GOOD dessert!), which was also a good thing! I had a really nice time. And I’m so glad it was no-calorie Sunday!!

Maybe I'll hear something about the job today, but probably tomorrow. I hate waiting... makes me very nervous!!
Better get rolling! Later, Lovelies!

Marie 08-01-2011 11:34 AM

OK, I know I'm getting old on Wednesday and sort of losing my marbles. Since I was so excited to know that Gayle and I shared the same b-day, I was worried when I saw b-day wishes for Gayle. So I went back to Facebook and clicked on Gayle's profile and am relieved my brain didn't warp. Lately my brain is playing hide and seek games with me and was relieved it hadn't forgotten something I read on Saturday. So I decided you're all playing a trick on us Leo's and aging us quicker than normal. :)

But... Happy Early Birthday Gayle! Way better than a belated one.

Koala, I love the wording that you weren't boss of your eating. I so can relate. I really hope it's not Christmas next week. I have a good few months without major holidays or celebrations to get myself the boss of my eating.

Freda, you made me LOL - literally since I never pack in advance. Besides we're only going to be gone 2 days. I can't forget too much for that short of a vacation.

Val, good job sweaty workout. That cream cheese brownie can't hold a candle to you.

Donna and Freda, so here's a story about math idiocy my DIL told me. She was making change for a customer at the coffee bar she worked at. She counted the change out for an older woman (50s she said) who started yelling at her (DIL) that there were 5 quarters to a dollar and that DIL was trying to rip her off. DIL stood there with her mouth dropped open. Stupidity doesn't know age boundaries. :)

Donna, DH was active duty and is now Air Natl Guard and full-time civil service doing his military job, including wearing the awful looking uniform. So he's permanently stationed here. Good thing because a crowbar would be needed to get me to move. The playhouse evening sounds delight and I hope Granny/Mom's appt goes well.

YEAH DONNA on getting the job!!!! They hired well!!!! :bravo::cp::cb::jig::cheer3::woohoo::congrat::broc :I believe the smilies speak for themselves. Congratulations!

Hi Everyone,

I found a new scrapbooking buddy. One of the women from my book discussion group went with me today. I REALLY hope she likes it and will continue to join me. I have never been a person who likes to do things by myself. About the only things I like to do alone are shopping and exercising. NOT movies, restaurants, scrapbooking.

I am going to visit my friend in South Jersey tomorrow. I just spoke with her and she is having a good day. Hopefully, she will be OK tomorrow.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to those who have contributed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to support my September half-marathon. I am writing each of your names on my marathon shirt – they are already in my heart. You are VERY GOOD FRIENDS!

Zoe, your NSV reminded me of something that happened decades ago. I was with friends in a mall and they each got cookies to eat while we window shopped. I had just started a diet and I got an apple. I felt so proud of myself. Whenever I see those cookies in a mall, I think of that day and how I felt eating that apple. It was a REALLY good feeling and is still remembered after so many years. Hold onto your proud feelings – you earned them!

Bobbi,

I am going to try one of your rhubarb recipes. Thank you for sharing.

Teati,

WELCOME! So glad you came to join us.

I make it with no sugar, and I add in some lemon zest and cinnamon for flavour. It's quite tart but I like that. The jam recipes sound d'lish.

Hi Koala,

Funny – my mother always loved rhubarb & I wouldn’t eat it. Actually, I haven’t tasted it in well over 50 years. My tastes have changed so much, I probably would like it now.

Hi Freda,

Did you ever see one of those emails that lists the kinds of things elementary school children were taught in the last century? Today’s students would fail miserably. If I find one I will post it.

I thought it was too easy but I was dripping in sweat at the end. Nice easy routines, though, kinda like aerobic steps for dummies - perfect for me. :D
Lynn, how was training? When is the race? I still need to go to your site and donate.

Hi Rie,

Those DVD’s are tough. Despite all my exercising, I have trouble keeping up with my Walking Away the Pounds DVD’s.

The half marathon is on September 18th. I have until August 15th to raise the funds.

Hi Donna,

I see this all the time when I give enough change to avoid getting back pennies. For example, handing the cashier $1.01 for a bill of $.76. Unless the cash register tells them to give me a quarter, they don’t have a clue.

Hi Marie,

My fault! Sorry – I just checked out birthday list (up in the sticky area). No Gayle on 8/1. However, we did miss Karen 3’s birthday on 7/28. So ….

Karen, :bday2you::bday2you: Happy Belated Birthday Dear Karen, :bday2you:

For those who have a sweet tooth like me...I also love salty and sweet together! I haven't tried it yet, I'm afraid I might eat them all i one setting!:o
Found this one Chelle's blog at http://blog.recipeforfitness.com

Chelle's Protein Pretzel-Pudding Bites
Recipe by Chelle Stafford

Pretzel Shells

1 cup Annie's Organic Pretzel Bunnies, pulsed into small pieces/flour (I used a mini food processor, a little $10 deal from WalMart). It will look powdery with little chunks of pretzel.

1 egg white

1 scoop chocolate protein powder (my scoop = 1/3 cup)

enough water to moisten the mix

Preheat oven to 350
Spray mini muffin tin w/ coconut oil
Mix ingredients in a medium bowl until pasty.
Press into muffin tin, into the bottoms of the wells and up the sides forming a "bowl".
Bake 7 minutes.
Remove from oven and cool on wire rack.

Protein Pudding:
1 scoop chocolate protein powder (my scoop = 1/3 cup)

3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk, chocolate *you can sub water for almond milk if you need to. The less liquid you use, the thicker your set pudding will be.

1 tsp natural peanut butter

8 drops liquid Stevia (*optional)
Mix in a blender/magic bullet.
Chill in a small bowl or cup until the pretzel cups are ready.
When pretzel cups are cooled completely, spoon pudding into cups. There will be some left over.
Put filled cups on a plate or in a container and cover (saran wrap or a lid is fine).
Chill until pudding is set.
The photo here shows them 'unset'. Once they've chilled for a few hours, they're a solid, fabulous fudgy pudding. There isn't a second photo showing them "finished" because they disappeared too quick!

Recipe makes 12.
Nutrition Data per Pudding Bite: 52 calories, 5 g protein, 5 g carb, 1 g fat, 118 mg sodium, 0 sugars.

TIPS...
I use this protein pudding all the time! For my training meals 2 & 4, this is the go-to treat. I mix up the protein powder, almond butter (or whatever fat I'm using, if I'm using one), and either water or almond milk then chill it overnight. Jello™ has NOTHING on my pudding, folks! This stuff is the bomb! :-)

Good evening GG's,

Thank everyone for the birthday wishes ~ no matter that they are early (yes Marie ~ it is actually the 3rd) ~ it is very much appreciated.

One day down ~ three to go. It was a pretty good day. Went a little over, but not to badly.

Lynn ~ glad you found a friend to scrap book with ~ that makes it more fun.

Donna ~ congratulations on the job. So excited for you

Marie ~ your trip and BD is almost upon you ~ have a wonderful time.

Rosey ~ glad your family had a fun time ~ loved the pictures

Rie ~ way to go with the exercise and being back on plan.

Freda ~ your morning coffee on the patio and the flowers and cool weather sounds heavenly

Koala-Lou ~ good for you getting back on plan after the weekend.

Zoe ~ sewing is fun. I have been doing it since I was a kid. Made my own things. When the kids were little ~ made stuff for them. Now the grandkids. Girls stuff is more fun than boys stuff ~ but I wanted to make something for Corbin when he was younger, so made him Scooby Doo and Harry Potter pajamas. I made Maddie a cute little dress, but she is funny about stuff ~ she likes them more ruffly that that one was, so she only wore it a couple times. She likes this latest one I made better. The one I worked on this weekend, I think she will really like it ~ it is mother daughter dresses. Sara thought she'd get a kick out of having a dress like Mommy.

Teati ~ Medina is not too far from where I grew up.

NC Nancy ~ what is the count now ~ must not be too many days left now until you can do a happy dance :D

Bobbi and Mary ~ thank you for sharing the recipes ~ they sound yummy.

Well, I'd better quit fooling around and head to bed shortly. I know I am leaving some of you out ~ not intentional ~ just ran out of time.

Hope you all rest well.

Take care

ETA: This is the dress Maddie didn't like as much

Hello GGs

I thought you would want to know about this e-mail virus. Even the most advanced programs from Norton or McAfee cannot take care of this one.

It appears to affect those who were born prior to 1970.

Symptoms:

1. Causes you to send the same e-mail twice. done that!

2. Causes you to send a blank e-mail! That too!

3. Causes you to send e-mail to the wrong person. yep!

4. Causes you to send it back to the person who sent it to you. Aha!

5. Causes you to forget to attach the attachment. well darn!

6. Causes you to hit "SEND" before you've finished. Oh, no - not again!

7. Causes you to hit "DELETE" instead of "SEND." and I just hate that!

8. Causes you to hit "SEND" when you should "DELETE." Oh No!

IT IS CALLED THE C-NILE VIRUS."
Made me smile!!

Gayle - Happy Birthday, hope you have a great day! :woo: Lovely pic of Maddie in her very cute sundress, here's hoping the new one will be more her style!

Freda - hope you had a happy busy day with your DGD. I'm a happy little vegemite today - I was the boss of the dreaded eating demon!!

Karen3 - hope you are continuing to improve. How is the driving (read freedom!) going??

Rie - WTG with the workout routine - it must be very well designed to give you a such a good workout, but not seem too daunting. I think the no calorie Sunday works - I braved the scales this morning and was 200g (0.4 lb) down - very unexpected, but I'll take it :)

Donna - your story about the Burger King cashier is very worrying. The world is moving so fast, and kids are expected to know so much about so much - it's no wonder there is no time for them to learn the basics. My nephew saw some of my sister's LP records that she had packed away, and not only did he have no idea what they were, he also didn't know about CDs. He's the iPod and downloads generation. Hope all went well with Granny/Mom's appt - it is a worrying time, once she makes her decision you will know what you're dealing with. Dinner/playhouse sounds waaaay too good :) YAY on the job!! Although, did they have any other choice when faced with your fabulousness and the combined force of the GGs willing it to be yours?? :bravo:

Marie - Happy Early Birthday for tomoz! :celebrate: LOL at the lady saying there are 5 quarters to a dollar - that's the sort of thing I would do! Numbers and I are not friends, we don't talk :?: I should take my own advice - I need to be the boss of my eating, no matter if there is a celebration ...

Rosey - great to hear your family day was such a wonderful day. Great piccies! :)

Lynn - I, too, am a lone shopper and I like to be completely anonymous when exercising :dizzy: Hope your new scrapbooking companion works out. Give rhubarb a go, there's a lot to like about it these days - it's low cal, filling and a good source of fibre.

Mary - the pretzel pudding bites sound very moreish. Let us know if you make them and if they are too tempting! :)

I missed it - Happy Birthday, Gayle..Hope it was a good one.

I will post some of the cardboard boat race photos on FB. it was really fun.

Good Morning!
I was wondering where all the August Golden Girls were, I've not received any emails about the posts? I went the long way around to get here this am and find 31 posts already. Weird huh:dizzy: I did get the email from the birthday thread stating Glynne's birthday was tomorrow.
Glynne...I thought I was going crazy reading all the post from yesterday wishing you happy birthday. I'll have to put you on my birthday reminder list. I love that program that tells me when everyone's birthday is.
Lynn...I've done the same thing, giving the extra penny with bills. It's amazing how smart some kids are but have no common sense plus can't add or subtract without a calculator.
Quote:

I see this all the time when I give enough change to avoid getting back pennies. For example, handing the cashier $1.01 for a bill of $.76. Unless the cash register tells them to give me a quarter, they don’t have a clue.
Donna...so happy for you! When do you start?
The joke on Maxine's calendar today is: "I spend my day snacking and surfing the internet for a good job. Luckily my boss hasn't noticed yet.

I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Freda...cool weather is coming our way, next week will be in the 60's. I love sitting outside in the mornings.
Quote:

Freda…It is a lovely morning. It's still cool out and I took my first cup of coffee out to the patio and enjoyed all the newly bloomed flowers.
Marie...I must have missed the post about your yellow jeep. I had a 1987 jeep wrangler that tried to kill me 4 times. (short wheel base, bad on ice)I loved that jeep so much and DH kept after me to sell it. (I had it 12 years) I finally agreed after he promised me a red sports car. I think I cried for a week, feeling like I lost my dangerous best friend.
I keep getting a notice on my emails to upgrade to Explorer 8. I put it in a few months ago but my printer wouldn't work with it? So I took it back out, wish I had your computer knowledge.
Quote:

Marie…I’ve been upgrading DH’s and my Macs to the new Lion OS. Took a bit to download the program and then resulting upgrades for other programs that needed new software.

Welcome back teati...calorie counting is my game too.
Quote:

Welcome back teati…I'm going to start with counting calories and walking. Work hard ladies and I promise I will too!

Rie...I have the strawberry rhubarb too and never liked it as a kid. My mom made rhubarb pie and it was always too tart for me. Funny how our taste buds change over the years. I think I like it more now because of the next to nothing calories in the rhubarb.
Quote:

. I think the strong fruit taste would be great on some sf cheesecake, too. Thanks for sharing

Zoe...congrats on another two pounds off and gone forever. Will you have to go down a size by the time the wedding is here? Hope so!
Quote:

Okay, with 34 days left to go, I am officially down another 2 pounds.
Rie... too funny about your aunt, she actually raced at 99? I think I could put my evil MIL at 91 into a race, she walks around like a spring chicken. I haven't complained about her for awhile. I quit talking/visiting her for two months because of her nasty vicious nature.:p
Quote:

Rie/valShe was a character. She stopped doing walking races last year because ("I always win - there's nobody in my age group!").
I'll have to come back later for the personals I missed. My favorite radio program is on and I use that time to fill in the cracks in my face. Kill two birds with one stone.
Later

Happy Tuesday, oh, Golden ones! Yours truly is feeling quite refreshed and rejuvenated after yesterday’s playing hooky day, which was spent at the ocean in Rhode Island between our favorite (hidden) beach in Newport and Sakonnet Point in Little Compton where my Dad used to launch his boat all those many years past. Same jetty, same view – but now there’s a private boating club where there used to be a big family restaurant where they would cook your catch and serve it up to you on the veranda. Ah, well. Times do change. Had a wonderful time, though – spent a lot of time climbing the rocks on Ocean Drive in Newport, soaking up the sun/vitamin D (a real MUST for us folks who suffer from seasonal affective disorder/SAD) and after our stop at Sakonnet, we ate supper out on the deck at Evelyn’s Nanaquacket http://evelynsdrivein.com/Welcome.html overlooking the water. (Check out the reviews) I had a lobster salad, which, much to my delight, wasn’t mixed with mayonnaise, as most are, but rather had big juicy chunks of pure lobster meat sitting atop a nice, big & fresh green salad. And, having been forward-looking enough to bring a little bottle of my 5-calorie per Tbsp raspberry vinaigrette dressing, my delicioso supper came to under 200 calories. Since I’d only eaten some cherries on the beach for lunch – and for breakfast, my regular breakfast of one cup of Fiber One (original) cereal, a half cup or so of blueberries and a half cup or so of sliced strawberries and skim milk – I came in WAY under my calorie limit for yesterday (1100) and actually had to make myself a ham and cheese (and fresh baby spinach) roll-up on a piece of 60-calorie pita bread for a sort of second supper in order to get my calories up into the 900 range. Today is a 1350 day, so I’m making pasta sauce with eggplant “meat”balls for supper with a high fiber, low calorie ziti. STILL “on the wagon”, and boot camping those calories! 32 days to lift-off!!!!! Onward and downward! (And, yes ma'am, Bobbi - I had BETTER be down a size or two!)
Lyn, I’m looking forward to your cardboard boat photos! I must admit, I’ve never heard of this sport…tell us a little more about it, will you? It sounds like such fun!
Hah, Koala! Oh, yes indeed. Those symptoms sound VERY familiar! Good grief, there’s so much darned technology out there now that I’m almost glad to be getting somewhat over the hill, myself, so I have an excuse not to deal with it. :p
Gayle, I LOVE the dress that Maddie didn’t like so well!!!! She looks absolutely adorable in it! But you know, I took my dgd (age 10 in November of this year) shopping for summer clothes a month or so back, and she didn’t much care for anything I picked out! What are these children thinking? They ought to KNOW that we elder folk know our styles, right? (Not so much)
Mary, that recipe sounds AMAZING! I, too, am a salty/sweet lover, and these pudding cups sound sooooo good! My fear, of course, would be in overindulging, so I may have to save this until after the wedding when I can cool my jets a little bit when it comes to diet. Not that I plan to go overboard once the wedding is over, but I’m thinking I could be a little teeny-tiny bit more relaxed about it. (I’m already figuring two of these into one of my future menus. I’ll be sure to credit you when I make them and come here to rave about them!
LOVED the bbq pictures, Rosey! Looks like a good time was had by all!
PT, I am SO proud of you, and happy at the same time. Hopefully, things will be a bit easier for you now – and you need to make sure you start saving for our GG’s get together next year!
Okay, Marie…tomorrow’s the big day, and you’re off on your trip, right? (I may have picked up a touch of that C-Nile virus that Koala was talking about.) I THINK you’re leaving tomorrow. I am wishing you a wonderful trip and birthday celebration, friend!
Rie/Val…I’m going to check out that Gilad’s beginners dvd. I desperately need something that will take my status as a neophyte when it comes to exercise into account and not push me too hard. Is there a dvd for pre-beginners?
Freda, I’m with you about kids and basics. How many are actually taught to tell time anymore by a regular clock? Everybody uses digital, now, where all the calculating is done for you automatically. If, God forbid, all the computers went down at the same time, we would have a pretty unprepared population. Scary thought. We old folk might be having to teach people how to build a fire and work an alarm clock. So much for a relaxing retirement!
Glad to hear about your new scrapbooking buddy, Lynn. There ARE things that are best done with some company for sure, but count me as another one of the group that likes to shop alone and take care of all my personal needs (including exercise if I was to do some) alone. Could you resend your email with the link for supporting your half-marathon? I’m very sorry to say that I haven’t yet, but DO want to.
Karen3 – hope you’re continuing to feel better and better every day!
Nancy, I hope you’re getting a break from the heat & humidity – or will, soon. Absolutely LOVE your “southern belle” look, all the same. You ladies from the south DO manage, somehow, to look just “dewy” when the rest of us are sweating like teamsters.
Bobbi, any more rhubarb recipes? Now that you’ve reminded me, I’m getting kind of interested in rhubarb….isn’t there a kind of rhubarb sauce that you could put over vanilla ice cream, or something? I’m kind of thinking something akin to an apple crisp with rhubarb sauce and Fiber One cereal. D’you there might be some possibilities along those lines?
Okay, KarenMo. Everybody out of the pool! You’re just having WAY too much fun this summer! ;)
Have a good day, y’all!
Z

Good Morning, All…

Marie – I hope you’re wending your way toward a fantastic birthday trip! Enjoy, enjoy!

Everyone – thank you for the good wishes and congrats about the job. I really appreciate all of you so much ♥!! I’m looking forward to it, and I’m busily organizing food ideas for lunches and snackies. I have no clothes, though, and I need to do that this week, too… on a limited basis. I hate to shop.

Rosey – looks like the bbq gathering went very well. I loved the pictures. Your MIL looks happy! How did she do? Was the crowd and the excitement too much for her or did she stay calm and, even, focused? It’s good you had it on Sunday; the weather site shows lots of activity in your neck of the woods today…

Lynn – I hope your friend is having a good day today. I know how much it worries you when she’s not! You are a GOOD friend! I was appalled at the thought that we missed KarenFL’s birthday last month, but we didn’t! There are several greetings there, but some of them are in the body of the post, easy to have missed…

Gayle – so, is it okay if we give you greetings again tomorrow? Your Maddie is such a cute little girl… and I think your creations are darling! Kids! What do they know?????

KoalaLou – I’m so glad you’re with us! I think that virus you mentioned is also known as CRC (Can’t Remember Crap) and/or early onset/sporadic Alzheimer’s (I think I have this one!)! Speaking of the world moving too fast to stay caught up, I just heard/read a blurb that DVD’s will VERY soon be a thing of the past, that there’s already a replacement available, as soon as they can convince us that our new machines need to be replaced.

Bobbi – I hope that I don’t have to surf the Internet for a new job while I’m working at this job. I hope that it’s a perfect fit, that the company stays healthy, and that we can have a long and mutually-beneficial time together! In the 2 years since the doc I was working for closed his private practice, I’ve put in over 160 applications… I don’t think there ARE any other jobs out there, and I’m so grateful that I got this one! You make me laugh every time you mention spackling your face and filling in the cracks. I think you’re ELEGANT!

PT/Zoe – your meals sound delicious! Eating like that, all the variety and good flavors, should certainly make it easier to tame your demons! I think I learned in the womb to stash money from every bit of income, so I have always had savings to use in times of dire need. Even when I was plotting to leave husband #2 and we were facing bankruptcy in WY, I managed to stash enough to tide me over when I finally ran off, screaming, into the night. Haha… a pre-beginner’s exercise DVD? How about a virtual pre-beginner’s DVD? THAT would interest me! Lynn, I’d like that link to the Leukemia fund drive, too… now I can send you something, if you could either email it or post it on FB (or here, if that’s acceptable).

KarenFL – just checking in with you…. how’s it going? Good thoughts…..

Took Granny/Mom for her appointment with the vascular surgeon yesterday. The left side is way more plugged than they originally thought (from the Doppler scan). The blockages go down into the subclavian arteries, so surgery there would involve going into the chest, and he said NO WAY on that one. The right side, though, he said is repairable. Given the extent of the left, he thinks she should consider having the right side reamed out. If the left closes completely, she could have a stroke. So, she’s tentatively set for surgery on the 18th. It’s about a 2 hour operation, then she’ll be in the ICU overnight, and, hopefully, will be perky and springy enough to bounce out of there the next day. I have to tell you that I’m the one scared here, not her! She’s so little and frail, this little bird lady! She might be mean as a snake sometimes, but she's my MAMA. I really like this doc. He’s the first surgeon I’ve ever met (admittedly, I don’t know that many!) who hasn’t pushed “hack ‘n slash” as a first, rather than last, alternative. More sagas to come, I’m sure!

I have bookwork to do, have to plan some clothing choices, and have to plan some food choices. It would help to do a wee tad of domestic drudgery, too… and I might color the hairs! My hair isn’t that gray, but it’s DULL and coloring it helps to make it shinier. “Vanity, thy name is……..”
Everyone, hope your day is lovely! Later…..

Riemontana 08-02-2011 11:40 AM

Good Morning!

It is a really bright and beautiful day in Mt, but I look at it with the jaundiced eye that understands that it fortells a brutally hot day. Oh well, "it is a dry heat" whatever that means. I am never dry!

Today I did 45 minutes on the walk it out game. So, I am on track so far.

Zoe, you go girl. Your hookey day sounds wonderful! I would kill for that lobster salad. I have informed my father that if I ever get to the 100# loss that he must take me out for a lobster dinner. As I told you, my dream vaca is to your neck of the woods where I will eat lobster.... I highly recommend the Gilad video (such simple steps) and also the wii Walk it Out game. Both are on Amazon.... Check it out. Due to my heat intolerance, I only regularly excercise by myself in my air conditioned house.:carrot:

Bobbi, yep, Mildred did her last 5k last fall. She had gone blind from macular degeneration but she walked with a guide. She was also fast! My grandpa used to tease her saying, "you are a tough, stringy old bird!" In their weird way, it was a high compliment.

Lyn, I loved the cardboard race pictures!

Koala, I loved the virus joke. I will cc to my dad. My dil was talking last week that she wants to give my grandson part of the life we had. I think the rural lifestyle lends itself a little better to blend the new with the old. The camping and rural lifestyle (without really fancy rv's) lends itself to dealing with things without technology. I hope to keep some of that alive for my family. It is amusing to me that I have become the go-to expert on skills like canning and preserving, growing veggies, etc. I guess I am really taking on the wise woman/crone role!:D

Gayle, have a good day at work. I will get back to you tonight. It was lovely chatting with you last night.

Mary, those pretzel bites look scary good! let me know if you try them.

Lynn, I hope the visit goes well today. Lovely of you to do it. And, it is a pleasure to support your fundraising efforts. What is your goal?

Marie, countdown to rollercoasters! Are you crazy excited?????

Rosey, I liked your family pictures. Family gatherings are very cool and a worthy way to spend our time. Say hi to gizmo for me.

Yesterday I had some nice duty at work. As you know, I have a new position open.:( Well, there was this really terrific, 50ish genuine and caring woman that we interviewed a short time ago. She just narrowly missed (our close second choice) getting hired. She has been working temporary/part time for us. Yesterday I called her and offered her the job. She was so lovely and grateful. It was nice. She told me that she had been so worried because she has mild diabetes and was almost to the point of losing her health benefits. Now she won't have to worry. Nice.

Well, off to the rest of the day. Ds and dgs will be gone this evening so I will have the house to myself to catch up on email, etc. Have a great day!

Rie

Good morning everyone! I am loving this summer weather! I should get outside more...I walked around a bit in the yard late yesterday afternoon and enjoyed it so much. I brought in three zucchini from garden. We are going to have to eat a lot of it fast and also give some away.

I have been feeling a little discouraged about some very sad family issues and also my diet. I am really struggling with getting back on track. I do so well for a short time and then mess up again. At least my weight dropped back down again (probably due to sodium loss) but I'm still almost eight pounds about where I was last year!:( I gained all this over the winter! It's amazing how fast I gain.

Rie - I won't be trying the pretzel bites anytime soon. :( I have plenty temptations around me already. That's nice about the 50ish woman and the job. So many people struggling these days.

Donna - Hoping for the best for your mama. Sounds like she's a real strong perky lady. Getting old is not for the wimps that's for sure..how we handle it is perhaps our biggest challenge..I can only hope to do as well. About hair..my hair is gray..stopped coloring it when I knew I was about to retire...and it too gets dull at times. Recently bought some stuff (not just for gray hair) that is supposed to give shine. I'll let you know if it works. Oh, and I agree with you about Bobbi...she is elegant!

Zoe - Glad you are still on-track and your hooky day sounds great! Glad you had a good time! We all need that now and then for sure.

Koala - I've got that virus!! :D In fact I had a story of something I forgot just the other day that was so funny and I was going to tell you all but now I can't remember it...:?:

Evening all...Do not look off in the East we are not looking at that Tropical Storm Emily.....no nope never! The computer models actual show barely a chance of reach us. More likely hit Nancy and our DD. Funny but a week ago I would have panic with a storm brewing, but after having a good week I knew we can handle this.

A good day for me is that the bazooka fire in my chest is only when I get up from a prone position and S.O.B. only drops my O2 level to 89%. I have exercised every day in the pool and have started using 2lb hand weights. Just as long as my arms don't cross my chest I'm good. That plus walking makes for one sleepy chick at bed time.

I am going play duplicate bridge tomorrow. It will be my first time back. I miss my friends so much. I did the test hug this am with DH. I had my first real hug in 2 months....Stood chest to chest and squeezed tight. Had let Dh be the first. It was sweet!

Gesh a hugh storm is blowing in....got to shut off cp.....bye k3

Mary, have you tried stir frying your zucchini? I like it stir fried with fresh grated ginger. A couple of days ago I dabbed olive oil and seasoning on slices of zucchini and DH grilled it. Very good too, I sliced them the whole length and thin so it didn't take long and they were easy to work with.

My brother called Sunday and told me I better stop and see our dad, he didn't think he'd be around for long. He fell and the whole right side of his face is black and blue. I stopped this afternoon and he looks like death warmed over. For those of you that don't know, he's 97 and living in a nursing home. He's always been very sharp, no signs of dementia. Today all he did was mumble, couldn't make out a word he said. The aides have heard him praying during the day, telling mom he's be seeing her soon. (Mom died 5 years ago) We all hope God takes him home, he's been so lonely since mom died.
DH made chili last night for supper and we're having left-overs tonight. I when he cooks.
 Later Gator
