~~August Golden Girls~~

I think that I have finally found the places where I belong - Shorties and Golden Girls. I'm both short and rapidly approaching 70! I am extremely pleased with the IP diet; it is really working for me. This weekend was a bit of a problem - that small piece of red velvet cake with the cream cheese frosting just reached out and grabbed me;-) I will just have to put in some extra effort this week. I loved seeing some of the recipes and will be very glad in 20 or so pounds when I can actually try them!

Good Hola, All….

Mary – I think frugal is good, whatever the age! As a matter of fact, if that were an American value, this whole country would be in better shape.

Thank you all, again, for all your support during this difficult time. I did stay at Granny/Mom’s last night, and it was a very pleasant evening! I suggested a moratorium on the complaining (for even a few minutes)… She slept very well, which made me happy; I fed her a good breakfast, and she seems so very much better! My sister is going over tonight to spend the night; I told her that she can be nice, even while not accepting verbal abuse. I hope it goes well for them both.

Bobbi – my brother lives in Palisade and has enough land for peach trees. Some guy knocked on his door a few years ago, asked if he could use some of Tony’s land for an orchard, would do all the work, and Tony could have his pick… Such a deal!

FitchyMary – welcome! And how lovely of you to say such nice things to me. I can’t say often or strong enough how much the Gaggle of Goldens means to me! I find support and encouragement and friendship here that aren’t available out there in the RealWorld! Welcome, Mom2TCSDarcy! Welcome WBLALinda! Welcome, Dancer41!

Lynn – hope you’re feeling better! And thank you for the encouragement.

And I need to add my own “allergic” story… I bought some really pretty sheets with flowers on them and put them right on the bed without washing them first. The next day, every place that had touched those sheets (pretty much my entire body, except my face) was swollen almost double, red, itchy… and this lasted a couple of weeks. Turns out there was formaldehyde in the sheets, and voila!, hugely allergic forever more. EVERYTHING gets washed now before it comes in contact with my glowing self.

Marie – hope Kai continues to do well. It does sound like she might have telephoned SamCat, though, since she’s no longer doing her pirouettes and is acting a little stinky about the food you bought ESPECIALLY FOR HER. These kids!

Mustang – I’ll bet you DO dance around doing the hokey pokey… you and Rie, doing her boogie dance! Haha, thanks for the visuals! I’m so glad you take good advantage of Calorie-free Sundays! Cracker Barrel is one of my many favorites!

KarenFL – oh, you made me laugh (again!). You’re so right that I’d think the world was ending if Granny/Mom suddenly became sweet! How are YOU feeling?? And can you pour peroxide on your incision booboo? It might be unorthodox, but it seems to do a wonderful job for any of my oozing booboos, when/if I have them! Haha (again!) with the cheesecake!

I'm home for the day, I think, unless Granny really needs me. SamCat is still VelcroCat... this unrest is causing him undue stress, strain, AND angst! Poor baby! I'm sure he's telling Kai, Ginger, and Sissy really terrible stories!

Hope you all have a lovely rest of the day! Onward!

Hi everyone welcome to our new "GG"S you will love our group. seems the weekend flew by inspite of the rain that kept my old bones achy. the dogs and us survived the trip to the vet. they are healthy and have one more set of shots. sadie weighs 35# and gizmo 2# the vets loved them. gizmo still has a soft spot on his head, never knew dogs had them but vet said to be careful till it fills in. gizmo has learned to ask to be picked up with this cute little whine and then aflying leap like catching a small furry ball. daisy is very tolerant of both. and sadie has learned down and sit and shes house broke.oh what smart puppies. :D we are going to visit my mil later today, poor thing shes more confused than ever and needs to see familiar faces. hoping your sunday is quiet and peaceful  for all rosey

jess1 08-21-2011 06:41 PM

Quick Hola!

I just finished a very lovely book: Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. Loved it!!

Riemontana 08-21-2011 06:51 PM

Hello Goldens!

A big GG welcome to Dancer, Fitchy, Darcy and Wannabe. This is a really great group and I know that you will find a home here.

I have spent yesterday and most of today down at my folks' house since my youngest ds, dil, and gs were in town. I had a nice time. A little weird because I got sideways with my folks over my eating habits. Dad is diabetic but he eats whatever he wants. Lots of carbs and sweets. Sometimes they get frustrated with me because they think that my eating plan is too rigid. Oh well, I hope they get over it someday. At any rate, the time spent as a family was really good.

We have had a couple of days of very hot weather here so I am watering the garden and worrying over the dry lawn. Ds is going to mow tomorrow so I can't water today.

Rosey, those sound like really smart puppies! Housebroken already? Good for her - and you.

Lynn, I hope that you get some rest and that you feel better. It sounds like you are really ready for your race. Maybe you felt under the weather because you have been training so hard.

Donna, you are a good daughter. It is so hard for everyone concerned when elders need extra care. Hang in there. It will get better. And feel free to vent here anytime. Hopefully, Samcat will be appropriately appreciative of your efforts - even if he will not admit it :D

Karenfl, I am glad that Irene is passing you by. I'm sorry to hear that your infection is still plaguing you. Hopefully the new antibiotics will knock it down.

Hey Karen31, I hope that you enjoyed Cracker Barrell! Their hashbrown caserole is the bomb. You have inspired me and now that my back is almost better, I see a rousing Beer Barrel Polka in my future. LOL Sometimes on Saturday evenings, I torture ds by watching the "Big Joe Polka Show". It reminds me of our traditional wedding dances - always a polka band!

Zoe, I can't even imagine shopping with the twins, going to more than one mall, or shopping for an entire day! Bless you! I would have been exhausted. Proud of you for staying on plan. I have survived 3 weddings as the Mother of the Groom - with dil families who did nothing, and singlehandedly conducted the 50th wedding aniversary celebration for my folks. I have firmly told the boys that any future weddings must be elopements. It is a huge and seemingly unending trek through things (like shopping) that I have no patience for. I would cheerfully undergo various medical procedures before I would be in on the planning for another wedding or reception. So, Mog, (Mother of the Groom) I salute you, your poor tired wallet, and your aching feet:hug::)

Nice to hear from you wannabe! I have no idea but sometimes, I have no energy for no good reason.

Marie, Howzit?? I am sure that you will understand how much I miss my excercise. I am hoping that my back has healed enough because I fully intend to start doing aerobics in the morning. I am impressed that you are being social with the neighbors:D I hope that the doggies enjoyed their company.

Gayle, I think you must be working today. I hope that you have an easy day. I liked your picture. You have such a sweet and gentle face.

Bobbi, I hope that you get to the bottom of the allergy question. I take claritin daily in the spring because something bothers me.

Lyn, Freda, and anyone else I missed - have a lovely sunday evening.

Rie

Rie....no no no....Irene is coming this way according to National Weather Service.....but in a week everything can chnage k3

maryea 08-21-2011 08:28 PM

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday! We are finally getting very warm weather...somewhere in the 90s again today! Too hot for me but it is lovely inside the house. I think our AC even kicked on once. After church we went to Olive Garden for lunch...soup and salad (ordered dressing on side and I used very little), one bread stick and shared the apple dessert..hate to think how many calories in the dessert. I was so sleepy when I got home I took a two hour nap..just got up a few minutes ago. Need to go to my Grocery Game shopping but am feeling very lazy still. At least the diabetes med didn't upset my tummy today.

Last night I finished my first "paid for" book on my Kindle. Actually I didn't mean to buy this book for the full price. I had a GC and thought I would get to apply it but Kindle purchases go through very fast and later I read the small print and realized the GC didn't apply anyway. Oh well, it was cheaper than Costco...I know because I had checked it out there last week. It was A Stolen Life and is about the 11 year old girl who was abducted and spent 18 years and had two children with her abductor. It was pretty interesting (and sad) until the end, then to tell the truth, I got bored and skimmed the last chapter.

Wow, this thread is very active! Welcome to all the new GG, Dancer, Fitchy, Darcy and Wannabe...hope I didn't miss any one. Too many posts to catch up on so I won't really try, so only a couple personals..

Donna - Glad that Granny/Mom is dong better!

Dancer - I'm 68 1/2 so getting very close to that big 7-0 too! What is IP?

Marie 08-21-2011 09:08 PM

Hi GGs!

I'm going to attempt to write a post from my iPad. I've been emailing but this is a first. I'm used to resting my fingers on the computer keyboard and you can't do that with a touch screen. Mucho goobly-gook appears on the screen.

The day went well with the socializing. I'm enjoying getting to know my neighbor. I wish her house wasn't for sale. And she said she'd watch my doggies on long weekends. How cool is that? Blizzie is near passed out in exhaustion. She howled at the two boys that played on the diving board for about three hours. She's my elderly, hip dysplasia doggie and it's hard on her. But she's so happy for all her fun. Now my personals will be by memory. I usually toggle between word and firefox to write my posts but not gonna happen on the iPad. So here goes.

Donna, Kai admits to repeated calls between SamCat and her. We both must plan on huge phone bills. I told her to use my cell next time. She did say she couldn't figure out how to conference call so she hasn't included KarenMO's doggies yet but she'd like too since the Canidae food was their advice. BTW I love Velcro cat. Too funny. I'm glad granny mom is doing well today.

Zoe, you're insane to shop with two terrible twos. Are you nuts? I'm glad you survived and didn't nap in the tub too long. And sadly, we have to return to work tomorrow.

KarenMO, did you bring the pups a doggie bag from no calorie Sunday? Sissie sent Kai a text requesting some porterhouse steak, medium well.

Val, don't worry about the aerobics. I've been doing your share while your back has been out. You're right on track.

KarenFL, I'd really like it if you'd fire more of your doctors. How after over two months later can you still have a problem with the incision? Yell at the dr for me. Then yell at Irene to blow elsewhere.

Linda, isn't it amazing how often the lazy days have no rhyme or reason? I can usually figure out the cause a couple days later.

My memory must have be on overload because that's as much personals I can remember. Except rosey, I'm glad your pups are healthy. I know they're happy with you. Now to proof the post with the weird autocorrects iPads/iPhones do.
Marie

Ps. Someday I should post it as the iPad autocorrected it. It did provide a giggle.

Karen31 08-21-2011 09:36 PM

Well, it was a very good day. Met the family at Cracker Barrel and had a good lunch and lots of laughs! I did splurge and had the homestyle fried chicken-- it was the special today and 4 of us 6 had that! I can't remember the last time I had fried chicken and it was good, but not ready for it again tomorrow! And I did bring a whole chicken breast back to share with Ginger and Sissy. Tell Kai that she was pretty happy with that since she had sirloin last night!! Tim grilled that here at home and we had a salad with it... the girls love their carrots, cucumbers and tomatoes too!! Gosh, I hope we don't have to get these guys their own cell phones!!! They always look so innocent when we come back home!!

Donna,, everytime I hear you say Velcro Cat--- I get this picture in my mind and have to laugh out loud everytime!!! Have you tried going for anymore walks with him? It has been too hot here to put the girls in the stroller but it should start cooling down..hopefully!!

Again Welcome to all the new Golden Girls!! I hope you come back and post often... we look forward to getting to know you.

Have a good night everyone, I'm tired and my mind isn't working so good tonight... I didn't get to sleep until about 4:00 am this morning!! No special reason just didn't sleep!

Take care.

maryea, make sure to get on Amazon's email list for the Kindle. They periodically have huge sales on their books. Last month, I bought about 15 new ones for $0.99-$1.50 each. I'm still working through them. When I do that, I read things I wouldn't normally choose, and it has been a very good experience for me. Right now, I'm reading The Mill River Recluse. So far, so interesting, but we'll just have to see.

Back to work this a.m. It's very stressful right now. I am a municipal analyst, and my job is managing the development funds. When there's little or no development, it can be pretty frightening to think about who might be laid off in the months ahead. But I am so thankful to have a good job, so I'll soldier on.

Hope everyone is happy and well enough.

Hugs, Fitchy

Good morning GG's,

Two days down ~ one to go ~ then off ~ yippee :carrot::carrot:
We have been short staffed ~ that makes for stressful days. There are people out on vacation, and it is so hard when people do work, that they don't want to come in on their days off, so they can't get people to fill in, and don't want to pay extra for agency nurses. I don't know what is worse ~ working short, or the situation like at my last work place. To ensure that there weren't too many people out at a time, they would only let ~ like one per shift per unit be off at a time. So, some people's vacation requests were denied. That caused a lot of upset ~ if you had some special thing and to be told you can't go.

That is the kind of thing that made my decision to move here easier. At holiday time, they had a rule where you had to work some part of the holiday (which was ok if your family lived in the area) and they blocked off the days before and after and you weren't allowed to ask for days off during that time. So, for people like me whose realtives were not local ~ I could never get to go spend time with them at the holidays. That was a very depressing time. DH went on without me (I didn't want him to miss out because of my stupid work) and I spent the holidays alone. So glad to be out of that situation.

Sorry I have not been able to get to personals lately. Stuff keeps coming up on my days off ~ the time flies by so fast.

On my next few days off ~ gotta get packing ~ trip for my nephew's wedding is right around the corner. It will be fun to get to see everyone. But as much as I love seeing them, I am always glad to get back home.

Ok, better get off and finish getting ready for work.

Hope you all have a nice day.

Take care

IP is the Ideal Protein diet done with medical supervision and designed for rapid weight loss. I know that my biggest challenge will be in the transition back to a "normal" diet, especially since I choose to be a vegetarian. Should be interesting.

Good Morning GG's

We are finally having such lovely weather! Cool morning and warm evenigns. I try to get all the housework done in the morning and leave my evenings free. I've even been riding my bike and walking outside. Sitting on the patio with a good book. fun things that I missed when it was so hot. Did I tell you about the book Winter Garden? Very worth reading. Thanks for all the other book recomendations. I wrote them down to look for. I was in a reading club at the library for the summer. They have it every year and the winner gets a prize. I read a lot and i'm a pretty fast reader. In the 3 months that we were reading I read 32 books. I thought that was pretty good and I had a chance of winning the prize, an E-reader. The winner said she read 92 books. I just find that so hard to believe. DH said that chosing the winner like that just encouraged to lie. I have to agee with him. But I did read a lot of good books, so not a total loss.

Welcome to all the New GG's. Look forward to getting to know you.

Karenfl, I hope the new antibiotics work well for you. Have you gotten a new Cardiologist yet?

Donna, I'm so happy that Granny/mom came through the surgery OK. Not a good patient huh? My mom is the worst! Sometimes you just have to put your foot down at how much abuse you will take. You are always there for her and she should appreciate that. I hope you take comfort in the fact that you do the best you can.

Bobbi, I hope your effort the reduce the allergens in the house works for your headaches. You've suffered for so long. My sisters son was allergic to everything (or so it seemed). She had to be really careful with dust. She washed his bedroom wall every other day. Had to get rid of the carpet and cutains. You do what you have to do. Someone said something about hanging sheets on the line. Of course they pick up all the pollen in the air. I love the smell, and I don't usually get the allergies untill the fall.

Z, You took 2 little ones shopping? I'm putting you right up there with Marie as a dare devil!!

Rosie, Your doggies tricks sound so sweet. And they must be smart to be trained so quickly. It does help to have an older dog in the house to "show" them too.

Gayle, I know all about working Holidays. Especially Christmas. We have to work either Christmas Eve or Christmas day. Makes it impossible to go anywhere not close to home.

Rie, I hear you about getting flack about your eating when family is around. I'm going to a family reunion in a couple of weeks and I know I will hear about how I must be anorexic and don't eat "enough to keep a bird alive". while they all have health issues and eat all the wrong things. i live in an area with a huge Polish commumity and have gone to lots of weddings with polish music and danced lots of polkas. fun.

Mary, it's hot again there? Phooey! I hope you get some cooler weather soon. You mentioned in a post about the wedding that your husband wore a -----shirt? Was it the traditional Phillipine shirt they were for celebrations? We have a lot of philipine nurses and they wear them some times. I love traditions.

I know I am forgetting lots of people. When you don't post for awhile there are so many you want to address. I love you all!

Freda

Happy Monday Goldens!

I had a really good night's sleep and I did 40 minutes of aerobics this morning. I am enjoying the afterglow with my breakfast and the internet. I was only planning for 30 minutes per day as I ease back into working out but it felt really good. My kids made it home safely so I am greatful although I feel sorry for youngest ds who went to work on no sleep this morning. Oh well, he is young. :D I pulled plenty of all-nighters when he was young.

Karenfl, watched the weather this morning, sounds like Irene is going to hit you our the carolinas. Yuck! As I have said before, I will take blizzards - at least nothing gets broken!

Freda, 92 books is more than one book per day. I don't buy it either. I read as fast as anyone that I know and I couldn't break that mark. It is unfortunate that someone would want to win enough that they would fib something like that. Oh Well, I hope you enjoyed the books that you read.

Dancer, I have several friends and a couple of cousins who have done IP. The weight does come off really fast.

Fitchy, wow, that's a big job. I am a public employee, also. I get really tired of some of the rhetoric that characterizes us as greedy people. Like you, I worry alot about the people who are depending on me.

Gayle, sorry that work is tough but sounds like you are hanging in there. I'm sure the wedding trip will be fun. Where are you heading?

Karen31, that fried chicken sounds wonderful. I miss it but I think I would have to eat my own fried chicken if I was going to splurge. LOL I make really good chicken but it is not on my current eating plan. Those are lucky little girls that you have.;)

Marie, Tee Hee on the furbabies running up your phone bills. I have always thought about the secret world that animals have. We humans are simply tolerated with amusement while they go on with their secret society that we cannot see. It cracks me up. I have always loved stories like "Babe" and Animal farm for that reason.

Mary, so are you enjoying the Kindle? My ds keeps after me to get one.

Well, I have dawdled enough. I will check in later. Have a great day!

Rie

Karen3 08-22-2011 11:32 AM

Quickie...It's working. Everyone keep singing "Good Night Irene Good Night!" The lastest computer models show Irene more towards the East and if we keep it up will even miss NC! k3
