A quick pop in this morning-- Donna, wanted to let you know you and Granny/Mom are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mary, I hope your DH's doctor appt goes well. Eyesight is nothing to play around with.

Val, first, shoot the PA. You should have gotten kudos. Second, I'd laugh but the skin drooping on my legs isn't pretty so I can see why you got on the stool to look, even in pain. BTW, I do admit the skin on my arms and stomach looked worse than fat and I had plastic surgery. I've posted that on 3FC as I don't hide it (hard to hide the arm scars). Near my elbows, my skin draped over the joint like crepe paper. It was horrible. So I get caring about a saggy butt. I'm lucky my tush took the weight loss nicely and isn't droopy, but my legs. Eeks. They droop but I don't care as its way easier to hide than arms. My stomach I had a non-vanity reason, I couldn't find clothes that I could stuff the extra skin in that looked right. Hence, maike it go away. Again a nasty scar but at least I can wear normal clothes again.

Gayle, glad you had fun with DGD last night. I love you countdown your days till weekend as well. I don't like the countdown on Monday but by Tuesday I'm thinking the number is managable. Today, weekend is not far off. Tomorrow I will be dancing for joy.

Zoe, your post had me laughing. It reminded me of when I walked in my mother nude when I was in my teens and was appauled at what a woman's body looked like by the late forties. BTW, she was slender. Now I think back and realize she was pretty. Except her "girls". The nips were big (guessing breastfeeding) and they still give me the creeps. You got the near anorexic and I got the no breastfeeding as the message. :) And YES!!!! on the exercise. Pacing is good.

Donna, on this difficult day. You're getting best wishes and prayers from every corner of GG land.

My trials and tribulations continue with Kai Pixie. I was so happy she ate last night that I posted a video of her eating on FB. Yes, it's that big of a deal since she gets sickly. I'm telling DH on the phone about the GG recommendations and that she ate. He was relieved too. Then before I hung up, I told him to never mind since she just puked it all up. At least I now know Petco will take the food back. This morning she had two chicken/rice biscuits and ate about 1/3 c. of chicken/rice food (that I'd bought last week). Knowing she ate something is good news and she was acting more like herself. I think I'll try the chicken/rice tonight and tomorrow morning, then get Canadae if she goes anorexic some more.

We had a beautiful doggie hike this am. All four huskies were good and hardly pulled (even when Sasha and Kai saw the bunny hopping away). The moon was beautiful and sky clear. I love the early morning (except when that #(&%# alarm went off. Thursday is my no exercise day. I asked DH to pull the pool cover off that I will want to swim. It's funny. I look forward to Thur and Sunday no exercise day and always end up exercising anyway. Last night I did write some so I have started on a followup to the manuscript I finished in July. Fun, fun.

Good morning GGs! We were on our way to the gym this morning when I managed to get ahold of the doctor's office and they had a cancellation so instead of the gym we went to the doctor. I had an afternoon appointment but they were able to change mine too so he saw both of us this morning. He found nothing wrong with Joe so think this is an eye issue but he did say it could be caused by diabetic changes in the eye. His bs is very well controlled though, unlike me. My bs was still up.. 7.1...well, I know a lot of it, maybe all is because I don't stay consistent in my eating plan. I messed up again last night, but will try and use this doctor visit to get back to it today. So far, so good. Told my dh I think I should just stay away from the TV in the evenings...mostly it is reruns right now anyway and that is when I primarily overeat. The doctor increased my medication to 2 tabs twice a day. At least he didn't suggest the injectable medication again. I think he knows how I don't want that. :^: The appointment took longer than usual because they are switching over to an online records system and it is a challenge to them learning it. I've wanted them to do that for a long time. Felt like offering my services...LOL...like they'd hire me! ;)

Donna - I hope Granny/Mom is doing ok. I am continuing to pray for her. Please let us know how things are.

Zoe - I agree...I not only feel better when I eat less (in most ways, although my GERD is worse) but I too feel less hungry when eating less. Strange, isn't it? I wasn't sure whether the GERD thing was my imagination so asked the doctor about it and he said, no food does help to lessen the discomfort, so guess I am right about that. So either it's eat more and not lose weight, or eat less and have the discomfort of GERD! :?: Common sense of course tells me that I still need to eat less for multiple reasons but it's an excuse I guess, but when the GERD gets worse, it does seem to drive me to eat because I know It'll relieve it some.

I'm glad to have Chrome again. I don't have a speed problem, Zoe, I'm satisfied with that, but I have so much trouble with IE and FF crashing and I just like the way Chrome works better and have gotten used to it. I had to go into the registry which is always a little scary for me but I deleted a couple things in there and now it works. Only thing it tells me I need to change my profile and I don't know how to do that. Well, I love computers and am learning all the time so maybe I'll figure that out in time too. :dizzy: If anyone knows though please inform me!

We plan to go to Costco today to do some shopping since the coupons start today. Probably share a slice of pizza for lunch.

Hi all.....Checking in to see if anyone has heard from Donna. Oh well will keep sending my prayers up.

Marie....I cooked vats of chicken for the last dog, Cowboy. It would make the house smell so good that I eventually started using Paula Deens' recipe for low country bog. Which is chicken, smoked sausage and rice. Didn't give the dog the sausage but many a time served company "dog food." I bought the rice in hugh bags. Try her again with less food....if she has been picky she may have stuff too much in her belly at once. I had at one time figured out exactly what a doggie serving cost(????) but long forgotten. It really wasn't more than commeral food.

Rosie...should note you now have a lap big enough for sitting in!

I bought 2 portabella mushrooms and stuffed them with turkey sausage. Will bake for 45 minutes. Toss a salad and dinner is done. Looks good and tastes wonderful. So easy.

Be back later...k3

Hello All,

Struggling a little tonight with back pain. I am actually taking the meds - if I sleep through this it would be a blessing.

I picked my cucumbers and tomatoes when I came home. Ds made a really nice supper of grilled pork and mushrooms, fresh corn and a little polenta. Yum.

I sure hope that everything is ok Donna, and that granny mom is well.

I'm just not up to personals tonight. Hope to see you later.

Good Hola, Goldens!

3FC is being recalcitrant for me.

LONG day! I woke myself up at 3 a.m., afraid I'd miss the alarm, and got Granny to the hospital by 5:15 a.m. The surgery started on time and took about 2 1/2 hours... she came through with flying colors. Once we got her settled in her room and felt comfortable about leaving her, I went home for a brief nap. In the meantime, the ICU nurse called my brother because Granny's BP was off the wall and was causing the incision to bleed profusely. She's basically miserable! She's drug resistant, so the pain meds aren't helping. We ran into her surgeon on the way out of the hospital (they throw visitors out at 6:30 p.m.), and I told him what was going on. No one had called him, and he said he'd check on her.

The plan was to release her in the a.m., but I don't think that will happen... and I hope they keep her at least for another day.

So, I don't quite know HOW she's doing. My main concern is, as always, a stroke, especially with the BP being so high. Not good!

Thank you all for your good wishes and prayers and concern. It means a LOT, and I love you all for caring! I'm going to bed!

Still sending lots of prayers Donna. Thanks for checking in.

Take This Mineral to Stop Age-Related Illness

var replaceurl = location.href;if (replaceurl.indexOf('realage.com') >= 0) { document.write(" "); }

What's in your multivitamin? You may be missing out on a major antiager if it doesn't have this mineral: selenium.
In recent research, even small, hardly noticeable deficiencies in this trace mineral have been linked to a rogues' gallery of age-related maladies, from cancer and heart disease to dementia.
Silent Deficiency
Serious selenium deficiency in the United States is rare. But in a new study, scientists found evidence that slight deficiencies -- so slight they wouldn't have any immediate clinical effect on the body -- could hurt people down the road. It's all due to what the researchers call triage theory.
Emergency Room Theory
According to triage theory, your body is like a busy emergency room -- the most critical systems get attention first. So if you're not consuming enough selenium, the things critical to your survival will be first in line to get fed the mineral. But if you run out of selenium, less critical functions will go without. And although those neglected functions aren't required for you to stay alive right now, they likely have important roles in long-term health. (Related: Meet another multitasking, antiaging mineral.)
Host of Helpers
Those other functions that miss out on selenium when you're running short? They probably have a lot to do with reducing the risk of age-related illnesses. In fact, scientists think they may have already identified at least a handful of those functions -- like healthy brain function and resistance to disease. Basically, scientists suspect that selenium may help run mechanisms that make natural heart-protective, brain-protective, cell-protective, anti-inflammatory antioxidants.
In the United States, selenium deficiency is more common among the elderly and those already in poor health. A supplement is an easy way to ensure you get enough, but if you prefer to get yours the natural way, snack on a couple of brazil nuts. Nutritional content of the nuts can vary, but you can generally expect to get your daily selenium needs from two to four nuts. (Related: Find out the best place to keep your vitamins. And, yes, it makes a difference!)
