Is there such a thing as postpartum depression in grandmothers? For some reason, I feel very down today. Maybe it's all the activity between last Saturday and today, and I'm just really tired. Could be, I guess. I'm forcing myself to stay OP despite feeling like what I need is a nice big chocolate bar.
Was up at the hospital this afternoon, and am going up for an hour or so tonight. My "depression" may also be from seeing the pictures that sil took of everybody they know - including the EX  - holding Isabella, but not a single one of me. Well, the kickboxer was the one taking the pictures, so it stands to reason, but it made me mad/sad/ all the same. Not to worry, of course...DH will get one of me with my new dgd, but I must say a lot of feelings were evoked about what a pi**-poor father the ex was, and how easily he has slipped into the role of "Good dad" now that he doesn't have to support any of his kids. Okay - you know what? Time for me to shut up before you all diagnose me as paranoid schizophrenic or sumpin'. :dizzy:. Personals tomorrow, probably.
Have a great evening, y'all..

After I had my 2nd MRI this morning, I filled out a consent form so they could fax my results and MRI to my chiropractor. He got it just before he left for vacation and told me it was clear as a whistle. No tumors, my vascular was excellent. I asked him about the no disk compression on my MRI and he said it meant that I didn't have any pinched nerves from my vertebraes rubbing together. So he doesn't know what the problem is other than the vertebrate out. I shouldn't have all these headaches, He's puzzled:dizzy: When my regular doctor comes back from vacation, I'll see what he thinks. He mentioned going to a neurologist before I had the two MRI's. My DD said maybe I'm allergic to something and I should go to a Holistic chiropractor that deals with the whole body. She goes to one up in Minneapolis. I just emailed him and told a brief history of my problems. Tiffany told me to start taking some nighttime sinus relief, maybe I've got problems I don't know about. My headaches usually come in the middle of the night. Ask me if I'm ready to take myself out behind the barn and shoot myself.
Quote:

My regular doctor is on vacation this week so I won’t hear back from him until next week. Same with my chiropractor, he's on vacation for 10 days starting today.
I have everything ready for tomorrow so now I can relax, read the paper and do the crossword puzzle.

Hi all,

I just checked in here before I head to pool league. Just want to respond to Zoe.

Sorry that the bonehead didn't get your picture. It is really easy to invoke those old feelings - sometimes because the reality of motherhood is that we often are not terribly appreciated at the time. The ex will always probably get extra credit for just occasionally showing up while you will struggle to do the right thing and no-one will be surprised.

The reality is that you are well loved. Your ex will also miss out on most of her little life because he is too self-centered to stir himself to spend time with her. You, on the other hand, will be grandma Zoe, and she will know you in ways that he couldn't possibly understand.

Oh, to SIL :rollpin::rolleyes::frypan::boxing:

Later all

Rie

Hello to everyone. It has been just a lazy day here all day. Kind of cool and rainy and made me VERY lazy!! Can't afford to have many days like that! But I enjoyed it anyway.

Zoe, like Rie said, you will be the one that the little one remembers doing so many nice things with. I'm sure from what we all know about your EX that he won't be around much. If I was you I would have your DH take a pic of you and Izzy and frame it and put it on a dresser in the nursery!!! I'm like that!!

Things are going along pretty good here. Getting the 5th wheel all set up and it will be ready to go when we are. Right now we are thinking about making a trip to Colorado sometime next month. Will want to visit with our oldest son and get back through Kansas before we have to think about Winter weather!! Kansas winter storms are no fun!

Well, I haven't even come close to saying hello to everyone but KarenFL---so glad to hear that you are doing so much better. I really hate when Dr.s won't listen to you!! And to you too Bobbi... So frustrating!! Hope you both feel better real soon.

Donna, glad the job seems to be going well. Give SamCat a hug from Ginger and Sissy!!!

I'll try to get to more personals tomorrow. Know that I am thinking of all of you.

Marie 08-10-2011 11:39 PM

Just a quick note to Bobbi. My mother suffered from migraines ~1.5 years ago. Had all the CT scans and MRIs - no help. Her dr. referred her to a renown (according to her) Headache Clinic in Minneapolis. She is now basically headache free. I do remember her saying the initial appointment with the neorologist was ~90 minutes long - the doctor stayed with her that long - who knew that was possible??? Anyway, I'd be glad to get the clinic name and dr. name if you'd like. From what I remember she went for about a year but the dr. might be able to do some of the work through your dr. Just a thought.

Zoe, you know that your intelligent children know who the real parent is. The SIL and you don't get along so it's not surprising he didn't bother recording you in the pictures. He has sounded pretty immature over the months I've known you so my guess is his immaturity was blaring its ugly head again.

KarenFL, well @#$(8#$(8$%@!! on the frickin' drs you have. Holy smokes, that is ridiculous! I'm glad you're able to take care of yourself since you are seeing incompetents.

Bobbolink 08-11-2011 08:55 AM

Yes, please Marie. I'm wondering if it's Dr. Leif Schley, he's not only a chiropractor but does other things, treats the whole being. Checks for food allergies, air allergies, mental state, etc. My daughter goes to him. I emailed him last night, this morning received the following email, first appointments are 90 minutes also, $185.00.
Quote:

Hi June,

From reading your letter, it is obvious by now your headaches won't be
solved with simple chiropractic adjustments. There is definitely more
going on here. Either there is a structural adaptation which
continues to be missed (most chiropractors don't do these specific
adjustments I do). Or there is something chemical going on (allergy,
toxic exposure, etc). Or there is an emotional component not being
addressed. In reality, it is probably a combination of the three. I
have had cases like this before with good results. I don't do the
three times a week thing for 4 weeks, etc. My treatment plan usually
sets up an initial exam (1 1/2 hr visit including treatment) for $185
and 5 followups (20 min treatment) for $65. Afterwards we take it
from there, but in most cases I already have some results, depending
on the case and patient compliance. The time you see me is entirely
one on one treatment time. I don't use a lot of gadgets or electric
stim. I will give out some supplements sometimes (as needed and only
as needed). I do require patient compliance and participation.

Maybe the same guy? (Holistic)

Helllooo

Z - lovely news to hear Isabella has arrived safe and sound! You are so in the zone staying OP at such a busy time with so many distractions :) The SIL sounds a charmer (not) and very thoughtless (or mean) with the photos, but he had a part to play in giving you a beautiful new grandie, he's got that going for him. I'm sure your kids know full well which parent has always, and always will, be there for them - and it sounds like it aint the ex. I admire their generous spirit that they can be so welcoming at such a major family event. wii ages - yessss, when I don't like the age I think "stoopid wii", but when it's a younger age I can't seem to help myself from being a teensy bit stupidly pleased.

Freda - hope you're relaxing and recharging your batteries ready for the return of your grandies.

Rie - that's a great idea your gma had to keep a list of who got what. One of my aunties put little labels with the receiver's name under each of her preciouses, and always threatened to move the labels around if any of her kids misbehaved ;) We prolly call a sweet and spicy hamburger just that! But an Aussie hamburger with the lot is the fave - yummo!

Bobbi - so frustrating trying to get a diagnosis for your headaches. My neighbour uses a buckwheat pillow - she says it has really helped with her aches and pains. Just a thought 'cos you said your headaches start in the night.

Marie - I like airports - they mean either I'm on my way or I've arrived - both are good! But I don't think I'd like to be confiscated - I will change my instructions ;) LOL at not wanting to disturb the dustmites :dizzy:

Karen3 - you can have sloppy joe pizza too??? LOL at Velvet Hammer. When I was a librarian the kids used to call me "Conan the librarian" :D That's a horrifying story about the infection on your scar. Lucky you had the medical knowledge to know how to handle it. Blmn medical profession, once you get in its clutches you can't get out.

Rosey - glad all is sweetness and light in your home again. What's that song ... "you say it best when you say nothing at all" :)

Gayle - LOL at your vivid imagination thinking up ways to take revenge on the nasty doctors  Oh dear, you've suffered an attack from the sugar monster - it's soooo good while it's happening, but afterwards is a whole other story, been there, done that, got the Tshirt (XL of course because I've done that grrrr  ).

NCNancy - we're glad to see you back, you'll soon get back in the GG groove. Hope all goes well with SO's colonoscopy - yuck, don't think I'd like that at all.

Lynn - ack, no fun battling traffic for such a long time to do something so uninspiring. Def talk to the person assigning tasks - such a waste of your skills. Hope the new shoes are the solution to your foot woes.

Donna - ouch, that hip sounds painful, keep up with the stretches - sounds like they do the trick. Glad to hear SamCat coped better yesterday. There was a needy boy cat this side of the world too - I had to do my yoga stretches while holding Mungo, would you believe?? :dizzy: I'm going to quote you "I can multitask, but I can also prioritise" - gold! Sloppy joes sound derlish!

Lyn - good going on the walk/jog and yoga! Every little bit helps, or so I tell myself.

Sherry - *hello*, lots of visitors keeping you busy and happy.

Mustang Karen - such a relief that the weather has broken - you've had some pretty extreme temps. Your travel plans sound fab!

Toodles!

Just a quick post to say I'm back! We had a quiet but pleasant brief trip and it is now good to be home again. Even with that brief a trip seems like there is much to catch up on. I am happy to say I stayed OP and the weight is dropping although not nearly as fast as I'd lke. :^: I hope I NEVER allow myself to gain again! About to leave for yoga stretch class and I've got new gym togs too! This sure has been my month to shop...we stopped at the BX on the way home and I got three (one for the gym) pairs pants, one shorts, and 3 tops! Nothing very expensive but it is fun to have so many new things at once. During the trip I posted more on the FB page as it was easier with my phone but I will try to get back to my at least daily posting here now.

Karen3 08-11-2011 03:55 PM

Howdy all....Can you smell my house. The peach cobbler is almost done. It smells like heaven. I bought the peaches, but they were hard so left them in the bag on the counter(open) 2 days and they were perfect today. Close as I can figure on fitday it will be about 170 cal/serving. I used brown splenda, LF Bisquick and FF milk. Am sticky down to my elbows. Damn does that bring back so many memories......my kids loved them. Best is hot of oven....be back later....k3

Karen3 08-11-2011 04:01 PM

omg!

ladyinweighting 08-11-2011 04:03 PM

Mary and Bobbi, I am so sorry to read about your continuing problems. I wish I could send out Dr. House and he would bounce his ball and cure everything.

Zoe, I am so sorry about your dumb_ss SIL and ex-DH (and I don't mean "dear"). What idiots!

I did my 5 miles this morning. Then, I met friends for lunch and some light shopping in a local little village. I tried on a pair of "not your daughter's jeans." GREAT fit, but too expensive - $109! I will see if I can find them online.

Have a great day,

Lynn

Marie 08-11-2011 04:21 PM

Bobbi, I will call my mother when she returns from her trip. I believe her doctor was a neurologist, but I'm not sure. I will ask, though. I think she'll be home early next week.

Koala, love the conan the librarian label. But did you alwasy use your library voice to use Karen's velvet hammer?

Mary, glad you made it home safely. Good job on the shopping. BX clothes tend to be nice quality.

Karen, I am so jealous. Fresh peach cobbler. Yum!

Lynn, NYDJ are expensive but I've found them worth the price. They're beyond comfy. But you can definitely get them on ebay for less.

Doing well on my diet and exercise plan. DH working swings makes stying on plan so much easier. It's amazing how quickly I get used to being by myself. And not that I'd admit it, I do like it. This weekend he's going to Reno to visit DD and they're going to the Hot August Nights' car show. So I won't see him till Sunday for just a couple hours and then the following Saturday. TG I have my favorite doggies in the whole world. If I didn't, they I'd be really lonesome. But I have four furry friends and I like being alone.
Marie

maryea 08-11-2011 06:00 PM

Lynn I've seen NYMJ on ebay in the past haven't tried recently.

Karen3 - That cobbler must be GOOD!! I love peach cobbler but I'm scared to have it around. I have some fresh peaches too...hmm...170 would be a mini-meal for me. I agree with you about knowing your own body. I have made at least three decisions against doctor's orders and have never regretted them. One doctor told me...you don't do everything we tell you, do you? :D
I tell the doctors they are there for the info...I pick their brains, but I'll also do my own research as well, listen to my body and make my own decisions as long as I can, thank you very much!

Marie - Guess what you DID admit it! :D And I can see while him being on swing helps with your diet. I like being alone sometimes too. And Marie you still have us! ;)

Z - Families can be so darn difficult, can't they? I never knew having four children would create such drama, but there is always something going on.

Bobbi - I sure hope you can get some help for your headaches too. It's nice to rule out stuff but it's also good to find the answer! I get headaches from certain odors...and it can be from something that actually smells good..it's wierd. They have tested me and I have no allergies but they call it a vaso-motor response. Some things make my nose run, some give me a headache, but no histamine is produced. Wierd!

Lynn - I don't even remember what I was complaining about now....LOL with me it's always something but nothing very critical just annoying to me. So I am thankful for that! But thanks for the support. I love this group because you are all so supportive and encouraging!

Well, gotta run...have a good evening everyone!

jess1 08-11-2011 06:40 PM

Good Hola, All…

Lyn – are you training for a marathon or race or are have just LOST YOUR MIND???? Wowsers, that’s a lot of exercising you’re doing these days!

Lynn – I hope those new shoes help. A pinched nerve from a too-tight shoe would certainly do what you described.

Hi, Laffalot/Sherry!

KarenFL – I hope you’ll at least consider taking yourself in for a check, now that the whatever has been popped and is draining. I’m just so concerned about this all being so close to the heart, so close to the incisions, etc…. I’d hate to have some cross contamination occur and cause you even more problems. I know you’re sick to death of doctors (inept doctors, especially!), but your health is the over-riding concern. Please think about it!

Your peach cobbler sounds WONDERFUL! My brother brought us some Western Slope peaches (the very best of the best!), the kind that drip down your arms… OMG, so good!

PT/Zoe – are you feeling better? Maybe you were just exhausted and overwrought and excited and it all got to you. I’m choosing to totally ignore both the SIL and the EDH (ex-dumb*** husband). I like Mustang’s idea of a photo of you and the lovely Isabella for the nursery, but I think I’d go for POSTER size!

Bobbi – I hate your doctors. That being said, your new doc, Schley, sounds like he knows from whence he speaks! Are you going to see him? It’s ridiculous that nothing has been done, and I continue to be aghast (yes, AGHAST) that they just got around to ordering a neural MRI.

Koala – as always, lovely to hear from you! Mr. SamCat seems to be coping pretty well now. I was off yesterday, and he was VELCRO cat! Indeed I CAN imagine doing yoga stretches while toting a big ol’ cat!

Mustang – SamCat said “meow” to Ginger and Sissy for the hugs. He’s a good hugger!

Mary – glad to be home?

Today was a good one. I think I’m really going to like this job. Sourpuss didn’t come in. Apparently, she did that often, just took “mental health” days off whenever. It just entrenches me; they aren’t going to be willing to dump me to rehire her, if/when it ever comes up. I really like the boss and the other Jack-ette of all trades… It’ll be good.

I made an egg casserole that I like, which will be good for 6 breakfasts. It’s good and good for me! I’ve been very compliant these days, and it’s been pretty easy. There are no snackies there!

Better get busy… SamCat is looking weak, pale, wan, and hungry. He eats very little, but very often.

Everyone, have a lovely rest of the evening!

glynne 08-11-2011 08:34 PM

Donna ~ would you share your egg casserole recipe ~ sounds good ~ I am needing some different breakfast ideas.
