Good morning, I am going to try to check in more often. Things are pretty busy around here, we farm, but the wet weather has made it impossible to start field work, since we farm organically its better to wait-for the ground to warm up and to help stay ahead of weeds some what. I have 150 new laying hens started and will be getting broilers to raise on pasture as soon as it warms up more.
sorry to here of your loss Rosey.
Bobbi, I love Maxine. we had tacos for dinner last night.
Don't have enough time to comment on all of your posts but will try to do better.
I had a dr appt yesterday and my cholesterol is up, I have really high good, but also really high bad! dr wants me to take more crestor, but am going to really watch my fats, I walk at least 3 times a week with a friend, going to bump that up at least 3 more days, maybe I can get hubby to join me.
I don't follow any plan right now, and know that is my problem. My friend has had weight loss surgery and is going to a class (she had the surgery 4 yrs ago) and is learning lots of strategies to help with her weight loss, she has lost a lot and is so much healthier but has gained about 20 lbs over the last year.
I live in Michigan and our weather may finally be getting spring like! I am afraid we are going to head right in to summer when it warms up.
Maryea, some times when we notice weight loss we don't know what to say without making them think we thought they were fat, maybe??
Well, dishes are calling and I must get ready to be at the farmer's mkt tomorrow.
be back tomorrow afternoon.
Pam

Morning and thank you it started to rain about 1/2 hour ago. A nice steady gentle soaking rain.

Rosie.....Am so sorry about losing Rosey. Our furry kids are such an important part of our lives. All they do is love us unconditionally.

We have literally pigged out on vegies this week. Still have another meal of fresh stuff to use tonight. Last night was corn on the cob, green beans, new potatoes and tomatoes. Oh and made my hugh recipe for zucchine bread. Gave 1/2 away and freezing 2 loaves. Just a hint of size. 15 cups of flour(which is 5 lbs minus 2 cups) 12 eggs(eggbeaters) 12 cups of grated zucchini etc.......and only 1 cup of oil....used splenda not diet friendly but not totally evil.

Rie...wow looking good girl!

I'll be back later.......k3

Good Morning....
Just wanted to say: "Rie........ Great pictures! Great change! Great JOB!"

Off to gather the old ladies so they can visit at each other. Neither can see or hear, so they just yak away.... at the same time.... about different subjects! It's good to get them out of the house, though...

Hope your day is lovely!

Hey GGs,
KarenFL, I’ve got a complaint! Your son’s book kept me up til 11PM last night! I finally decided I had a little time to spend on the computer, so I downloaded the free Kindle app from Amazon, & then ordered the book. I started reading at around 7:30, & then just couldn’t stop. I only took time out for my nightly snack & a bathroom break. I had to find out how it ended before I could go to bed. Obviously I really liked it!

Rie, good before & after pics. I can really see a difference. You’re looking gooood!

Hi Pam. Glad you’re finally getting spring-like weather. We’ve been having a cold spell here the last couple of days, but now it’s warming up again. I think our weather’s going to do what you mentioned - go straight to summer. They’re saying temps will be in the upper 80’s by the end of next week!

With all this talk of gardening here, Bobbi, Lyn, Sherry, Donna, Mary, Zoe, Karens, etc., etc. (Do all GGs garden? Is it a requirement?!), I’ve started planting a little. Whenever I go in Wal-Mart, I’ve started picking out 3 or 4 cheap plants (less than a dollar). So far, even with my black thumb, I’ve only killed 4 or 5 of them (out of about 34). Pretty good for me! Of course it’s only been about a month since I started planting them, so we’ll see……

Gayle, glad things were a little better for you yesterday, & that you took some time to relax & visit here. That is relaxing, isn't it! Mary, doesn’t your DMV send a notice when it’s time to renew your license? Ours does. Good thing, cause I’d never remember!

Time for me to go “accomplish” something. I’m trying to get 2 “extra” things done every day (can be a small or a large project, as long as I do 2!), & so far today, I’ve only done one. So, bye y’all.

Why is it men can eat most anything they want and not get fat? Even though my dh is diabetic he can doesn't measure anything, and doesn't count carbs but his bs does better than mine even though he's had the disease longer. He also does not have as big an appetite as I do. It just isn't fair! :( Ok, I'm done venting.

Worked out slightly less than an hour this morning as we didn't have stretch class. We do a few stretches before we start the machines though. 15 min on the bike, 15 min on treadmill, and I did three machines for 12-20 reps depending on which one. Not a lot but I get so tired if I try and do more. Then I never get anything else done all day.

I have to run out to get a gift for my youngest dd's birthday. Otherwise I'll be home finishing up odds and ends. Tomorrow is our gd's college graduation...she's the first of our gc for this, so we are very proud of course. So I won't get to play catch up tomorrow here at home as I usually do.

It's been a cloudy day...but looks brighter outside now so think sun is trying to come out.

Karen3 I love veggies so your diet sounds good to me!! I'd have to skip the zucchini bread though as I love it too much!

Pamb - interesting that your good cholesterol is high too. My good is slightly low but at least the med is working on the bad. Still not as low as I'd like but better than it was.

Bobbi - I try to eat slowly too but sometimes I forget and just eat. I tend to fill up very fast (if I really "listen" to my tummy) but then I get hungry again really fast if I stop eating too soon. Oh, I'm so tired of having to be so absorbed in thinking about my eating! I want to be free to just eat but know I can't. Whoops, I slipped into venting again, didn't I?!!

Well, gotta run...

Hello, GG’s!!! Another Friday! Yay! Bike riding tomorrow, Mother’s Day on Sunday – secret plans in the works by the children/grandchildren. Supposed to be sunny & nice but with the occasional (maybe) shower. Is New England developing tropical weather patterns or what? Yesterday I had to be in Boston all day and driving home on the Mass Turnpike, it kept raining – at one point hail the size of peas was hitting my windshield – and then after a few minutes, the sun would come out and it would be really bright (driving west into the sun is always a little icky) and then it would start to rain again. It kept that up all the way home. I would have my sunglasses on, then the sky would get real gray & dark and I’d put my regular glasses on, and then a few minutes later, the sun would be glaring at me again. I spent the whole drive switching between sunglasses and my regular ones. Really bizarre.
Oh, Rosey, so sorry about your doggie. So sweet looking. So hard when you lose a pet that’s been a part of your family for such a long time.
Got a real giggle out of your old ladies visiting each other and gabbing on about completely different things, PT. How nice of you to make that possible for them, though! I’ll bet you they really enjoy those visits.
Oh, K3! All those marvelous veggies! I am SOOOO jealous! My mouth is watering here just thinking about the corn & tomatoes. I want a corn and tomato supper!
Pam, you’re probably right about others not knowing if they should mention it when they notice you’ve lost weight. It never even occurred to me that in order to acknowledge weight loss, you also have to acknowledge that a person was overweight to begin with. A sticky subject, indeed, and some of us are likely more sensitive than others. For myself, I’d like for each pound gone to be noticed and remarked on.
Speaking of which, my Golden Sisters, I have had, I think, a slight NSV for myself! I haven’t weighed – won’t do that until Sunday (before my Mother’s Day surprise, which will likely involve SOME kind of food) but this morning when I was getting ready for work, I happened to glance into the full-length mirror on my closet door (I rarely do this; it’s not usually a sight that I want to start my day by seeing) but today I actually noticed that my tummy area is actually getting flatter. YAY. (I hope this means I’ll be bathing-suit ready by the beginning of June; of course there’s bathing suit ready, and there’s bathing suit ready. I’m content just to look “acceptable” on the beach; I’m no Helen Mirren thinking I ought to be looking good in a bikini still!
Thanks for the tip about Hebrew National, Bobbi! I just love hot dogs, but don’t very often allow myself to eat one. At 40 calories apiece, I could certainly indulge myself in a couple if I wanted to! Enjoy that sunshine! (I’m hoping to see as much of it as possible this weekend).
Congrats on winning the exercise mat, Mary! WAY cool! As far as the expired driver’s license is concerned, my 40-year-old daughter forgot to renew hers, so we at least know it has nothing to do with our having reached our “Golden” years, huh?
Gayle, as far as resisting the cookies (and all other fattening goodies) I tend to be at my strongest when I have a specific timeline in mind – for example, I can resist much better thinking about wearing that bathing suit in another month than I could over the winter when I knew nobody was going to see much of me anyway since I was all layered up against the cold.
GOOD JOB, Rie – there’s for sure a big difference in those pictures! Very impressive. Shows what we’re capable of when we put our minds to it, right?
Lyn, this weather is elevating my mood….I am so miserable through the winter months. Sure wish I could move in next door to karen3!
So Sherry – do you and Maureen know each other in “real” time? So neat! The rest of us are all so far apart!
Nancy, MY sister is a teeny-tiny little thing, too. VERY annoying, and that’s the truth. Now that she’s older (she’s in her middle 70’s now) she’s gotten thicker around the waist, and like you, I have to admit to being just a LITTLE pleased. (And I know how wrong that is! I’m embarrassed and ashamed :o , but STILL a little pleased!)
Karen31, you are doing an amazing job losing that weight! Since we’ve been together on 3FC for quite a while now, I feel like I can say with every justification that I’m REALLY, really PROUD of you!
Freda, I just don’t know how you manage to work all those long hours on your feet! I don’t think I could, no matter how much weight I lost! I hope that Donna’s cream helps!
Hiya Lynn….how did your negotiations for that online course at your old college go? I’ll bet they jumped at the chance!
Okay, that’s it for now….Happy Friday everyone, and sorry if I missed anybody (I love you, too!)
Z

Hi Everyone,

Rosie, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. Wish I could give you an "in-person" hug. Guess we'll have to settle for a virtual one - :grouphug:

It is a BEAUTIFUL day here. Today was the last day of my digital photography course. We all presented our photographs. Interesting how everyone's work was SO DIFFERENT!

Have a wonderful rest of your Friday,

Lynn

Hello Golden Girls!

Since I have a little time, let me catch up on personals...

Pam, I love thinking about all those little chicks. I still live near our farm but we don't farm anymore and I really miss everything. Mostly baby animals and the seasonal tasks.

Donna, the idea of the two ladies and their get-together is so sweet and too funny! Bless you for taking them.

Karen FL, I sure would like to have some fresh corn and tomatoes. It will be a long time before that is possible here in Montana. That sounds like a monster batch of zuccini bread. Do you ever make Chocolate? As I recall, you simply add cocoa powder to the recipe. It ends up tasting like chocolate spice cake. I am looking forward to returning to my roots in preserving veggies this year. I know that I can freeze/can veggies with no added salt.

Nancy, actually, I hardly garden at all anymore. I only grow things in containers because I HATE pulling weeds. All in all, I would rather spend the summer fishing.... I also think that people either don't know what to say about our weight loss or they are just so centered on themselves that they can't recognize anyone else's achievements.

Mary, I hear you! Men seem to be able to maintain their weight easier and maintain their blood sugar as well. I don't get it! Congrats on gd graduation - that is terrific.

Bobbi, thanks for the hebrew national tip - you are right, they are terrific. I had two without a bun. Will become part of my camping food this year.

Zoe, as always, lovely post. Terrific NSV. I loved it. Nice to look in the mirror and not cringe.

Freda and Lynn, wow, you are always involved in so many interesting things.

Tonight I have the house to myself. I have been battling a cold for the last couple of days. I am going to watch a movie and give myself a pedicure. It is really fun to be able to reach my feet easily again! LOL

Have a terrific evening.

ladyinweighting 05-07-2011 11:58 AM

Good Morning, Everyone,

I just got back from the grocery store. I bought the stuff for tomorrow's picnic lunch - got enough for at least 2 picnics.

This afternoon, I plan to try to teach myself how to add a voiced script to a Power Point presentation. I have the presentation and I just bought a microphone to connect with my computer. I will let you know how it goes.

Have a great day, Everyone,

Lynn

Good Morning and Thanks to everyone for the encouraging words! I have found it to be kind of hard to get back into a routine again since being gone from the wii. BUT I'm trying. I did my workout this morning with it and did 4.754 miles of the jogging in place over 20 minutes. Which puts me at 400.236 miles since I started keeping track on January 13. I have been keeping track with this on the 1,000 miles in 2011 thread. Kind of fun.

We are meeting everyone after church for Mothers Day brunch at a buffet!! Wish me luck there! I keep telling myself to just load up on the salad stuff! Maybe I'll listen this time!

We have decided to take a "mini" vacation to Branson, MO. leaving on the 16th and being back on the 18th. We bought this package almost a year ago and we have to listen to their sales speech but I'm 100% sure we won't be buying a time share condo!! But it was a nice way to get to see Branson. And I made sure that my "girls" can come--told them they are too spoiled to leave with anyone else! So I will be bringing their small airline kennels and when they have to be in the motel room alone I will put them in there. That way I won't have to worry about a maid coming in and letting them out the door!!

Well, guess I'd better get busy and get on with my day. Everyone enjoy your weekend!!

Riemontana 05-07-2011 12:56 PM

Good Morning!:D

This morning I did an extra 20 minutes of aerobics for a total of one hour and twenty minutes. :carrot:I am attending a birthday party later and although I have a plan, I am sure that I will enjoy a small treat.

Wow, Karen, that is incredible! You must be going at a pretty fast pace to do that many miles! And that total - amazing. Have you ever heard of a wii game called "Walk it out"? I just started using it a while ago. It is kind of a game that you play by walking to music. I like the idea of keeping track of your walking. I am really motivated by having a record of my progress. And that Branson trip sounds like fun. My MIL went there last year and loved it.

Lynn, good luck with the powerpoint. I use it all the time but I have never attempted the voice stuff. Let us know how it goes....

After the Birthday party I am going to come home and continue getting things together for my trip to the pool championships in Vegas. I am planning to dye a pair of jeans black with the old fashioned RIT liquid dye. Any advice?

Have a great Saturday!

GORGEOUS day today! And my strawberries are really taking off! They seem to LOVE the topsy turvy planter thingie (LandscapeGod says that's the best way to plant them, so alrighty then!). I have little blossoms already!

No news. I'm feeling great, and nearly all signs of my age related angst/disease are gone! All you nurses out there: can I get vaccinated to prevent future outbreaks or am I just doomed to hoping for no more?

Happy Mom's Day to all you moms out there! Good weekend to one and all........:cloud9: :queen: :cheer2: :cheer: :belly: :thanks2:
