Morning, all...had a fab day in Newport yesterday!!!! I'm feeling quite chipper today, despite the fact that we'll be having a 40th birthday party for my daughter this evening!!! (How can a child of MINE be 40 already??? Yikes!!!!!! :o
Great news on the bone scan, Mary! Oh, and I can sure identify with that up 5, down 5 syndrome. Seems like I've been on the same one myself most of the summer. Makes me so annoyed with myself, but I just haven't been as committed as I ought to be. I'm working on it now, though...so far (over the past week) so good. :) Before I forget (again)...where are YOU, Freda m'dear? Hope all is well, and you're just not around because of a busy (and happy) life! So sorry that you're having all that pain, Karen3...:( I sure hope you'll be feeling better soon! Okay, Gail...you're off the hook for not checking in. Omigosh, a new grandbaby to cuddle! So amazing, isn't it? Our twins are 17 mos. old now, and racing around getting into everything. They're like two little dynamos. I sometimes look at the pictures we took when they came home from the hospital weighing just barely 4 lbs apiece, and can hardly believe they're the same babies! They're big boys, now - in the 90th percentile for height! I know how much you love all your grandkiddos, but babies are so special, aren't they? I see that you're with us on grandbaby-enjoyment, Toonses! Rosey, we all hit plateaus from time to time, so no need to worry about not losing....way more important is that you didn't GAIN! Excellent, m'dear! You just keep up the good work, you hear? I just KNOW that by this time next year, you're going to be a whole new woman! (Although the old one is pretty darned neat!) Omigawd, PT! Wherever did you find THAT picture? Never mind the perky little boobies, looking at it almost had me wanting to go out and find a steak to gnaw on, or something! (Luckily, I was able to quell the urge before doing something I'd regret forever...now the hot fudge sundae that I ALMOST got for myself...that's a different story...I mean there IS that constant worry about what IF I deprive myself, and then step out in the street and get hit by a truck? :?: I'm beginning to see, though, that if that DID happen, it's likely that the LAST thing I'd be worried about would be whether or not I'd eaten that last hot fudge sundae....) Hiya Bobbi...you busy with the harvesting and canning and freezing and such? (What a tornado that woman is, eh?) Well, we miss you, so try to drop back by soon! Hi Lynn....hope all is well with you. You too, Karen31. Isabella?????? Have a great day, GGs!!!! :grouphug: Z |
Good Morning, All....
PT/Zoe, you sound so chipper and perky! I'm glad your staycation has been a good one! And I have to tell you again that I LOVE that picture! You're just fab, dahling! Mary, I want to come and have coffee with you. You're so sweet, and I so much enjoy your posts! Bobbi, I know you're off doing incredibly productive things. Lynn, hope you're feeling better. Rosey, I'm so proud of you! KarenMO/FLO, hope all is well (how's that sciatica, KarenFLO?)... Everyone, have a lovely day and be safe. Status quo here. No complaints!! Isabella....... Isabella....... wherefore art thou, Isabella??????? |
Hi Everyone,
My most important goal this weekend is to have VERY few carbs. My sister is visiting and she is a little think (about 110 lbs) but eats EVERYTHING! I upped my eliptical exercise to 10 minutes (added to the 60 min of bike & treadmill). It always surprises me when my body responds as I want it to. I started out the week with 5 minutes on the eliptical being REALLY difficult. Each day, I added another minute. Every day it got easier to do more. Have a good weekend. Lynn |
Hi Everyone,
We're having such lovely weather! Finally! It's cooler and the sun is shining. But the last day i went to work, it was still dark outside. I keep thinking, soon it will be dark when I leave and dark when I get home. But I fully intend to enjoy the fall season, every second. It's been a few days since I've had time to come talk, so there is no way I can catch up with everyone one, but I did read all the posts. I'm so glad the site stays so active. Welcome Toonses. I look forward to getting to know you. Lynn, so good to see you back posting. Hopefully that means you are feeling much better. Still getting lots of tomatoes out of the garden. Going regurally to the vegetable stand. Corn is so awsome this year. I have dinner on now. Meatloaf and a casserole of vegetables. Zucchini, summer squash, green pepper, onion, a little garlic, and a can of rotel tomatoes. I have to work at Curves tonight so wanted to make sure dinner was done before I go. My worst problem is getting too hungry and trying to find something to eat. I always make the wrong choices then. Plan, plan...... Have I told you ladies lately that I value your friendship? Because that is what you all feel like, friends. Freda |
Hey everyone, I'm still here! Tonight we're having a farewell party for Damian (our #1 Grandson) and all his friends at DD's house. He's leaving for college tomorrow. :stress: I've been busy making lots of food to bring over, that took most of the day. Our cukes are finally done, DH picked the last of them and plowed up the ground. My bone builders class have been enjoying them, a great way of getting rid of them. I'm starting to get tired of all this freezing of tomatoes, apples and zucchini. I'm looking forward to the day when we move into a condo and leave the country behind. I think next year I'm going to take the credit card away from DH when he orders seeds for the garden. He always puts in so much and we end up giving so much away. We have two freezers, one is just for the garden produce so you know I'm not exaggerating when I tell you we have toooooooo much planted. I'm going to play a game of spider solitare now and chill out.
P.S. I haven't been watching my food, I just don't feel like it. :dizzy: |
Karen (MO) sent me this funny joke.
Three Ladies in a Sauna THREE WOMEN, TWO YOUNGER, AND ONE SENIOR CITIZEN, WERE SITTING NAKED IN A SAUNA. SUDDENLY THERE WAS A BEEPING SOUND. THE YOUNG WOMAN PRESSED HER FOREARM AND THE BEEP STOPPED. THE OTHERS LOOKED AT HER QUESTIONINGLY. 'THAT WAS MY PAGER,' SHE SAID. I HAVE A MICROCHIP UNDER THE SKIN OF MY ARM. A FEW MINUTES LATER, A PHONE RANG. THE SECOND YOUNG WOMAN LIFTED HER PALM TO HER EAR. WHEN SHE FINISHED, SHE EXPLAINED, 'THAT WAS MY MOBILE PHONE. I HAVE A MICROCHIP IN MY HAND.' THE OLDER WOMAN FELT VERY LOW -TECH. NOT TO BE OUT DONE, SHE DECIDED SHE HAD TO DO SOMETHING JUST AS IMPRESSIVE. SHE STEPPED OUT OF THE SAUNA AND WENT TO THE BATHROOM. SHE RETURNED WITH A PIECE OF TOILET PAPER HANGING FROM HER REAR END. THE OTHERS RAISED THEIR EYEBROWS AND STARED AT HER. THE OLDER WOMAN FINALLY SAID.........WELL, WILL YOU LOOK AT THAT....I'M GETTING A FAX!! This is the day that the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it. |
It's cooler today...high 60s I think...but a pretty day. We saw the squirrel...not quite back to his usual exhuberant state but he is acting more normal. Even saw a few small birds flying about. And the big bird that occaisionally comes for the bird bath was here! I love watching her (to me she's a she for some reason)! I just hope she doesn't get ahold of the poison the pesticide people sprayed! I really think the squirrel did ...can't remember whether I mentioned it on this forum..but one day he was exhibiting quite erratic behavior and then he disappeared for a few days and now we are seeing him more but he is more subdued. I think he got sick but so far it hasn't killed him...sure hope he'll be ok. I suspect the bigger animals don't die from it like the little ones. Sure hasn't bothered the mole that keeps digging up our yard! I have a feeling pesticide killed off our little birds but can't prove it. He sprayed the shrubs where they often flit about in and he spread some very fine ash stuff around trees. So they could have picked it up. That makes me sad as we enjoyed them so much. The yard seems very quiet now so that's why I was glad to see some activity this am. But that big bird catches mice (saw her fly off with one once) and we found 3 mice dead on our yard...I'm sure from the pesticide...so hope she doesn't get a hold of one like that and get sick herself! I feel horrible...I committed to a year and I do like some aspects of the spraying but I feel like a murderer! :(
Bobbi - I don't live in the country but sometimes I feel that way about our garden. It seems like so much of it comes at once. It's ok with the onions and garlic as they keep a long time if kept in a cool dry place, but the tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini are often ready at once and we just can't keep up. I refuse to can and freeze anymore, so we end up trying to find people to give it to and most people we know have their own gardens. Someone suggested giving to food banks but some don't want fresh stuff plus it's kind of a hassle. Sometimes I like a garden but sometimes I'd prefer to just buy from a farmers market. There is so much wonderful produce out there. But my dh loves to garden so I'm sure we will continue until he can't. Freda - your dinner sounds SO good!! I made a beef and vegetable dish with a smaller amount of chinese noodles in it. Enough to please my dh but I could avoid most of them. Lynn - be sure you get enough carbs for energy. You are very disciplined and I know you will work your way through this rough patch. Z - I can relate to SO much of what you say in your posts esp about eating!! I think I have had the fear for years that I will regret not eating that candy bar or whatever....like I may not get the opportunity again or something! Like feeling a little hungry will just kill me!! I too am beginning to get past it but I'm not all the way there yet. Does this come from having parents who went through the depression I wonder?:?: All I have done today is go to PT with my dh, stopped for a couple items at grocery store and came home for lunch. Then sat down at the computer. I better get up and get some things done! Hope you all have a great day!! |

Jess, seeing you are in Denver...I realize it's a big city...but could you possibly know a Marilyn Davis? She would be about 68 I think. She had a dd who would be about 47 I think...and her name is Evelyn Mae. Marilyn is an old friend of mine that I lost track of and have been searching for her. Such a common name and I don't even remember her dh's name. And her dd is likely married by now too. I just want to talk to her again so badly!! |
Hello Ladies,
Happy Friday. Worked out this morning with Leslie Sansone 5 mile boosted walk. What a work out My DH and I than worked on the yards and garden. We went shopping together (very rare) and than had a very beautiful dinner. I bbq some orange roughly and zucchini and we had a veggie salad. We also splurged and had a couple of martini's. We sat in our patio and enjoyed the sunset and the beautiful weather (low 80's with a nice breeze). We are now watching a San Francisco Giants game. Tomorrow we pick up our 5-year old granddaughter, Lily. She will be spending the rest of the weekend with us. We will also be going to a baby shower for my niece and will be visiting with my entire family and also seeing my 14-month old granddaughter, Emma. I am look forward to going into grandma mode. I miss my girls and I am looking forward to the beautiful day. I hope you all have a great weekend. :dancer: |
Happy Week-end!
Today Maxine says, "I quit trying to get a tan years ago. It seemed easier to just wait for my age spots to merge." |
Afternoon all....Ice is my friend oh boy is ice my friend. Actually am finally starting to feel better. Pain pills now actually stop the pain and that my dears is a big improvement! the pain seems to be slowly disappating from hip downward. My back hip and thigh feel okay. Then you get to the calf and foot.....
Crawled into my beauty shop for a much needed hair cut. Kinda looked like Phyllis Diller (remember her?) And that will be the extent of doing anything today. Pool has cooled off to 82 degrees and told Dh it was like my icepack. He disagreed but hey 98.6 minus 82 is icy enough. And it doesn't melt. Dash has a new buddy. The neighbor across the street just brought home his 9 yr old lab. Apparently with the divorce they each get custody of her 6 months at a time. They played like puppies just rested more often. I was about to give a long spiel about having to take 2 aspirin to get my hair cut. But my momma said if you can't say anything nice keep your mouth shut. sighhhhhhhh well, i got a good cut anyway. Solved my noncooking problem. Bought a ham and been hacking of meals. Even a bowl of ham salad, tossed salad wih ham and tonight a omlet. Dh was been worried because his am blood sugars have been going up. I read an article that said it is part of the progression of diabetes and that what seems to be happening is that now the liver feels the fast from supper to bkft and makes gulcose to cover those hours. They recommended a late night snack of less than 20 gms of carbs. So we thought how about a late night small glass of Red wine.....supposed to be extra good for you.....wrong...next am his bs was the highest ever. So then we tried small bowl of sf pudding with 1/2 banana and next am his bs was perfect....actually best it's been in years. Will keep it up for a week and see. Like doing lab experiment with his body. Dash is begging for a swim...hugs karen3 |
Good Morning, All!
Mary, I found a couple of possibilities for your search for your friend, but I can't list them on the post. If you go to www.zabasearch.com, type in her name and Colorado, you should find two good possibilities. One has a birthday of 1940, the other 1942; both live in Arvada (a suburb of Denver), and both have phone numbers listed. How fun if this works!! KarenFLO, glad you're feeling better! The ham sounds really yummy, and I need to tell my diabetic friend about the pudding and banana. Her a.m. blood sugars are always high! Do you use LF pudding or regular pudding? Hope you all have a lovely weekend! Miss PT/Zoe, staycation about over? Ready for re-entry? I'm glad you had a good one...... Everyone, be safe! |
Hi everyone..gee whiz its raining again..it was nice the 3 days we had sun..nothing new here,, we are being lazy..karen 3 that diabetic condition is called the dawn affect..ive read about it and experienced it..the snack helps, glad you are feeling better.hope you all are having a fun weekend (((hugs))) rosey
|
Hey guys....Like that "dawn affect." Jess I made the Jello sf pudding with skim milk. About 70 cal per serving. Come on down for tonight's cheesecake pudding and banana......k
|
It's been a nice day here...cooler, a little breeze but also sunshine...I think low 70s probably. I got out and watered the garden and flowers...I brought in two cucumbers, and we have three little green peppers, and one orange tomato. Yea, we should have lots of tomatoes soon!
Had another salesman come to give us an estimate on replacing our patio door. It seemed like a better door than what we have been considering but it is about $600 more money too so we have some thinking to do. Karen so glad you are feeling a little bit better at least! Hopefully the haircut will help too. Toonses your dinner and evening sound lovely! Have fun with your gd! We are not sure whether our gs will be coming afterall as our dd's friend has volunteered to take care of him and take him to school. I don't like him to miss school every year...right at the beginning too...to my kids that was always the most important time for getting to know their teachers and making new friends etc. So I think it is good if he can stay there. But it will also depend on whether they can transfer the flight to another name or time. Saw a beautiful blue bird in our back yard today, but no other birds or squirrels so far. I sure hope they come back except I'd prefer only one or at most two squirrels. ;) |
