  • I will be going to a DaVinci exhibit at the local museum of science and industry.
I am back on my food plan, and including an Indian dinner in today's calories.
I decided to compute the number of cals to burn one pound for each of my favorite activities. That way when the drop, I can say there goes the "walking" pound", etc.
  • Its been a very busy few days here on the farm. I did get to my dr and got meds for the kidney infection, the scales there showed no weight loss, I had been there 4 weeks earlier, I am not discouraged though, cause I really hadn't changed my eating habits, so I am resolved to do that now. Friday we met my sister so I could get some eggs to her, I have several hens, lots of eggs and have found another place to sell them for me, it is at a city market and my sister's partner's sister has a booth there and no eggs. So I now sell 30-45 dozen a week 'wholesale' along with what I can sell here at home. Our dil and gd rode with us and then we went and I got a dress for a wedding next weekend and some walking shorts-its getting too hot to wear my sweats! Saturday after walking we went to a local farmer's mkt and then I did more shopping with my girls, got the little gd a pool and one of those covered sand boxes-we have lots of barn cats. I raked hay all Sat afternoon, and we got 189 big bales done and wrapped. Yesterday and today the guys have been fitting ground, planting soy beans-if you eat anything made with organic soys you may be eating our beans! we grow food grade ones. It was wonderful to see the corn we planted last Wed is up, the ground was warm and moist and it has been hot-one good thing about the heat, it sure has helped the crops. Today I have been taking seed to my son who is planting beans, hubby is working, the girls left to go home about an hour ago and dil took our riding mower home to mow their lawn. It has been threatening to rain all day but so far it has been north and south of us.
That is what I have been up to the last few days, it looks like we have a few more ladies here, thats great, welcome!
Your long weekend sounds wonderful Cottage!!
Chicpanda, I don't think I can burn enough calories doing housework, I will have to check that out for farm work, LOL
Well, gotta get some seed to the field!
    be back soon, Pam
  • Hello ladies,

Chicpanda(Coralee) - a question about the calories burned/housework done ratio - is that for your weight? The reason I asked is because some of those tables are for a 150 pound person, and that would make a difference for those of us trying to lose. I know Weight Watchers now recognizes housework as an exercise worth points. Glad to read that you're back OP. This thread is a good place to be whether a person is doing well, or if we've totally fallen off the wagon. Lots of encouragement and kudos. The museum exhibit is one I'd like to see too! Thanks for adding your bio! We don't care what your orientation is, we just care that you're our friend.

Tammy - I'm glad you got a break, and hope you had a blessed day, too.

Doris - I noticed when I put our flag out that it's getting tattered looking. Time for a new one. Gardening really is such a good work out! Today I got our first regular tomato - an Early Girl. No calories burned in that though, lol. The grape tomatoes started ripening last week.

Linda - your vacation to Cape May sounds just heavenly! We had leftovers today, too. Love that! Glad you finally got to add your bio! Knowing more about each other is so much fun!

Pam - I love farm-fresh eggs, and used to have them myself, but we don't raise chickens anymore. A neighbor does, though, so I often buy from her. Our corn is growing like crazy - you can almost stand there and hear it. Can't wait for it to be ready to eat!

Hello to anyone else reading this.

The kiddos have gone back home, and the house is very quiet. Reruns on TV, so this is the time of year Neal and I usually start playing a lot of Yahtzee and 500 Rummy in the evenings, lol.

I've invited my ex-father-in-law over for supper Wednesday night. He's lonesome since his wife died. Neal gets along with him just fine - they talk fishing, farming and how to solve the world's problems, haha.

My schedule is fairly free tomorrow, and I'm glad of that. It will seem like Monday, though, won't it?

    Toodles for now.
  • Good morning, and happy first day of June! It seems here in eastern Pa, we went from battling winter's brutal temperatures, right into the 90s.

This should be a pretty fast week for me, but I'm going to have to cram a lot of work into it to help whip the farm into shape for the House & Garden Tour at Cindy's on Saturday. I feel a little guilty that I won't be there on Friday to help get the place ready, but I made plans before I found out about the tour. Cindy's OK with it though, as she understands that this is something special for my granddaughter, and I've already missed several of their events.
  • Good Morning! Woke up waaay too early. Sincerely hope I don't fall off backward when I do the treadmill in a few minutes. LOL Already been out putzing in the garden--weeding...some watering. (Toting heavy galvanized cans full of water--good exercise!)

Made up a huge batch of Steel Cut oats...will have some for breakfast (with fresh blueberries I bought at the Farmer's Market on Saturday) and put the rest of the oatmeal in the fridge.

I know this seems antithetical to weight loss, but over the holiday weekend I upped the amount of fat I was consuming and this morning I am down one pound--finally! Despite all the reading I've done on the subject, I still don't fully get how this works! I mean, for goshsakes look at Pam! How the heck does she even put on weight with her daily workload?! I admire you, Pam. (What a wonderful life you lead.)

I did something remarkable for me, I just have to share...desperately needed exercise wear--went to a sporting goods store and found two pair that fit! (Was able to try on and purchase a "normal" size. I am still astounded. Under Armour fitted capris.) Was wearing old, tattered thermal long johns layered with drawstring terry shorts which were threatening to fall down. As a direct result, felt like a urinary tract infection--likely from heat and moisture--was developing. (Addressed this with 100% Cranberry Juice from TJoe's--10g sugar. Really works!) I haven't bought myself clothes in years because I was so frustrated at not being able to find clothes that fit me in the store. I'm folding the waistband of my jeans over to cinch it and keep my pants from constantly falling down. LOL I still weigh a ton, but thanks to doing the treadmill every single day my shape has changed. In a good way! LOL

Keep on keeping on, Ladies. Talk to ya' tomorrow, K?
  • Hi Everyone,

Come join in the 4th of July Challenge - begins today.

    Lynn
  • Good morning- Tuesday that feels like Monday because of the holiday weekend. Had a lovely Memorial Day off, went to see Prince of Persia (while it rained) and then future DIL cooked/grilled chicken kabobs for us and then everyone got into our (little) pool to play except me- I had a little burn from Sunday.

I am kind of coasting along here at the end of my work/school year, but plan to be more attentive to body signals and eating less after the 11th.

  • Hi ladies...I am officially 50 (yesterday) so I thought I would check out this thread. What is the difference between this thread and the "June Golden Girls"? I am curious.

I will probably be a lurker for awhile, if that is okay. Thanks for being here!
  • A belated Happy Birthday to you, Cathydoe, and welcome to our little group here! I really don't know the difference between this thread and the Golden Girls one, so I can't answer your question. Sorry.

A gorgeous day is happening here, and I'll be spending it at the Devon Horse Show. I'm picking up the girls from school at lunchtime, and we'll get there in time to watch Cindy compete in the sidesaddle event. It should be fun.
I spend most of the day yesterday pulling weeds, and I thought I'd be sore this morning, but I'm fine. No aches and pains.
  • OK. I just lost the reply to CottagebytheSea I was composing. Happens to you guys, too? LOL

You are so fortunate to be spending the day at the Devon Horse Show! We brought our children--when they were small--at least three times (was kind of a pricey excursion for us back in the day). But, oh so worthwhile. The area is gorgeous...and the horses! Sigh. Happily, I've a nature preserve not far from my house where we frequently go to hike...has a farm on the premises with horses put out to graze everyday throughout the year. I always stop along the walk and watch them for a bit...I get my "fix" that way! LOL

The lack of sleep yesterday really cost me. Once I got the treadmill in, I more or less spent the whole day icing my knees and napping on and off. I try not to beat myself up when that happens because invariably the next day (like today) I'm raring to go--full of energy. Problem is I have everything to do I didn't get done yesterday, on top of today's tasks!

It's 11 AM, and I haven't gotten my "official" exercise in yet, but I'm soaked with sweat from running up and down stairs doing laundry, etc. Couldn't wait another minute for something to eat, so just downed a small portion of Greek Yogurt with fresh blueberries, ground flax seed, sunflower seed and cinnamon while I sat at the computer.

I've got more than half the inside chores done, but I still have to finish the vacuuming. Then on to the treadmill. Move the wash along. Hang a few things on the line. Shower. Wash my (long) hair. Change into my overalls in anticipation of getting out in the garden. (It's a beautiful day and I've seedlings to transplant. Lawn to mow. Mulch to spread.) More than likely at this point I will be Chris Farley starving and need to stop and eat lunch...which sometimes signals the end of my energy reserves too. I can't imagine how you lucky ladies with grandkids in tow do it all, take care of yourselves and stick to your diet as well?!

Wishing you only the best! 'Til tomorrow, eh?
  • Hi everyone,

Made it through the holiday and didn't gain but I did sprain my ankle so now my running program is on hold for a few weeks. I am still eating well and hope to keep loosing without the sweating. I was supposed to go on vacation and canceled it, no fun hobbling around. Will reschedule when I can walk!
  • ((Roxanna)) Hope your ankle heels quickly!
  • Just a quick flyby to say I am still around. I can't type much because I have evidently sprained my right arm and it hurts from my neck down into my right hand. I need to get to the chiropractor but can't leave Tony for long as his L leg is swollen. I took him to the cardiologist and they are running tests on him and are not moving as fast as I think they should. We won't have any results until he goes back to the cardiologist after all test results are in on the 17th of this month.

I am losing weight. I have finally dropped down a total of 6 lbs since January 1st. Not much of a loss but at least it is going down. I'll be back to write when I can. I will be reading, just not writing for a while.

    Hope everyone is doing well.
  • Hi ladies,

This is a quick fly-by from me just to say hello.

Cathy - there is not much difference in the two groups here. This one started out being a crafting thread, but we changed the title so more people would feel welcome. Both this group and the Golden Girls will offer you friendship, support and encouragement.

Lynn - thank you for including us! That is sweet of you!

Linda - have fun at Cape May! You will be missed!

Everyone else - I'll try and catch up next time.

I've been looking at rental houses in Florida for next year, and the morning is slipping away from me! Too much too do, and not enough time, lol.

    Toodles for now,
  • Normally, I get all I need by lurking--reading through the threads. But right now I need something more--like an ongoing dialogue, an exchange--so I'll be heading out to other points on the site looking for that sort of opportunity. Jane, and all, thanks for including me so graciously in your group these last couple of days!
