Good Morning everyone,

It was my weekend to work, but I got a L/C day Sunday, so I got to go to my grandson's first baseball game of the season. Turned out to be a beautiful sunny day too, and we were not expecting that. Weather man had predicted cooler weather. I got a little addition to my farmers tan. DS is helping coach the team and it was fun to watch. They didn't win, but they played well, considering that this was the first time several of them had ever played baseball. I look forward to watching their progress.

Later in the evening my son's family came over for dinner. Didn't tell me Cahn was bringing 2 of his friends. But I cook enough for an army anyway (heaven forbid someone not get enough to eat) an there was plenty. Left me with way too many leftovers that I shouldn't (can not) eat! Broccoli casserole with cheese and bread crumb topping, for one. Don't know why we take a healthy vegetable and make it in to a heart attck on a stick.

Z, Oh happy days! My son is not working this week and he and DH has chores to do every day!!! he will be gone from early morning untill evening. I will actually be able to have some ME time. I have to go to the hospital for credentialing classes, but just an hour for today and an hour tomorrow. The rest of the time is MINE!!!

Isabella, I know how hard it must have been toleave that little one! We are so fortunate to live close enough to see the kids as often as we do.

Bobbi, Yeah, spring is here. I have some flowers popping their little heads up and the trees are in bloom. Not warm enough to plant yet, but I have started cleaned up in preperation.

Rosey, so glad to hear that you are getting out. How wonderful. I know you lok forward to many more of those days, especially when you get your surgery and it's easier to get out.

Lynn, Happy Birthday To YOU!!! Hope you have a wonderful one.

Donna, No, we're not perfect. We all fall down. The trick is to get back up, and that's what we're all doing!

Karen, Are you feeling back to normal now?

Everyone, make it a good day,

Freda

Well, another week is upon us, and it's back onboard the wagon for this wayward chickadee. I must report one last (horrible) indulgence yesterday afternoon. DH and I went to Home Depot for the materials to turn a small porch (abt. 8' X 12') off the back of our house into additional closet space. He finished the closet expansion in the guest bedroom, and it's awesome, but as I've probably mentioned, I use the guestroom closets for my clothes, and with my son & his fiancee heading back to Massachusetts at the beginning of May, I need to clean that room completely out for them, which leaves me without enough closet space (again). They're planning to be with us for at least a couple of months until they get settled and find a place for themselves. So, since that little porch (which is fully enclosed, with thermopane windows - regular wall halfway up, and then the windows) is hardly ever used for anything much beyond storage, we figured we could close it all in, insulate it, put in some track lighting, hang a long clothes rod down the length of it, and build some shelves and drawers against one wall for me. Thus the Home Depot trip. Then grocery shopping, and THEN a quick trip to WalMart because our market didn't have the regular brand of chicken breasts and pork that we've been buying (free range, humanely raised, grain fed, no antibiotics or hormones, etc., etc.) and, surprisingly, WalMart does carry them. So we ran around from 9 in the AM until 2 in the afternoon and neither of us had eaten anything. So what did we do? We stopped at "Gibby's" ice cream, which is kind of a glorified farm stand kind of place where they sell home made ice cream (to die for) and other dairy products - milk, cheeses, sour creams and such. So anyway, we were both ravenous, and the people in front of us got these humongous banana splits, and well, doncha know, WE ended up getting a banana split to share with chocolate, strawberry cheesecake, and pistachio ice cream. Decadent? Oh, you betcha! :o Sure was yummy, though, and we didn't have any supper afterwards, so it was all that we had all day - I'm figuring about 1200 calories apiece. So NOW, I am back counting every calorie and planning to have a really GOOD eating week. (I hope).
Three more weeks, and we head down to my sister's house in NC and meet up with son & his fiancee. I can't wait. I really, really NEED some time away from the office.
Isabella, I'm glad you had such fun with that grandbaby of yours. What a delightful age they are all at! We had the twins all day Saturday because my son-in-law had to attend a training thing at school and my daughter had to take their daughter to a birthday party that one of her friends had at Cocoa Key - an indoor water park. We had such fun - took the boys out in their stroller for about an hour and a half, also let them toddle around on the grass and roll a big ball around. They are always laughing...it's just so amazing, isn't it?
Happy Birthday Lynn...hmmmm....I'd better check the birthday list again. I though yours was on the same day as mine for some reason. Well, hope yours was/is going to be happy! Just relax and do things one at a time...that's how they get done, after all, and getting all frazzled just makes matters worse. Remember that this trip is a vacation, not an assignment, and all should be well, eh? The beauty of traveling on your own as opposed to with a tour group is that you can be flexible enough to change direction if the spirit moves you to do so, right?
Some good bits from Dr. Weil, Bobbi...I think the only thing we DON'T do is eat all the mushrooms. I have them occasionally, but DH is allergic to them, so I don't do much cooking with them at all.
Yes, PT, nice singing, indeed. Me? I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, but when the occasion calls for it, I belt it out anyway, and if my screetching offends anyone's ear drums, so be it. Singing is good for the soul, and besides, it helps unblock any blockages in the canals...helps you hear better. (Also helps block food cravings, although if I yelled every time I felt like eating junk, they'd diagnose me with Tourette's Syndrome for sure!)
Well, Happy Monday to everybody else, and let's make it a really good week, right? (Karen...please report back from your woman-cave at your earliest convenience!)

OMIGAWD, Freda, we were posting at the same time! And you're getting some ALONE time! Now you KNOW I had to say something about that! Oh, you GO, girl!!!! Oh, I'm so happy for you! I actually had a few hours to myself Saturday morning because DH had to attend a training session at Old Sturbridge Village. I just barely got my eyebrows tweezed, and he was back. Good grief!
ENJOY!

Good Morning, All...
Glad you liked the birthday song. It's a tradition in my family for me to call and sing to the (hapless?) birthday person; in fact, my brother called to ask why I hadn't yet called him, last birthday! When I was working at the S.O., I made all the guys gather 'round and sing with me, so the lucky person got a big whammy of a song!

Starting to get warm here. My nephew will come tomorrow and clean up the yard... a wee bit of fertilizer and I'll be good to go. I planted pansies in my pretty container. This is a perfect time of year. Watch out, though! I'll be whining BIG TIME in about a month about the heat, which I CANNOT STAND!

Everyone, have a lovely day. PT, I think you're wonderful!

Everyone be safe!

Well, I'm back at it again. Eating well, that is. I feel so virtuous without the fat and sugar coursing through my veins today. Got in my walk before lunch and had to battle high headwinds going one way and tailwinds the other way. The headwinds really slowed me down but it probably gave me a little bit of a workout pushing through the wind. I was going to work out in the yard for a while this afternoon but I have to be careful on which side of the house I'm working because I'm afraid the wind will just blow all the raked debris all over the place.

My youngest DS and DIL are making an offer on a house today. We're all quite nervous/excited as it's the first house for them. It's a little townhouse but it's the end house in the row so it's only attached on one side. It's not a new house but it was totally renovated last year and looks very nice. It has a nice back yard, too. DH is going to go over it with a fine tooth comb before anything is signed. Our oldest son hired a professional inspector when he bought his first house and he missed so many things that DH would have seen right away. The house was renovated to code so that's a good sign. I hope they get this house or another one soon as they are living in a little dingy, damp, basement apartment that has a good rent but you have to get into the sunshine sooner or later. Unfortunately, the town they are living in has the highest housing prices in the province. This townhouse has 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom upstairs and kitchen, dining and living room on the main floor. There is a small finished room in the basement and an unfinished laundry room in the remaining unfinished basement. If he buys the house he's hoping to put a half bathroom in the basement. It's a nice starter house and may serve them well for several years.

Gone to clean up the kitchen and then venture into the wind. Catch you all again tomorrow.

So glad I checked in. Thank you for all the Happy Birthday wishes.

I'm just about done with my "to-do" list for trip & I finished most of the grading of papers. Just have a few more details to finish up and packing to do.

I'm actually starting to get excited.

I got a notice from my New England genealogy society that they are having a trip to Dublin, Ireland at the end of May to search for Irish ancestors -- hmmm - very tempting. You know how I love to travel.

Good Morning!
I'm with you Isabella....it feels soooooooo good to get back on track, rid my body of all the sugar and fat. (I feel so much better) Rachael Ray had a program on about people addicted to sugar. Anyone catch it? The more you eat, the more addicted you are to it.
Hi Lynn..... What did you do for your birthday?
Freda...My 2nd grandson plays baseball too, I love going to the games. He's into golf and hockey too, I hate going to hockey games, soooooo cold. Did you take your camera with to get pictures? Post them!

Zoe...I didn't know that about Wal*Mart, does the chicken from fresh or is it frozen breast. I don't think I've ever looked that close to the label, are they from America or China? I'll have to check that out.

Jess...I've never lived in a climate where it gets really hot. I'm cold most months out of the year and when summer comes I beam in the sun. That might explain all the sun damage I have on my face and arms. I had many spots zapped off myself last year and was told to wear sunscreen from now on.

I have to get ready and go into town, get my new drivers lic/picture. I always look like a convict on those pictures. Below is 4 things you can do to live to 100. I read them to DH and he flunked 2-3-4.
1. He's very active, passed with flying colors.
2. His glass is always half empty.
3. He likes nobody rippling his waters, doesn't go visiting on Sunday afternoons like I do, never visits his mother. (He doesn't like her)
4. He goes to Church with me 1 Sunday out of 5 or 6. He's a germaphobic and hates shaking hands with everyone.
But I love his anyway!

If living a long life is important to you, you may want to adopt some of the habits that supercentenarians have in common. Supercentenarians - people who live to be 110 or older - share four lifestyle characteristics that may help explain their longevity. Throughout their lives, they have remained:

  1. Physically active. Even as you get older, daily physical activity should be a priority. Modify your routine to incorporate small steps, such as daily walks, using the stairs instead of the elevator, or taking up hobbies that involve exercise, such as gardening, playing tennis or hiking.
  2. Positive. Maintaining an optimistic outlook is important to managing stress and preventing related health issues such as heart disease. You can easily train yourself to start looking at the glass as half full. Begin with some simple self-reflection and meditation, and use humor for coping with negative thoughts.
  3. Social. A network of family and close friends is vital to optimum health. You can enjoy the benefits of a well developed social life by spending time with people who make you happy, joining community groups or clubs, volunteering, and participating in support groups.
  4. Spiritual. Regardless of your religious affiliation (if any), feeling a connection with nature, a higher being or purpose cultivates spirituality, and is an important part of graceful aging.

Good Morning, All...
I had to laugh at you, Bobbi:

I always tell people mine was taken "after the stroke" and they always say "oh, it's not so bad, then"!

Windy here. Nothing going on. I'm hanging tough, neither up nor down. It's okay. PT, my lovely twin, how are things? Lynn, getting excited? I'm sure you'll ready to roll... Everyone, be safe!

retiredone 04-13-2010 12:12 PM

I don't know who's funnier today, Bobbi or Donna. We can check out the license picture on the computer screen before they seal it for posterity on the license. If it doesn't look good they'll even ask if you want another one taken. Maybe, that only happens in smaller centres. But most license pics are not flattering--must be the photographers. :D

Bobbi, sounds like we married the same man! And I'm sure I'm addicted to sugar.

I did get some gardening done yesterday. Pruned the two rose bushes on the sides of the driveway and cleared the winter debris off the rhubarb plants. Today, I'm going to work on the front of the house for a while. Last night I burned all the branch clippings and had myself a little bon fire in the back yard. I smelled like a smoked herring by the time everything burned down and had to wash everything I was wearing including my skin, hahaha.

Zoe, I was thinking the same about our GS. He's always laughing and everything is amazing. Just playing peek-a-boo is such a joy for him (and me, too).

DS just phoned and right now the people who are selling the house they want to buy accepted their offer. Now they have to have a home inspection and find out a few other things and if all is well they'll take possession on May 30. That was really fast. I hope the inspection goes well.

Well, I'm gone to dig around in the yard again. Catch you all tomorrow.

Okay, okay, okay, okay. So I had to stop by and show off our supper tonight. Why I ever go off on those "gotta have junk" tangents is beyond me. Ever since you told us about the Greek pizza, PT, I've been fooling around with them, and here's today's masterpiece! (See attached). Have I mentioned how amazing these things taste? I use the string cheese, fat-free feta cheese, diced tomatoes with balsamic seasoning, spinach, red onion, black olives and artichoke hearts. Oh - and chicken cut in cubes and marinated for a bit in Greek dressing. And I make them on Joseph's 60-calorie/high fiber pita bread. And Bobbi, the chicken is fresh, not frozen. It comes in a package of three individually wrapped breasts - the brand is Harvestland. So anyway, just had to brag on these pizzas - PT, you have changed our lives!!!!!! :D (Oh, the pics were taken before I baked them).
Good going on the salads, Rosey! You are really DOING it! I'm so proud of you!
Okay, enough out of me; I have an early morning coming up. Have a good night, all!

Those greek pizzas look yummy! I have been down in my "woman cave" a few times but still not regular enough! We will be leaving next weekend for Colorado and I'm trying to get things organized to take with us. We will pick up the new (2005) 5th wheel tomorrow. So I want to immediately set a bug bomb off in it before we put anything in it. Then I will need to get it packed up with linens, dishes, pots and pans and of course our clothes! And then we can't forget pomeranian toys! I think it will work out real well and give us a place to stay plus have the room in the (toy hauler) part for the things we will be bringing back from Colorado. Gosh, it seems like we were never going to get the house sold and then BOOM it is time to go for the closing! Will be nice to have all that put behind us! Then as soon as we get back home we will have the pool open and I'm looking forward to that. I think I may get a aqua jogging belt and use it while I'm in the pool... they say that works real well. Has anyone ever tried that?

Took my Aunt to the casino today for her birthday. It was a lot of fun and we ended up being there about 5 hours----- We played the penny machines and I lost $2......now where else can you go and have fun for 5 hours for a costs of $2? Of course at one point I was up $15 but we don't talk about that!

Guess I'd better get going and finish up around here. We have an appointment at 10 in the morning to get the 5th wheel. Kind of excited about having one again.

Have a great night everyone.

Hello ladies. I woke up to a snow covered world this morning but it's all gone now and the sun is shining on and off from behind the clouds. I got out for my walk but got caught in a snow squall. Felt like the middle of winter for a few minutes. All is spring-like again.

Zoe, those pizzas look amazing. I just finished eating lunch (and quite a substantial one) and I could eat those right now. I hardly ever make pizza crust anymore. I always use a whole wheat pita or tortilla wrap. When the boys lived at home I usually made 2 large pizzas and a large garlic fingers to go with it. And maybe there would be a slice or two left for lunch the next day.

Well, I'm gone to volunteer at the church's clothing depot. Wonder what I'll drag home today? Catch you all later.

Bobbolink 04-14-2010 12:14 PM

Greeting from your 'Fair Weather Friend'. Yeah, that's me....spring and summer are busy seasons for me and I am not quite so gabby. We're dragging out treasures to put on a 4 family rummage sale so I gotta get busy.
Have a fun day!
