Just dropped by to say Hi--it's going to get cold again later today. That's spring in the Sierras. That's good because I'll get a chance to wear a wool jacket I bought on sale.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Jane, I have only read the intro and just started the first chapter of the book, so can't give an opinion yet.
It has been so nice the last few days here. My daughter is out chisel plowing today and I have gotten my walk in and a bunch of errands done. I am going with my dil for her first ultrasound on the grand baby due in Sept later! they do not find out the sex, its so exciting!
I need to get my gd some lunch so I better get off for now, I will check in tomorrow before my walk, that seems to work better.

I'm back...

Pam - regarding the book, it's probably just me. I have been having some trouble concentrating, sleeping, and problems with sadness ever since Jeff died. I bought a book called Overcoming Grief and I think that will help me. How did the ultrasound go? I bet it was so exciting!

Doris - glad you got a bargain on the jacket. Do your sons live close? I've got 2 daughters and a son. The baby daughter and her hubby live next door, and my son is planning to build down the road. (we have family land in the country)

Tammy - hope you're having a blessed evening, too.

Hello to everyone else.

I got the tomatoes planted today, and hope we are done with frost. Also got some paperwork finished, and plan to watch LOST with Neal in a bit. Not very exciting, but there it is.

Toodles for now,

TamTam 04-20-2010 09:25 PM

Hello all, well American Idol is over and the sweet tooth is nagging so I decided to come and post here instead!!! So far today good with eating in proper portion size, one of my elderly neighbors who LOVES to bake tarts for us since my hubby cuts her grass for free and does little things for her, gave us chicken salad that was left over from her granddaughter's wedding, so we had it for lunch and supper with wheat crackers and tomatoes, did not over due and it was very good. I find night time to be the hardest to resist the snacking, but baby steps!!!

Pam How exciting to be there for the ultrasound. Well, boy or girl, or we don't know yet? What a blessing! My son and his wife are trying to get pregnant, but she has a lot of female problems, so I told them to not try so hard and if it is meant to be then it will happen.

Jane Glad you'er back!

Ok, time to put the clothes in the dryer, have a blessed evening all. Tammy

Good Morning:

Jane; One son lives about 50 miles away (that's close for out here) and the other one is in Vegas, but he's hoping to move to LA in the fall. He just got a degree in film so he's hoping to find work there. But I don't think it's going to be easy. Luckily he doesn't mind being a food server. The economic situation is dismal around here but the restaraunts are still packed:?: It must be nice to have two of your kids close.

Just another work day ahead--have a great day everyone!

Carolis60 04-21-2010 12:17 PM

Good Morning,
Not much happening here. Every day is about the same when both of us are retired. We have quiet mornings, but I try to have my shower and face on by 8am, otherwise the day slips away.

Dh works on the computer....or plays...and I paint, so we have quiet days also.

Going to the Y for our exercise. Missed Mon and Tue cause I felt like I had a cold and just wasn't up to it. Looking forward to it today so I must be getting better.

Suppose to rain on and off today and tomorrow, so cloudy and dreary outside. It was cold this morning. Looking forward to warmer weather so we can go golfing, and camping.

Jane--glad you're back!

So nice to read all the post. Everyone seems to be doing well. I'm still plugging along and trying to lose to get back to my little bee. Darn these pounds!!

Everyone have a wonderful day!!
Carol

first, hello to the new voices. I am enjoying getting to know y'all.
The kid and I went shopping at Sam's this morning. We bought enough for 4 weeks, (with luck). both of us are watching our food choices now, so we were able to say -- when tempted.. that's full of fat or full of sugar!. This worked fairly well. the big plus of a big box grocery store is that it takes us quite a while to walk around it. I counted that as today's exercise. Two hours walking in air conditioning. Heaven. Soon I am going to have to either exercise in the morning like at 6:00 AM or do it in the dark. or.. bite the bullet and start swimming.

Jane - I used to do quite a bit of grief counseling. I am glad that you recognize that it will take a while to heal. Reading the books helps, as does sharing feelings with good friends.
Doris - I know what you mean about distances being measured differently in the west. a 50 mile difference in New England could mean your child lived 2 states away.
Carol - I can relate to your saying the days are the same after retiring. Some times I have to check the tv schedule to figure out what the day is ... if Bones is on it must be Thursday... no senior moments in FL, nope none.
Pam -chisel plowing???? I am learning so much from you!
have a great evening folks.
Coralee

TamTam 04-21-2010 08:53 PM

Coralee-being from south Louisiana I know what you mean about walking early when it's hot, in the summer we are out the door between 4:45 and 5 am and it's HOT, now, it's nice so we take advantage and enjoy it while we can.

Had a great day at work, busy all day, my feet really hurt right now so I will be going put them up in a little while.

Have a blessed evening all. Tammy

Happy Earth Day.

cottagebythesea 04-22-2010 10:20 AM

Good morning! It's turning out to be a beautiful day, now that the thick fog has finally burned off. I babysat until late last night and had to drive home in it, and it was pretty eerie.
I don't have to go in until after noon today and am enjoying my morning off. I just had a good walk around the yard and am delighted to discover my beets and onions popping up. It's such fun to check the garden every few days and see what's happening. The lettuce and Swiss chard are ready to pick, and rhubarb should be ready shortly. This is the first time we've ever tried to grow brussels sprouts and cauliflower, but they seem to be flourishing and we're keeping our fingers crossed. In another week or so, it will be warm enough to plant my flower gardens and get the rest of the veggie garden planted. :)

Jane, thanks for the reminder - Happy Earth Day!

MaezieZ 04-22-2010 11:33 AM

Good Morning;

Woke up to slushy snow today. I always have to leave for work early because there is this long hill where the traffic slows down to 5mph when it snows.

I have the case of the poor me's threatening to sabotage my healthy choices. This seems to be what happens to me in the past few years so I have to charge through it or vacation time will be here and then I'll be scrambling to find something to wear.

I have to plan my time better and do my food shopping on Sunday so I can go directly home after work and have enough time to exercise.

And I have to stop feeding the wild birds because the peacocks are sitting on DH's car and pooping and then I have to hear about it. They should be able find food now and I'll start feeding again in Fall. I want to discourage them from hanging out in my garden anyway.

Oh well, all things considered, these are very minor problems..Thanks for letting me vent!!!!! I should be grateful for all the good in my life.

Have a wonderful day!

Doris

chicpanda 04-22-2010 02:09 PM

Doris - I understand roast peacock is really delicious <wink, wink>.

Today I finished grocery shopping. I should be set for the month. Getting one check a month is the pits. The first sweet corn of the season is available. I know it is a starch, but couldn't resist buying a few ears.

I got really really frustrated with my insurance agent, and finally just canceled the auto policy. The were charging me over $100 to include my 38 year old daughter on the policy because she is a college student. Fact is she does not drive. Hasn't for at least 15 years. So I tried to drop her 3 weeks ago and the agent dragged her feet. Well dang.. didn't eat over it just took action. The Geico gecko and I are friends now.
To bad pissy fits don't count as exercise.
Coralee

TamTam 04-22-2010 04:24 PM

Doris Still snowing? We had a long cold winter here in the south, but thankfully no snow, I am so ready for warm weather.

Coralee well good for you for taking action and not eating over the stress with the insurance agent.

Jane 04-22-2010 07:55 PM

Hi ladies,

Tammy - my younger DD Katie and her DH are trying for a baby, too. As you say, it will happen if it's meant to. I hope your feet got rested.

Doris - wow, to be young and following a dream to LA! Your son will have an adventure. Oh my gosh, that is so funny about the peacocks! Try real hard to stay OP - when you get the urge to eat, come here and vent anytime!

Carol - I don't put on my face unless I'm going somewhere. That's probably not a good thing to do, but there ya go. Hardly anyone comes out this far to visit without calling first, lol. It will warm up before you know it, and you can go golfing and camping.

Coralee - yep, it sure does help to have someone watching the food choices with you. Neal isn't "on a diet" but has lost 15 pounds since I got back OP Feb. 1st. No junk in the house is why! I wish I could lose as easily as he does. I think a pissy fit burns about as many calories as jumping to conclusion, which I do all the time, lol.

Linda - I don't know a thing about Swiss chard. Enlighten me, ok? Is it a lettuce?

Trish - how are you doing?

I didn't get as much done today as I wanted, but took it a little easier since I used every muscle in my body yesterday. (seemed that way, anyhow) Tomorrow I'm going to pick up DGS Jackson, and he'll spend the day with us. We're going for groceries first, then home to play/work outdoors. He's a good worker, and will help me spread more mulch if it doesn't rain.

Hugs,

cottagebythesea 04-23-2010 06:53 AM

TGIF, and it's the first day of my weekend! I have the laundry going right now, and will do my thing with Wii while it's finishing up, then I'm going to take back Mom's cake plate and stay for a little visit. The rest of my day is free, and if Jake gets home early enough, we may drive out to the Amish farmer's market to walk around this afternoon.

Jane, Swiss chard is a part of the green's family. It's similar to spinach, but milder tasting and very yummy. I like to sauté it in a little olive oil with garlic, onion and red pepper flakes, then add white beans to it. It's a cool weather crop and very easy to grow. Have fun with Jackson! My little grandson loves to "help", too, and will imitate anything Jake and I do. I hope your muscles aren't protesting too much today!

Doris, that's a cute story about the peacocks on your DH's car! I hope the roads weren't too slippery with the snow, and that you have lots of sunshine today!

Coralee, I hope Geico is friendlier than your other insurance was!

 Trish, Carol, and everyone else! Enjoy your weekend, and I hope it's warm and sunny where you are!

MaezieZ 04-23-2010 09:56 AM

Happy Friday Everyone!

Coralee: I have a feeling those particular peacocks would be very tough; we also have some canadian geese in the neighbor's pond that my husband would love to cook up. Insurance companies and cable companies can really irritate you.

Cajun: No snow on the valley floor today--today it's fog. Fortunately the sun is out and it will burn off before I have to leave for work.

Jane: I love when I use my muscles and I feel a little sore--as long as I can get out of bed. Hope you get to spread your mulch, how nice to have a helper.

Cottage: Enjoy your weekend. Our farmer's market doesn't start until June. Most of the vendors come from CA's central valley since our growing season is so short.

Well I'm off to start my day!

Doris

Hello all! Just wanted to wish you all a blessed weekend. Hubby and I are working tomorrow and will be going to Mass after work and going eat out after at this wonderful little seafood resturant, we have not been in awhile, we usually share a meal and get cups of gumbo. Have a blessed one. Tammy

Pamb 04-24-2010 08:29 AM

Good morning, just got back from my walk in town, six days! we won't go tomorrow, but will be back at in on Mon. the rain has held off so far today.
my computer was down for a few days so I am trying to catch up a bit.
the ultra sound went well, the kids don't find out the sex of their babies, this is their 2nd. my daughter never found out when she had hers either, we have two grand daughters so far. We went to a party for one of hubby's employees last night and I know I ate too many tortillas with my pasta and chicken, I tried to put lots of onions on everything, there weren't many good choices.

I had put on a few pounds and now am back at 210, the walking gives me incentive to eat better. I amgoing to buy me some new sweats or walking pants when I get below 200.

I spent most of the day Thurs in the tractor. Chisel plowing is driving back and forth in the field, when you finish you go to each and and do what are called the head lands, very bumpy! the plow has tines that break up the soil, but not as deep as a mold board plow-which takes a bit more talent than I have at this point.

we haven't got any seeds in the ground, hubby emptied the gas out of the tiller and put fresh in it so it will hopefully run.

Well, I need to get busy!
have a great weekend all.
Pam
