thanks for the comments about the sunburn. I lost a dear friend to skin cancer a few years back, so I usually am careful. I thought I could get away with a UV index of 7 ...couldn't.
thanks for the tip about exercise. gardened for 35 mins. today. Finally got the dead wood removed from a plumbago bush/hedge. Now I have to encourage the hedge to regrow. tried to cut down a volunteer live oak and ran out of steam. will do more tomorrow.

Janeyou came back yay!
Pambyup 60 is cold. too cold for me. do you know about freecycle.com? it is a web site that allows people to recycle stuff and not have to transport it anywhere. I have eliminated some stuff and am about to get rid of more. something about spring makes you want to have a fresh start.
carol I live in 'gator country too. Haven't seen any lately and don't hear them mating anymore (they bellow) because of the deafness. really really interesting critters.
hope everyone else is having a good day.

TamTam 04-10-2010 07:52 AM

Jane Glad we are not losing you for good!!
I hope you all have a blessed day! Tammy

It's a sunny but chilly Sunday morning here. DH and I spent most of the day yesterday working in our vegetable garden and front lawn. Our lawn was completely dug up while the water crew was repairing the broken pipe back in February, and now we have to redo the foundation plantings and rebuild the edging wall, and we're also putting down sod for an instant lawn. :) I'm putting in some onion sets and planting radish, carrot and beets today, too. I'm thrilled that a friend's father dug up some established rhubarb plants from his garden for me, and now I have a nice patch of my own.
My son and DIL will be over with the grandkids later today, and I think we're going to fire up the BBQ grill for dinner.

TamTam 04-11-2010 08:32 AM

Good Morning all! Well yesterday was soooo busy, did not get to eat much during the day, but after Confirmation had supper with my prayer partner and over did it, but it was such a joy to meet her. Hope you all have a blessed day.

Pamb 04-12-2010 10:17 AM

good morning, its a sunny day here but a bit chilly. We did our grocery shopping Sat evening and bought lots of healthy stuff, plain almonds and walnuts, oranges, grapes and apples to snack on along with veggies I need to clean and chop up. I am going to make some pot pies-we have a young lady in our church who is due to have a baby soon, she already has twins-almost 3 yrs old-I will take them over to her. We finally bought a new pickup we have been looking for weeks, I am glad to have that done, we will pick it up on Wed.
This is a very busy time for everyone, I am sure, gardening, yard cleanup from winter, etc. I need to get busy out there too!
Hope you all have a great week.
Pam

Jane 04-12-2010 10:47 AM

Good morning, ladies,

Linda - glad Cindy was so happy with the cabinets! I know I would be glad to come home to such a wonderful surprise. Yay for the rhubard plants from your friend's father. We have some that grows wild in our yard, and usually my friend Marquita comes and gets it, since we aren't fond of it. Did you have fun at the bbq yessterday?

Pam - it sure does make a person feel good to get rid of unwanted stuff around the house, and those that buy it at Goodwill will be so happy you did. How nice of you to make pot pies for the momma from your church! Sounds like you are a very giving person. A big YAY for the new pick up. Neal has a big Dodge Ram, and I drive it only if I have to. It's so big, it scares me. Guess you can tell I'm a transplanted city girl, huh? lol.

Coralee - gardening is such good exercise! I don't know about you, but I've been using muscles that I didn't even know I had! Do you put out a vegetable garden?

Tammy - aww, thank you. ((HUG)) Please come back and post more often.

Carol - hope all is well for you.

This weekend went by so fast! Madison and I spent most of it outdoors, and we got a lot done in the garden. I was so sorry to see her go home last evening, and she was just as sorry to leave.

Today I'm cleaning house. It's really been suffering since I've spent so much time outside. My floors need mopped and swept, and every surface in the house needs dusted.

Good weight loss news - I'm down 2.2 more pounds, for a total of 16.2 now. I seem to have a pattern going on - a slight loss one week, then a much better one the next. Oh well, whatever it takes, right?

Have a good day. :grouphug:

MaezieZ 04-13-2010 09:06 AM

Good Morning!

The scale didn't move, but I didn't move much yesterday either--I hate Mondays!

But I'm giving up soda for now and I already see the difference in my cankles.

I was officially made permanent at my temp job yesterday so now I have no good reason to stress eat right now.

Hope you all have a good day,

DZ

TamTam 04-13-2010 09:28 AM

PamVery nice of you to bless the lady at your church with pot pies, I know she will appreciate them!

Cottage by the SeaI see a lot of recipes for rhubard, it that good? It must not grow well in the south, because we have never seen it and it is not in our grocery stores.

We are "off" today, which means dishes, laundry and paperwork! I hope you all have a blessed day

chicpanda 04-13-2010 12:01 PM

Hey y'all
DZ - what are "cankles" ??? same as puffy ankles?

I was planning to have a vegetable garden until I budgeted it. I think I figured wrong, however.... the cost of water, fertilizer, insecticide, bedding plants, sterile soil and peat moss is more than the cost of buying lots of fresh veggies from the local farmers market. For those of you who are farmers, did I get it right?

I am growing a herb and spice garden. This year I will include ginger. I am also going with a tropical fruit tree and maybe a macadamia nut tree.

Went to a house party on Sunday. I had a great time. I was able to hear most of the conversations. The hostess was very considerate and offered food that was diet appropriate. There even was 6 week old baby Jordan for us to dote over. Much conversation about grand babies and babies in general ensued.

Haven't been walking much and today is too good a day to pass up. Off I go.

MaezieZ 04-13-2010 03:45 PM

Hi Chicpanda;

You guessed right--my calves run into my ankles with no definition unless I'm very dedicated to a healthy lifestyle. Thank goodness for pants!

I have always had them to some degree even when I was young and skinny. I think my body retains water very easily.

When I figure the cost of the garden; the few vegetables I get that aren't eaten by critters cost a lot of money. But I do it for exercise and therapy as much as anything. We pay a flat rate for water otherwise I wouldn't even attempt it. It's kind of like the fish DH catches, very pricey per pound when you consider the boat and all the equipment.

:trampo:

TamTam 04-13-2010 07:24 PM

Hubby and I have a deal. I cannot weigh myself for 2 weeks as it suggests in the Paul McKenna book and he has to slow down his eating as also stated in the same book, so we will see. Acutally I am bad about weighing in every day and this deal with him may help break that cycle. God Bless. Tammy

Pamb 04-14-2010 09:03 AM

Tammy I agree with not weighing every day, have you ever heard of the Prism program? after the first few weeks you don't weigh till the end of your each 'phase', it has phases you go through each 6 weeks long. hopefully your 'deal' will help you both.

I laugh about your cankles! I figured right away what they were. I think my feet and ankles are my 'slimmest' body part! got those from my mom! I have given up soda too, I had gotten into the habit of grabbing a coke whenever I was in town.

I garden too, and we farm, but as we are organic we don't use any unnatural products, and because we have animals we have lots of fertilizer! I don't think I save any money by doing it, I go to the farmer's mkt here too, I like knowing where my food comes from, I always ask if it doesn't say Michigan grown and then I ask where it came from anyway.

My rhubarb has survived the winter and my chickens! So soon we will be enjoying some. I always freeze some to make a strawberry/rhubarb pie for my mom.

DZ, great news about the job!

Well, I am watching my grand daughter for the last week, later we need to got help her daddy load out some wheat we are selling, he is on his way home from taking a load of organic soybeans~if you use any organic soy products you may be eating or drinking some of our beans! The wheat we are selling conventional as there is no market for it organically right now and the guys want to empty the bins. I still have some hard red wheat that I grind for our use and to sell at the farmer's mkt. Starting Sat I will be walking with some friends, I have to drive to town to do it, but if it makes me walk I will do it. then on the off days I can walk here or on my treadmill.

Well, dishes to do and wheat to load! Have a great Wed.

Pam

Jane 04-14-2010 09:54 AM

Good morning, ladies,

DZ - a big :welcome: to our little group. And a big YAY for the permanent job placement.

Tammy (CatholicCajun) - I like the deal you made with your husband! My hubby Neal tends to wolf down his food, and he is on seconds before I finish my plate. He's tried to slow down, but always goes back to gobbling, lol.

Coralee (chicpanda)- I'm like the others about gardening - it can be expensive, but the veggies taste is soooo good, and I know for sure that no chemicals were used on them. Exercise and fresh air is a bonus! You mentioned being able to hear the conversation at the party. I'm sorry if I missed that you are hearing-chalenged! Is this a recent thing, or from birth? Oh, how I'd like to hold that baby! It's been awhile since I got to nuzzle a tiny one, and I'm ready!

Pam - we rent most of our acres to a neighbor, and he grows wheat, corn, watermelons, and cantaloupes. Neal and I put out a big garden of our own, though, and have many fruit trees. Nothing like home grown produce! Yay for you, walking with friends. I've been driving to town, too, and walking. I haven't asked anyone to join me, yet, but I really should do that for accountability. Too bad you aren't my neighbor, lol.

Today I'm going to clean out my van, and need to do that before the temps get too hot. It's supposed to be 86 degrees, so I'd better get at it!

Have a good day! :)

MaezieZ 04-14-2010 01:39 PM

Jane: Thanks for the welcome !

Pam: I know I shouldn't weigh everyday because it affects the way I feel about myself for the rest of the day. I really feel let down when I'm eating better and exercising. I still haven't realized how tough it is to lose weight when we're older. Walking is my favorite exercise and I have to drive to my hill walking spot--I don't have time to do that during the week.

My job is very sedentary also so I really have to work on ramping up the exercise when I'm at home. I'm also going to stop eating big dinners.

Have a good day everyone!

Doris or DZ

MaezieZ 04-15-2010 10:06 AM

Good Morning--

Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day today. There is no wind predicted for later; that's really unusual for around here. I work at the capital building and so I'm really lucky to have a wonderful place to walk during my breaks. All the bulbs and ornamental trees are in bloom right now so it's a pleasure to walk wind or not.

Hope you are all doing well,

DZ

cottagebythesea 04-15-2010 10:28 AM

Good morning girls, and Welcome, Maezie! It's nice to meet you!

Busy, busy, busy here, but I wanted to say HI to everyone.

Jane 04-15-2010 02:17 PM

Busy here, too, but I wanted to stop in and say hi!

TamTam 04-15-2010 05:52 PM

Hello all! I am at work and the shop is empty for the first time so I thought I would sneak a quick note, it's not like they can fire me(and believe me I have asked and begged, but no one will take me up on it!!!) Well I cannot tell you how hard it is not to get undressed for my morning shower and not head straight to the scale, but I have been good, like breaking an adictive habit. Will try and post more after I get home. God Bless. Tammy

MaezieZ 04-16-2010 09:59 AM

Good Morning,

Today is my furlough day (off with no pay). I really like these days off--it is supposed to be nice so I'm going to hill walk and work in the garden. I'm getting a late start on my potatoes, but hopefully they'll do okay. We have a big lot but my garden area is small. I was very short-sighted and planted trees close to my garden and now I get too much shade :(. I also have a turtle enclosure, 4 flower beds and hardy cactus beds in the same area :dizzy:

I did very well so far this week, but weekends are my downfall. I read somewhere that Americans treat the weekends like holidays so I told myself that I can only treat true holidays (and who overeats on Veteran's day) as holidays. I really hate the months between Halloween and Christmas--food everywhere.

That's when I will need you all the most!

Have a healthy day!

DZ

cottagebythesea 04-16-2010 10:34 AM

Good morning! Yes, I just checked, and it is still morning, lol! It seems like I've been up forever, but I accomplished quite a bit so far. I have Fridays off, but I am going to do Cindy a favor and big up the girls after school and take them to spend the weekend at their grandparent's house since Cindy will be out of town. That will only take a couple of hours this afternoon, and I don't really mind since I didn't have any plans, anyway. :)
They've been calling for rain today, but so far it's sunny and warm. I just walked down to check on the garden and everything is flourishing. I'm so tempted to plant the rest of the garden, but I know as soon as I do that we'll get a hard frost. Our "safe" frost-free date is around mid-May, so I'll just have to be patient and bide my time.

Pamb 04-16-2010 12:37 PM

Its just after noon here. I have a followup appt with my urologist for the kidney stone removal on 2/6 of this year, wish me luck! I have a hereditary stone forming disease and make lots of stones, I had a ct scan on Tuesday, but haven't been able to get it to come up on my computer, so don't know if I have had any more stones form. I love the technology, they put the scans on cd and tell you these are yours to keep, no bringing back the films!
We took a drive almost to Lake MI yesterday to pick up our new pickup, we had been looking for one for weeks, so glad to be done with that.
My nanny daughter is here for the rest of the month, she works for two airline pilots and the dad has taken the rest of the month off, its nice when she is here although sometimes I don't get what I should be getting done and eat way too much when she is here.
Today is the day I weigh myself and I didn't lose this week, oh well, not giving up.
I did get my Amazon order, I needed to order a Bible study book for someone, and ordered a couple of extras, to get free shipping, ha ha, I am sure that is a gimmick they use. I got Geneen Roth's book, Women Food and God and also ordered Fat Chance by Juile Haddon, I heard her on the Intentional Living Radio program-google it if you want to listen to her talk with Randy Carlson and answer questions from listeners. I will pass these on to someone when I am finished reading them.
Well, gotta get ready for that appt.
If I don't make it back in this weekend, have a good one. hubby has it off and although we are going from 80 yesterday to 50 tomorrow there is lots to do on the farm!
Pam

chicpanda 04-16-2010 01:46 PM

Lazy day here. I have 2 unread library looks that are due on Monday. I usually renew them online. This time I can't because I have had them for 6 weeks. Too many other activities got in the way of reading (gulp! never thought I would say that).

Jane asked about my hearing loss. I have early onset deafness. It started when I was 38 years old. I have nerve deafness and tinnitus. I still can hear some sound, but the frequencies for most conversation is no longer there. I wear hearing aides and can still function in public, but it it wears me out. Part of the reason I got a degree in rehab counseling back in '97 was to help me understand what being disabled means. Now I am disabled and I still don't understand (sometimes).

Terrific. Whining about the hearing loss caused me to burn the bean soup. That will teach me.

Pam - I hope it is good news with the urologist. Living with that kind of pain is not easy. Enjoy the reading and the new pickup. I have never driven a truck in my life. City girl much?

DZ - I weigh once a week on a old fashioned scale at my supermarket. Knowing I will weigh in public keeps me a little more honest. I weigh on Thursdays, because it keeps me from binging on the weekend if I have a gain.

cottage - Slept in today so it still feels like morning to me.

have a good one ladies!

TamTam 04-16-2010 08:05 PM

Pam I hope all goes well, my hubby just hat a Ct Scan, he still has stones in both kidneys.

MaezieZ 04-17-2010 11:31 AM

Good Morning:

Had a great day yesterday; walked in the morning (it makes me laugh when I have to drive to find a good place to walk). I found a dirt hill that was a real work out, but there also is a really steep hill that I park near and walk up and down a few times. The people that live there probably think I'm crazy. I cleaned up the garden for a couple of hours and walked in the evening as well. Wish I had the time to do that everyday.

Cottage: Lucky you having Fridays off-unless of course you don't have the weekend off...

Pam: Sorry about your kidney stones--that's got to hurt! Aren't kidney stones more painful than childbirth?

Panda: You are so brave about your hearing loss; reading this makes me realize how we take our eyesight and hearing for granted. I hope your soup wasn't totally ruined.

Have a great day--it's been fun and eye opening getting to know a little about everyone this week. Thanks for the welcome and kind words to this newbie.:)

Jane 04-17-2010 07:07 PM

Hi ladies,

Doris - I really like getting my exercise outdoors, and it sounds like you do, too. This wonderful weather makes it easy!

Linda - I know what you mean about waiting for the last frost before planting everything. I've got some gorgeous tomato plants ready to go in the ground, but I'm holding off a bit longer.

Pam - yay for getting the new truck! I hope you and your daughter are having a good time. I just got Geneen's book, too! We'll have to read it together! I'm glad you aren't disappointed in not showing a loss this week. Scales can be fickle, so don't give up.

Coralee - thank you for sharing about your hearing loss. ((HUG)) Must be hard to deal with at times, but it sounds like you are a real tropper! Like you, I just love to read, too, and try to do it every day, if only a few pages.

Tammy - I'm so sorry about your husband's kidney stones. Can they do something about it?

Today I spent in Terre Haute with my daughters. We had lots of fun, and the best part was just being with them.

Although I don't usually buy "diet" books anymore, I picked up a copy of Geneen Roth's Women Food and God at BooksaMillion. For some reason, I really trust Geneen, and want to read this. Since Pam has it, too, it will be fun to discuss it here.

The scale was down 1.8 more today, for a total of 18 pounds lost. :cp: I did great with the food while I was out of town, and we walked a lot, so that's good.

Toodles for now,

Grace of God 04-17-2010 07:31 PM

Hello dear people, looking at your thread, I feel that people are kind, non-judgemental and above all supportive. That's what I need right now. I have battled weight on and off for 36 years and though I have lost weight in the past, I get discouraged and fed up after a while and fall out. I have a lot of weight to lose and this is scary. I still have about 175lbs to lose at the rate of at least 1lb a week. Weight has been a formidable foe in the past and it has seemed unsurmountable in the past. But as the Nigerian proverb says: the best possible time to grow a tree was twenty years ago, however the next best time to do so is today. My problem in the past has always been a mind set that failed to grasp that if you don't do something today nothing happens. I was always going to do something about losing weight tomorrow or at the next meal or I plan to exercise tomorrow. Aways next time or tomorrow. This is self-deception or denial. I want to do this for myself in order to enjoy the life that God has given me on this earth. I'm a joyful sociable person but lately, I seem to hiding from people I care about, people from church, old classmates, old friends and this makes me sad. It's as if my life is on hold until I lose weight before I can begin to enjoy life and do things. Do you know what I'm trying to say?
Is there anyone who'd like to exercise but is challenged by bad knees ad body pain. If so what do you do to keep losing? has anyone lost half of their weight especially if they've lost over 100lbs. I have lost 14lbs and have a 174 to go. I currently weigh 341lbs. I'm discouraged just by the sheer enormity of the challenge. I'm an impatient person usually and easily bored. I'm sad at how often I've lost and regained the same measely pounds. Help me please. I know with God nothing is impossible.Help please!

cottagebythesea 04-17-2010 07:39 PM

Good evening, Ladies!

I just finished soaking in a lovely lavender scented bubble bath after spending a fun and busy day with 2 of my grandchildren. I love them with all my heart, but I also love it when mommy & daddy come to take them home after having them all day. :)

Jane and Pam, I'm not familiar with Geneen Roth or any of her books, so you'll have to let me know if you're enjoying that particular book. The few diet books I've ever tried to read were somewhat tedious and I couldn't stay focused on them.

Jane, congratulations on another great weight loss for the week! You're going to be able to treat yourself to a whole new wardrobe for the summer! :bravo:

Doris, good for you for getting your walking in, and don't worry about what people are thinking. At least you are exercising while they're just sitting around watching you. BTW, I only work M-Th and really enjoy my 3 day weekends. :)

Pam, enjoy your time with your daughter, and congratulations on the new truck!

Coralee, I'm sorry to hear about your hearing loss. I have trouble hearing certain tones, and especially have trouble understanding people on the phone, so I know how taxing it can be. I'd love to get hearing aids, but our insurance doesn't cover them and they're way to costly, otherwise. I hope your bean soup was salvageable!

Tammy, I hope your husband isn't suffering too badly with his kidney stones. I suffered from them several years ago, and the pain was agonizing. I had arthroscopic surgery to remove them, but I know sometimes ultrasound will help dissolve them.

I'm going to make a nice pot of jasmine green tea and curl up with my book until bedtime. I'm currently reading some light fluff, Lancaster Brides, by Wanda Brunstetter, and I'm enjoying it a lot. The author is a friend of a friend of mine who used to be Amish, and most of her books are about the Amish people. It's a way of life that I admire greatly, although I do appreciate all my modern conveniences.

cottagebythesea 04-17-2010 07:52 PM

:welcome:, Grace of God, and it's nice to meet you! I believe you've come to the right place for plenty of help and encouragement to help you on your weight loss journey. We're all in this together, and it's a huge challenge, no matter how much weight we have to lose. You seem to be well on your way to success with your new way of thinking and determination to succeed, and I believe that with daily prayer and plenty of support here, you can do it! You've already lost 14 lbs, and you only have 41 lbs to go before you are in the 200 lb range! That will happen before you realize it, and you'll be well on your way to your goal! Remember, take it one day at a time, and if you slip, get right back on track. Good luck, and we're always here for you.

NEWYEARNEWME 04-18-2010 06:15 AM

Good Sunday Morning!

Got a lot to do today--getting drop-by visitors so I have to pick up the house before I go work outside. Stopped at my son's house yesterday and helped a little out in the yard. He has a postage stamped sized yard, just right for a single--when I think about all I have to do I am sometimes envious. I also like his house much more than mine but I wouldn't want the house payment.

Cajun: I hope your hubby isn't too uncomfortable--poor guy.

Grace: :welcome3: You have my support and good thoughts. It's tough when you don't feel well enough to exercise. Can you just walk for a very short distance? Even just to the end of your driveway? We all have to start with baby steps. As you continue to lose weight you will build up more stamina.

I've only been here a week but I feel very welcome and supported. Don't stay away from your friends and activities. As great as it is here, you need support from them also.

Cottage: I love to take baths, but I have a hard time sitting down in the bath tub. I guess my legs don't work like they used to.:?:

Hello Aussie: I am a fellow yo-yo dieter. I think my metabolism is totally ruined now. The only thing that works for me is very limited refined carbs and lots of exercise.

Have a wonderful day!

pattygirl63 04-18-2010 11:53 AM

Good Morning Ladies,

A quick one here. I have only been here to pop in and see what is going on and read. Last time I was here didn't look like much was happening and decided to check in today and boy our little thread has grown. I'll have to do some catching up.

1st off :welcome3: to all the Newbies here. I look forward to getting to know you.

Jane I know you are busy and giving up Moderator will free up a lot of time for you. I am glad you decided not to leave the thread. You would have been dearly missed. How is the Geneen Roth reading going? I think from what I read it may be kind of similar to IE. Didn't know if I wanted to read another one. I have IE and The Eden Diet. Please share info. Congrats on your weight loss!!! I'm not doing great in that department, but think I need to get to working my Eden Diet Workbook. I'm so busy with other things that I only did one chapter and I'm in my 1st 30 Day Block. Trying to learn to listen to my body signals of hunger and satisfied.

Linda and Tammy and others:wave:

Got the news about an hour ago that our new little grandson was born at 9:25 am and is doing fine. We new he was going to be born early but they were trying to make 35 weeks and he almost made it to 36 weeks. They were concerned about his lungs, but he is here and breathing fine on his own. Didn't have to have any help at all. We will be planning a trip to So. FL either next weekend or the next.

cottagebythesea 04-18-2010 01:20 PM

 Ladies! Just time for a quick fly-by for now, but

Congratulations! on your new little grandson, Trish! I'm happy that he is fine and all is well!

:welcome: Julie! It will be fun getting to know you!

Carolis60 04-18-2010 05:53 PM

Hello Ladies, :carrot:
Sorry! I've been MIA for a few weeks. Just life! Had a birthday party and had to get the house ready and some extra cooking plans.

Now it's beautiful outside, so I've been playing in the yard a little bit. It has to be really nice to drag me away from my paint brushes.

Been working on my paintings, and trying to see some kind of closure one of these days. I'm getting there. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Jane-- Nice to see you pop in when you can. Yes, I have that Weedin' sign in my yard! To funny! Congrats on the loss! :congrat:

Welcome all the newbies. :welcome2:

I went to water aerobics 4 times last week. I think that's the most I've exercised in one week in my whole life. :swim:

Grace of God-- I have bad knees and hips and water aerobics sure has helped me. I was amazed at the way I can walk after I get out after the class, and for a day or so afterwards. If you have some kind of 4' or deeper pool and some water weights, you might want to give it a try. We bit the bullet and joined the YMCA. They're going to start a special class for ladies and men, who have arthritis. Won't be aerobics, it will be more "range of motion". I plan on taking it plus my other class. I have stiff shoulders too. I need the works!!

Trish-- Congratulations on your new grandson!!

Carol

TamTam 04-18-2010 09:43 PM

Hello Ladies!!!

:carrot:Welcome all Newbies!!!

Trish Congratulations on the new grandbaby!!!

Well so far one week gone by without a weigh in. That is good news since I am trying to break the scale addiciton. I do get to weigh in this Saturday coming. Again under ate Saturday because we were so busy at work did not have time for lunch or a decent break time so just grabbed a bite here and there, but over ate for supper. Such is my life until after Mother's Day.:dizzy:

Thanks for the concern about hubby, right now there is nothing to do about the kidney stones, he just passes small ones evey now and then, and hopefully as long as they are small and he can pass them, his blood pressure is more under control with the new meds, so that is good, one day we will both be at a healthy weight and be rid of the blood pressure meds.

Have a blessed evening. Tammy

Good Monday morning!

Here we are at the beginning of a brand new week, and let's make it a good one. :)

Carol, congratulations on getting to your water aerobics regularly! It can be hard sometimes to make exercising a priority. So many other things can get in the way, so good for you! I hope you are enjoying the nice weather and will be able to enjoy it even more, once your paintings are finished.

Tammy, good for you for managing to stay away from the scale! I finally gave mine to my DH to keep in his workshop for weighing his copper. ;) I would really get fed up and discouraged when I knew I had a good week of eating right and exercising, and the darned scale wouldn't cooperate! Now I just judge how I'm doing by the way my clothes fit. :)

I'm off to the hairdresser's before going to work, so I'd better get going!
Have a great day!

Hello ladies,

A big :welcome2: to Grace and Julie! I can see that the others have already given you a big welcome, too, along with some good advice. Stick around and you will continue to be supported here. I look forward to knowing you both better.

Linda - we have some Amish people around here, too, and I often think they know something we don't. I love to eat in their restaurants, but try to stay out of them, lol. Like you, I am usually glad to have some peace and quiet when the grands go back home, lol. Thank you for the kind words re my weight loss. I have started a "Too Big" rubbermaid box for some jeans and things already, and wow, that makes me feel good. You are such a source of inspiration to me!

Trish - first of all, big Congrats for your new little grandson! What's his name? I bet you just can't wait to hold him. New babies smell so good! About me leaving, well, I just couldn't leave this thread. The members are so sweet, and you've all become like family to me. I really like the others at Golden Girls, too, and after receiving some heartfelt PMs, I decided I want to make time to be here.

Maezie/Doris - which would you rather be called? I'm having some friends in for lunch this week, and will have to do some cleaning that I've let slide while I've been outside having fun. So I know what you mean about spiffying up for company, lol. I've got a sign on my porch that says, "If you came to see me, come on in. If you came to see my house, make an appointment." LOL! Btw, I think I'm confused - how many kids and grandkids do you have?

Carol - good to see you! As I mentioned to Trish, I want to be here. You all are like family. Glad you can see the light at the end of the tunnel and are getting some closure on the projects. YAY for the water workouts!

Tammy - I'm glad to read that your hubby's bp is more under control. Mother's Day will be here before you know it, but I hope your life isn't too frazzled in the meantime.

Pam - hope you had fun with your hubby this weekend.

Coralee - hope you were able to salvage the bean soup! Did you make it to the library over the weekend?

I had a busy weekend, and a busy week ahead of me, lol. We went over to Mary's yesterday for a bit so I could stock up on some hugs and kisses from the grands. Today and tomorrow I need to get the house ship shape for friends coming for lunch one day this week. We haven't settled on a definite date yet, but probably Thursday.

About the Geneen Roth book, I'm not very far into it yet, but I'll let you know what the concept of it as I go. I do know she's going to be on Oprah May 12th, so mark your calendars, if you are interested.

Have a good day! :grouphug:

Good morning ladies. I have gotten my chores done and then met a friend in town to walk, we are meeting again tomorrow. It is funny to have to drive, 4.5 miles, into town to walk, but its safer and having someone to walk with is great! We live on a very main country road and the trucks zoom on by. My appt with the urologist went ok, this is new dr to me, and he is not real chatty but a very good surgeon, I do have a stone in my right kidney (dr says it shouldn't bother me) and a few small ones in the left, I go back in one year for another xray and appt, unless I have problems. Yes, the pain can be worse than having a baby, most of the time I pass 'sand' which is just a bit uncomfortable.
We had a good weekend, I think my hubby got some much needed rest, we are hoping he gets the go ahead to ditch the crutches and boot from his broken leg (3/8) he may be joining me some in the walking as he has put a few lbs on while recovering. My daughter and grand were here SAt and Sun, we had a double wedding shower on Sun., they live in the Detroit area.
Hubby plowed up the new garden area and we are going to till it up today and maybe plant some things this week. still a chance of frost her till the end of May so we won't be planting much.
Trish, congrats on the new grand baby! we are due for our 3rd in Sept.
I weighed this morning, no loss, but today with the start up of walking I am also getting a handle on my eating, going to write it all down and stop eating junk/fast food for the next several weeks. and weigh once a week.
Welcome to the newbies, I am fairly new here, so i am getting to know the ropes!
About Geneen Roth, she has a column in Good Housekeeping magazine each month. And I see has written several books, I am going to check the library today to see if they have any of her older ones.
Well, I have a bunch of eggs to wash and am determined to finish my bedroom clean out!
have a wonderful Monday!
Pam

Good Afternoon--

Really late posting today; had lots of chores to do before I left for work.

Trish: Congrats on the new Grandson; glad everything is ok.

Jane: I'll try to remember to sign as Doris. I have many aliases :). I have 2 grown single sons, no grandchildren yet....

Tammy: Good for you for staying away from the scale--I have to work on that.

Pam: Good luck giving up the junk food. It's only been a week, but I'm 90% junkfood free--I do feel so much better and the scale moved so that's a good incentive.

Lunch time is already just about over--have a good day!

Doris

Cottage Thanks for the encouragement. I am not at a point where I can give it up completely, remember baby steps for me, BUT, I think if I can stay with the every 2 week weigh in then it will be a LOT better than daily.

Have a blessed evening all. Tammy

Just a quick note to say hi and to say that I am finding the new Geneen Roth book hard to get through. Somehow, it's not what I thought it would be, and can't recommend it. Maybe it's just me, though.

Have a good day!
