Smile I'm New...Lost 100 Pounds

Hi Everyone! Nice to meet you!

A little introduction...about 14 years ago, and getting a little scared about being so overweight and out of shape, I began changing my diet and taking a walk daily. I had no idea how much that was going to change my life! Over the following couple of years I lost about 100 pounds, down to my ideal weight, and became very fit, progressing with different workouts as I dropped the weight. I've maintained the loss ever since. I went from a size 22-24 to a size 8.

About the time I'd almost fihished losing all the weight, at the insistence of friend who worked in a health food store, I reluctantly agreed to read a Zone diet book that she was raving about. WOW! Was I surpurised! After reading only a few pages, I'd realized that this was the way I'd been eating for the past 2 years as I'd lost all the weight. Since then it's been no turing back for me. Thanks to the Zone Diet, I've been able maintain my weight loss all these years.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here!

Congratulations on 100 pounds lost! That's quite an accomplishment. And welcome to 3FC!
What's the basic principle of the Zone Diet?

Hi Beth! Thanks for the welcome!

The basic principles of the Zone Diet are twofold, to gain hormonal control (primarily insulin control), and to lower inflammation throughout the body. The direct result of the hormonal control is the loss of excess stored fat, about 1 pound per week. The benefits of the inflammation control are numerous, including disease prevention and anti-aging. It's a sensible and balanced diet composed primarily of lean proteins, fruits and veggies and heart healthy fats (olive oil, nuts, etc.). My whole family has benefitted from eating this way.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. Eating this way for the past 13 years has been an amazing journey for me. It's given me the knowledge to be able to be free from all the dietary restrictions and confines of my past. I can't say enough good things about it!

Just got back from yoga class. I started yoga classes a few mos ago and love it! It's the latest addition to my healthy journey!

Time for lunch now!
