  • Cattails thanks! I'm still getting used to having my ring back on after so long. It's almost like I just got it!

Ok, so my bulletproof coffee is not "legal", I use a couple tbsp heavy whipping cream, sugar substitute and grass fed butter and blend it in my vitamix (any blender will work). It gets all frothy like you are at a fancy cafe! I think the "legal" bulletproof coffee uses no sweetener or cream and adds grass fed butter and medium chain triglyceride (MCT) oil. Also you are supposed to use some kind of special coffee beans that have no mold or something, lol. I use Dunkin Donuts, lol! A lot of folks use coconut oil bc it is like 80% or more MCT and 100% MCT oil is very expensive. I tried it with my unrefined coconut oil and did not like the taste. I have heard that refined coconut oil is not as flavorful. The whole point of the bulletproof coffee is to fill you up with good fats so your body has them to burn (the people who most often drink them are, like me, eating low carb/med protein/high fat). There are vitamins in grass fed butter that are good for you as well.
  • If you can handle the caffeine, it does have some benefits, so great! And welcome to the chat, Seana.

Thanks for your recipe, Shannon. Where do you get your grassfed butter? I've been wanting to get some coconut oil from Costco and start using that for cooking, for coffee too would be good. Special coffee beans I cannot do! LOL

Rennie, I actually really like lifting - makes me feel strong. And the muscle definition is nice. Unfortunately my joints act up regularly but the increased muscle does help take some stress off the joints; it's finding a good balance of enough stress to make a difference to the muscles without aggravating the arthritis that's the tricky thing!

Hope everyone is having a good day - happy July!
  • Seana to the thread

Aw Shannon that made me smile that you feel like you just got it. I was gonna ask about the grass fed butter also.

Cattails I keep saying I'm going to some lifting and then I don't. I know I need to start small and work my way up ... may be one day I'll work with a personal trainer, idk
  • I get my Kerrygold brand grass fed butter at Costco. It's about $7 for 3 large bars (16 tbsp per bar). I only use about half a tbsp per day (a "legal" BPC has 1 tbsp butter and 1 tbsp oil) so it lasts me a long time. I haven't tried increasing my butter, I was told to start with 1 tsp and work up. I've been drinking it almost a month I think. I just like the flavor of how I've been making it and haven't wanted to tamper with it. Some folks even spray some canned whipped cream on top!
  • Quote: I've got two addictions: food and caffeine. I plan on keeping the caffeine addiction.
    Welcome Seana!
  • Thanks Shannon, our membership is expired, I'll have to Google it and see if it's sold else where, hope I can find it. We haven't been to Costco since we've been here. I wonder if BJ's carries it, they are in Brier Creek and offering a 60 day membership right now, that card is expired also

ETA: Whole Foods and Sam's Club and some place called Fresh Club
  • Hi everyone.

I'm not much of a coffee drinker (occasionally I have a "Schale,“ which is about half coffee half milk) but mostly I drink tea, so I can't really weigh in on that one.
I've been so busy with end-of-year stuff for the kids that I haven't been around much- tried to stay faithful to my weigh-ins and my running, though.

Now, I'm trying to come up with ways to use all the swiss chard that's growing on my balcony garden. So far, I just saute it with a bit of garlic in olive oil and toss it with pasta... Yummy! At least the lovely summer produce (waiting impatiently for tomatoes!) makes other, junkier options look less shiny.

Shannon, lol on the Kerrygold; I used to live in Ireland. That's good butter!
    Take care, everyone.
  • I've been using coconut oil to cook for the last month or so. It seems to be a low-carb staple. I have a Sam's membership and I'll have to see if they have that grass-fed butter. I'm a big fan of good butter.

Did pretty well yesterday right up until the end of the day. I have some family in town and we went to dinner. I ate only what I should have eaten, but it came with free dessert. CAKE! How wrong is that?! Since there were 14 of us, including kids, we ended up with 10 pieces of cake. While I didn't eat a whole piece, I had more "tastes" than I should have and I'm feeling it today. Ugh! Headed to the beach this afternoon so will be away from scale.

Shannon, I've read some good things about that BPC. I've not tried it yet as I'm pretty hung up on the coffee I drink in the morning. I don't get hungry much anyway, but I expect the cake from last night to affect that some today so have to be careful with my intake.

cattails I've always loved how lifting makes me feel. I'm going to be redoing my lifting program when I get back from the beach. I need to shake it up some. Lifting is so good for you. I'm also going to add some sprints to my program.

Rennie Good to see you back on plan.
  • Put me in the coffee camp. The caffeine does help with my chronic migraines, so I have a valid medical reason to love the heck out of my coffee which I also drink iced. I've finally gotten to where I drink my coffee with just stevia, poured over ice. Took a while to wean off almond milk as a creamer though.

Shannon I saw the pic of your boy, he is SO adorable, what a sweet looking little guy!
  • Hi Susan good to see you

Thanks Andrew ... cake Which beach are you going to? I need you and Shannon to help me find things to do.

Michelle one of my former employers use to have me go to Starbucks and get him 3-5 shots, I thought oh my but they helped his migraines and I got a caramel Macchioto out of it also

down .4 to 159 even today.
  • Well, finally after all the running around, jumping through hoops & loops, and everything else, I got my test results from the doctor. They aren't good. I have HBP & type 2 diabetes. I'm sooo upset, but I know these things can be fixed/controlled. I just need a kick right in the backside to get me moving.
HELP!!!! I've gotta make a plan. This is NOT where I want to be! I'm too young to feel this old! I know I need to exercise more & eat even better than I have been. But the weather is so warm here & with my hot flashes, it makes it doubly bad. WAIT! That is just an excuse. I have to get up for my walks even if it means the crack of dawn or after sunset. I just have to do it!!!

Okay, on to commenting on others posts:
Shannonsnail: Yes! Thank you for the new thread for summer. I know we all get busy with vacas & such, but I know that I NEED to be held accountable & be an encouragement to others. Thank you.
Andrew: The things you are cooking up sound awesome! When's dinner?? Yes, kicking the caffeine habit is rough. So far I haven't been told it's a "no no" but that might come down the road if I don't get my act together & get my health on track. I don't think I could survive without my mega-cup of coffee!! Just remember tackle one thing at a time otherwise it may overwhelm you. Keep fighting the healthy fight!
love2b215: Snoring hubby! Oh, I hear you! H did that just last night! I was thisclose to being asleep then he comes the chainsaw to my ear. I love him dearly, but sometimes I wonder if he'd sleep better with a pillow smothering him! Nah, I love him too much. But what's weird is even our cat snores! Really a lot of fun with both of them snoring in concert! SMH
Snark: Yes, coffee/caffeine does really help with headaches. With the change happening , I'm getting those more frequently. Coffee has saved me probably twice in the last month or so. I hear it opens the blood vessels to the brain & also adds in the absorbing of aspirin or other pain relievers. My dad swore by it & he wasn't a big coffee drinker...well, that is when you compare to myself or some other family members. But I do think coffee/caffeine can have some benefits.

Anywhos, hope all are doing well.
BE HEALTHY! DON'T GIVE UP! WE CAN DO THIS!!!
  • MrsTryingAgain, sorry about all the bad medical news....please join us on the Diabetes Support thread
    http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/diab...rt-chat-2.html
  • Hi all..so nice to see we are going to support one another during the summer....I"ve been a busy girl . My older son graduated high school and we had a nice day. Didn't see ex at all, in fact he didn't stay after the ceremony to take pictures....so typical.

I have som really exciting news...I will be teaching zumba for a week in the Carribbean next month!! I signed a contract a few days ago....excited, but this means I only have a month to get into instructor shape...Jesus take the wheel! I am at a standstill, not gaining the seven lbs back but not losing either..i need a swoosh to take me the rest of the way.....

Have to go, have to teach my class and then i have a session with the trainer.
  • Made it to the beach just in time for Hurricane Arthur to dump a bunch of rain

Still on plan thus far but I expect that to change a bit as the day goes on

Gail Try not to put too much pressure on yourself. Work at it a little at a time. Doesn't really matter where you start, just get started.

Zumba That is very exciting. I know you will have a great time.

Rennie In-laws have a condo in North Myrtle. We love it.
  • Andrew boo!!! It's raining here too if that makes you feel any better

Zumba I am so jealous!! That will be loads of fun! Is it at a club or on a cruise?
