Monday going okay here. Not feeling all that well for some reason. Weird body aches. I may just rest this evening.

I'll be eating healthy all week. May make my summer veg saute tonight if I feel like it. If not, Egg Beater omelet.

guacamole 08-01-2011 06:07 PM

Feeling bloated and yucky...TOM. Had craving for chocolate and gave in to some chocolate chip cookies that my hubby bought yesterday. Does anyone know if Morningstar veggie products are dietetic meal options (e.g. Grillers veggie burgers, italian sausage links, etc.)?

AnnieDrews 08-01-2011 09:22 PM

Hey, Guac, I don't know much about the products you mentioned. Just be sure and check the sodium content on them. Seems like I checked into them when I started on this lifestyle change and the calorie count wasn't all that much less than the meat products. If you like them and they fit into your plan, go for it!

haggis 08-01-2011 10:07 PM

Hi there - doing ok on day 3 of a low carb diet. I am trying to stay on plan as much as possible. I have done well on this before (lost 50 lbs and kept it off for 3 years until I started to eat carbs again) and know my body generally responds ok. I remember now the strange blend of being stricktly low carb, but having cheese when I needed something, especially in the first few weeks. Anyway, I will be as strict as I can as I think it will work.

BoiseShan 08-02-2011 01:16 PM

Love love LOVE the Morningstar products! Especially the breakfast sausage patties and the corn dogs. Not a vegetarian, but I eat them because they tend to be lower in cals, they're convenient, and they taste great!

BTW--I make a bfast sandwich with the sausage patty, an egg (or substitute) and some cheese on a whole wheat english muffin. Very filling for under 300 cals and loads of protein to keep you going.

AnnieDrews 08-02-2011 05:37 PM

Hey all! Crazy around here. Good food and good exercise so far. I did allow myself a treat: The office bought ice cream sandwiches for everyone as it is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day! Thought I would indulge.

guacamole 08-02-2011 05:45 PM

I think it is important to treat ourselves every now and then. I do like the Morningstar products. I guess moderation is the key, as with anything.

fruitlady 08-02-2011 07:07 PM

Annie- I didn't know it was national ice cream sandwich day, it's actually good we have no more left in the freezer. LOL

Walked 30min & had 1376 calories. Made light & spicy scalloped sweet potatoes tonight, it was so good I had two servings. Put me over my limit, all healthy food at least.

guacamole 08-02-2011 08:03 PM

Yikes! Ran into someone today who was at the overeaters anonymous meeting I went to. Turns out, she is a teacher at my kid's school! She apparently recognized me! I totally did not have a clue who she was. She started asking me if I liked the meeting or had any questions, etc. She was very nice, but for some reason, I felt kind of embarrassed. I mean, I do want to remain anonymous at an overeaters anonymous meeting!

haggis 08-02-2011 09:22 PM

Guac,
I know what you mean about anonymity, - this should be respected. Of the vices I have indulged in over the years, however, being overweight is the hardest to hide. It is also the only one I have left. I guess it is tough to be a closet fat person! Although now that I think about it, isn't that what my denial was for! LOL

patchworkpenguin 08-02-2011 11:52 PM

Aug 2
B= milk vits
L= Brat, cheese slice, salad
S= Choc chips {TOM related, but not a good excuse...}
S= peach
D= homemade veggie soup, bread/butter
S= apple w PB
E= 20min cardio/weights with Leslie

At least I felt better today and didn't sleep all day. I'm snuffly so I think that was allergy related.

Guac, hopefully she was just trying to be friendly and helpful

FL, scallopped sweet potatoes sounds very goodl

Ashley777 08-03-2011 01:05 PM

National ice cream sandwhich day.... really?? lol

I bought the cow brand of those from costco once they are really good, but not if you eat 5 at once.

So this is our august post then, got lost yesterday.

Recovering from my camping weekend, doing well so far.

I have always been a closet eater, I learned very young that people make fun of you if you eat in front of them, I remember being 10 and strawberry picking with my kids group at church and one of the girls made a comment about me eating a few of the strawberries. I felt so embarrassed and ashamed at that age it was just strawberried for goodness sake. Then once when I was 12 and camping with family i went to eat a marshmellow and my mom said 'do you really need that'. Those two comments pretty much set me for life of being extrememly careful what I would eat in front of people. It is okay to eat to much at a restaruant because when you order a meal it is like the size of a meal for 2 and nobody notices if you finish your meal, I dunno why i felt so degraded by those comments it horrified me really. So if I am left home alone I can be tempted to overeat cause no one is there to see it but when i was single for 10 years nobody was ever home and I was so lonely food became my freind. A few of those years were so painful i just went to work came home ate watched tv and went to bed, i had teens at the time so they pretty much had thier own life. I feel like this secret addict I am so sick of it.

One day at a time right. I did learn alot from attending AA meeting with my hubby and just applied the principles to food.

That is my vent for the day.

Carissah 08-03-2011 04:55 PM

Hello and Greetings for NJ,
I am new to this, but not new to dieting. I am a fat chick, and over 40. lol
Well I am now doing something about the fat part. lol Started WW Monday, and its my second day and I am feeling good. I like the new program so far, and I feel its something I can live with for the rest of my life. I currently live in a household of all men. Need I say more? 2 step sons, 17 and 20 and a husband who loves to cook. I come from an Italian family and never knew what the word "portion Size" meant. lol
I used to be skinny. But I will get there. Never did anything like this before, but it would be great to get some female support for us fat and forty something chicks!
Take Care
Carissah

fruitlady 08-03-2011 09:37 PM

Carissah- Welcome!
ashley- i got lost with this thread too!
patch- thanks, the sweet potatoes turned out wonderful!

Went over calories again by 160. Can't seem to stay in my range lately, I think it's all this new food I'm adding to my diet. I lost almost 3 lbs since the bad eating weekend, all clean food is key for me, even if I go over calories. Cooked all night again, even made a hot fudge pudding cake from scratch cause my daughter wanted it. I wasn't even tempted to try it, that's weird for me!

AnnieDrews 08-03-2011 09:39 PM

Hey ladies! Finally sitting down after a busy day. Have a project that is going to take alot of my spare time at work for a while, so not as much computer play-time while there.

Still hot as Hades here. We were at 108 or so in the early afternoon, then a freak storm blew through and it went down to 93 within an hour or so. Now it is back up to 98 at 8:20 p.m. Back up to about 108 tomorrow.

Food has been pretty good today. I snuck a few pieces of bite size candy bars from one of the bosses candy bowls today, but otherwise on plan. I had a thin whole wheat bagel w/ turkey, sm. amt. of olive oil mayo and lettuce with some steamed green beans for supper. Made an awesome drink! I put a dab of orange juice over ice, poured in some cold club soda and a squirt of Fruit Punch MiO. It was delicious! I've been sticking to only one diet soda a day for the most part. Got in my 3 Mile Boot Camp video this morning. Going for 5 in the morning!:carrot:

Got my living room cleaned this evening, some clothes washed and dishwasher unloaded and few dishes put in. Wiped down the kitchen. Going to do my bathrooms tomorrow night. Watching some TV now.

Guac-I'm sorry the woman didn't follow the anonymity rules of OA. I know enough about 12 Step programs to know that is the first thing that all teach.

FruitLady-I'd like to see your recipe for the sweet potatoes. Sounds good!

Haggis-How is the carb counting going?

BoiseShan-Corn dogs and breakfast sausage? I may have to rethink the Morningstar products. The breakfast sandwich sounds really good!

PP-Good job on logging all your food! Hope your allergies have calmed down.

Ashley-I'm sorry you have issues eating in front of others. Since I started eating healthier I'm a little more self conscious myself. People are always commenting. Most of the time it's praising how good my food looks, but sometimes slightly snide remarks. I don't like to feel uncomfortable about what I'm eating. Sometimes, if I AM eating something off-plan, I feel like I need to make a big show of it so people will see I'm "normal". Weird.

Carrisah-Welcome!!! I'm glad you are enjoying WW. I hear the program is pretty good now. I know what you mean about being surrounded by men. I have two teenage boys and a fiance who is a meat-and-potatoes type. They've all been pretty open to the healthier things I've been making for the last year and a half, though, so I'm thankful for that.

Not sure if I am going to weigh in this week or not. TOM seemed to be starting, but not normally. It was 2 weeks late, but just weird this time. I suppose menopause draws even closer. So I may be retaining fluid. I may cautiously step on the scale Friday morning. I hope I'm not horrified.:dizzy:

haggis 08-03-2011 10:05 PM

Wow Annie - sounds like a lot of cleaning for one night. The carb counting is going well. I know that I will need to cut down on some of the low carb foods, but for the first week I am just letting my body adjust. A dear friend today said I must be crazy to start a diet 3 weeks before a major move. However, the move and the diet are both empowering. the many months while the house sat on the market and we kept lowering the price were much more stressful, not knowing which school the children were going to in September, trying to second guess the macro and micro economic trends in my neighborhood, keeping the house perfectly clean at all times (can you tell cleaning does not come naturally to me?!). The uncertanty contained much more stress. Now there is a lot to do, and I have my work cut out, but I can control it (by staying up half the night to pack). I don't think this in itself would normally have been enough to get me to start a diet, but refinding this web site, combined with the opportunity for change, was enough.

Carissah 08-03-2011 10:06 PM

Hey Ann,
Thanks for the warm welcome. Meat and potatoes is a staple at my house. Nothing like a steak on the grill, burgers, chili. ok. im done now.
lol but i know exactly what you mean.
Good luck- Friday Morning.

Ashley- I know what it feels like to be self conscience. I take a book or magazine to read at lunch time. I read and eat my lunch. Pretend others are not even there. Just remember that you a winner because your doing something about reaching your goals. And if no one else gets it, then too bad for them. The only one you have to please is you, and you just need to start to feel good about yourself.
Do something for yourself just because your you and you can.
Reward yourself- and not with food.
Having confidence is all about how you feel about yourself. Get rid of those negative feelings and you have to start changing the way you think.
Tell youself your worth it!.
I am sure it is a lot easier for me to say all this then it has been for you or for you to do these things. If ya ever need to vent, I'd be happy to listen.

Take Care all
Carissah

patchworkpenguin 08-04-2011 12:39 AM

Aug 3
B= 2 c milk, vits
L= Acre's Chicken Gallentine, 1/2 piece bread with smear butter
S= peach
D= homemade baked pork chops, Ger Pot Salad, green beans
S= 2 PB cookies, 3 c milk
E= 10 min cardio. I started a DVD but it was just too stinking hot!

Sis leaves tomorrow so we are going out to eat before we go to the airport.

Carissah, welcome, glad to have you join us.

Ashley, I've never understood why some people need to make nasty comments about other's behavior. Do they have nothing better to think about than picking on others??? Feel sorry for them! And do what makes you happy!

Ashley777 08-04-2011 10:56 AM

Annie - 108 gross. I dont miss the hot summers where i use to live, well I do miss the boat that went with them though. It is odd how people comment on what people are eating. I have my own office and when I am on plan I totally don't care about that but if there is an occasion at the office and there is cake it stresses me out. Hope friday goes well for you.

Carissah- welcome and thanks for the encouragment. I am in a house with two men right now. I dont think I have ever had that till now. I have a daughter as well and a stepdaughter and have lived with them too, but they are grown now. My son pretty much eats nothing but protein, but then binge eats too. He works oil drilling and it is like an insane 12 hour workout so he is very in shape. I get to sit at a desk most of the day so my workout is at lunch.

My hubby just went off a medication and lost like 2 sizes. He is already small to begin with but when he went on the medication 3 years ago or so he gained alot of weight and was a 36 now his 34's are too big. It was all in his tummy mostly, mine is all over my body.... lol. So that is awesome here i work so hard and stay the same and he just goes off some meds and loses it.
Have my turkey spinach open faced sandwhich ready for lunch and some cherries.

guacamole 08-04-2011 04:10 PM

Men do tend to lose weight much quicker than women. Wonder why? Do they retain more water? Do they have more muscle mass, and, as they say, it's easier to lose muscle weight than fat? In either case, water weight is not "true weight" and losing muscle mass isn't the goal, so perhaps a quick weight drop for a man isn't the healthiest thing - although it seems preferable to not being able to lose anything.

I so badly want to weigh myself, yet don't want to weigh myself. I want to see if I am any closer to my 179lb mini-goal. I am right in the middle of TOM, but the bloating is mostly gone by now. I think I will wait until Sunday to weigh-in (my normal weigh-in day). However, I am worried that if I don't eat well on Saturday (which happens often) that I will be disappointed with the results.

Does anyone else have this love/hate thing going on with the scale?

fruitlady 08-04-2011 09:48 PM

guac- I heard men have faster metabolisms, that's why can lose so quickly. not fair!
Annie- you sound like me, I do that cleaning every night, I'm a clean freak. I'll post that recipe when I have more time, you'll love it.
Ashley- Men can just cut back a little on eating for a day or two and lose weight. Not fair at all!

Walked 50min. temp was down to 75 degrees today, but drizzling on & off.
Felt good. I went over calories again, by 300! Made another recipe I found on the back of a Kraft Fat Free mozzarella cheese bag, it was good and i ate 2 servings! Still losing weight, I think the water weight is finally gone. Now I just have to get through the weekend without overeating, and maybe I'll get closer to my goal.

guacamole 08-04-2011 11:29 PM

Fruitlady....getting through the weekend without overeating is my problem too. Why are the weekends so hard? Went to another OA meeting tonight. I think I am getting more comfortable with the format. Got one of the books in the mail today called, "Beyond Our Wildest Dreams." It's about the history of how Overeaters Anonymous began. Hopefully, I will start to read it over the weekend.

patchworkpenguin 08-04-2011 11:48 PM

Aug 4
B= 2 c milk, vits
L= 1/2 slice buttered bread, 1/2 Orchetta Pasta w chicken
D= Salad, 2 slices sausage pizza
S= handful choc chips
S= apple w PB
E= too hot!

I'm having my second eye surgery tomorrow! I'm excited to be able to see better. I didn't realize how bad my vision had gotten again since my cataract surgery until the blurry film was removed!

RealMeSomeday 08-05-2011 07:43 AM

Good morning ladies! Mind if I jump in here? I am trying to get back on the wagon with healthy eating and exercising. And I need some accountability and of course support!
I do great during the day but usually end up bingeing at night. (I know I spelled that wrong!) I will even get candy or something. How stupid is that? On the days I am good I feel so proud of myself!
Do any of you guys use myfitnesspal?
Patchwork - Hope the eye surgery was a success!
Guac - Is OA working for you? seems to be. hhmmm.....
Annie & FruitLade - you guys looks great in your pics! I can't wait til I have the confidence to put a pic on here!

Thanks for letting me jump in!

patchworkpenguin 08-05-2011 04:29 PM

fruitlady 08-05-2011 08:53 PM

Hydra 08-06-2011 11:45 AM

Hey everyone! I have been an infrequent member here and I hope to be around more as time allows :) I have had such wonderful support here over the last two years!! :hug

I am almost at goal, Wow!! I feel great and I am so much healthier than I was a mere two years ago. I am proud of myself and I dare say, I look great too:belly: Does anyone know how I can make pics smaller, so I can upload an updated avatar? I have no clue on how to do that, I have an hp netbook using windows if that helps, thanks in advance on that one, haha.

Keep up the great work everyone and I hope to be at my goal within the next month or so. Have a great weekend!!!!!

patchworkpenguin 08-06-2011 11:51 AM

I'm getting a haircut today. I've been letting the pixie grow out so now my hair is a tad past my shoulders, but its shaggy and unkept looking. I'm sure
Angie can fix me!

I've been walking around without my glasses for part of the morning and didn't realize I didn't have them on! I can't believe all the detail I can see and the bright colors that I thought were much dimmer!

Hydra, welcome back

FL, thanks for posting the recipe!

RealMe, welcome, glad to have you join us!

AnnieDrews 08-06-2011 01:01 PM

Hi gang!

PP-I'm glad the surgeries helped your eyes so much!!

FL-I'm going to try that recipe sometime. Thanks!

Hi Hydra! Nice to see you again. I think if you go to a photo storage site (I use Photobucket), you can resize your pics there. After you download the pic, use the edit function.

I am so disgusted with myself. I have eaten so many off-plan things in the last 24 hours (and not in a healthy way; I usually allow for them and cut in other areas) and I just feel horrible. I've had 2 fried chicken fingers w/ honey mustard yesterday afternoon, 2 scoops of ice cream at Braum's, several light beers last night and chinese food (egg roll, crab rangoon and a shrimp/chicken dish w/ fried rice) since yesterday afternoon. I still have a burger place to go to today. Fiance wants to go back to this local place we found. I guess I can get a grilled chicken sandwich, but know I won't be able to pass up their homemade onion rings. I'll get back on the wagon tomorrow, I guess. Bleh.

In other news.....my foundation work on my home is going to cost about $10,000. I don't know where I'm going to get the money. I'll start calling on that Monday morning. It looks like it's going to be another 20 years before I can get new furniture at this rate.:mad:

RealMeSomeday 08-06-2011 04:25 PM

Happy Saturday Gang!
I had to work an event this morning and was served breakfast and lunch... all freshly made (even the bread for the sandwiches was MADE at the venue today) and I'm fairly proud to say that I ate fruit, had no coffee, lots of water and I removed the bread from my sandwich! I DID partake of the home made chips - such a weakess of mine - but all in all I think i did ok! I am not going to get in any exercise today but I'll hopefully be good at home here!

Penguin - did you have lasik?? I had that a few years ago after having glasses since second grade.

Annie - You poor thing! Your house! :hug: I noticed your ticker - you've done an amazing job on your diet. I sew! Need curtains?? hee hee :)

FL - I'm nervous about sweet potatoes! I have nightmare memories of marshmellows and big scoops of orange goop! I hated that stuff even as a child.

Hope everyone has a good day.

patchworkpenguin 08-06-2011 05:43 PM

Real Me, Thanks for asking! 2 years ago I had cataract surgery {I'm 42} they replaced my cloudly lens with corrective implants but there's a membrane that they can't replace during that surgery. The membrane gets cloudy over time and they use a laser to punch a hole in it, so it doesn't affect my vision anymore. I've worn 'milk bottle' glasses since I was 3 but now can see with just thin +1's. Big change for me. Its funny for me to go to the cataract office. My parents usually drive me {they are early 70'} so everyone assumes I'm there to help THEM and then they find I'M the patient. The average waiting room age drops 30 years when I walk in. Thanikfully this should be my last trip there.

Annie, goodness that's a lot of money! I'm sorr to hear that!

If I get a good shot of my hair I'll post a pic. She cut a bunch of length off to even it out so now its a shaggy bob that just touches my shoulders.

guacamole 08-06-2011 10:07 PM

My eating today was not good at all. Went to a birthday party and....enough said.

I saw a picture of myself taken just a few weeks ago and I look awful! Actually, there were two photos....one was from last September and one was from a few weeks ago. They look identical! I look horribly obese in both - you can't tell that I even lost 1 ounce. My face is fat, my body is huge. WTF? The numbers on the scale aren't lying...I am 29 pounds less....so why doesn't it show?

fruitlady 08-06-2011 10:44 PM

guac- sometimes we have a hard time noticing a weight loss, I was so used to being heavy, that's how i continued to see myself. Even after 30lbs! Measure yourself and keep track, that will be your proof.
RealMe- I never liked sweet potatoes w/ marshmallows in it. I make them sliced thinly, so it won't remind you of orange poop! LOL
Annie- It always seems like a huge expense comes up everytime your planning on buying something you need, happens to me everytime!

Walked 33min. It was raining most of the day and only in the 70's. Makes you feel like staying in bed all day, even though you know you can't. Did good with healthy eating for the 6th day in a row. Yesterday, I was craving junk & didn't eat any, today not wanting it at all. What makes everyday so different about what you want to eat anyway??

lyv33 08-07-2011 10:18 AM

Well, I have finally made it to the 150's. It's only 158, but I have been waiting so long to get to the 150's that I am still very happy with the 8 being on the end.

RealMeSomeday 08-07-2011 01:04 PM

I have to be on my laptop most of today so I am taking periodic walks around the block. Well, I've done 2. But, a week ago I wouldn't have done anything so that's improvement, right?

Penguin - how are the eyes today? hope you're healing fast!

FL - I will try sweet potatoes again before the end of August! I'll make it a goal. :D

Guac - oh dear! stay positive! You've lost all that weight! Perhaps you're being too hard on yourself? hang in there....

lyv - a new decade for you! way to go!! :carrot: :bravo: :congrat:

iaradajnos 08-07-2011 08:46 PM

I found you all. I wasn't paying attention at all and was happily living in July all week. Ah, a super long July.

I am excited to try FL's sweet potato dish. It has all the ingredients I have in my cupboard--plus it has CHEEEEESE! Yum. It's what's on the menu this week.

I've been cooking a lot from scratch with whole recipes lately (all this year it's no bake with veggies, whole grains, and tofu). But lately I'm mixing, cooking and yumming. I'm married to a gentleman from Nepal (we married over there) and we love to cook. It's basically healthier Indian-style with lots of Tibetan influences. My husband and I have ramped up the HEALTHier portions. I've increased lots of vegetarian options with my own twists. It's making everyone happy since I gave up eating Nepali food over 2 yrs ago because it's best served with four cups of cooked rice (yum but overwhelming).

As for Morning Star items, I've been eating Lightlife (cutlets and wings) which are vegetarian "meats". Super delicious. I don't think I've had Morning Star in awhile but they're yummy too.

Weighed in on Saturday (usually I'm on Sundays). I was up .6 pound. I couldn't believe it until later last night my TOM arrived. I hope I get to see a loss next weekend. Argh! What a slow slow road while keeping on almost perfect track for months. Argh (again).

patchworkpenguin 08-07-2011 11:12 PM

I bought a new purse today at Ross! It was about $10 more than I wanted to spend and by some designer I’ve never heard of, but worth it. I has two compartments seperated by a zippered pocket so I can have “purse’ on one side and knitting on the other. Then our truck broke down in from of an auto parts store so I was happy to have knitting with me while Hubby changed the battery. I sat on the floor of Auto Zone and knitted on a baby blanket for 30min while Hubby troubleshot the truck. Then later I knit in Red Robin while we waited for our food and Hubby played with his phone.

RealMe, my eyes are fine. I have drops to take for a week but don't have to go back to the dr.

Ashley777 08-08-2011 01:12 PM

quick check in, lots of new people Welcome to all!

Annie sorry to hear about your foundation and praying all works out for you!

PP very excited for you and your vision.

I had a huge restful weekend slept most of Sunday which is odd for me but hubby has been real sick and I started to get it. I cannot stay home from work for the next two weeks at all due to other staff on vacation and one quit. Back on food plan today. My trip to the US is in less than 6 weeks yay. Just went and changed some more money to US so I dont spend it. We are in such a spending famine - needs only so darn it i am going shopping in Spokane when we get there.

patchworkpenguin 08-08-2011 05:23 PM

http://www.tylerrodan.com/products/m...hite?back=1878 This is my purse only its black. It came with a matching umbrella! How cute is that! I probably buy one purse every few years. This one is huge compared to my old purse but only weighs 1lb more. {yes, I weigh my purses at the groc store!}. But I often carry two bags around one my purse, then the other knitting bag. This one cost around $40.

I'm cleaning house today. Now that I can see everything better the house looks yucky. I'm not the best housekeeper in the first place but now I can see the spiderwebs and dust!

Ashley, hope you feel better!
