Hi I posted on another thread but have not received a reply on joining. So if possible I'd like to join you all. I'm a calorie counter, started my journey on 6/1 and finished a 4th of July challenge down 12.2 pounds. I'm in this prayerfully til the end

~I'd like to get down to 170 not sure if that's possible so I will say I'd like to be 175 to 177 by July 31st.
~I'd love to start jogging but I am just barely able to walk 3 full miles. I have done it a few times, but if left up to me I would stop at 2 1/2 walking

Hey I just joined this forum the end of May, I don't think you have to wait for someone to reply to you about joining any of the groups. I have joined several of the groups & challenges & everybody is so welcoming & very nice. Just start posting & everybody just includes you in everything.

If you want to start running the couch to 5k is a great program, I use the program just for increasing my speed, intervals are a great way to accomplish this. There are a couple of groups on here for that program, it works, won't lie to you it is hard work. I was already running 5+ miles when I found the program but it really is great for non-runners.

Anyway welcome!!!

Hi I'm On A Boat, I have been on since the end of May also and have joined quite a few groups. The one that I attempted to join 2 days ago and needed a reply to join is a Biggest Loser challenge. You need a reply back because they do teams and also because it was for the 30 something and I'm a 40 something. I'm a chatter box so yeah I've joined quite a few forums/threads just by jumping in. Well talk to you later and thanks for the tip of the Couch to 5K and the welcome. Have a wonderful day

Just checked again, I have a partner.

Never mind. I was helping love2b150 but she'd figured it out.

What's your plan of attack, chickies? I've tried almost everything with no success. I really don't struggle with the nicotine cravings too badly, but that whole psychological-something-to-do-hand-to-mouth thing just about kills me and is always what makes me cave.

Rochester I don't have a plan of attack, but any plan would be better than me ignoring it.

I am thinking right now since I don't smoke that much, about a 1/2 a pack a day that I probably could just stop cold turkey. I know I should be able to, but I totally procrastinate on picking a date to stop. So I really haven't accomplished much.

Hi Dee, I just looked at the Couch to 5K site and looked at the schedule. I'm gonna give this a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

And best of luck all of you that are trying to quit smoking. I quit in 2003. Take care.

Rochester, have you considered nicotine gum? I'm told that the prescription drug buproprion (Wellbutrin) also helps quell that "urge to do something" that keeps a lot of people from succeeding. You'd need to ask your doctor for a prescription though.

Good luck!

The gum gives me a wicked headache and does nothing for the cravings. Like Im On A Boat, I'm down to about a half pack a day, so I'm going to try going cold turkey. And I'm just going to try to suffer through the whole psychological withdrawal crap.

@love2b150 - I'm doing C25K and I LOVE it. I'm starting W4 this week. It's a totally doable program no matter what fitness level you start at, and that's fantastic.

Edited to ask: Why is it called "quitting cold turkey"? When are turkeys ever cold, and what does that have to do with giving up a bad habit?

my main goal for july is to increase my physical activity, so far it's been 8 straight days since I started. I'm thinking I'll aim for at least 20 days of working out, swimming, or extra walking.

LOL Rochester, That gum made my heart race when I chewed it. I couldn't do it either. You"ll kick the habit quicker than you think because you already have the mind set to do it. You go Girl

And wish me luck, I tried to get my husband to start this evening but he said not today, so I walked 3 1/2 miles. I will surely let you all know when I give it a go.

Good Day everyone.
I'm a little behind in my posting but I'm staying on track. The holiday weekend was a very restful but I made sure I got my workout and water in so I wouldn't get out of control. I also stayed within my calorie range except on yesterday. Crazy huh?? I was very strict on Sunday and threw caution to the wind yesterday...go figure. Well it's a great day to take care of your body...So let's have some fun.

For each workout

For ever two liter day

Good work all you challengees. Especially the stop-smokers. That must be really tough and especially whilst you're trying to diet too.

I haven't smoked before but i understand rochesters comment just from trying to wean myself off having a piece of chocolate after my dinner at night!! I found some sort of substitution best (in my case a cup of mint tea instead of the choc).

But obviously it's a lot harder when there's that addictive factor in there too. Good luck to you all. You can do it. Think how good you'll feel by end of July...It's great that there's 3 of you doing it for a bit of moral support.

My plan isn't going great. I've had a lower leg strain so decided to stop running for a few days (and have been doing spin classes at the gym instead). Today though i gave it another go and had about 30min run and i seem ok again so all is good, but i still think i need to ramp up the distance slowly if i can! (The temptation is to do too much too soon with these things as i've learnt the hard way many times before!!)

I know so many people who love that C25K program though so good luck with it love2b150, keep us updated on how it's going, and good suggestion Dee.

Also my diet isn't going very well and i haven't dared to get on the scales again for a few days. I feel a bit flabby but on the other hand my clothes seem looser. Hmmmm. Whatever - i need to buckle down and cut out fatty sugary stuff.

Hi Everybody!

Have two goals this month # 1 - lose 7 pounds - just for the record so far nothing! # 2 - quit smoking. This one I am doing today. Not happy, not in the best of moods, but the voices in my head are making me do it. So yeah I am a grouch! But I did not stop by the store & buy a pack, so good thing I am at work all by myself this week so none of my co-workers are in danger of me going postal on them. So for the remainder of this week I can't harm anyone & maybe, just maybe I can be social by the time next week comes.

Have a good day everyone!
