Talking Completely Unexpected NSV... and Others!!

Good morning, everyone! Rise and shine

I never did come back yesterday and post my NSVs.

When I went for my blood test and sat down in the little stool, usually I stuff myself in as much as I can and pray the little arm thingie will go down in front of me. Well this time my butt went right in with all kinds of room to spare on both sides... and the arm went right down with LOTS of space in front of me.

But here is the unexpected one. When the nurse (who had no idea what I've been doing) started to take the blood I mentioned that usually they take it from the right arm as the vein is so buried in the left one it is hard to see. She looked and said no it is fine and took it very easily from the left arm. I asked if losing weight would cause it to be more prominent and she said yes but more than that if someone has been exercising a lot, drinking lots of water, eating less salt, etc., that would do it even more because as we start to "beef up" and build muscles, our body needs more blood to feed the muscle and our veins start to "puff up" to supply the blood! IOW -- there is a VISIBLE sign right there in my arm that I am building muscle and getting healthier! Woo hoo!!!

Then when I phoned the community pool, the guy said on Sat. they open at 7 and have lap swimming for 45 mins... then a water aerobics class. I said great, I could come and swim laps for 45 mins and then take the class. He said yes but you would be too exhausted probably. When I told him I have been doing strenuous water aerobics for 90 minutes, he said I would be able to do it then... and he said "I am impressed."

Then later when I went to our pool a woman came out I've talked to before; she also does some aerobics. She also commented on how much stamina I have.

These things mean so much to me as when I was younger I was always super energetic and the one no one could keep up with... AND very competitive... but since I got sooooooo fat I could barely move and it was really HARD and humiliating for me to be the one who had to drag my butt along and stop to rest all the time. I am really enjoying getting back my reputation but mostly my strength and stamina!! Yay!

And LOL last night I DREAMED I was going swimming and had this gorgeous red swimsuit and it went right on over my boobs and all... and I turned sideways in a mirror and I was REALLY skinny and looked great! now THAT was a dream My best friend in Florida recently said she dreamed I came to see her and was "tuck-your-shirt-in-your-pants skinny." She also sent me a birthday card with a "real" little fancy dress on the front of it for me to wear for my next cruise LOL.

I am kind of new...I never post but I have lurked here for a long time (a little over a year!) I really enjoy reading the post and I learned a lot from the threads especially ideas around how dieting works when we have so far to go.

Melissa- I really what to encourage you to continue walking. Walking is really a great way to lose weight and gain muscles. The weight might come off slow at times but you will have less loose skin. Also there are other things you could play with other than the walking for example are you doing any strength training? I cannot remember if you mentioned it or not but you might work on increasing your intervals. Also how is your water intake? Make sure you are getting enough water. Another suggestion is to try some new foods (like vegetable you have never eaten or a dish that fits you plan but is new to you). I hope you will continue to walk I know you are seeing nice changes in you measurements. oh also there is a women who teaches in Austrlia i think who has reached her goal wieght and she was posting on this thread a few months ago i think her name is Thelma (sorry if i am wrong) she does a good amount of exersize everyday (like 1.5 hours!) on her program. if she is lerking maybe she might have some ideas regarding exersize.

I feel like I should tell you all something about myself before I get to involved with personals and sharing my ideas about your questions. I am currently at about 265 pounds. My highest recorded weight was in 2005 at about 285. I hate to get on the scale and have never really did a diet with no-no foods. I grew up eating lots of whole foods and home made meals low in meat and full of fresh vegetables. In the past I have lost weight by exercising. Reading post here has made me more aware of my emotional eating. In general I eat healthy with very little junk food but when I am stressed I eat and eat and eat. Even reasonably healthy food is a problem when I eat all day long. I do not mean healthy like carrot sticks I am talking about baked chicken, rice, whole wheat bread and so on and so on. When I am stressed I eat about every two hours (not a snack but a full meal). I honestly never noticed it until recently. I am working on being more aware of what I eat planning intentional eating. I noticed I don't eat many vegetables when I am only cooking for my self and as a single woman with no children I am almost always cooking for myself.

I plan to buy a scale on payday and get back out on the trails as summer seams to be cooling off here. I look forward to sharing my journey with you ladies. Good luck on you weekend hope you have an on program day!

Just dropping in quick- as I have a excercise class at 10 (15 mins...ahh) Just wanted to say good morning and that everyone seems to be doing so well. I had a couple slip ups yesterday- 2 chocolate chip cookies- and half a bag of m&m's I feel so guilty- which usually would mean I would eat- I'm hoping this class will get me over it. I'm also going to weigh to see if i did serious damage- better to find out sooner than later. keep my fingers crossed! I will check in later for personals! have a good day ladies!
