Default 300+ And Ready To Try Again # 973

WELCOME !!!

We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone to join us in our journey.
We share laughter and tears.
We share what works for us and what doesn't.
We often use a "Topic of the Day" for discussion.

Motivational Monday
Tuesday Tips
Wednesday Wish List .. and What you are doing to obtain it.
Thankful Thursday
FUN Friday ... don't wait until you lose your weight.
Sit-up Saturdays - any physical activity
Share your Success Sunday

These are not required topics ...just ideas to share. We often find them very helpful. We also share heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations.

We have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, and more. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group...
we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

WELCOME!

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for Amazon on any page in the forum, or by clicking on the button on the main 3FC page at www.3fatchicks.com . A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's like $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!!!

Hey thanks for the info, I didn't know that
I love eating real pineapples, but I try to stay away from them because they are pretty high in sugar.

dogpal: hey thanks !

Melissa - OMG I'm tired from my 40 min walk earlier. I am gonna sleep so good tonight. Thanks for the inspiration chicki
By the way I noticed you are half way to 299 on your ticker !! yay!!

I changed my slider from my all time goal to a new shorter goal, that number was a bit too much to look at so I changed it to a shorter goal number.

Misti--you can shake things up other than exercise, and if you do choose to shake up the exercise, it doesnt mean you have to do more of it...lord know youre doing plenty for the both of us! If youre scared to try increasing your calories, have you considered calorie cycling? Its where you eat a few calories more some days and a few less other days so you still end up with the same daily average at the end of the week. Its supposed to keep your body on its toes, so to speak, instead of becoming too comfortable with a certain calorie amount. Just a suggestion

Okay, this is really bugging me...my browser window wont let me type an apostrophe! Im a technical writer, so its killing me to see all these unpunctuated contractions in this post, but every time I try to type an apostrophe, it opens up the browsers search function. Weird. So please forgive my lack of apostrophes here today (not that most people are as grammatically anal as me to care)

Abbeycat--I agree that a smaller goal feels much more achievable when you look at those tickers. I used to have one of each: a short-term and a long-term goal, but then the sisters asked us to shorten our signatures

prissi--same as dogpal said, I dont think Ive seen you on here before, but I have been in and out in spurts for a few months now, so hopefully Ill be around long enough to get to know you this time!

Vilandra--how nice that hubby goes walking with you! When I ask my boyfriend to go for a walk with me, hes like, "why, did your car break down?" He just thinks its pointless which right now is fine by me since its been sooooo hot and humid here lately.

Well, as for me, things are still going well. Stuck to my plan again yesterday, although I did have some yellow corn both on my salad at lunch and with my chicken at dinner, but last night I made some mashed cauliflower to have as a side next time instead, so Ive prepared for future side-less dishes I know I shouldnt weigh myself every day, and I wont be disappointed or shocked or upset if it goes back up a pound or two in the next few days because I realize the evil, evil ways of the scale, but it was down again this morning to 291.5 (from 295.5-296 on Sunday). I know the weight wont continue to drop as quickly, but for now, it sure is nice to see!

Abbeycat - I gave you inspiration? Wow. Yeah, I'm nearly half-way!! I can't believe it. Great going on your 40 minute walk!!

Jill - Yeah, I'm luckly, my DH is supporting me 100%, therefore he counts calories, strength trainings, and walks with me. It's nice.

Misti - I didn't mean more exercise by shake it up... there is even such a thing as TOO much exercise. You can even shake up your workout routine. Some people even swear by taking a week off or switching exercise for a week to help them get off a plateau. Others swear by eating more calories for a short period of time or as Jill said, calorie cycling might be the answer. For instance, if you are doing cardio only, I'd say add weights and do fewer cardio sessions. If you are doing cardio and weights, I'd say take a week off and do something like Yoga or Tai Chi. If you are doing a certain type of cardio like power walking, then you could switch to something like swimming. The other thing to do is intesity intervals if you aren't already doing them. With your food, you could try various things like switching up the type of foods you are eating for a week. Basically, your program isn't working currently, you may need to do something different rather than trying to do more of the same.

Mel - I think Jill gave a good guideline on sodium and I have no idea how sodium I eat but I try to heavily restrict my sodium. I don't add salt to my food anymore, I buy canned beans/tomatoes that have no sodium added or I rinse them if they do. I also avoid processed foods. I notice that on the days I eat out, I generally have up to a 4 lb gain because restaurants tend to add lots of sodium to their food which will cause water retention. As far as carbs go, I believe the less processed the better. White rice is processed, White flour is processed so... I eat brown rice and I eat 100% whole wheat bread products that have minimal ingredients. Almost everything, except meat, naturally has carbs in it. Some items have more carbs than others but if you have a well rounded diet where you eat a variety of fruits and veggies, whole grains, legumes and lean meats, then you really don't have to worry about trying to count carbs or eating the right types of carbs. Of course that is my opinion

I have good news. I think I finally got a decent night sleep. I didn't drink any caffeine yesterday at all and I slept ok. Even though I was limiting my caffeine to early in the day, I'm not sure if that was good enough. I did still wake up quite a few times but I didn't stay awake a long time. I still think it has something to do with the weather or the environment. I have to say that not being able to sleep does feel like torture.

HI everyone!

My scale was down another pound from yesterday but it tends to jump around until my next weigh in. I see a pattern since I weigh every day. I like that because for me, if I was to just get on a scale once a week, it might be on one of those 'up' days and then the next day it may go back down. I don't like the surprises, I prefer to know where I'm going day by day.

So my hubby is out golfing today, lucky him. He's off for 2 weeks now that he's home so he's in vacation mode. I work from home (computer work) so I have to stay in.

nelie:
I know all too well about insomnia. I had it for 2 years straight, and then on and off for a few years after that. It was caused by stress. I think yeah if you limit your caffeine that would probably help a lot, but maybe you could look at whether you have a lot of stress in your life, and see where you might be able to reduce it. I know, sometimes easier said than done, which was the case for me. I have reduced it a lot since then, but after that I started having anxiety attacks regularly too. My mom suggested I might be low on B vitamins, so I bought some B's called "B complex 100" which have 100 of each B vitamin. I started taking them every day, and now NO anxiety attacks, and my insomnia is gone. I have the odd rare night where i feel it a bit but I would say not any more than the avg person. Maybe you should try it too. I cannot tell you how good it feels to be able to relax again.

Also I have a couple of small things that I see changing even having just lost 18 pounds -
1. My hubby last night says I can now keep up with him, when we went walking last night. He said I walk twice as fast as I did before!
2. I now have the power in my legs to use stairs properly.
Sadly, and I'm embarrased to say this, but I had been walking down stairs sort of kid-like, taking one step and then one more, rather than one leg in front of the other.
When going UP stairs, if I was at home, I would avoid stairs if at all possible. I'd try to keep it to the minimum amount of trips that I could. When I did go up, I would use my 2 hands/with my legs and sort of crawl up. Sad but true. I never let my husband see this though. I am no longer allowing myself to do that.

~ Angie

I was planning on posting but ran out of time. I just wanted to mention that I still have trouble with stairs. Sometimes I am ok with them, but most of the time I have to take them one at a time. That is one of the things I am hoping will change in the near future.

Anyway, I need to get off to the gym. Hopefully I will be able to check back in later.

Hi Ladies - For those of you who don't know...we passed the 100,000 minute mark on the exercise thread today!!
As for me, I'm trying to get a hour or so per day of walking still...I don't know how long my momentum will last, but I love walking now. I and LOVE the feeling of my muscles working and burning when lifting weights - makes you feel kinda powerful when you're challenging yourself with a heavier than usual weight. DH is working late shift today (left at 2:20, home around 10:45) and today is his (well, everyone's) evaluation today!! And he has moved - as of today I think - from a supervisor "in training" to a full super! And he *could* get a raise with his evaluation today! I'm so proud of him...I wish I had a good way of letting him know that....and besides telling him - which I do - I dunno, lol. He's such a hard worker, AND he puts up with me, lol, so he's a tough cookie! LOL! Anyways, so far I'm having a good day....all my early exercise felt GREAT! I'm off to play a game now!
Hope everyone has a great day!
Stay OP chickies!!!

Just a REALLY quick fly by post as I am running late this morning. I decided that I would fit in an extra half hour of sleep.

Ammi - I LOVE YOUR NEW AVATAR!!!!!! You look really cute! What a difference between that pic and your 'before' pics. WWWHHHEEEOOO... Oh dear... I'm not sure how to type a wolf whistle. LOL

Well done on all those who contribute to the exercise thread! I think I guessed that we would make it to 100,000 by August 21st, so I was a little out with my estimation. I can't remember the exact date though, so I may have been closer.

Have a wonderful day all!

Take care,

Zelma

YAYY .. finally back online lol .. only off for 36 hours but I really missed being able to quickly look something up or catch up with news with friends etc ..

Anyway ... I kept busy cleaning and I have decided to forget waiting til I "feel better about how I look" I realised after I wrote that I was being silly, I need to jump in the deep end or I will keep finding a reason not to .. soooo Im now an AVON lady!! I have just finished typing up an introductory letter to pop in mail boxes and printing up a bunch of them .. when my daughter gets home from school Im going to go for a walk with her to deliver a bunch of them (I take someone with me in case I start having a panic attack) .. just have to finish folding them all.

Its been a good week food and water wise .. Im actually getting in the 2 litres a day .. but Im not eating as much as my programme says to lol .. I cant do both and I figure as my water content is so low I really need to focus on that a little more. I popped on the scales this morning and its looking good for this week so far .. just have to keep doing what Im doing .. my weigh in is on Friday .. so will be hoping for a better result than last week

Great to read of the fantastic losses this week ... who would have thought how great it would be to be called a Loser!! rofl ..

Some lovely pics are appearing for the avatars .. Im still working to get back to how my avatar looked as that was a couple of years ago when I was overseas and my face is a little fatter now ... but when Im ready to stand in front of a camera again I will change it lol...

Keep up the great work everyone ... Ciao!
