Re the yoga/tai chi...
I've tried to do yoga but my body just isn't able to hold those poses right now. maybe you will though so you should at least try it. Tai chi is much like yoga but it's a standing thing, so I think if you were to try that it would be perfect for you. I have a tai chi DVD here and it's no impact at all.
If anyone knows of any yoga DVD's that are easier to do than others? let me know. I've wanted to do yoga for a long time. I cannot fold my legs up over my knees, etc so that's the problem here. That's the 'intro' part of it and even that I can't do yet.
I do have 2 other workout DVD's though that although I find are a little fast for me, will become do-able as time goes on. One is crunch cardio dance party and the other is turbo jam.
Yesterday I was out all day to two events - one was my BF's company picnic and then to my aunt and uncle's for some time with my family. It was busy and fun and now I am trying to get a bunch of chores done.
I have learned an important lesson yesterday, however. I decided that I was going to make a sticky date cake (recipe from one of my favorite restaurants) to take to the family gathering. This was with the logic that if I was going to eat dessert, I would eat something I really wanted and not waste my calories on something I didn't really want. Well, that logic is fine except I forgot to take one other thing into account. Leftovers!!! How stupid of me not to think of that! I now have half a cake in my kitchen and I have no idea what I am going to do with it.
On the yoga question, I use a dvd produced by Just My Size with Megan Garcia. She also has a book out that I got for my birthday. I find I can do most of the poses. It is a good starting place for those of us with more stuff in the way. It doesn't matter how flexible you are, when you are over a certain weight things just won't go certain places. In fact, I might do that dvd tonight.

AMEN! I have always been a very flexible person (who knows how that happened)--I have always been able to (and still can) kepp my feet together and bend all the way over at the waist and touch the floor flat-palmed without bending my knees at all. I had friends in high school/college who could run a mile in 5 minutes but couldn't even bend half as far as me. I could also always (and still can) do a full backbend from a standing position. However, as was mentioned, there are plenty of things I can't do simply because there's, umm, stuff in the way. One thing I long to do that I haven't been able to do for as long as I can remember is just sit on the floor with my knees pulled in to my chest. I can't ever gett my knees in close enough to be comfortable because my big belly is always in the way. Ah well, someday...
Thankies for your comments on the yoga .. I have ordered a DVD from an online rental place called Yoga for Dummies ... and another one called Workout for Dummies .. sorta figured if they are too easy then I will look for something else . . but I have found those sorts of titles are usually the best ones to start with cos they are really basic.
I used to be a lot more flexible ... not that I was ever small .. but I could kick my leg above my head, do the splits etc .. now Im happy I can still sit on the floor with my legs crossed rofl ... just not for a long time before the circulation stops rofl .. my feet can be put together when I stand up ... but its not very comfortable, and even sitting in a chair with my legs crossed gets uncomfortable after a bit ... mind you .. the chair isnt the most comfy which is a good thing cos otherwise I would stay in it more rofl ...
I have to wait a couple of weeks for the DVDs cos they are out on loan at the moment, but if they are good ones I will keep them for a few weeks to work on, then get the next level up Thankies!
I am going to try to post a picture here... although it has never worked! This is the "straight out of the shower" look... but what I liked about it is how healthy I look! LOL yikes at all the freckles but that is the price I have to pay for being outside exercising!!!
Yes...those are actually bones showing in my shoulders
Ahhh it did post but turned out SO tiny!!! How do other people post normal size pix?
Notthecheat - Thanks so much for the suggestion on the yoga DVD!! I looked it up and they have it at my 'movie delivery' place where I order them online so I put it on my list!! Yay!! I'm happy!
I'm so glad now that I asked!
I had a 'no exercise' day today (that's every Sunday) and did some housecleaning so I still got a little weeee bit of movement in today. It was either hot in here or I'm sweating easier than I used to, I had sweat running down my face. ew.
Misti I just wanted to let you know that yup your pic works and if you click on the little square one in your post, it brings up the bigger version of it. Give it a try.
Your pic looks really nice!

Sue, you look awesome! I wish I looked that good straight out of the shower. You must have excellent bone structure, because I'm a 2X and I have no NECK. I remind myself of a frog. My chins begat more chins until my neck disappeared. You'd think with all the eating I've done over the years, I'd at least have a skinny face from all the exercise.LOL. Little picture or not you look "simply marvelous".

Thanks... and yes I did realize that it brings up one slightly bigger but still far smaller than my picture I submitted... while often on here I see pix posted that are SO huge they won't even fit on the screen.
Oh well.... thanks!
Thanks to you too, harkey, for the compliments! LOL I have PLENTY of neck... in fact I am happy to see a lot of it also disappearing along with some of my double chin. Tee hee good point about the exercise of eating. Unfortunately I don't think it works that way.
Misti..
yeah I don't know either why sometimes people can post pics and they appear really huge. It's a mystery to me too, I've only posted one pic and it told me there was a limit to how large it could be, etc. Maybe they are posting a link to a photo that's hosted on another page so it's loading at full size? That's my only guess right now but maybe someone can answer that.
Xena, I'm glad you are back posting, I'm sure things will 'click' soon. Have you thought of trying a different eating plan? The change might spur you into eating right & losing, that's what I do.xxx
Ammi, I hope the weigh-in goes well and Beth isn't putting on you too much, (a sick teenager?? who could be more demanding????)lolxxxxx
Rkrs, nearly there, 100lbs gone, you are doing so well. I know what you mean about big bottoms and losing from your top half first, I REALLY CAN'T spare any of my boobs, but they are going faster than my big bottom & legs!!lolxxx
Misti, wow, you have fantastic cheekbones, hope I'll have some visible ones someday, sigh, lol.xxxx
Nightkatt, I never tried yoga but those big exercise balls are really good, I have a yoga/pilates dvd to use with the ball and it's great for all of your body without putting undue stress on any one body part AND my fat doesn't get in the way, for once, lol.xxxx
Nancy, can you freeze the cake??? possibly cut it into small slices for treats. What I've done to get rid of birthday/special occasions cakes is to take it round to neighbours, they always love it, I get a walk in and don't eat all of the cake!!!xxxx
Abbeycat, hope all goes well with seeing hubby, will we see you online at all over the next few days?? lol!!xxx
Wyllen, how does it feel to be so much slimmer, 100 whole pounds?? Has you head caught up with your body yet?xxx
I went out Friday for a curry with hubby & the boys, I also had a few gin & low cal. tonics but was totally OP on Sunday. I enjoyed the meal but found my tastes are really changing, a brand of biscuits I used to like before,;which Steve bought the other day and I had ONE BITE; tasted VILE!! so something is working!!!
Mel, great to see you back.xxx
xxsharon
Hi Ladies - Done all my exercise for the night....throughout the day I got in a 24 minute walk, a 27 minute walk, and 18 minutes of yoga/stetches/calf exercises. (I think those are the right minutes ) Feeling good! Our town's pool is closed for August - so come September I'm going to run to the pool, LOL, I can't wait!! There are some places to swim outdoors here....but that's not my thing. Oh well, I will just have to hold off swimming until next month. Bought some strength training books online tonight...hopefully they will ahve some good new moves in them for me to try...and when I get stronger and smaller I can go the harder moves in the book as well - I got 5...one of them I've read from the library before and I *love* it; some really great exercise ball moves in it. (Denise Austin - "Sculpt Your Body with Balls and Bands"...I believe.) Well, I'm off for now!
Have a good one everybody, and stay OP chickies!!
The photos I see huge on here are not links... in fact they don't even show the thumbnails... they are just huge right in the thread. And yes, for me it does show there is a size limit. Oh well.... guess this will have to do.
Misti -- I actually prefer the embedded ones like yours. The big ones screw up my viewer, I find. And I LOVE that just out of the shower look! You are glowing in the pic!!
Sharon -- Great NSV about not liking the biscuits. My advice: Don't give yourself a chance to like them again!
As for whether my head has caught up with my body, good question. Sometimes I look at myself and see this definitely thinner person looking back. One without 3 chins and with a more defined jawline and collarbones and I just grin and grin at myself. But other times I see this definitely obese woman and I think "Who are you trying to kid".
Ironically, those fat and thin moments can be seconds apart!
I really don't know how big I am. But then, I don't think I knew 100 pounds ago. I was really in denial then.
I will say this: my clothes are a LOT smaller now! That's one way to know for sure!
