I decided to drop in and say hi during my little break from cleaning and reorganizing the kitchen. I thought a little rearrangement might give me more motivation to actually prepare meals instead of just grabbing convenience food. I'm not paying much attention to my scale at the moment, as it seems to give me a different weight no matter where I stand. Next time I'm at the pharmacy I'll try out the doctor's scales again and see how it compares.
I took a big step in the past couple of days (at least for me). . . I showed the before and after pic I put together here to a handful of my online friends, something I've been extremely self-concious about. I mean, I've shown pics before, but they're all at very flattering angle or conveniently cropped off. One of my many goals here is to finally be comfortable in my own skin. . . I'd love to be able to post a straight-on pic with my hair pulled back and not have to feel worried about it. But of course my friends were very supportive (as I knew they would be) yet I still have it in the back of my mind that I can't fit in because of it (er, childhood memories are unkind, even now).
Anyway, I feel like I'm on the right track. Hope everyone's doing great!
I am in a mad rush typing this, but someone asked if I had heard anything from the magazine. Sorry, I don't have time to check the old thread and find out who it was. But thank you VERY much for asking.
Well... I did hear from them, and I'm supposed to keep things quiet... so...
I can tell you that I haven't won... yet... and I'm not sure when I'll find out who the winner is, but hopefully within a few weeks.
What I CAN tell you is that I will not be on for a few more days, because I have to fly to Sydney for Monday and Tuesday, to be 'pampered', with three other people. I fly back Tuesday evening, VERY late, so I won't get time to post until maybe Wednesday morning or afternoon. Hopefully I'll be able to tell you a little more then.
Woo hooo Zelma, that is good news and means you are in the finalists, I would think! Can't wait to hear more, and congratulations on having made it this far. Enjoy the pampering!
Nightkatt... it WAS really hard for me when I first started going to the pool; very embarrassing and still could be if I let it. But I just grit my teeth, rip off my giant T-shirt and jump in! And it is helping tremendously! At the gym even you basically work out one area at a time... but in the water even when you are focusing on one area of your body the other parts are getting a workout too! It is great!
Karen, glad you showed your pix!!! That is hard, I know!!!!
MISTI – YIPPEE on the NSV! That’s SO cool and it had to feel GREAT!
MELPERIMETER – WELCOME!!!!!! By all means, jump right in!!
PATTI - I hope the sinuses are better with the meds. This heat is a bear, isn’t it?!
SUGARKUBE – W!T!G! on the 6 down!! Congrats!!
NIGHTKATT – I’m sorry! You must have somehow gotten all MY broken bones.. and a few other peoples from the sound of it. OUCH! ** On the bread issue, for me there’s no such thing as a little bit. It’s an all or nothing deal. I have to get it out of my system and then I don’t even miss it, but a slice or two, or God forbid – pasta – and I’m totally out of control. So I’ve learned my limits, I just don’t always limit myself accordingly. I HAVE to get control back!
ESMARAUDE, I’m glad you felt comfortable enough to share as much as you did. You HAVE to feel better with such a wonderful loss of weight!! I can relate because we’re in a very similar state. Keep up the great work!
WOO-HOO!!!! GO ZELMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On the issue of getting into a swimsuit and going to a public pool, I remember a post from Catherine (boy, I miss her!) where she talked about other ladies having the courage to start a swimming program themselves because they saw the courage that she had. How wonderful to be able to inspire others to help themselves, and pffffft on anyone with a negative opinion, because it doesn’t matter! APPLAUSE to those of you in a swimming program! I continue to miss the water, and was asked even today by little Steph (8yo) if I liked to swim. She was amazed that I don’t even have a swim suit. Once in a long while we stay at a motel with a pool, and I always consider whacking off a pair of jeans and going in in a T-shirt, but otherwise I don’t have the opportunity to swim. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it. But I also know I’m still a coward, and I’m so proud of those of you who take your health as more important that what someone that doesn’t even matter MIGHT possibly think in the short term. SO, HURRAH for the water logged!!!
Good morning Everyone,
Well It's a beautiful morning here in the southeast. My husband and I were up at 4:30am at the local walking park....I dragged him out of bed..I am glad to have the walk over and feel alot better for walking. We ended up walking 3 miles. I hope everyone has a great day.
Well Nightkatt, you poor thing, I THOUGHT I WAS CLUMSY!!! lol. Seriously though a car part in the sea, hitting you, what a freak accident! The others well it could so easily have been me, apart from the breaking in horses, I've only ever ridden them once they've been well trained, I'm not experienced enough to do anything else. Where abouts are you in NZ? My hubby & the boys & me were SUPPOSED to be moving to The Bay of Plenty area or Gisbourne but he won't move til he gets a job and he hasn't looked for one yet!!!! He's a printer and I'm a literacy teacher, so we know that we have enough 'points' to get over there. Are you a 'native' Kiwi or did you move there? Sorry to ask so many questions, but is the cost of living & wages ok over there? I hope your ankles heal up and that you are able to get mobile soon, weight is so much easier to shift when you can exercise, or even just walk a bit. xxx Misti, I know exactly what you mean about swimming, I only do it when we are abroad, in the pool and I too struggle to get out, plus I'm scared of slipping on the shallow steps some pools have, as well as being worried about people staring, I can't get in quickly enough!!! A funny thing happened on Turkey, though I've swum in the sea a lot there, we went on a different beach and I took myself out and was enjoying myself when I felt a fish against my leg, ugh, I stood up and felt another on, nibbling my foot, I started to run through the water to get out and got BITTEN!!!! I didn't go in the sea there again. It's made me scared of swimming in the sea now, even though there wasn't any visible bite and it didn't really hurt, it scared me, I'm such a wuss. Melperimeter & Endthereign WELCOME, tell us about yourselves, what plan are you following, exercises, what you like & dislike, I'm SO NOSEY!! xxx Karen/esmaurade so glad you're back with us, your drawings are brilliant! I love your red hair, I remember seeing some pics a while ago where you'd just done your hair a brighter, more intense red, it looked fantastic.xxx Zelma, 'WHO'S QUEEN?' it HAS to be you!!!! I will wait with bated breath for you news.xxxxx Sugarkube WOW 6lbs, brilliant!!! xxx
Ammi, I've washed the jeans and will parcel them up today, though depending on Steve's shifts it might be a week or so before they can be posted as I'm not up to walking very far yet. Valerie, wish I could help you with Gabe, though if I got on him he'd be sway-backed, lol. Good luck with him, I'm sure you'll be riding him before Christmas, it HAS TO BE A GOOD INCENTIVE to lose weight. If I knew there was any horse I could have, let alone a beauty like yours, I would lose weight as good as Kayley & Crock!!!! xxx Kayley, BRILLIANT on the promotion, how long have you been there? lol, you must have impressed them!!!! Give your guy a cuddle from me, I know how horrible the pain can be, my hubby's thingies were HUGE with swelling, I had to laugh!! lol xxx Crock, hope you are ok xxx Annie, where are you? hope all is well xxxx
Gotta go & do dinner, if I missed mentioning anyone, sorry, time is moving too fast for me. Oh RKRS, your pics are great and you can see the difference in them, you are really pretty too. xxsharon:grouphug:
Sharon, yeeks about getting bitten while swimming! I used to go in the ocean quite a bit when I lived walking distance of the beach in Fort Lauderdale but now I'm about 100 miles inland.
Regarding swimming, in a lot of pools you don't HAVE to put on a swimsuit. No way can I wear one because my boobs are still too big. Tankinis are popular now so if you "build" a suit close enough it will "pass" -- In our apt. complex pool they are not that picky and I've seen people in there just in shorts and tops so my "made up" suit is not a problem but I also wore this at the YMCA pool for months. I just got a tank top and "short" biker shorts. And yay BTW lately I have been noticing that my top is getting really baggy! Yay!
I just have a few minutes so I need to make this quick. We are heading out for lunch and some shopping - I have to get to Trader Joe's to stock up for the week.
Mel and Rene - This is a fantastic place for support. Jump right in! Mel - Where are you in NJ? I live right near the boarder.
Zelma - Oh!!! That is so exciting that you made it to the top 3!!! I never doubted it but . . . Hope you have a fabulous time in Sydney.
I had an NSV yesterday on our trip to Ikea. Actually two. No, make that 3. First of all we always stop for dinner in their little cafeteria and I would always get a big plate of their meatballs (with lots of gravy), a slice of cake, and a lingonberry juice. Last night I got their chicken (marsala - had a bit of sauce, but still a better choice), a side salad and a cup of coffee. I was pleased to be able to knock that "tradition eating" out the window. Then, usually by the end of an Ikea trip I am so tired I want to crawl home. Last night my feet hurt a small bit, but other than that I was fine. Lastly when we were getting our purchases into our car I was able to help my BF lift the big box we got with no problem at all. It felt good to be capable.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend and I will try to check back in later.
THanks for the welcomes everyone. I'm not officially started yet with my home-made plan - I'm waiting until after my birthday on Aug 8 and taking the time to clean the house of 'bad' food and switching over to drinking all water and trying to get some exercise in already. NottheCheat - I'm right in the middle of NJ, near Trenton - pretty far away from the border of NY.
I just got back from a Maine vacation with the family - lots of swimming at the lake. I haven't owned a suit for at least a decade and was NOT going to be showing off anything. I chose a tank top and a pair of cotton guaze capris. THey were really supposed to be a cover-up for a bathing suit, but I wore them in swimming and they dried quickly out of the water.
Just wanted to pop in and say Welcome
I need to get things done around here today. I just got home from a craft sale/flea market. Pretty bad jewellery day but sold a couple hundred in other crap we had around the house this weekend. I am using the extra money to buy a guitar from my neighbor. He just bought it a few months ago and has to have an operation on his arm and won't be able to play anymore. I have wanted one for YEARS so I am having my FILaw come over to take a look at it. He is a singer/songwriter and an AWESOME musician, so I value his opinion on it. It is a Gibson for those that know them so I am sure it will be fine.
Anyway, back to the grind again tomorrow and back to work as well. Exercise is going to start again too as I am going to walk to work. Still too hot to walk home at supper time but 30 min is better than nothing. I am also going to start back at the pool in a couple weeks. It has been too hectic and I made lots of excuses why I should NOT go. I was doing awesome and the weight was falling off when I was going regularly. Time to get back in the swing of things.
Anyhoo, we are all SO excited for you Zelma I had ALL my friends vote for you. Good Luck!!
Hi Everyone! Hope everyone is having a nice weekend!
Sunday is my 'off' day - by that I mean I don't exercise and I get a 'cheat' item today. I do keep it logged and within my calorie limits however, just to keep me honest.
Misti - Awesome news on the pool/ladder thing!! Misti you keep up the good work, that's great news! Another thing I never understood.. why do people care what a person wears in their pool?? I mean, as long as it isn't going to affect the pool itself, why should it matter?
Brenda - awesome you're using your saved up cash to do something you've wanted for a while! I see you live in PEI. I'm originally from NS but now I live in BC, a world away from the maritimes. Hubby is in the military and prob will be done in about 7 yrs and then we may travel back to the other coast but we haven't decided for sure yet. Housing is VERY costly where we live right now. UGH. It is absolutely beautiful here though, so I guess that is why the housing cost is very high.
Zelma - congrats on your contest stuff although I didn't read the details it sounds like you are in a competition of some sort and must be doing really well!!
I have 1 week left until my hubby comes back home from his trip!! yay!! I can't wait!! I miss him like crazy
Hi angie
Nice to hear that we have another Maritimer around. There are a few of us My sis in law is getting ready to move to Vancouver in a few weeks. Her and her new hubby are heading out looking for work and ready to lay down some roots. At least till they have babies she says *L* then they will come back home.
I am not sure if I missed it but where is your hubby at? Is it a work trip?
Just a quickie, I posted 3 pics, my ankle, my new hair colour and my two youngest sons being nice to each other instead of the usual fighting, they are both dirty from dinner and playing down the garden. I think Aiden 'bathes' in his dinner and rolls in any dirt he can find, we call him the 'dirt magnet'!!! lol
