I would love to compile a list of the best healthy foods, whether they be meals, snacks, desserts, etc. to keep on my computer. If you all would like to post your favorites I would appreciate it!! A couple that come to mind for me are Yoplait yogurt, a nice greek salad with lo-cal dressing, and baked "oven-fried" chicken.
Soy crips with hummus for dip (150 calories, high fiber and protien)
Light laughing cow cheese spread (35 calories a wedge!)
Dannon carb control yogurt on frozen unsweetened raspberries
Natural ovens breads (may be regional)
La Tortilla factory tortillas...so much fiber it's almost a free food, great for wraps
Veggie chili...high fiber and fat free.
Hmmm...I really like what I just had for dinner...it's one of my favorites. It's low carb, but oh so scrumptious!
You start off with boneless, skinless chicken breast, and roll it in ranch dressing (I use Carbwell as I'm on a lowcarb diet), and then roll the chicken in crushed up pork rinds...sort of a "shake n bake" but healthier. I bake the chicken for about 30 minutes, and then add shredded cheese to the top of it, and then bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
Even if you aren't on low carb, this is a REALLY tasty and easy (and fairly quick) meal.
fruit - fresh or dried
vegetables - raw (sometimes with salsa for dipping)
diet yoghurt
low-fat icecream with diet jello
"Fluff" (that's what my dietician friend calls it) - you mix a diet jello with less water than usual (we usually have to use 500ml water for a normal jello, and I use 350ml for these) then let it cool on the kitchen counter. When it is cool enough you whisk in a diet or fat-free yoghurt. Then refrigerate until set. These are delicious and definitely satisfy a sweet tooth. I love mixing the flavours of jellos and yoghurts. My dietician friend says that I could have all of this mix, but I find that I have plenty if I divide it into two small containers and have one of those with some fruit for a snack. YUM! Our jellos come in packs of two, so I usually make up both of those (separately) and make a double batch of fluffs. They last me 4 days then as one of my snacks.
I also love marshmallows and flavoured licorice as a special fat free snack.
My meals are very basic, so I figured I would focus on snacks and let others put in their meals.
Good idea for a thread though. I'm hoping to get some good ideas.
At the moment I'm loving the pre-packed stir fry veg , with some extra red peppers and mushrooms, dry fry or add a little water and five spice or Thai seven spice, use chicken, tofu or whatever protein you like, unsalted cashew nut are gorgeous with this.
Houmous is my fave snack, they do low fat versions, with carrot or red pepper sticks to dip, or celery. Seeds and unsalted nut are nice too, they are 'GOOD FATS'.
I hope you are well and almost ready for the new arrival, glad to see that you are still around, I was worried you might have taken ill with your pregnancy and other stuff going off.

They can be bad on sodium levels, but I love the boxed soups such as Trader Joes or Pacific Foods. TJ's has a fantastic Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato that is so great - about 100 calories a cup I think.
I love cottage cheese with a little bit of sriracha in it (I love spicy stuff) and some baby carrots as a snack.
I have a new favorite - Van's Eggrolls. You get them at Wal-Mart. They are fabulous if you cook them in the oven and only 2 WW points per full-sized eggroll! YUM!
I love stir-fries with chicken or shrimp or both! and lots of veggies.
I also love Mexican food made the low-fat way, with FF cheese, chicken breast, black beans, FF sour cream, salsa and veggies! I hear wonderful things about the La Tortilla Factory tortillas, but they are TINY! I get the low-carb Momma Rosa's (I think) tortillas at Wal-Mart and they are FAB and only 1 WW pt each, high fiber, low cal!
For fruits, banana's lead the list, but I also am a big fan of apples sectioned and tossed with splenda and cinnamon. Even my husband loves that!
I've found so many healthy ways to cook things since starting this journey last February I couldn't begin to name them all!
Not a meal or snack, but something healthy that I ALWAYS keep on hand is frozen chopped spinach. I don't like many veggies, but you can add spinach to so manythings and not even taste it! I add it to spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce, pasta salads, pasta side dishes, meatballs...if you really can't stand the stuff or are trying to hide it, I've actually mixed it up in a food processor so that it blends in so well it just looks like seasoning! My boyfriend will never know I also use bagged spinach leaves instead of lettuce on sandwiches and in salads. To me, the stuff is almost flavorless, still a little crunchy, and SO much healthier for you than most types of lettuce!
I have grown quite a fondness for apples. I can't seem to get enough of them! I also like asparagus, spinach and popcorn. Oatmeal is getting high on the list too. Hmmmmm??? Sounds like I'm making a change for the better!
