Good morning ladies!

I'm very glad its Friday. Work is still very hectic and very stressful with no signs of really letting up. I guess that why I get paid what I do - but still I don't like that it has wrecked such havoc on my energy level at home. I will have to be getting that under control. I did find out that I have to go to work sometime this weekend and do some three-year projections of compensation and benefits. Great. DH has an all day trip and I was looking forward to having the day to myself around the house. Right now I'm planning on going over late in the afternoon tomorrow.

Exercise has been elusive this week. I've done well with my food though.

Today, I am participating in my first "Corporate Challenge" event. It is a city wide challenge that includes a walk, track events, fishing, darts, weight lifting, swimming events, raquet ball, tennis, etc. I decided that I could do the mile walk with no problem. Its not like its a timed event. I had a thought two days ago when they sent out an email begging for a female weight-lifter. They said that you didn't even have to be able to lift much - just show up and try. I thought about it for a few seconds but decided its this Saturday morning and I already have plans tackling things around the house. I told DH last night that part of me really wants to do it next year but be serious about it. It would give me time and plenty of incentive to keep working.

Sorry for not doing much in the way of replies this week. Maybe I can get back in gear this weekend.

Make Friday Fun!

I passed a test yesterday. I had to come home from work yesterday because I was having a very bad day with my SjS. I was home in bed, no one else here, feeling very sorry for myself because I felt so bad, knowing I had 10 pints of assorted flavors of my very favorite brand of ice cream in the freezer in the garage! I was able to fight the urges and resisted.

I know, I know, you are wondering what I'm doing with 10 pints of ice cream in my freezer. The grocery store around here put it on for 10 pints for $10.00 every so often, and the last time the did I bought it, but then I went to the Spring Fling and came back with new determination, and my prepared meals, so I've managed to stay away from it, but Boy was it hard yesterday

Default Fun Friday

Hmmm...what do I have planned in the way of fun??? I'm getting my hair cut and colored tonight, and my eyebrows waxed. My sister does me as her last customer of the night, One of her co-workers usually stays also, so she and my sister will do each other's hair too. I'll bring a bottle of wine and we'll all have a good time! It's a girly get together!

So, I haven't posted a decent post in quite a while. One of the reasons was that I was too busy, which is true, but I also made a deal with myself that I could NOT sit and do a leisurely post until I had fulfilled my exercise obligation for the day! (now you see why I haven't been here much?) Actually, I have been getting quite a bit of exercise, gardening and cleaning out the garage, but I wasn't counting that as true exercise. even though I am seriously huffing and puffing when I'm out in the yard! No, I want to establish a daily habit of either a good walk, a bike ride, or a visit to the gym. I have great intentions all day long, but things always seem to get in the way. Last night, it was about 5 minutes to 9...I said to the dog, "That's it! Where's the leash, we're going for a walk!" She is a more than willing walking partner. I will count walking her as exercise, because it's a toss up as to who's walking who with my big Lab! I put my earphones on and briskly walked along with Led Zeppelin IV. "Hey, hey mama, said the way you move, gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove!" I thought that was appropriate! We had a great walk, very aerobic. Today, I got myself over to the gym for Body Pump. It feels good to be moving again!

First of all...Yay Rupert!!! My boys both voted for him, I never got the chance. One question...WHO THE HECK VOTED BIG TOM FOR THE FINAL FOUR? Are they kidding? What the heck did he ever do? Ethan would have been a better choice...I think. Last night's show was great. Does anyone think that Sue Hawk looks any different? I love that Jeff dissed Johnny Fairplay! Rob and Amber looked much better last night than last week's show. I think they're cute. Really!

Shoot, I have to go pick the dog up from the groomer. I'd better be on time, since I was late dropping her off this morning.

I'll be back.....

Talking

Yay Friday!

I've had a good week foodwise so far - staying within my points range and getting water in. I've got to get in the exercise this weekend. I'm in town today paying bills and walked everywhere I needed to go; I need to walk around the track but it's midday here and already hot and humid (I know - I'm wearing that excuse OUT). I will try to walk a lap or two around the lab this evening - it's paved all around and is great for walking.

BarbPA - I never thought of exercising my arms while reading Thanks for the tip.

Kat - I wish I could join you and your friends; sounds like great fun!

Barbq - WOW! I can't even keep one pint of ice cream in my fridge! You did great!!

Lucky - your running your heat and I'm sitting under an AC at home; too funny; hope your plants made it okay.

I probably won't be back in here until Monday weigh-in; hope you all have a nice weekend. Glad to see Mary back!!!!

Hi All! Just a quickie. Got a message from Syn and she wanted me to pass on to all of you that she's been in the hospital. She just got home today and was too tired to fill me in on all of the details. Just says she has a pericardical effusion. One of you health care professionals, please fill us in in English.

Gotta run. Love ya bunches!

Hi gals,

I thought maybe I'd drop in and do a proper post for a change. I'm glad that its Friday and even though I have to go to the office tomorrow evening, I'm feeling relaxed for the first time this week.

I posted a quote from Dr Phil over on the book thread about how we set up our life to be fat and the comment that really has bugged me all day was the one about how life can be characterized as inert, harried and chaotic. That sums up how I've felt the last few weeks because of work and not being able to keep caught up around the house. At least it feels like weeks. I really want to nip that feeling in the bud. And yes, I sit at a desk a lot during the day, and even though I'm up and about lots, its still a desk job. I've been coming home late and exhausted. I've not done much exercise this week because of it. That is not a healthy lifestyle and I'm the only one to take control of it.

So tonight, I went to the Corporate Challenge and did my mile walk. I did not hang around in the company tent and eat snacks either. That wasn't that hard because they had cold scallop salad, a pasta salad dish, chicken on a stick, and a fruit salad. Weird snacks for an outdoor event. After dinner tonight, I reluctantly put my shoes back on and took the dog for his walk. He had been cooped up for a couple of days and he deserved to be out. Besides that, it mellows him dramatically.

The new People magazine has an article about three women who had gastric bypas and how they had regained the weight. All because they did not deal with the emotional issues that caused them to eat in the first place. I'm glad to see an article on that this isn't necessarily the magic cure that everyone is making it out to be.

Thin - Thanks for letting us know about Syn. Are you movie girl this weekend?

Connie - Good to see you again! Good job for staying OP and getting in that exercise. Its been hot and humid here too.

Kat - Good tactic about limiting posting. I need to do something like that. This week I've slacked off on my morning exercises and posted here instead. I agree about Big Tom. He only proved that Rob is right - dumb! I am soooo glad they didn't have Fairplay on the All Stars. Isn't walking with a dog more fun?? I feel naked when I walk alone.

Barb.G - Good grief, I'd never be happy with 10 pints of ice cream in the house until they were all gone. I'm proud of you for abstaining!! I used to be obsessed with Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter cup - which is exactly how I regained the 30 pounds I lost and then found some friends about 10 years ago. Sorry to hear that your Sjs is acting up again. Just keep strong against the ice cream!

Lucky - How's that big green ball? Hope you don't get snow. It's supposed to be 44 here tonight. Geez, I just shut the house up and turned the A/C on two days ago and now a cold front has come through. This is the spring of roller coaster weather for sure.

Lisa - I smiled when I read about your walk with your son. Years ago, this gal at work that also lived just down the street wanted to walk with me in the evenings. Except she had to bring her son and he never wanted to be in the stroller. Definitely was NOT a cardio walk.

2Cute - I know you're not posting and have a weekend guests. Just wanted to wish you a good weekend and hope you get some rest since you have such a busy week ahead.

BarbPA - You doing okay? Seems like you've been quiet this week. How are the Vegas plans?

Andria - How about you? Doing okay?

Hello to everyone else! My mind has now gone blank so I can't remember names.

I think I'm headed to the bed for the evening.
Good night!

I'm making an exception to my rule already...(no posting until I've exercised) I have a Cardio Mix class at 8:15, and I've already been out, dropping the boy off at a scouting event...so I have a little time to sip my coffee and come see what's happening here...um, not much, apparently!

I have to comment that I've come to realize (again) how regular exercise is a natural appetite suppressant...unless you just feel so good from exercising that you don't want to "blow it" by over indulging in food. Whatever....I feel as though I don't want to "waste" all of my good sweaty efforts by eating cookies. So the moral of the story is...EXERCISE!!! you'll feel good.

Terri. I'll have to show that People to my friend...she's seriously contemplating having WLS, has been to the info sessions at a hospital that specializes in bariatric surgery, consulted physicians there...sounds really interested and then she goes and tells me that she'll have it done in November so that she can be off from work for the holidays...WHY? To me, the holidays are notoriously the worst time of year for eating. There are DEEP psychological reasons for her eating the way she does (SCARY OVEREATING like you can't imagine...the whole family) and I don't know if that will be addressed properly. She says there is a psych eval, which I'm glad to hear, but I hope it's an ongoing process because she has some major food issues. She's mentioned to me a few times that I wouild be eligible, and that I should consider it. (misery loves company?) I told her that I'll have to stick with the old fashioned way...I can honestly say that I'd rather slowly plod along, changing the way I think about food, incorporating exercise and healthy eating into my lifestyle instead of opting for surgery. I don't want to be in the hospital!!! I work in one, remember?

That's not to say that it isn't for everyone...it just isn't for me.

Okay, rant over.

Now...onto medical terminology for Thin and Syn:

Pericardial effusion: The pericardium is the sac that surrounds the heart. It contains a small amount of fluid that helps to cushion the heart. Sometimes, due to different disease processes, the fluid increases and can cause the heart to not work as efficiently. Most times diuretics help to eliminate the excess fluids...Sometimes drs will do a "tap" to determine the cause...(a needle is inserted into the pericardium to draw fluid out for analysis)

I hope that you are feeling better, Syn! Get well vibes comin' atcha!

Uh oh, times up here, gotta get to the gym!

Love to all, see you later..............

Good morning!

Jeez, Kat's going to a Cardio class at 8:15 in the morning. Makes it hard to sit here like a lump.

Oh wait, would that be the "inert" as Dr. Phil pointed out?

DH just left to take a busload of kids to a track meet and should be gone all day. I have mixed emotions. 1. I'm thrilled to have the house to myself and if the dog bugs me, his butt will be thrown outside. 2. DH has a cold and does not feel good (or is it well?) so I feel bad that it was too late to get another driver. 3. He was walking around saying, "oh man" and moaning so I'm glad he's gone so that I don't have to listen to him in his death throes from the cold.

As soon as I get off here, and that will be shortly, I'm going to get dressed and jump on housework and laundry. I will not be inert. I will be intentionally active this day and feel great about what I accomplish.

Kat - That is disturbing about your friend. I do think that so many people see it as the ultimate answer to losing weight but don't address all the other issues, like not bothering to exercise or eat healthy foods. I do know that it does work well for some people so no hate mail, please. However, the reason why "diets" fail is because we fail to make the lifestyle changes that are necessary. I also think its highly irresponsible of the media to make such a glamorous thing of it. Stepping down off the soapbox.

Hi Girls! Happy Saturday! I know I have been quiet this week (thanks for dragging me out of hiding Terri ). It's just been such a roller coaster the past few months and now I am trying to get back into a routine, but I'm having a difficult time. I did manage to get to the gym a few times this week and add in some exercise at home. I am struggling a bit with food. I do great when I am at work, but evenings and weekends are tough. I was watching a Dr. Phill show about food addictions and it hit me yesterday - "I am addicted to food". I'm not sure when or how it happened - although I know it was in my much younger days, but I just love food. So does hubby so it's twice as hard around here. So, I have been feeling rather mellow and pondering a lot of things lately....

We are getting very excited about our trip - less than two weeks! This weekend is full of trip preparations because next weekend Jeff's dad is coming to visit and bringing his girlfriend. Then we leave the following Friday. So, today and tomorrow will be a lot of errands. We already went out to Costco this morning - we bought a portable DVD player and then we went to buy Jeff some clothes. Men's clothes are so expensive! Jeff bought me a new ring for our vow renewal ceremony - I picked it up yesterday and it's not sized right so I am taking it back. When I picked it up I said it was too tight, but decided to give it a day or so to see if my hands were just swelled, but today I am convinced that I won't be happy unless I have it resized again. I am also in search of a pair of black capri pants and can't seem to find any I like.

Thin - Thanks for letting us know about Syn. I was wondering why she hadn't popped in here. I hope she is feeling better soon!

Sorry, no personals for now....I think I am going to run back to the mall before I dig into some work around here. DH is off washing his car - I swear, since he got his new Durango he takes better care of that car than me! Well, not really, but I wish he'd tend to other things around the house!!!

I'll check back in with you gals later!

Hugs!
Barb

Thumbs up

I went out to do my usual - rake, mow, haul etc at 8:30am and just came in because it "pretended" it was going to rain.

Now I have showered so I am NOT going back out.

How is everyone today?

It has been quiet here - I hate to even mention it because it is nice to be able to keep up. Sometimes there is so much posting I get behind by two threads in one day!

I haven't eaten yet but don't feel like cooking. Guess I will go and read until I get the urge to cook.
