300+ Chat Thread June 2017
WELCOME!!
We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support, inspiration, and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs. We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't. We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us! |
Feeling a little lonely on my journey and just kind of blah. Worried about losing my focus.
How is everyone else doing? |
I hear you Ubee
Im rewarding myself for each pound lost.....that's helping me stay focused |
Good idea sweetcakes.
Mind if I ask what kind of rewards? |
GOOD MORNING :)
Just wanted to introduce myself,,, My name is Holly,,,I am 52 years old, and I currently weigh 292.8 lbs,,,,,when I started my diet 3 weeks ago, I weighed 301.2 I have NEVER in my LIFE weighed that much,,,,,sigh. I do know I have to change it,,,,,,I have osteoarthritis, bone on bone, in both knees,,,,,,,I need knee replacements, but frankly, I don't want to weigh 300 lbs when I have them,,,,,,it will make my recovery SO much harder,,, My biggest challenge is water weight gain,,,,,it fluctuates like crazy,,,,,,usually, the weight I can be the most sure about is Monday AM,,, I spend all week at work sitting on my butt, with my feet getting more and more swollen,,,,I take water pills, but what usually works the best to get rid of it is running around like crazy on the weekends,,,,,Monday mornings my water weight gain is at its lowest,,, I know it's temporary,,,,but it's frustrating to be one weight on Monday morning and by Friday weigh 5 lbs more,,,,,,even though I have counted every single calorie. Anyway,,,,,,,that's my biggest challenge,,,, Just a bit about me,,,I have 3 kids, 5 grand kids, I make handmade cards when I am not working for The Mouse (I work in reservations for Disney) which I absolutely ADORE. I go to Disney as often as I can,,,,,,,,and I have to use a scooter due to my osteoarthritis,,,,,,,,which is totally embarrassing,,,another reason I'd like to lose weight and get new knees,,,, My biggest question,,,,,HOW ON EARTH did I let it get this bad??? |

I get one strawberry shortcake character for each pound I lose I have two more that aren't in this photo.
Makes me feel good to see them everyday, keeps me engaged |
Thanks for getting back to me sweetcakes. I think I do need something visual to encourage me. Also to remind me of how far I have come.
Welcome Holly. Congratulations on your loss and taking charge of your health. I weigh daily but many weigh one a week and some once a month. Since you know Monday is best why not just weigh then and avoid all the misery? Anyhow glad to have you join us. |
Hello Everyone.... very slow progress here just now, but I am working hard to not let it bring me down. I need to go back to lower calories tomorrow, and working my butt off in the gym. I recently had the steroids in my arm and that held me back and I lost my gym partner for a bit... then I was in Germany. I have 3 full weeks before my best friends wedding... and I would really like to be able to say I was in the mid 260's so that I can actually say goodbye to the 270's for good... instead of just getting in and then back out just as quick.
Well Here goes another week... |
Nice to see you again Scotsgal. I know you are going through a frustrating time right now but I just want you to know I find you very inspiring.
Steroids can cause a stall but it will eventually give and down you will go. Just remember that big table of fat and how far you have come. As for me I am making progress in my mind. I am worth this. It is OK to take care of myself. It is OK for me to have nice things. I can take care of myself and still be a good person, it does not make me selfish. Now I know we all know this but it finally feels true. |
good morning all... time to hit the floor running and get back in the groove... Intermittent Fasting here I come...
I hope everyone is doing good... I will be checking in here much more than I have in the past... I got to get going... hoping to start a new job in August! so ready!!! I hope everyone has a wonderful On Plan day!!! |
Welcome back Pam!
|
I enjoyed myself at our yearly town block party. I ate way to much vendor food and drank too much...but on the plus side i hit 10,000 steps each day. That is something I've never done since I get my fitbit. Yes I gained back some weight but I'm back to my diet and just quietly moving forward. My best friend came to town and even commented that I looked great so that really helped with my moral.
|
That is two great NSVs Ruby... anytime anyone notices my efforts it really makes me feel good... and making 10,000 is great too!!!
I have thought for a long time as long as you get back to it you are doing good... this life is learning about what works for each of us and getting back up doing a little better each time we fall... at least I know it is that way for me!!! Hope everyone has a great day!!! |
Ruby one of the things I noticed is that you said you enjoyed yourself. That is so important and also I notice when I have that attitude it is so much easier to get right back on plan. We need to enjoy ourselves and sometimes that involves food. It is a great learning opportunity.
Hi back at you Pam and to everyone else! |
That is soooo right! Life is not very fun unless you enjoy yourself...
So I have been working on this IF for a few days now (almost a week) and it seems my weight is not going to budge... Perhaps I need to not weigh daily... it has not gone up or down one bit... I like to weigh on Fridays so I think I will weigh tomorrow and not again until next week... I hope you all have a wonderful day!!! |
I have discovered while going to rummage sales that there are many more options available at my smaller than usual size.
Anyone else have any NSV to share? |
Ubee I love rummage sales, goodwill, thrift stores just for that reason... and a lot of time I find things that I could not find in a regular store if I were looking for it... maybe I am always a step behind the current style... LOL
I have an SV... the scale started down... only 1.1 pounds but I will take it... I hope everyone has a wonderful OP day!!! |
Hi, just wanted to introduce myself. I've been on my diet for about 2 weeks and starting to lose motivation again. Thought that being on here would help motivate me, seeing everybody else doing so well!
I also love rummage sales ... though I don't find clothes that are my size too often, which is unfortunate. |
Welcome braleri!
Congratulations on sticking it out for two weeks. Are you using a plan that you will be able to do long term? Please do stick around and become one of our community. |
Welcome braleri... so glad to have you here... I look forward to getting to know more about you!!!

Hello there! I'm new to the forum and on a weight loss journey (for probably the 3rd time in my life... maybe it'll stick this time around). I lost a nice chunk of weight a few years ago while I was pursuing my bachelor's degree (got down to about 250), but after I graduated and headed to graduate school, I start gaining weight again because pretty much all I did was sit and read! I puffed up to 330, the most I have ever weighed (actually, anything over 295 was more than I ever weighed). I started dieting earlier this year and the weight started to come off with good momentum... but then spring break happened and I fell off the diet wagon for a bit, but thankfully I didn't gain. Now I'm back on track and I also bought myself a fitbit to help me track my activity and calories. Since getting my fitbit about a week ago, I've lost 2 pounds, so I'm quite happy! It's actually been extremely good for me. I've been hitting 10,000 steps or more almost every day (and today I smashed my goal by getting 19,000 steps in by going for a hike). Before, I was probably getting 5,000 - 6,000. Now when I get home and see that I need 4,000 more steps, I take the dog for a nice long walk and pop on my dancing game.
My ultimate goal right now is to reach 195 - that's one pound less than my lowest weight in high school. Once I get there, I'll decide what to do next. My weight loss journey, while certainly about losing weight, is really more about getting fit. When I was around 200 pounds or even 230 pounds, I could still hike, bike, kayak, etc. However, now I'm too heavy for my kayak and bike (although I still ride the bike and hope for the best), and hiking is really difficult if there are any hills. Coincidentally, I moved to a very mountainous region for graduate school, so most hikes have long, steep inclines! I want to be able to do all of the outdoor activities I love. Most of all, I want to be able to hike up South Sister, one of the tallest mountains in my state (Oregon). There is a trail all the way to the summit (over 10,000 feet high) that doesn't require climbing gear and I want to do it! It's actually not an incredibly long hike (about 6 miles each way), but it's steep. |
Hi all
I've been busy celebrating my birthday 41 on the first Trying to keep on track Need to drink more water as when I don't my body holds onto it Spent today baking And icing and ooh 😲 there was some tasting done too Welcome Orion Nebula sounds like you have this under control All the best with your getting to your goal Nsvs ... last Friday at work because I've lost almost 60 kg or 130 ish pounds had a lady at work not recognise me !!! 😂 😊 |
Welcome Orion!
I love your mountain climbing goal. Happy Birthday Karen! Great NSV! Today I weighed in at 248. I have lost all the weight I regained. I am happy I never gained it all back and look at it as a small victory. |
Hi, thanks for the welcome.
Ya, I have a meal plan and stuff from my doctor. When I started it 2 years ago I lost like 50lbs, but then gained it back. But I am starting again and I don't want to give up this time:carrot: |
welcome Orion... it sounds like you stay busy hiking... I envy you that you live in an area that has a lot of places to hike... but right now I do good to 'hike' around the block...
Ubee... CONGRATULATIONS on making it back down where you were headed... I know you will get even farther and to goal... I still want to make it to OMAD... but for now just doing a 4-5 hour window... I have breakfast at the beginning of the window and then lunch at the end of the window... Karen... that is a great NSV... to not have someone recognize you... I love it... Braleri... hang in there... I am right there with you... just getting my fitness legs back under me a little at a time... Yesterday I had a great day eating wise... I cooked a crock pot of veggies and chicken... today will be more of that... I think for dinner I will add asparagus to the menu since I bought some when I went to the store... yum... the crock pot is definitely my friend!!! I hope everyone has a great OP day!!! |
Thanks for the welcome! There are many great places to hike nearby, but the downside is that most trails draw crowds, especially on the weekends. People love the outdoors here in Oregon, and there are lots of tourists, too. Sometimes its frustrating because 1) I get embarrassed when I have to take a break on hills, and 2) I enjoy the peace and quiet of the forest and many people like to yell and talk loudly or blast music. BUT a noisy hike is better than no hike! Although I did manage to stumble across a trail with low usage. There was an old toll road for wagons in the 19th century and early 20th century that went from a town just about on the eastern edge of the Cascades to the city I live in down in the valley. Much of the old wagon road is now part of a trail system, and we went hiking along a fairly easy 3 mile section with relatively short inclines. It led to a nice waterfall and swimming spot, which is why I thought it might be crowded, but it turns out there's a campground across the river, so everyone just drives there and gets out to see the falls instead of doing the hike. Fine by me!
|
Orion... that sounds like such a nice trail... I would not be thrilled on trails where people blast music... like you, I prefer the sounds of nature and seeing the awe of the mountains and outdoors... how cool that it has the history to go with it... NICE!!!

I have had the plateau of all plateau's lately. I spent all of April and May losing and gaining the same 4 pounds. Talk about discouraging. I didn't change what I ate at all and I have been very active, but nothing would budge. We finally took a trip about a week and a half ago to look for a house in the area where we're going to be relocating. While we were there, I kind of went crazy and splurged. I ate a chocolate chip waffle for breakfast every day, ate my first candybar (turtles) in 10 months, had jellybelly beans. Basically I paid no attention to what I was eating at all. By the time I got home I had gained 4 pounds, but was ready to jump back into my routine. Within less than a week I had gone from 247 to 235 and finally broken through the 243 that I had been stuck at for SO LONG. Maybe my body was just tired of the same ol' same ol' I've got no answers, but I can't complain either.
I'm hoping once we get our move completed and get settled in the new house/area that I can spend more time on here catching up. Right now I barely have time to hop on and update my weight for the summer challenge and read everyones posts to see how they're doing. Hope everyone is doing good and welcome to all the new members! |
living to lose, things like that have me curious about calorie cycling. I don't know much about it and someday I may do more research.
I am back from my family wedding/vacation. I am up 4 pounds and completely fine with it. I was so grateful that I had lost weight this past half year. I was able to wear nicer clothes and feel good in them. I had more confidence which made this occasion even better. Best of all I could eat with everyone else guilt free and enjoy it all. I am happy to start back on plan today and so glad to have all of you here to give and get support. |
Living to lose.... congrats on breaking through that plateau.... that is awesome.... I would have been very discouraged by that situation.... I am glad you made it through... congrats also on a new place that sounds really awesome.... I love Colorado and hope to someday make it my home.... for right now I have to stay in Texas and the heat....
Ubee so glad you got to enjoy yourself and not worry about what you ate.... that is the best part.... I have aspirations to do the same.... I am working at it daily.... it just seems that it is taking me a while to get adjusted.... but I will get there.... |
Ladies I'd like to join your group. Like some of you I lost and gained back. I had a Lap Band in 2007, lost 100 lbs., kept it off for a while and have seen it gained back in the last few years. So last week I was 308lbs and started all over again. Today I'm 299.6. YEAH!!
I live in Florida with my husband. have 4 grown kids and 2 grands. My goal is to be well under 200lbs by the time I am 60 which is at the end of next year. I don't feel almost 60, I feel 40ish. It would be a great privilege to join you and look forward to getting to knw each of you. Anniemaxx |
Welcome, Annie... so glad to have a new face in the group!!! I think you will find we have a good and supportive group here... if you have any questions just ask... oh and continue to share your victories whether on the scale or off....
Congrats on your great first week... I think you have a good goal... to be below 200 by the end of next year.... My goal is to lose about 10 pounds a month until I lose it all.... that might be a tall order but I hope not too tall... LOL |
Welcome Annie! That is a great first week. What is your plan of action?
Pam, glad you are hanging in there while you are adjusting and finding your way. Starting to feel like I am getting my mojo back after coming back from vacation. Hope it is real and lasts. How is everyone else doing? |
action plan
My plan is to attack some habits that may seem small to others but have definitely made a huge impact on my weight gain.
#1 No more driving thru Starbucks and DD #2 No eating in the car (I bought a small cooler for the car and stocked water and zero vitamin water) #3 Joined this support group :dizzy: #4 bought scales that have an app to track weight and also I can manually add blood pressure readings #5 Swimming circles in my pool (been raining most every day) #6 keeping track of EVERYTHING I eat on Fitday #7 getting husband on board to support me (he needs to lose 35 lbs.) Please share with me any hints that have helped anyone in the group. Ann |
thanks for the welcome. When I was looking at this website the last time I just kind of Lurked. This time I really want to get to know other people facing the same challenge.
Ann |
Ann, that looks like a strong plan.
I feel that the support here is a huge factor in my success so far. No where else can I learn from a group who share many of the same struggles. Their insight and support are invaluable. Glad to see you back so soon! |
Annie please join our exercise thread...we would love to have you
|
Annie - that is a great plan... I am fortunate that there are not drive-throughs around close like for Starbucks or DD. The closest drive-through is at least 10 miles so it's not around the block easy. I need to make a plan of action like you. Thanks for being a leader. I have always heard that it is better if you can write it down. It seems to make you commit more to the plan.
today has been so-so... I am looking forward to tomorrow... going to the Dr. for blood work and I am anxious to see how that is... Hope everyone has had a great day! |
I decided to follow Annie's lead and write down my Plan of Action. Now I am going to post it here.
1. Walk 6 days/ week. (I am not putting a distance here because I am building stamina right now) 2. Drink 100+ oz. of water per day. 3. Stay busy, no sitting for extended periods. 4. Track weight daily. 5. Track ALL food in LoseIt. 6. Post to support group 4-5X per week. 7. Take vitamins daily. 8. Sleep 8 hours per night. (this is one of the hardest things for me) |
Ann, I have been to DD one time. I know it would be a total downfall for me if I ever walked through those doors again. That is such a good plan. Eating in the car is another, I try to tell myself that I never see a thin person doing that.
Pam, I like your list also. What are your plans for staying busy? As for your sleep, is it hard for you to fall asleep or stay asleep? Are you just not getting to bed early enough? I am so happy to see the 300+ chat come back to life and be more active. Today I saw 247.8 on the scale. I have not been under 248 since 2003. I stood there for quite a while and let it sink in. We are going to do this ladies! We just have to be patient and not give up. |
