Well done on your loss so far!

I quit soda a few months ago and don't drink coffee or tea so I know what you mean about what else to drink. I have to say now I don't even contemplate it. It feels like what a non-smoker thinks when they look at a pack of cigarettes, zero desire to have one, so keep going and you will get there.

What I drink now:
- water plain
- sparkling water
- juice (only freshly juiced at home, with veg)
- I have a big jug of water in my fridge and put in either cut up oranges/lemon/lime or mint. I also sometimes drop in lemongrass.
- occasionally I make a pot of herbal tea and put that in the fridge.
- if I'm out my go to is sparkling water or a fresh lime soda with no sugar.

I'm sure others have other drink options for you, my suggestion is take it a day at a time and congratulate yourself in each success.

I started with a lot of flavor drink options but now mainly just drink water or sparkling water.

The first two weeks the lack of caffeine was horrible but I've even been overseas and coped with jet lag without caffeine and it was fine. Which really surprised me.

Hope that helps!

Prior to joining Weight Watchers I would drink tons of sweet iced tea, now I have been drinking more water but I can not drink water plain so I have been adding crystal light to it, they have some pretty good flavors out there and it helps me get all my water intake in without all the sugar from the iced tea. The other day at Walmart I seen they had near the Crystal Light some powdered sugar free Hawaian Punch powder to add to your water and it was delicious, so maybe you can try some of those it has made a big difference in cutting out all the sugar and me getting all my water in for sure.. Hope this helps and good luck... I am diabetic so can no longer have the sugar myself, hope they can figure out if you have it or not, I remember the extreme thirst that you mentioned as well as the prolonged healing.. Good Luck...

Hi Princess_kyn , you remind me of myself, I used to be a soda junkie, but now I haven't had any in over a year. I don't drink sweetened drinks hardly at all, I pretty much just want water. I was originally 350 lbs. a few years ago, and my best explanation to how I achieved my once "low" weight of 305-310 without dieting (I didn't really begin & stick to a program until this year) was simply cutting out sugared drinks, namely soda.

We're all different, but I am a big fan of eating my calories, if I am going to gain weight, I'd rather it be from food than drink, that helped me w/my decision. I also have PCOS and soda is like poison to anyone w/PCOS, insulin-resistance, diabetes, etc. it just isn't worth it.

There is a great video I'd love for anyone w/this issue (soda-addiction ) to watch on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4-Xztw7tOY << it is a documentary (not boring at all) about the " The Men who made us fat" there is also one called "The Men Who Made Us Thin" it is all very interesting and helps us understand the effect soda/high fructose corn syrup/artificial sweeteners have on us. Knowing what it is doing in our bodies makes it less appetizing.

I'd love to add you on MFP as well (my screenname is candidcamster ) , congratulations on your 5-pound loss, every pound loss is moving you closer to your goal, and making you just that much healthier. I wish you all the success on your journey! <3

Hi Kyn,
I'm new to this forum also. I just wanted to say, that I understand exactly what you're going through with the swelling in your legs. I've been battling massive swelling in my legs for the past 6 years. I don't want to be negative about that swelling, but I was hospitalized twice in the last 5 years with severe cellulitis infections in my legs that is caused by the swelling. Compression stalkings do help with the swelling, and cardio exercise like walking or the elliptical really help as it stimulates blood flow to your extremities.

As for your question on what you could drink instead of soda, my family and I all drink tea now. My mother and sister are both allergic to coffee so that wasn't even an option. To prevent tea or iced tea from being unhealthy (i.e. having sugar) we use the sweetener Stevia as it isn't sugar and isn't artificial like Splenda. If you find a black tea that you like you can chill it, sweeten it, and then pour it over ice for iced tea in the place of soda.

If you don't want to/can't make the tea yourself, I've found that the convenience stores attached to gas stations have good unsweetened teas that you could add your own sweetener to. A gas station near my house has an amazing Mango Black Tea that I like to get at least once a week.

On a side note I would like to say that I found in my ups and downs dealing with pre-diabetic and sometimes almost diabetic diagnoses from the doctors that there has only been one way for me to prevent a diabetes diagnosis. The one way that I found that brings my blood sugars in line, to the point I'm not considered diabetic or pre-diabetic, is to limit my carbohydrate consumption. I don't follow a specific diet like Atkins, but I do limit my carbs to 100-120g per day.

I hope this is a help to you.

Everyone else has pretty much answered your question, but as far as the trackers... I think there is a minimum number of days or posts you make before you can get one. If that is not the case, or you just want to try it, go to the top where it says user CP. Click it and f you go click edit signature, which is on the left side, you should be able to see a sample one at the top. If you click on it it will take you to where you can customize one of your own.

Crystal light lemon iced tea really helped me quit soda! It was really hard for me to quit as well and i used to drink soda daily.i eventually gave up the crystal light as well. Now I stick to water with added lemon/cucumber/mint or smoothies and sometimes fruit juice.
