300+ Chat Thread: September 2013
WELCOME!! We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support, inspiration, and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs. We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't. We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us! |
September????? What happened to August? Seriously, the older I get the faster the time whizzes by.
I've been doing Atkins for 2 days now, and have been able to keep the sugar/carb cravings under control. It's kind of a shock to see the big (for me) increase in calories as I'm still tracking what I eat on MFP. But, I'm losing a little each day, and want to shoot for getting back to 329 by the end of the month. That will be 11 pounds this month which may be pushing it a little, but I figure that going extreme low carb will rev things up at first. Going up to the grands today -- everyone heads back to school in a couple of days, so this is the last of the free weekends for a while. |
You Go Betsy... I admire you for doing Adkins... I am cheering for you!!!
sometimes you just gotta shock that system... |
Thanks, Pam. I know that low carb works for me, but need to get my mind set on significantly reducing my carb intake.......on a permanent basis!
|
counting carbs works well for me also but dang its hard. I am watching my calories right now only. I had teeth pulled last week and meat isnt easy right now
|
I know it must be hard to be tracking and seeing those calories higher than you expected... but your carbs being so low and you see a loss...
I could see it really messing with my mind... LOL |
Great day yesterday! did lots of deep cleaning, most cant be seen by others but I know its done and in order.
The bulk of my calories were at dinner but I feel ok about that. I was under my 1200. I got lots of exercise cleaning and I also got all my water in. My scales are at 235 but I know they will jump a bit when I get off the steriod. I took my last one today. I think they cause me to lose alot of fluid when Im taking them. Well have a great day everyone |
I feel like I waited all year for September and now that it's here it already feels like it's flying by. Geez. I really wanted to be at a 50lb loss by the end of August, but the scale is not cooperating. Blargh.
But hey, my wedding anniversary is this month, and no matter what I'll be 48lbs thinner this year than I was last year. So whoo hoo!! |
Sounds as though all of us are on a roll right now -- good for us!
Dgramie -- hope you're recovered from the dental work. Hate going to the dentist, but definitely one of those things that has to be done. I'm in the midst of cleaning my house, too, but not sure I would call it a deep cleaning. Pam -- My calorie count has gotten back into my comfort range as I'm trying to focus on eating more lean protein as opposed to using this as an excuse to eat steak every day along with bacon and sausage and deli meats. I've been trying to do Induction, but I'm probably closer to Phase I......just no way I can keep it under 20g of carbs although I'm not doing net carbs which with all these veggies I probably should be! 2fat2jump -- Wow! I am so glad that you realize that you've done a great job in getting 48 pounds off. Yes, it would have been nice to hit the 50 pound mark, but celebrating your anniversary and your weight loss for the last year will make September a special month. Off to the gym. |
betsy - still have a tooth that doesnt feel right and the gum behind it is inflamed. Guess I will see what they think tomorrow when i go back. JOY...
ump- way to go on 48lbs ...woohoo pj_ hi!! |
scale hasn't moved in almost a month. august was one of the worst months ever. I'm back in the full swing of school, though, and will have a lot of choices to make because I have an hour 45 minute break in between my last two classes. I'm hoping that I won't be an idiot like today and go for the fast food option.
what are some easy lunches to bring to school? I will not have access to a microwave. |
Boy, you can really tell that the equinox is just around the corner -- sun sets so much earlier and rises so much later. Not sure I'm ready for winter yet.
Dgramie -- sorry you're having trouble with one of your teeth still. UGH! Wheezypi -- Sounds like you're back in the whirlwind of school. You asked about lunch ideas without having a microwave. Yogurt, cut up veggies, fruit (like apples, bananas, etc.) that are easily transportable, nuts, power bars (low cal/low carb) -- anything that can be grabbed and easily packed for the day. If you have some place to store a small thermal bag, pack a sandwich made either with low carb bread or else as a wrap made with lettuce leaves. The hard part is getting into the habit of packing your lunch the night before. Since you have so much time, could you take a walk then to get in your exercise for the day? That will cut down on the time available to run out for fast food. Or, if you go the fast food route, get one of the salads and keep a bottle of WF dressing in your purse or book bag. Hope that helps. I seem to be in the midst of a big whoosh -- which as I remember is normal when starting Atkins. I remember when I gained these 10 pounds over the span of a weekend, that someone here on 3FC very nicely told me not to worry because it had to be mainly water and would come quickly off. Instead I gained 5 more, but now a month later, I'm finally having the whoosh from that first 10 pounds. Talk about delayed whoosing. ;) |
Quote:
Second, for school grab apples, and peanut butter to spread on the apple or other fruit. You could take turkey wraps (if you don't mind using a lunch box with a cold pack). Pack some yogurt (as suggested). If you have to get fast food, remember you can pre-plan which meal item to get. Look up all nutritional information online before choosing! I know I squeezed KFC in with their snack bites for lunch and still stayed under my recommend caloric intake. @ Betsy - yay! Always good to see the 'whoosh' :cheer: Sad to see it is September, and I am not under 300 yet. I am sitting at 300.7 (weighed in this morning...). I was on a good whoosh and now I have slowed down. Ah well! |
Betsy, you're right. I noticed the sun was just about down at 8pm. It'll almost be time to fall back soon. Crazy
Wheezy pi, August sucked for me too. My body has just not been cooperating lately and it is P#***ing me off! Ahhhhh! No great lunch ideas from me. Hard boiled eggs are my fav, but they can smell sometimes. I usually just do salads. Pinterest probably has a lot of ideas. Heather, I'd be freaking out if I was that close to Twoderville! I can't wait to celebrate with you! Whoo hoo! Tomorrow is my official weigh-in day for the week, but I don't think it's going to be very promising. I haven't had a day when I went over my calories in weeks and I've been exercising like a machine. The scale just doesn't want to give it to me. Ah, well. Hoping for the best, anticipating the worst. Sitting here drinking herbal tea trying to be good tonight. :) |
Betsy - it sounds like you are doing great regardless... just hang in there...
Wheezy - I just went through that same thing and right before my doctor visit I dropped a little then even another pound the day after... so it will happen 2fat2jump - you may not have made 50 lost but you got pretty close... and you are right you made changes and lost since last year at this time... I am proud of you... pat yourself on the back... |
My daughter carries string cheese in her lunch along with a serving of nuts.
well my dentist thinks my gum is just inflamed and said to come back if its not better in 10 days. scales are down again today...woohoo |
Raining here today, and I do so hope that we're not starting the rainy season here extra early this year!
Heather -- you are so close to Twoderville and it will happen. And you'll be an inspiration to the rest of us to keep on keeping on. Just promise you'll still post on this thread! 2fat2jump -- Hopefully the weigh in went better than you're thinking it might. It's so hard to stay on plan, exercise, and not feel rewarded for the efforts. I admire your dedication with sticking with it. Dgramie -- Glad that your tooth is just inflamed. Did he give you any suggestions for treating it? Pam -- thanks for the kind words. The Atkins whoosh has been great this week (other than never getting too far away from a bathroom), and I now have 3 more pounds to lose and then I'll be back to where my ticker says I am. I did update my signature with one of my goals to indicate that I'd reached it twice. In doing so, I realized how slow my weight loss got beginning in May and I just lost a couple of months with the weight gain. So, hopefully I've gotten myself back in the game and will start with the losing again. I would love to lose 40 more pounds by the end of the year, but at this point I'll settle for just losing every month instead of gaining again! |
@ 2fat2jump - Hope your weigh-in was in your favor and showed a loss! I feel you on the working hard, and seeing little reward at the moment. It is so tough, just keep going. You may have hit a plateau though, so don't lose hope and fight!
@ betsy, care to send some of that rain to Nevada or the Rim fire? ;) Congratulations on also getting back to what your ticker reflects. I imagine you will surpass that in the next week or so. Keep it up! This morning, still the same. I am exhausted though. My arms hurt from the weights I lifted two days ago, and today is actually the day I do my arms! :dizzy: Hope the burn isn't too insane when I do the exercise tonight. I know I won't be making the gym because tonight is lab and lecture night in Cisco I. I still have to catch up with my lab project when I get off from work too. So I will be popping in Leslie Sansone (sp) or Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. :o The shred I can only do for a handful of minutes before the room spins and I get sick. Hope to build up to a full workout with her. |
betsy- she gave me a script for a mouth rinse but also said peroxyl from colgate that is over the counter is good. We happened to have it on hand from where hubby got dentures this summer.I had been on antibotics for a week and i think that is what really helped. I can see improvement again today.
I have 3 of my 4 grand kids today. I love them to pieces but with me having a day care with 3 kids it makes me have my hands full. Easy food is planned for today. |
Heather -- Wow! I'm impressed that when life gets in the way of going to the gym, you just do it at home. I'm not that disciplined yet with the exercise part. And, yes, I would love to send some of this rain your way. It's way too early to be starting the rainy season up here.
Dgramie -- glad that she gave you some rinses to help with that tooth as well as the antibiotics before. Your day with six kids sounds exhausting. I'd be doing easy food as well. Two more pounds off this morning. I know this is not going to continue much longer -- in fact I don't want to keep losing at this pace -- but I'd dearly love to see my weight reflect my signature weight. I have accepted that the rest of my life I'm going to have to really watch my carb intake -- I'm just too resistant to them to not do that. Off to the gym. And then I guess I'll do something at home since I can't even get down to the garden to see what's ready to be picked -- the zucchini will be the size of watermelons with all this rain! |
I really need some advice, especially from people who have been my weight/close to my weight.
I literally have watched the scale stay from anywhere from 393-388 for the past almost month at this point. I have pretty much stopped all forms of exercise since this "plateau" happened, but have continued eating on plan or under plan for the majority of it. is my plateau because of my sudden stop of exercise? or should that not matter because of how well I'm eating, I should still see something? this is beyond frustrating. like really beyond. the reason I stopped exercising was because school just got literally too much to handle, I had no choice but to focus every bit of "free" time on it. although I plan to begin exercising formally again next week (like actually going to the gym), but I have also technically upped my activity level from walking all around the school and what not. guess it's just not enough? I'm at a loss (hah, not really) and I know everyone's just going to tell me to keep going and be positive, but let's be real -- no one can always be positive. |
Wheezy- I'm not sure what plan you are doing, but maybe you should mix it up? Have a high calorie day if you doing low calorie, or a high carb day. For me, sometimes my body gets used to what I'm doing and I have to shake things up and surprise it.
Hey everyone! I haven't said hello in awhile, my daughter started preschool and it was a rough week for us all. We are trying to get adjusted to a new schedule. I hope you all are doing great! |
Wheezypi -- I agree with Workinghard to get things moving by shaking up your diet plan. I started out on IF and did gang busters. Then I got bored and started the little cheats here and there -- nothing major but those combined with eating the same things constantly really slowed the loss down. So, when I switched over to Atkins, things really started moving again. My suggestion would be to try an entirely different diet approach for a few weeks. Sometimes our bodies just need some variety to get the weight loss going again.
Workinghard -- glad you're posting and hope that this week with pre-school goes more smoothly. This is going to be chore day for me since somehow yesterday just seemed to whiz by without much getting accomplished. Going to wash the car, cut the grass, clean out the RV and assume that all of that activity will make up for not going to the gym. |
Wheezypi - stress is always a HUGE factor in plateaus/weight gain for me. Which sucks, because there's very little you can do about that. Just wanted to throw that out there, in case you have some stress-reduction options. And I feel you on the positivity, too. Sometimes it's just too hard. :) I'll be pulling for you, if that helps at all!
So I've had a little change in my world lately - after 13 years in the same (terrible!) job, I finally found a new one! I'm still very nervous, but excited. Worried about the change in my routine. Interestingly, the therapist I'd had to stop seeing due to my lack of money (huge insurance deductible!) called me right before I got the job and invited me to come back as a pro bono case. But now with the new job, I don't think I'll be able to take her up on it. I just can't go into a new job and have to take two hours (including travel time) off every week to go to the therapist. Oh well. I'm just happy about the new job! |
I'm back! And I have some serious weight to lose. Mostly water retention from hiking, but I want it gone! Betsey Congrats on all the whooshes!
Wheezy I stalled out for close to five months. Majorly discouraging. How are you calculating your intake? Are you too far down for your bmr? |
Jane -- glad you're back and am always impressed with people who actually go hiking. Hope you had a great time.
We're having a second summer here after a horrible week of rain, rain, rain last week. Up in the 80s -- one of the warmest summers we've had in a long time. Maybe I'll actually be able to get most of the yard work done that I've planned on doing! |
Scale has actually been down, back down to 388. I don't know how to calculate my BMR, I go by MyFitnessPal but I definitely don't eat 2100 calories per day like it says I should be. :/ I am actually having a REAL TOTM for the first time in months (not just depo bleeding) so I think my weight gain/stalling was from my body adjusting to having a normal cycle again. Hopefully it'll be down from here on out. I'm 5 lbs down from last week's AM weigh ins.
|
Regulating your period will really mess with your weight for a while. I lost about three pounds of water weight this morning, not that I deserved a loss. I was good until I got home from work, but then I had way too much chocolate.
I'm turning 28 in about ten days, and I'm having some blues over the wasted years. I really didn't make good use of my 20's and I regret that. So I ate the chocolate. And I regret it. |
oh man, I'm going to be closer to 30 than 20 here in a few months. I'm looking back at my teens and early 20's right now and thinking the exact same thing. I've wasted so much of my life. now I'm finally picking up the pieces. I remember thinking to myself as a teenager, man, I don't want to be this fat when I'm 21. then it turned into I don't want to be this fat when I'm 25. now it's I don't want to be this fat when I'm 30. I'm thinking finally at 30 I'll be where I want to be, and I'll be done with college. so I guess 30 will be my actual beginning to life.
|
Wheezypi and Jane -- It kind of breaks my heart to read you both say that you feel as though you've kind of wasted these years. I am not saying I don't understand that -- being in my mid 60s, I feel that I missed out on doing a whole lot of things for the last 40 years due to my weight. But were they wasted years? No. From you're posts, it obvious you're both kind people. You're both working hard to make changes in your lives. And making them in your 20s will mean that you have the opportunity to still experience many things. So, yes, it's ok to wish that you had done things differently. But wasted? No. You're both too valuable as human beings to feel that you've wasted these years.
My big news is that I got to change my ticker this morning for the first time in 2 months. I only changed it by one pound, but after the 15 pound gain, I'm beyond thrilled that I was able to turn it around. I'm really fighting the fight of nighttime snacking. I realized the other night that it's just habit as I stopped and asked myself if I was really hungry. Since the answer was no -- I had just finished dinner about 20 minutes before -- I realized it was just habit and carb cravings. So I toughed it out and about an hour later realized that the cravings had completely gone away. But, this is going to be a lifelong battle. I really admire or envy (both?) people who say that they have no trouble with their trigger foods any more. They will always be a problem for me. |
Thank you betsey!
I went to yoga last night... only three more classes until she leaves. Apparently there's another teacher in town, but I'm not sure I want to "risk it", because the one I have is just so awesome. She is making me a home practice sheet though! Down some more water weight today, 2 pounds exactly left until my last lowest weight! I'm really hoping my floor guy comes today or monday so I can do some sort of exercises in my house. I just don't have the space with all the furniture moved! |
Did you know that Monday is 150 days until Valentines? I started a challenge over in 100lb club. Here's the thread if you ladies want to give it a whirl!

Thanks, Betsey. I really appreciate your kind words. I've just been held back from so many things because of my weight that I feel like I haven't spent the first 20 years of my life the way I should've (I've literally been overweight as long as I can remember). I'm just looking forward to all the great things that will come as a result of not being so big anymore.
My only good news is that after almost 2 years of a screwed up period because of depo provera, I *FINALLY* had a normal one. Now maybe we can do some baby makin'.... probably not, kids drive me crazy :P |
Good Sunday Morning to you All...
I hope everyone has been doing well... I have not had the chance to walk the past couple of days but I will get back on that today... The really great news is that I am down about 2.5 pounds... I have still been very close to my calorie range so that is good... even without the walking... This week will be good... however, I have to eat out a couple of days because I have workshops for school... Then on Friday and Saturday I am going to a Women of Faith Conference... so that will mean more eating out... I will make sure to stay on plan as much as I can... I understand there will be some walking involved so that will help too... I promise though this will definitely be a test for me... I will Survive!!! (hey that sounds like a song!!! LOL) I hope everyone has a beautiful POP Sunday!!! :D :D :D |
Hey everyone! Thought I pop on and see how you lovely ladies are doing! I'm down two lbs this week, so I'm at 295. I will take it! That makes 70 total. I went to the doctor last week for a weight loss check up. With my PCOS, I really don't want to take medication, so I go every month and have my hormone panel done, just to make sure all is well with me. But, this month my blood pressure was really high. I normally don't have high blood pressure, the last time it was high was when I had preeclampisa when I was pregnant with my DD. So, I've been worried about it, but I really think it was most likely stress. I've been stressed out about many things and with my DD week of preschool, I was really on edge while she was in school, that she wouldn't do well. So, I'm hoping when I got back in two weeks that it will be lower.
pjvw- your my hero with your 74lbs! Hopefully, I'm right behind you! Jane-I keep telling myself that I'm going to this yoga dvd that I have. I even bought a yoga mat, to talk myself into doing it, but the mat is still in the package sadly. So, I live through your yoga! wheezy- yay for a normal period! Can you send "normal" dust my way? Bestsy- I hope you are doing marvelous! |
I got to move my ticker yesterday!!! So nice to see downward movement! I went down three pounds (back up just over one - but that's due to a day at my mom's and cookies). I'm loving my new calorie tracker and finally being back into the right amount of calories and carbs. Stall be gone!
I have to clean my house today, so frustrating when everything is out of place for renovations. My busy season at work starts Monday and lasts until about the middle of December, so it's going to be a challenge. |
Good morning ladies (I'll go with that since we don't seem to have any of the male gender on this thread).
PJVW -- Down another 2.5 pounds -- and without walking! Good for you. Hope the conference goes well for you. Workinghardatlosing -- hi back at 'ya. Sorry that your BP is high -- stress can definitely do a number on it. And congrats on being down 70 pounds. That's a major milestone. Jane -- Your ticker moved!!!! Doesn't it feel wonderful. Glad you're finding success with your new calorie counter and hope that some day the renovations are done. I did a complete home remodel one time and lived in the house for 3 months.....you have my complete sympathy! I have jury duty for the next two weeks, so I probably won't be posting much as I'll have to get up at 5:30 to get in to the city in time. UGH -- that's too early for a retiree! Poor criminals -- my first inclination will be to automatically find them guilty for making me get up so early! Also just filled out an application to adopt two dogs. I'm probably nuts, but I'm definitely ready for another dog and these two have been together all their lives. Guess I'd better get it in gear -- lots to do today so I can slip out the door in a hurry in the morning! |
Betsy - Thank you!!! I hope that jury duty goes well for you. I know it's a pain to get out of routine like that. I am proud of you on the adoption... taking on two... of course I have two but they didn't get here at the same time...
Working - You are my hero... below 300 is where I am headed as I have not been there for about 20 years... or close to it... I bet you are right on the BP and you are probably stressed out... I hope it gets better for you!!! Wheezy - glad your cycle is back to normal... in some things it is nice to be normal... lol Jane - Congrats on the ticker move!!! They really feel good... hope you get the house ready to suit you and busy season goes off without a hitch!! It's a hot one here today... I am so ready for a little bit of fall... I am off for a relaxing Sunday afternoon!!! |
I got on the scale on Sat. for the first time in over 2 weeks and I had lost 4 lbs!!! The Lose It! calorie counter seems to be working for me. :carrot:
|
Can someone tell me where to find my 3fatchicks ticker code, so I can change it?
