300+ Exercise Thread: Moving and Shaking in May
WELCOME!! to the May exercise thread! We're making exercise a habit, giving ourselves some accountability, and getting healthier in the process! In this thread, we track the number of MINUTES we exercise for the month -- whether it's walking or swimming or sweaty housework! Most of us set goals for ourselves (I personally will not exercise much without a goal). If you are a goal-setter, early in the month set your own goal! If you're just getting started, feel free to start with a smaller number of minutes (I did!), maybe just a few hundred. It seems easier for many of us to build on the habit rather than meet a very high goal right away. However, you can also just jump right in without a goal, and you can join us anytime in the month! To keep track, just add your minutes to the existing group’s minutes. If you’re new, look at what other people are doing – it’s pretty easy to figure out! To help everyone keep things straight, please note the OLD minutes and the number of NEW minutes you are adding, such as Group total ~ 500 + 50 = 550 minutes. __________________ |

Sooo, last month I managed 1710 minutes of exercise, which includes stuff like an afternoon of hiking and a good deal of yard work. Perhaps I should increase my goal for this month? From 1200 to 1400. Fingers crossed!

In addition to my swimming, I'm also going to start a workout dvd (ripped in 30), and keep going to yoga. At minimum, I would like to see 150 minutes a week.

I am shooting for 1000 minutes this month. Today, I did 60 minutes on the treadmill (snow instead of flowers for May 1) and 30 minutes weight training.

I didn't make my goal in April, but I'm happy with what I did accomplish, including trying out some new things. I'm shooting for 1000 in May.
Started off with 70 minutes today: 35 minutes walking and 35 minutes yoga. Personal: 70/1000 Group: 150 + 70 = 220 |
Since I work at a fitness studio, I workout every weekday. This month the studio will be close for three days, but I still want to workout on those days. I'm also thinking of adding Kudalini yoga on the weekends. Mondays are so HARD after a weekend of taking it easy, and I'm hoping the yoga will help me with that. I've never done yoga in the strict sense, but I do know that some of the moves are similar to those of Pilates, which I do every day. I'm looking forward to the meditative practice.
So the personal goal for the month is 1620 minutes. That's regular daily workouts plus one yoga workout per weekend and to cover on the days when the studio is closed. Shooting for an hour of exercise, six days a week. Personal: 60/1620 Group: 220 + 60 = 280 |
Man. I haven't done my weights in a while, but my evening time is taken up with yard work right now. I am going to try to get a couple of actual workouts in over the weekend. We will see. I will be working on the deck tonight, resealing it.

Walked at a local park for an hour and 20 minutes yesterday. I meant to make it an hour and got turned around... Personal: 90/1750 Group: 675 + 90 = 765 |
Yesterday: +45 minutes sealing the deck. It was actually an hour and a half but it wasn't SUPERACTIVE, just moderately active. My shoulders are sore, though. but! halving it for those reasons. I think I have it half done. Really pleased.

35 min on the elliptical -- was running late and cut the workout short, but at least I still went!

Sunday: walking in a new mountain park for about 60 minutes. Monday: 45 minutes on the trails and 30 minutes weights. Total of 135 minutes.

50 minutes walking today... got the pedometer to 7000 steps over the course of the day. Want to work my way up to 10000 by mid-summer...

Sunday I did a couple hours of yard work, but I think only about 30 minutes of it qualified as exercise.

Yesterday: I was going to do weights but I got into a panic that I'd messed something up at work, so stopped in the middle and headed back to work. then made myself do an extra 30 minutes on the treadmill after dinner while watching an old Parks and Rec episode from my DVR. I did some chunks of it at 4 mph (more of it between 3.6 and 3.8 mph).
Today: 30 minutes on the treadmill! Personal: 530/1400 Group: 2420 + 60 = 2480 |
Cardio and weight training night. OMG! I really pushed it tonight. I feel drained but so, so good now. Hoping for a good night's sleep.
