Default Anyone else have this Pet Peeve? Muscle and fat weigh the SAME!

I HATE hearing the cliche, "Don't worry because muscle weighs more than fat!"

Are you stupid? What universe do you live in? A pound is a pound is a pound.

Yes, you may not have lost body weight if you've been exercising and you've built muscle bulk...but that doesn't change the fact that if you take 1 pound of fat and 1 pound of muscle they're still a pound.

Maybe it's just me...It just annoys me when I hear that saying because it's so mathematically incorrect and misleading.

We had a thread about this recently.

I maintain that the "per unit volume" is implied.

A cubic inch of muscle weighs more than a cubic inch of fat, in the same way that a bag full of bricks weighs more than a bag full of feathers.

If you're interested in the other thread referenced:

I agree that per unit volume is implied. Saying muscle is more dense than fat removes the need to imply that. But saying muscle and fat weigh the same implies "per unit weight", so I don't personally think that's any more correct.

Weight isn't really a standardized measure anyway...it depends on the acceleration of gravity. But if someone tells you muscle weighs more, go ahead and hit them with, "No, muscle is more dense."
