Why can't they be pretty and supportive??

  • you guessed it I am talking about bras!
First who comes up with the sizing on these things?? Second why can't they come in universal sizes? Meaning a 40 d is a 40d weather it be Playtex, Bali, or Glamorise?

I have lost 47 pounds, t was definately time for new bras! I was a 44G (yeah I got a set of girls on me) So I get out the tape measure my band size is now 38 (WOOT) but my cups are only slightly loose. So I go online insearch of a pretty bra. I have always wanted to wear pretty bras! To my surprise I find a website that specializes in bras for us busty women. They have a questionaire about "the girls" Are they even, do the touch, are they perky(Yeah right, I WISH) I think it asked about 15 questions. It gives you the size bra you shold wear and makes suggestion for your girls unique personality. AND THERE ARE PRETTY BRAS! I am in heaven! I looked through the styles, and colors and PATTERNS and brands. I ordered 3. I couldn't wait for them to get here.

Yesterday the UPS man delived my package. I raced to the bedroom after work to try on my PRETTY BRAS! I ordered a 38G, decided that I would stick with the same cup since the band had decreased so much. The first one a lovely leopard rint with black lace. Band fit PERFECTLY, the cups...OMG they were WAY TOO SMALL!! Ok I have 2 more to try next one a lovely magenta underwire, seamless, smoth, perfect for under t-shirts, Band size, SPOT ON, the cups...well to say my cup runneth over is a HUGE understatement. I am feeling a bit let down at this moment. Finally my favorite a lovely light purple floral print underwire. The band seems a bit loose, maybe the cups will work...not even close. I also ordered my old tried and true playtex 18 hour, band 38g. Thankfully they fit perfectly! But they are not "Pretty bras" white, black and beige (YAWN) The girls are in the upright and locked position, so that is a plus.

I am not quite sure I can lose 47 ounds and still have the same cup size, I hope eventually they will shrink right now I would over the moon if I could wear a DD cup! Of course I still want a PRETTY bra.
  • I'm like you....I have HUGE girls LOL! My cup size hasn't changed either, even though my band size has gone down almost 3 sizes. But someone once told me that...for example.....the cup size on a smaller band-size bra (38DDD) is smaller than that same cup size on a bigger band-size bra (42DDD). In my mind the cup size should hold the same, but I guess it doesn't. I guess that kind of true because the cups on my 42DDD swallows my boobs. But on my 38DDD, my girls are definitely filling up every inch of space in that cup! lol
  • The problem for me is that the band is supposed to do most of the support work, which means i need a new bra every few inches off my abdomen. I bought a new bra last month and it's already not supportive enough... Sigh. Why do the good ones cost so much?
  • I swear by Elomi and Freya bras. The other day I was wondering why my bra kept creeping up my back lately. Then the light bulb went off - oh yeah, those 40 pounds probably changed my bra size (duh!). For now I can work with hooking it on the tighter rung, but bra shopping is in my future as well.
  • Angie mentioned cup sizing not being the same for each band size...its a scaling issue. I went from a 42 H to a 34HH....but my breasts shrunk in weight loss.....its because the cup sizes are different when you go down a band size. Sizing is also different with the European brands. Sounds like you need to go up a couple of cup sizes.

Exactly. My bust is down 9 inches yet my cup size is still a DDD, but with a 38 instead of a 42....definitely a scaling issue.
  • I really don't care what the label says as far size...as long as it fits, it doesn't pinch, and it keep the girls under control! I guess I must give up my quest for a pretty bra. <sigh>
  • avenue has pretty and supportive bras and so does lane bryant. those are the only 2 places I get my bras.
  • Right now, I'm a 42DDD, and have a hard time as well. Lane Bryant has the best I've found, and fit wonderfully, even if I have to try on several. Twice a year they have a buy 2 get 2 free sale, which I can never pass up! I'm curious what site you went to to purchase these? I'd like some more pretty ones too!
  • Everyone's different - I've actually lost around 160 lbs and I still have the same cup size - DD. It has stayed proportionate regardless of my size/weight.
  • TPA- I went to www.herroom.com

They had a HUGE selection, you also have the option of taking a survey on the "unique characterists" of your breasts, to help choose a style right for you.
  • Thanks!!!
  • I just bought 2 new pretty bras at Addition-elle. I'm not big busted but I do have a band size of 42.
