Where else could I go and know someone would know what I'm talking about? It's summer again and with the heat comes red, welted areas on my inner thighs, way up near my "area" and along my gluteal fold, the horizontal fold not the vertical one. It seems I get these from walking, possibly where my underwear rubs? It hurts like the dickens and after it happens applying ice packs is the only thing that takes the sting away. But how can I prevent it from happening? I'm walking a 10k on Saturday and would prefer not to come away from it with worse "chub rub" than I already have.
goodnuff,
What helps me is Tinactin powder. Warm weather or cold I always put some in the inside crotch area of my underwear. You can find it anywhere in the athletes foot care section. I also either spray myself with cool water after a shower if your showerhead allows or I've even taken a cool bath for relief.
I change my underwear several times a day. If I'm gonna be out and away from home I keep it in zip-loc bags in my purse. Oh and I only wear 100% cotton underwear that has cotton cloth covering the elastic around the legs.
Best of luck to you on the 10K.
Ive gotten heat rash since I was a tiny kid. I remember being 5 or 6 and just laying in bed at night and being on fire, lol... I wasn't overweight as a kid at all.. It's just genetic for me. My dad gets it something awful, too.
I generally get it on the backs of my calves, just above my knees on the tops of my thighs, my chest, and my forearms. I've never associated it with being overweight. My mom was, and never had it, and my dad isnt and always has it, lol. It's just us.
The things that help me are: Ibuprofen (to reduce inflamation from the inside out!), oatmeal baths in cool-ish water, store brand aveeno oatmeal lotion (I usually get the Target one) and patience.
Usually, I come home and lay on my bed first, turn the ceiling fan on to dry me out. The I get the area washed and cleaned and again the fan for drying. My doctor gives me a cream (Clotrimazole and Betamethasone Dipropionate) this is all one cream they mix in the pharmacy for me. Not expensive either. Put on a thin layer all over affected area. It usally clears up in a day or so, but sure feels better. Once cleared, I use a powder called Zeasorb-AF. It smells good and works really well absorbing all the sweat. My pharmasist told me of this and it is not to expensive either. I get it at the Costco pharmacy for 5.00, if they do not have it on hand, they will order it for you. Also, it does not burn as some medicated powders can. She told me where she is from, (Africa), the women tend to big large with large breast and their bellies hang low and they use this. So I tried it and have been using it ever since. Hope it helps you.
Learn is right about the undies, buy the kind that have the cloth over the leg bands, try just my size boy shorts, I think that is what they are called, they have helped me out alot.
When I first joined 3fc my first thread was about this, It was call Over 300 with issues. The women gave me so many ideas, check it out, it is an old thread, but all kinds of answers. Hope this one works for you.
Hugs love and blessings,
Ags

It's caused by a yeast infection similar in compostition to thrush. Yeast lives on our skin all our lives, but the warm and damp environment is perfect for yeast to thrive.
All us lovely large ladies know it all too well.
All the advice is correct - it will all work. If it gets really bad use the same cream you can buy for thrush....
Thanks ladies. I've tried gold bond and it doesn't always work. I'm going to try to find the zeasorb around here before Saturday and if I can't find it I'll order it from Amazon...it'll get used. I think it's mosty heat and dampness but I think my clothes rub in the wrong areas too so I'll try the boy shorts.
I knew I had read a similiar thread awhile ago, must have been yours Ags!
i get rashes being a big girl, like under my stomach or breast if i get really sweaty....the only thing i have ever had that helps..is vasoline..even a generic petroleum jelly...it will heal it if you have one in no time, so i would just spread some over the areas you are concerned about, it will keep a protective barrier so your skin doesn't rub together, i have tried powders, lotions etc....but vasoline is the only thing that has ever helped me..and my sister too so i am guessing it will help around your underwear line, keep it from rubbing....maybe try it out ahead of time, and see if it makes a difference
There is also a product called Body Glide that helps to prevent chaffing. I did a 1/2 marathon years ago and used the body glide (It looks like a stick deoderant package)on my inner thighs.
The other thing is that while I typically agree with the 100% cotton underwear, for the long walks it is actually better to wear the kind made with "Cool Max". Actually maybe Cool Max is the brand. Anyways, they are expensive but you can get larger sizes through "Junonia.com." I realize it is too late for your walk tomorrow but maybe you can get them for other walks in the future. I got the Body glide at a local "Runner's shoe store." I would think someplace like Academy or other sports stores would have it too. If you can't find it, I would definately go with the vaseline. Here is to an awesome 10K!!!
So I rubbed "soothing cream" by monistat on the touching areas and than gold bond powder, wore boy shorts, did the walk in 2hr 4 min.... no chafing. Yay!!! I'll have to lok into the cool max undies. Thanks everyone!
I was home recovering from surgery. I started to itch badly under my stomach flap and where my thighs meet my hips. Someone from another message board suggested washing with hibiclens soap. It kills whatever is growing there. I wash those areas twice a week. It cured the itch. Four months later and I'm still using it. No irritation.
My daughter actually was talking about this the other day. She is fit and in great shape and some of the girls in her athletic's class are a bit thicker and have chafing issues as well. Sports powders have always done fine for me when the heat is up up up around here in Central Texas. But. They use deodorant wherever they have sweating and rubbing issues. Under the breasts, on the thighs, etc. They put it wherever things sweat too much and rub together. It works. I put it under my breasts the other day because I hate sweating in my bra--ugh!! And it breaks me out when I do. This has worked like a charm, no redness and dampness when I take it off at the end of the day. And it's been 103 degrees here all week.
Ok so you might think that this is crazy but as Mrs.Tee said it is basically a type of yeast infection. My mother and myself used to always get these and believe it or not the trick is and it sounds crazy is YOGURT... Not the fruity sugary kind but yogurt with live cultures... It will help balance out your PH and usually will almost eliminate the problem. I eat a yogurt every day and can not tell you the last time that I have had a rash. I have huge thighs that rub together every day on the treadmill and it just keeps the rash at bay. Hope this helped....
