Talking My Special K Challenge

I am starting my Special K challenge today.. April Fool's, go figure, but the joke will be on my scale in two weeks!

I hope to stick with this for a great result at the end of two weeks. Anything I have ever done that promised big results failed to deliver. I am a firm believer that "miracle diets" don't work, so I look at the challenge as a jumping off point. Something that will inspire me to continue eating right and toning my body.

Has anyone done the 2 week challenge before? What are your thoughts/results?

Wish me luck!!

Oh man. I don't want to dissuade you from a diet you like (they all work if you like & stick to them, in the end), but dieting on Special K had three main disadvantages for me:

1) Quite expensive for foods that have better-tasting and more-filling alternatives -- especially given their sugar contents.

2) It still stunk to be stuck on a very restricted diet in terms of variety... counting calories makes me feel much less limited.

3) Special K products (or at least all the cereals and bars) are sugary and delicious. That should be a good thing. But the problem with that is... I developed serious Special K binging habits which mean I now avoid dry cereal as a "trigger food."

So the Special K challenge really didn't work for me. But that doesn't mean the cereal isn't a healthy choice. 1c Special K is still a great under-250cal breakfast option with 1c almond milk, a 0.5cup of fruit, 1 egg, and 6 oz black coffee.

A bowl of Special K left me starving 1-2 hours later. I love it but it is not worth the calories to me.

I bought a few boxes in the winter to have as change up for breakfast but found it wasnt satifying enough to hold me till lunch. I cant imagine eating it for a second meal as well. Hopefully it will work for you. It should allow your stomach to shrink if nothing else. Good luck with it and let us know how it goes. I plan to donate the cereal I bought to the church pantry.

I tried the special k diet a while ago, but I couldn't make myself stick with it. It was far to limiting for me & I gave up within a day or two. That doesn't mean it won't work for you though. My mom tried it and lost about 5lbs in two weeks, so it can work. Good luck!

I know someone who did the special k diet for over a year. After about 2/3 months of it she HATED special k. It got so bad that those meals where she should have the cereal she just skipped. She lost alot of weight, but not for good reasons.

I thought about doing it for a while but I don't enjoy cereal that much

i love special k but i have a habit of binging on it, my portion size usually ends up about twice the recommendation! but you know what, it's 2 weeks, so may be worth a shot. a lot of us have experimented with what works for us before we finally find the right thing

Thanks everyone for your comments! I was worried about the weekend, if I would be able to only eat what my Special K diet allowed. I did it Not only that but I was also very mindful of my one free meal a day. I find myself being very aware of what I am eating, and I think that’s the most important part for me. I eat the 3 meals and two snacks a day with all the fruit and veggies I what, I think that helps any possible hunger I may feel. Plus I am drinking tons of water.

It never occurred to me about the sugar content, I guess I figured it couldn't be too bad if they were promoting as a diet. I only plan to do this for the two weeks, and if the results are great, then I figured I would do it every couple of months, or if I need a good loss. I don't think I could do this for more than two weeks at a time though lol.

I will definitely keep you posted

I have never done the challenge, but I do eat Special K for breakfast a few times a week. I like the fruit and yogurt or vanilla almond varieties and sometimes I have a banana as well. I do not get hungry for several hours after eating it, so that helps.

I hope the challenge works for you!

So far so good, I've lost 3.6 the first week and I find myself hungry, but I think that is good for me lol its been so long since I've felt that. I love that I can fill up on fruits and veggies. I am definitely getting my daily servings in that way. Plus I now go for a fruit or vegetable instead of something unhealthy, like chips or sweets when I need to eat a little something. Hopefully the 2nd week will prove just as good

Second week is a little bit harder for me ... so far there has been 3 days where I didn't follow exactly, but this Thursday will be my last day of the two week, we'll see how my weigh day goes on Friday.

YaY 9lbs down! It was tough and I actually didn't follow it exactly for the second week, but if you have the will power than it works! I wouldn't suggest doing it more that the 2weeks though.
