Obgyn

  • Hi

Can anyone recommend a good OBGYN on Long Island (Nassau County) that can handle a plus size patient?? I have not been in a long time because I just feel so uncomfortable..the ill fitting gown and the size zero staff that announces your weight when on the scale!!
  • You could try this list: http://www.cat-and-dragon.com/stef/fat/ffp.html

Alternately, I got to my primary doctor by asking my gyn to recommend someone. Do you have a good enough relationship with your primary to be able to ask for a referral to someone they know wouldn't be a jerk about your weight?

Remember that when you walk into a doctor's office, you may be a patient, but you are also a customer. You can call ahead to see if they have larger gowns and also specifically say that you request that your weight be kept confidential. Your doctor and his/her nurses work for you and should respect all of your requests.
  • Thank you so much!!!
  • I work in this field (OBGYN), and it is NEVER acceptable for a nurse/medical assistant to announce a patient's weight. I write the info down in the chart and leave it at that. It is up to the provider to advise a patient on their weight.

About being weighed at the doctor's office: I never used to think my doctor needed to know my weight, but it is really important for a lot of reasons--medication doses, BMI, etc. Just think of it as another statistic your doc needs to know, like a blood pressure or a blood glucose level.
  • any luck?
I was just wondering if you had any luck finding a size friendly obgyn? I just found out I'm expecting (yay) and would really like to see a dr that will worry about my overall health, not just the number on the scale. I'm also on Long Island, NY (Nassau). Any help would be much appreciated!
  • If you're willing to commute to Staten Island my doctor is wonderful!
