So, I write for various blogs and things. I do lots of work for this one specific guy who owns a few different sites. It's usually content for random business stuff, and it makes up a good portion of my income, or it did :/
Today, he sent me an assignment about writing for some new weight loss blog he's got going, and needed ten articles about the HCG diet. I have a dietitian friend I consult for anything health related that I write, and he flipped out (I had never heard of this diet before, I thought it was human growth hormone or some other weirdness) and said it was dangerous and a lot of people have ended up in the hospital over it. Needless to say, I emailed the guy back and told him I couldn't write his articles for him unless I could include some sort of health warning about the risks.
He proceeded to call me, scream at me over the phone, telling me I'll write whatever the *&(* he wants me to write and "Fat **&#(#@ wouldn't care about health risks any way, they're fat and they'll do whatever they can to get rid of that nasty lard (tons of expletives) and they're going to die any way, so who cares." So, after I said no again, half my work has evaporated. I don't know if I should have just done the work any way or what. It's very quacky stuff and I don't want to be responsible for someone getting hurt who's just desperate to get healthy.
THEN I met some fellow for coffee off a local forum, and we were talking about my avatar (it's the same as the one on here) and he asked, "What did you do to yourself? Why did you have to make yourself so ugly?" First, I was taken aback, I thought he was talking about before. I told him everyone has problems but I was working on myself now and he's not perfect either. "No, no, I meant why did you shrink down? It's disgusting. 300lb+ women are so gorgeous and happy with themselves." "A lot of them are also pretty sick because it's unhealthy too." "Well, who cares about that, I just want to **** them. *laughter* Maybe if you gain another 50-75 pounds we can talk about it huh?" It was time for me to go. CREEP! What a **** of a day. You're either too fat or too thin and someone's going to poke you with a sharp object. I'm just left feeling nasty after today. Bleh!
I'm sorry...sounds like a really tough day. You did what so many people are unable to do. You choose morals over money. Congratulations on that! You should be very proud.
As for the guy who likes heavy woman...they are rare. Like a white moose! Consider yourself lucky for having been able to encouter one.
Haha there's liking heavy women, and then there's being crude about it I'm wishing I had the money right now, but I'm sure in the end I'll be happy not to have such craziness on my conscience. Congrats on your weight loss btw!
Wow. First off, congratulations on your impressive weight loss so far!
And even more important - congratulations on standing firm on your principles. That you lost work because of it totally sucks, especially in this economy. But anytime I am faced with something like this I remember: For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
You did the right thing. The right thing is not always the easy thing, though.
As for the other guy... well, at least he was being honest with you...
You're a person of integrity, and I'm sure that that will stand you in good stead in the long run. I'm sorry you're having to take a financial hit for it , but you're likely better off not being associated with someone like him. Perhaps this 'firing' will simply free up some time so you can pursue something more suitable.

I just want to address the coffee guy. I think having fetishes are fine, but the way he talked to you was disrespectful and nasty, in my opinion. You shouldn't have to hear things like that.
If a guy or woman has a preference that is something other than what the person they are talking to is, they can very politely convey that you're a cool person but not their "type" in a respectful manner.
EXACTLY! I'm fine that there are fetishists and admirers in the world, everyone needs somebody to love or adore them for who they are. But that was just nasty. You can be plenty honest (especially with someone you know is married and just wants a hangout buddy, not a sexual relationship with you) about your preferences without telling someone their body type is disgusting. That just blew me back, I've been working real hard this last year to NOT be crazy morbidly obese. I know most of us are told we're too fat, so being told I'm too "thin" might seem funny, but it's messed up either way. Sometimes I think people say the most messed up stuff to big ladies because they know they can get away with it. Gah it's too early to be this angry.
Sorry Zimzim I like to think we guys aren't always such jerks. It really sucks that you lost your job and got treated that way but you should be proud you can stand up for what you believe in as most people don't have that ability. I hope things improve soon.

I've known a couple of true fat admirers. That guy isn't one of them.
Initial impression from the info given by the OP is that he's the type who will gain someone's trust for a quick boink and run...and a little self-esteem destruction in the process. I've also known the attracted-enough-to-boink but not-attracted-enough-to-date guy. Those men are worthless.

Oh wow, I am so sorry about your day! I think you did the right thing by standing up to what you feel is unethical. Way to go! I hope you find a new job soon! As for the coffee guy, he was pretty rude. Glad you figured out he was a jerk earlier rather than later!
