Default Rage against the (candy) machine...

Okay gang, I know I'm new here, and I apologize in advance for the rant that it about to ensue, but I've just got to vent because this is driving me crazy. For the past week and a half I have done really well, if I do say so myself (insert patting myself on the back here). I have been drinking Slim fast for breakfast, a salad and Slim fast for lunch, various veggies / fruits for snacks thru out the day, then a reasonable dinner for supper. So far I have lost 13 lbs since 7/9 (that is the day I went to see a bariatric surgeon, but that is another story).

Now comes the sticky part (literally)...I HAVE A CANDY STORE IN MY CUBICLE AT WORK!!! Seriously!! I have a co-worker who has cancer and is having to pay some major medical bills, co-pays and gasoline getting to and from chemo and radiation. My boss is selling candy to help raise money to help her. I love my co-worker...I really really do...but this is driving me nuts!! I have Snickers bars guarding the fax machine and Reeses peanut butter cups standing centinal on top of the filing cabinet! Every time I walk into my cubicle the Kit Kats wave at me with this irritating smirk on their candy little faces. So while I am sitting here drinking Slim fast for lunch like the good dieting fat person I am, people are coming in our cubicle and buying candy bars so that they can go into chocolate bar nirvana. Tell me something...have you ever had a nirvana moment over a carrot stick? Me either! I have a very good imagination, but I can't for the life of me make that carrot taste like an Almond Joy. It ain't happenin'. And then my boss, who sits not 10 feet from me but apparently hasn't noticed the Slim Fast on my desk for days on end offers me some coconut M & M's because she "knows coconut is my favorite". I am going to hurt her. I am seriously going to wind up on the news. "Short fat white woman in Texas chews off co-worker's arm over a coconut M & M...News at 11". You heard it here first gang.

Okay, I'm better now. Still hungry...but better now.

Well...I say that when I was at your weight I would have been hungry...bored...and cranky eating only that every day of the week. I have a big bowl of candy (chocolates mainly...did I mention I am a chocoholic?) on my desk 24/7/365. Instead of focusing on what you can't eat...find more foods to incorporate into your menu that will keep you full and satisfied. Trust me, you will be able to reach your goals and more importantly sustain your loss if you do not feel deprived every day.

Good Luck!!

Eat something if you are hungry. Seriously!
One thing I promised myself when I started this was, I refuse to be hungry and I refuse to give up the things I love. I just do a little improvising.

Take that slim fast and add some sugar free almond & sugar free coconut Da Vinci's. Now, I have no idea what that would taste like, it's just a suggestion and don't hate me if you try it and don't like it.

Don't be afraid to eat.

Your post made me chuckle! You made those candy bars come alive.

The best way for me to deal with a situation like that is to think that those candy bars are other people's food. Not mine. And I'm not saying "no" to the grinning kit kats, I'm saying "yes" to me!

I ditto Heather's answer, plus to be fair to yourself, you have temptations everyday, they just don't seem so noticeable and you pass on those. If you need a balance, just donate to the fund. I work with a high school band and we have people do that, they don't want whatever we are trying to sell to raise money, like candy or cookies, so they just hand us five bucks and say, "I can't eat what you're selling but I believe in what you are doing. Here's some help for the band."
And trust me, we are just as grateful if not more so.
Candy is candy but giving is a sign of love and compassion.

It's hard, I know but I'd rather be pure in my intentions than choke down guilt, even if it does taste like chocolate.

First off, how ironic that a cancer fund raiser is driven by candy sales when sugar causes cancer cells to replicate. Sugar is horrible for cancer. Walk away from the candy, you are so much better off without it. Think of it as a personal victory.

I was also going to suggest getting Torani sugar free syrup and a personal blender and add in the Slim Fast chocolate, lots of ice, coconut and chocolate syrups. It tastes so good. I never had it with Slim Fast but with choc. Medifast shake, it honestly tastes just like an ALmond Joy, I also add in some almond syrup sometimes. Ice is the key....makes it like a frosty.

Give yourself a big sticker for resisting.

Thanks y'all for all of the great suggestions. I really do appreciate them! It really was posted to help me (a)vent and (b)laugh at the situation because that's how I handle most things. I have a quirky sense of humor most of the time, and a lot of the time people don't get it, so I was glad when you said that it gave you a chuckle, Heather! Don't get me wrong, I am having to fight the temptation every day, although I'm getting a little bit better about ignoring it. It was just when she brought in the coconut M & M's they were like mini-time bombs to my self control!

I would LOVE to find that coconut and almond syrup that you mentioned, Sidrah & Hpnodat. That does sounds like a good treat. Right now I am on a 1500 calorie diet prescribed by my doctor. Supper time is my favorite meal of the day, so I try to allow myself enough calories for supper and a treat. Yesterday I mixed some strawberries and coconut in with some sugar free cool whip. It was pretty good!

Yeah..on-line. World Mart sells them. They have them in the grocery store, too. Near tea bags and sweet and low.

If you go to the DaVinci website they have smaller bottles you can buy so you don't have to get the big ones.

If you go to Sprouts or health food stores (website, too) you can get sugar-free, calorie-free strawberry, maple, blueberry, chocolate syrups and caramel or marshmallow syrup. Add them to something for more flavor.
