Smile Ok I started to exercise Today!!!

and holy cow batman!! I thought I was gonna die. LOL I found a walking dvd that i had bought (and forgot I had) put in the dvd player this morning and started walking like the woman on the video did. (thank goodness I remembered to set the timer) I had to push myself to finish 10 minutes. At 5 minutes i was literally hurting in my legs and I was sweating. But I am proud to say I did do the 10 minutes now I just have to do that 2 more times today.
Maybe I should also find a video that doesnt go from slow to faster right away. I had a hard time keeping up but I did what I could.
Thanks for the inspiration/motivation everyone I needed it to get off my butt.

Congrats!! I am so happy for you. When I first started I thought I was going to die after 12 minutes, but now I can go for about 90 minutes a day. You'll get there, one step at a time.
Give yourself a pat on the back, you deserve it

Woo HOOOO!!! Mad props to you for getting to the starting line! You will be amazed at how quickly "just" 15 minutes turns into 15 minutes 3-4times a day, and then an hour or more at a stretch. (Just watch out for the hills...they will break your ankle, trust me! That's a bit of an inside joke...I am nursing a broken ankle from getting overzealous and trying to run down a muddy hill.) But today, just celebrate that you DID it! That's a serious victory.

Cethlinn congrats!

I remember one of my first workouts was a walk away the pounds DVD and the lady said after 20 minutes "See? Didn't that go by fast?" and I wanted to toss something at the TV. NO! No it didn't!...

Keep at it you'll be amazed at what you can soon do.

I agree with Idealmuse! I wanted to throw things at the tv also! Its not easy and im glad to hear that it gets easier because that 10 minutes felt more like 30 to me.
and..
Bo I can gaurantee you there will be NO hills in my near future as I can barely walk on flat ground (due to weak ankles that give out at any time and its not pretty seeing a 300+ pound woman hit the ground ungracefully). Im sorry about your ankle though.

You've got to start somewhere!! Don't be worried about those 15 minutes..it's 15 minutes more than you did yesterday!! A starting point is always a good thing. Congrats!

Cethlinn,

Great job on getting started. 10 minutes is exactly where I started. By the end of that I was so tired and in so much back pain I had to lie down when I was done. Just keep going on that week after week, try and shoot for an increase in duration of about 10% a week, you may find you can do more, you may find you can do less, but it adds up over time.

Walking is great exercise, but if you have issues with your ankles I'd think an exercise ball would be a good way to get started. I have never used one, but if Learn is able to use hers after nearly breaking her toe (or maybe completely breaking it) I'd think it would definitely be usable with ankle problems.

I have the same experience with one of the workout videos I use. At one point the woman states "by adding an extra move to this easy exercise..." every time I hear that I just want to scream "EASY!!!???" and flip off the TV. Granted that's about 2/3 of the way through the workout so it usually comes out as a whispered/wheezy "easy?" and still flip off the TV.

Well I got a brisk walk in while at the grocery store today. I kept up the pace and before i knew it I had been walking for 15 minutes. Now my legs hurt like **** and im tired as all get out. But I got in my time and i feel good about it.
I want to try an exercise ball and im looking into them. Im just happy to be able to move around. Later on this week we will be breaking ground on our new garden so im sure i will be burning calories that way also.

Ceth,
I'm so proud of you, what an accomplishment. Way to keep going, don't forget to add your minutes to the excercise thread.
Give yourself a pat on the back, it's well deserved.

SSkar - Leslie Sansone is the woman on the Walking for Weight Loss videos that I use, and the one that I flip off on a regular basis. I have my own apartment, but I'm pretty sure at times my neighbors wonder just what the **** I'm doing.

Cethlinn - 15 minutes is a great start, do that 5 days in the first week, then next week shoot for 17 minutes and just keep building from there. It really snowballs, trust me. I've talked to some physical trainer/exercise fanatic friends of mine and their suggestion is early on to exercise 5 days, and have 2 rest days so your muscles can recover. But if you are sore as you sound like you are, definitely take a break, that soreness is your muscles strengthening, they need the time to do that.
