WE HAVE POWER!!! It came on tonight. I am so excited!!! We also got water back today. It has been down due to problems at the pumping station. Thank God for propane heaters..gas stoves..candles! It was an adventure and I feel like we did great through it.It was alot of work!! We filled our coolers with icles which were everywhere to keep our food cold. I was able to cook and heat water for neighbors to have coffee. We had to boil water to bathe and even do dishes.
I didnt do to well with dieting..or true exercise. I havent stepped on the scales in a few days and will do that in the morning. Im sure I am up a few lbs. Not been drinking enough water either...had to conserve!
Thanks for all the thought and prayers. My kids got power back today also but my parents and hubbys family are all still without power. I can truly say I hope I never have to go thru anything like this again!!!
We are so lucky and thankful for all the crews from other states here helping us!!
Thanks Carol you are amazing!!! YOur friendship means the world to me!!
Debi - So happy for you I have missed you! Just start getting that water back into you and you will be fine! Did you have the kids in care? I imagine the schools were close so the parents were not at work. Have a good warm sleep! Not before a good hot bath!
julia_ I got a hot bath today when water came back on. I am enjoying the lights and tv. I had no kids..the county is under a state of emergency so no one was working. I am off tommorow and then will get one kid back for sure.I sure need the money. We spent so much on supplies and had to have cash to make any purchases, no checks or debits or credits. Banks should open back up tommorow.
I also am so far behind on sewing for the wedding.
I missed 3fc so much!!!!
Debi - great to see you back - I can only imagine pioneer life - don't want to go there.
I think I overdid exercise a little last night - I am creaky and have sore joints - something I have not experienced in many pounds. Hope she is nice to me tonight.
Beth - 15 pounds in 4 weeks is awesome! That's more than 3 pounds a week on average--you'll be melting away with the snow!
Kayley - 5.6 in a week Keep doin' what you're doin'!
Melissa - I know it sucks to feel like you're not getting the results you're working so hard for, but you ARE losing, and that is difficult enough in itself! I think a lot of us have been through periods where we lose little bits (or even nothing at all) for weeks on end when we're working so hard, and then suddenly there a WHOOSH of weight loss one week, like your body finally wakes up and gets with the program! I bet if you keep at it, you'll see that whoosh!
Rosie - a good doctor is soooo important. I had Kaiser Permanente prior to starting this job, so I would just be sent to whatever doc happened to be in the day of my appointment. They were always so rushed and not at all personable, and, of course, blamed everything on my weight. I'm not sure why my weight was up for discussion when I went in for an ear ache, but it was. Annoying. Now I am seeing a doc that I was referred to by a coworker (now that I have insurance that actually lets me go beyond the walls of their chop shop), and it makes a WORLD of diference! I'm not afraid to tell her my concerns, my struggles, ask questions, etc. I'm even trying a second gyn within a year because I didn't like the first one. Finding someone who actually listens and tretas you like a PERSON can be difficult, but it is so worth it! I'm so happy for you that you found one!
Carol - ugh, yeah, it was in the 60s here on Sunday, and yet it was snowing this morning when I got up and took my puppies out. But at least the winters here are nothin' compared to where I grew up (raised in northern Connecticut)!
dgramie - how long were you without power?? I'm so glad for you to have it back. Something many of us definitely take for granted on a daily basis.
As for me, I'm pretty slow at work right now, which makes me nervous because we've already had one round of layoffs, and just recently, everyone who earned $75k or more with my company in 2008 got a pay cut. I think that's the first time I've ever been happy to not make $75k! But we've all been notified that the executives will continue to "evaluate" and make adjustments where necessary. I am happy to have a job, but I will be even happier to KEEP my job! I do have some sense of security in that I am the only one at my company who does what I do, and no one else wants to do it!
I managed to drag myself out of my bed and go for a walk at 5:40am and managed to walk until 6:40. I had a flashlight to guide my way through dark patches and occasionally someone would look out their door or window to see who was walking past their house lol. It was still dark out, for most of the walk, but around 6:20 you start seeing all the morning commuters out warming up their cars, dogs being walked, so it isn't that early for all of us. I'll tell you having the iPod made it so much fun. I mean I was freezing my tushy off, but yay for music!
Today I am very sore, cramps are starting to creep in more and more, boobs are swollen to the point where I want to scream at them to STOP getting bigger lol. TOM is just around the corner I think...*kicks it* lol
Today I have to go run some errands. Got to get a few things, return yet another item. It is really frustrating to buy clothes online now. I mean I look at the size charts and I buy according to them and low and behold TOO BIG, which is a positive, but frustrating. I mean you pay for shipping and you can't get that back. Luckily I can return this particular item at a Lane Bryant store, but if I had to send it back in, I would be out the total cost of the garment just because of shipping. Meaning, I wouldn't get anything back really and would just "break even." :/ I feel like I'm loosing inches and must remeasure myself. Though right now I'm all bloated and swollen *rolls eyes* lol. I should wait then.
I hope everyone is doing well and mega supportive hugs *hugs* to everyone.
Hello all. I joined the site a while ago but this is my first time posting on the weekly thread. I was always a bit intimidated by it since it seems to move so fast, and since you all seem to know each other so well. But I thought I'd try to be brave and jump in. I went back and read some of the past ones so I won't be quite as clueless, I hope.
I've been on 3fc for a while now, mostly posting in the Atkins/Low Carb section, the 300+ threads down below this one and the 100 lb club. You all seem so kind and supportive that I'd like to try posting in the weekly thread and get to know you.
Hi, DCHound! I am in the DC area, too--hope you're staying warm! I talked to a coworker this morning who said it was snowing at her house last night but raining this morning, but at my house, it was the exact opposite! heh, I talked to my mom yesterday, and she asked if we were expecting snow. I said it changes by the minute--we are to expect anything from all rain up to 6 inches of snow
Thanks Julia, hi Jill! I had to take one of my bassets up to our vet in Ijamsville yesterday and I couldn't believe how much snow is still on the ground in Frederick County. It all melted over the weekend here in town.
When I first took the girls out to potty this morning it was raining but by the time I left for work it had turned to big flakes, which are still falling but not sticking.
Hello ladies. :]
It's another snow day in the UK and where I live, we are surrounded in thick snow, yay! The weather forecast is saying that tomorrow will be calm but it's dangerous to travel because of the ice and we will be seeing an exceptional amount of heavy snowfall on Thursday and Friday. Therefore, it looks like I won't be in school all week! :]

That is odd that you're not losing as much as you should each week, especially when you're at your heaviest. I think the recommended amount of calories for women is 1500 calories a day or something like that but because of your weight - the amount of calories you're limiting yourself to sounds reasonable enough. It could depend on the food you're eating and you're exercising so you're probably retaining water or something like that. Make sure that you drink plenty of water so your body won't need to hold on so much when you're exercising.
Don't let this get you down; you are doing so well staying on plan even though you're not seeing a good result. :]
gggirls
Aaw, thank you very much. :]
dgramie
I'm so glad that you've got the power back!
Jill
Hehe, thank you! I've lost 7 lbs in the first week but nothing in the second week but then I've lost 5 lbs and 3 lbs. :]
DCHound to the thread. We are a busy lot posting on this thread but they are a great bunch of friendly people from different parts of the world. I do hope you will enjoy it on here and find the support you need along the weight loss journey.
Jacquie668 DH is an avid fan of the ipod as well when walking. It passes away the time much quicker for him. I see your an early bird and doing your exercise. Well done you even when I could walk OK I wouldn't have had that much motivation
dgramie Welcome back after your enforce period away from us. I really don't think we appreciate the amenities we have like the basic simple thing such as electric until it is taken away from you. I would not like to ever experience what you have just gone through especially in the height of winter. Enjoy your baths you deserve them.
CatherineM It is horrible living with the threat of will this injury put me in a wheelchair especially if you have had a period of time in one before. Take things steady and easy. Don't run before you can walk but you seem to being careful and mindful of not re-injuring yourself.
Rosie I am so glad you have a lovely doctor who sees the person and not the weight. I had one doctor well me the symptoms I was experiencing was due to my weight and packed me off to see a dietitian. I made another appointment with the other doctor who was wonderful he never once said it was because I was "fat". He believed me did some simple neurological tests like walk on that line. (of course I couldn't looked like I was as drunk as a skunk ) Eighteen months down the line I was diagnosed with MS.
I know that weight can cause health issues but it is not the reason for every ailment that walks through the door. They should take their time to talk to their patient and listen. Then examine them if necessary and take blood work if necessary. I can get on my soap box about this and still I hate going to the doctors as I still think they are going to think I am too big which of course I am not that much overweight now.
Vilandra485 Like Rosie said about your food I personally had very little processed food and lots of natural foods. I would try upping your calorie intake a little per day maybe by 100 calorie and see if that makes a difference after 3 or 4 weeks.
Don't think that upping your calories will make you put weight on automatically as it won't. If your body is not getting enough calories to fuel it then it thinks it is in starvation mode and stores all the fat it can. I at the beginning of my weight loss journey started off at around 2000 calories per day but with the weight I was I still had a steady loss but prior to that my calorie intake I suppose was double or even treble that.
On a positive note you have lost weight even if it maybe a little slower than you would have expected. So focus on the positives as they are so important very soon you will be in the next size down and the compliments will come flying in. Then you will be be on cloud 9 and start to feel good about what you have achieved.
jillybean720 My favourite colour is purple also hence part of my name that I use on here the other part orc is because a teacher whom was Greek used to tell us mythological stories.
Thanks for telling me about the type of WLS you have elected to have. I as you may know already have a medical background but not in the physical side of care but the mental health and I loved it. I eventually ended up working with patients whom had committed a crime punishable by law but was were mentally ill. I am not talking petty crimes I cared for but murderer and rapists.
I love the big screened televisions but it's not practical to have one in our lounge as it is not that big. Rooms here tend to be smaller than the US or Canada. I don't know if that is due to that fact our buildings are nearly always built out of bricks or stones. I have got a 32 inch in the lounge at the minute which is about the right size for the size of the room.
Baz xo My DH noticed first my weight loss and then friends. I told no one but my DH that I was embarking on my weight loss. So I think people initially were fearful to mention the weight loss to me in case I was ill. So said something to DH. I had one husband and wife who thought I must have cancer as I had lost so much . I know I must look vastly different to other people now that I have lost nigh on 9 stone. ( did make 9 stone but then got new scales and they weren't so nice to me )
I saw that on last night weather forecast Swansea was still snowing when we had stopped. We still have snow on the ground but it has melted a little through out the day. Though woke up this morning to a skating rink with all the ice. Me trying to get into the car was like Bambi on ice. If it was not for DH helping me I would have been on the deck for sure
kayleystar Love the new hair style with the pink fringe (bangs). I am not adventurous like that plain old boring The only thing I did that was frown upon at the time big time as barely anybody had it done was had my nose pierced and I have 4 earrings in each ear. No body bats an eyelid now with your nose pierce. But when I had mine done hardly anyone had it done unless you were from an Asian background and it was part of custom. I stuck it out and still have the piercing to this day. I went to the beautiful jewelry shop that sold only jewelry for the Asian taste. I adored it and found some lovely little tiny coloured stones and small gold studs. I have been again recently and I still love the shop as much and can spend an absolute fortune in there.
Sorry if I have missed to post a personal post to anyone but I am on cloud cuckoo land after having a trigeminial neuralgia attack this morning which took a fair bit of medication to get it under control. It is still painful but more bearable.
Had my oxygen treatment today and that should top me up for the week now. Saw an old black and white photograph of an oxygen chamber from 1928 it was so well kitted out inside it there was tables, armchairs, lamps, stand lamp, telephone, record player. All ours has got in are chairs from a bus , lighting and intercom and piped in radio looks so stark compared with 81 years ago. Could not see where the oxygen was though
Time to run my tummy is grumbling time for something to eat and drink. Bye and catch you all next time.
HI..It sure is nice to be able to get online!! Ihave spend the day cleaning house and getting it back in order. I am heading to the grocery store to get some healty food. Not buying much at a time as we dont trust the power to stay on long term. The winds are really bad today and tree limbs are still hanging everywhere. Its also nice to be able to do laundry.
FOr whoever asked about how long we were without power...6 days with no power and 4 days with NO water.
Someone asked about shelters...well the nearest one to us was 20 miles away and with limbs down the roads were closed. Its hard to set up shelters when the whole half of the state for the most part is without power. The redcross just made it to our town today. They are offering free meals but most got power back last night.
hugs to all.
