300+ Weekly Thread #1155
WELCOME
We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs. We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't. We know the thread can move very quickly, and that people often make "personal" remarks and keep a number of conversations going. Please feel free to contribute even if you can't make personal comments all the time. Finally, we also have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, Photos, Exercise, Info for Getting Started and more. Many of these threads are stickied at the top of the page. Please feel free to check them all out. We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us. I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out. If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for the Amazon "store" in the upper right hand corner of the screen on the PURPLE tool bar. A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site. Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker. There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!! |
Good morning all,
With the lovely weather comes gardening projects. Saturday I went out and bought dirt. Okay, good dirt, but still dirt. We also cleaned off the patio enough to put the chairs out and take the cover off the table. Sunday we started digging a new bed for the berry bushes. It wasn't as easy as we both thought. We had to lift the mulch, cut the ground cloth, and then deal with some larger than expected tree roots. And the funny part - I've been using the treadmill (consistently) since January. Even jogging a little lately. I've been lifting weights for 6 weeks (seriously). And today, after digging/working in the garden this morning - now, I have a sore knee. Not the usual walking too much one, but behind the joint. Seems quite silly, doesn't it. It does feel a little better this morning, but really, a little digging in the dirt does this? Oh, and I'm finishing up Sunday's laundry this morning. I was so beat last night that I went to bed at 10pm (and was asleep well before 11), so I just lifted the lid and put it in the dryer this morning. Good thing I at least washed it, because my workout wear was in the pile. I think I was absent towards the end of the week, but I think that was just because I got busier. Today will be the first day I try to work my regular exercise (including the pool) in with garden work as well. I know, I know, I'm pretty lucky at the moment that I'm not working a job into that as well! Debi - I'm so sorry about your husband's meds. I do hope they get it sorted out soon. Julee - sorry that the family dinner wasn't better. I don't get it that people will look at others and talk about their weight. It's almost like they don't understand that you fit into that category as well. TheWalrus - any time you're running on less sleep hunger seems to be overwhelming. Hopefully you'll get the one project finished up tomorrow and that you pushed off the other one enough to give yourself a break. You work at home (for yourself) don't you? I know from those times that giving yourself decent time off can be a problem. I always tried to overestimate time by 25% (didn't always work) but sometimes helped me not to over-commit myself. Good luck, and do try and take a full 24 to 48-hours off when you're done. Annie - good luck on the job front this week. It sounds like you have a couple of good prospects. The free use of fitness facilities sounds like a great bonus for the one. Carol - tell me about it. Gardening seems so serene, until you think of the digging, hauling, moving, etc. Debbie - winning the contest is a good thing. On the chinese, you'll likely find some decent choices, and even if you retain water for a few days, it's just water, and it's just a few days. My mother got a gift certificate for a British pub around the corner. I've looked at their menu and there's really nothing (other than perhaps a salad) that's on the decent side (without changes). I put her off for a bit, but I may just have to give in and have an 'off plan' meal with her at some point. Ratkitten - the fellow who owned this house before us was a heating/air conditioning guy. He had a bad habit of using a combination of nails and screws with different heads when doing anything. So when trying to take down some paneling he installed you needed to be ready for anything. Catherine - still snowing out your way? (Okay, I know it is, but the end of the week looks better for you guys.) To anyone else I missed - a big  I only went back a couple of pages, and I think my dryer has stopped, so that removes my excuse for not going outside to work. I do hope that everyone is having a good start to the week. The sun is up here, although it's still a little cool. Really though, this is very good weather for this time of year, we really can't complain. |
Hi, all! I've been posting around 3FC, but not so much here in the 300+ section. I played with South Beach for a bit, and then I was recently diagnosed (is it a diagnosis?) with high blood pressure. It was 150/95, and I'm only 25 years old!
My doctor immediately said she couldn't give me a new prescription for my birth control pills because of my blood pressure. Umm, hello, I'm not on the pill just for birth control--I was put on it a week after my 16th birthday when I had emergency surgery to remove a 10-inch ovarian cyst (and the ovary it killed). My surgeon told me I was a "cyst farm" (they found another cyst on my other ovary that they removed during the surgery, as well as some smaller cysts starting to form) and that I was to never go off of birth control pills until I actually wanted to get pregnant. They are my cyst prevention and ovary protection medication. So after a bit of arguing with my doctor--her saying she'd rather I end up with a cyst than end up with a stroke, and me demanding there had to be a way to protect my remaining ovary--she finally gave me the option of an IUD, the Depo shot, or a pill with no estrogen. Well, I don't want an IUD since we may start thinking of trying for a family in as little as 2-3 years. I didn't want Depo because I've heard way too many horror stories about insane weight gain while on Depo. So I opted for the estrogen-less pill. So now I'm on this new pill, and I read the insert in the pack, and it says that ovarian cysts may be a side effect of using this pill. WHAT?! I can no longer use the doctor who prescribed it because she was through the HMO at my old job, so now I'm waiting until my insurance at my new job kicks in on May 1 so I can see a real doctor, someone who is willing to listen to me, work with me, and answer my questions rather than argue with me. No wonder I had high blood pressure at that appointment, huh? :dizzy: So anyway, here I am--started a new job a few weeks ago and am loving it so far. Our 2 puppies are about 9 months old now and driving us crazy as we're trying to let them stay out and use their crates less (read: we get up every morning to clean up whatever they've destroyed while we were sleeping). My parents finally sold their house in CT and moved to Va Beach, so now they're only about 3 hours away instead of 8-9. My sister has gone to court once for the child abuse case against her daughter's babysitter, and the judge found probable cause, so they will have a trial by jury around June or July (baby is doing well--got her cast off and is walking around like a normal kid now! She's about 15 months old now). Jeff and I are actually starting to think about wedding plans--we've been together for over 4 years, living together for almost 3 years, and engaged for over a year now. I'm doing the Biggest Loser Challenge here at 3FC--just signed up with my starting weight of 315. I'm hoping my competitive side will kick me into high gear! |
Good Morning all,
Debbie: That scent is called "Hello Sugar" It smells delicious. Okay it is snowing as I write this UGH! There is snow collecting on the ground and it keeps coming down. The forecast is calling for 3 days of snow then the rest of the time rain/rain/rain. At least with the rain the snow is gone and it warms up. Carol: Have fun with your pool. I bet my Pepper would have dove right into the pool too. I love dogs. Your dogs sound just like mine except Bear won't go into the water much. Debimitch: still keeping you guys in prayer. Congrats on the -2. Walrus: Hugs and take a big deep breath. Julee: Wow, sounds like your family day was.... fun? lol. Glad that you stood up for yourself though. Sharon: I think my dream job out of the 3 would be at the Salvation Army because although it is part time right now when they open the chances are it would be full time. The facility is going to be so beautiful with indoor tracks for running/walking, a couple of pools, climbing walls, a huge chappel, fitness center with tons of machines, the list goes on. I know you will find a job soon. Just remember right now you have the very best job in the world. You are a Mommy! What a joy that would be. Anne: sorry your knee is hurting. Hugs and I hope it gets better very soon. Jillybean: Welcome back. Sorry about the high blood pressure but hopefully it will serve as a wake up call to you sweetie. Good luck with the Dr. stuff. Well, I need to get my rear in gear. I already faxed over my cover letter and resume to the Salvation Army after talking to her on the phone this morning. I am going to exercise and do some chores and then at 12:30 I have to head to that testing with the county job. I hope you all have a wonderful day. Blessings, Annie |

Debi: We get tremors out here now and then as wel...a little more normal in CA of course. DH sleeps through them and it shakes me awak every time...ugh.
Just a note...FIL did not make one comment about MY weight...he was making fun of his sister and his wife! JILLY!!! My Dr. also wanted to get me fitted for an IUD as well because of being on the pill and my HBP. I have been on meds now for about 4 years. So she sent me up to talk to an OB/GYN who told me that she was INSANE for suggesting it...namely because I have been on the pill since 17 for horribly irregular, painful and debilitating periods and need to stay regular. He said an IUD would not help my periods that much, I'd still have pain and a decent amount of bleeding and that since I have never had chidlren, the risk of a perforation upon insertion was much higher and he would not feel right doing the procedure. So I am still on the pill and they agreed that diet and exercise needed to be my focus. My BP is getting more in control...and is now a lot more a product of my stress than anything. If there is any chance of you switching pills...maybe that could be an option. I am on a very low-dose pill that has worked well for me. No work today b/c of Passover. I'm thinking it's a good day for a haircut... hmmm... |
Afternoon Everyone!
Hope every one had a good weekend! I had some fun with DH we went to the Toronto Truck Show. And chinese after. So needless to say for WI today I was up 1.5 lb. But I attribute that to TOM and extra soduim eating out. Not that I ate poor choices. Did not sleep well last night so every little thing is bothering me today. Not a good day to work (babysit). Oh well they wull just have to play nicely or end up with a dose of my crankiness LOL and sit on time out. Later ladies! |
Jillybean: I didn't mean that you don't know if you are over weight. Sorry it came out that way. I meant a wake up call about health. Hugs.
|
Julee, o the woes of in-laws. It can be so hard sometimes. It sounds like you have a good enough relationship with them that you can speak your mind and their feelings won't get hurt. All in all, you survived and your kugel turned out well and people were fighting for it. Kudos to ya!
I love the songs that you sing. Some of the oldies never get old. Sharon, we're sisters-in-menopause. All the things you described have been what's going on with me too. It sucks, doesn't it? Debi, so glad to hear your hubby got the much needed sleep. Hopefully the docs will come up with a new combo that will work for him. In the meantime, you're still in my thoughts. Your earthquake even made it into our news here in Washington. Anne, you're a very busy lady!!! Sounds like you and hubby got alot done this weekend. We're still getting snow in the morning, but it's usually gone by early morn. Take care of that knee and enjoy the pool and the gardening. Jill, good to see you posting again. You've been a busy lady too from the sounds of it. Glad you love your new job and can't wait for your insurance to kick in. That person that is suppose to be a doc that your seeing, needs to review what her job is. Sheesh!! I can't believe she would rather see you get cysts. Although I'm sure a stroke wouldn't be too much fun either. I'm sure there is someone that knows how to handle this situation. In the meantime, try to be stress free and take care of yourself. Annie, I want to work at that Salvation Army place too!!! It sounds like a exercise heaven. Who could ask for anymore? I sure hope you get that one. It isn't snowing or raining here right at the moment. Just very dark and dreary. We took Sadie in to get her staples out and everything looks good. We were concerned about a lump under one of the tooth marks, but the doc seems to think it could be tissue trauma or scar tissue. So he told us to keep an eye on it for the next two weeks and if it doesn't change, then it's ok. So thank goodness this is hopefully over. I still miss Marilyn and even called the Humane Society. She's still there but people have been looking at her. I just want her to be in a home where she has people to love her, and people for her to love. Hope everyone is having a great day Debbie |

(Followed by :goodvibes) It does sound like a fabulous place, doesn't it? I hope that it all works out for you, Annie! |
Hi Peeps - another week on us - seems they are flying this year. It's been a great week and hopefully the scale will agree with the brain.
Jill - nice to see you hear. Annie - what a sweetie you are - the Salvation Army job does sound like a perfect match for you. How did the testing go? Debbie - great news on Sadie - I hope Marilyn finds a great home soon - she needs someone to love. Time to start dinner and watch em dance. Ohh someday maybe I will do that too - (note to self - add ballroom dancing to the someday list). Hugs to you all, Carol |
Well girls, I am alive.....LOL things around here have been mad.....I have pretty much stayed OP this past week. NO exercise what so ever! But managed a 4lb loss....I stayed within my calories all week even with poor choices over the weekend.
Today I have felt sluggish all day and I think it is due to the poor choices I made over the weekend. Not enough protein and ALOT of FAT grams!!! LOL but still managed to stay within my calories! I met my mother's day challange goal today with 2lbs extra lost! I find it impossible to catch up on a weeks worth of your alls chat! So I will just appologize for life getting in the way of me getting on here.....LOL ttyl BErNICE |
Hi Bernice - missed ya! How was your week back to work? Hows the new floor in the class room look? Congrats on your mother's day goal that rocks!

Hello Everyone~~
How are you all doing tonight? I'm doing okay. I have joined the 3FC Biggest Loser Challenge and figured I'd better start posting to get myself in the habit of it again. Most times I just come by and read because I don't feel like I have anything to say. Sometimes I bore myself and I don't want to inflict myself on anyone else. ;) It's nice to see that some of the same people are posting here since when I posted regularly. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who's coming "back into the fold". Hi Jill--sorry to hear that you're having some BP problems and some doctor problems. What a schmuck that lady is. So anyway, I'm back to posting. This week I'm probably not going to be doing so well on my food--although I'm NOT eating like a pig. :carrot: I'm on vacation down in Cocoa Beach, Florida. My boyfriend and I arrived here yesterday after driving all the way down from Massachusetts so I didn't do any kind of exercise yesterday. Today We walked on the beach for 2 miles. You know, I forgot how HARD it is to walk on a beach and my ankles are killing me. :D I feel good about it though. And then we went to Ron Jon's resort where our friends are staying and we swam for almost 3 hours. That includes going down the slide and stuff so it wasn't straight swimming, but still, that's a lot of activity. And while I didn't follow my low-carb diet, I did eat pretty healthy. I had bacon and eggs for breakfast with toast and fresh fruit. For lunch I had a cheeseburger with a salad, and for dinner I had a chicken breast sandwich with Swiss cheese and then some more salad. I had pretzel sticks for a snack and I only drink Diet~Coke now so I actually did okay. I'm proud of myself even though I didn't do perfect. Okay, I've got to go now. We are watching Alvin and the Chipmunks and it's making me laugh. Have a great night and I'll see you all tomorrow. Vicki |
Hi everyone,
I've been off plan for about a week. My clothes feel noticeably tighter. Today was better. I certainly am taking the zig zag approach to weight loss! Last week was a combination of a number of factors: TOM, Passover, stress, to name a few. Today I threw out all the Passover foods that throw me into a spiral of bad eating, so my house has nothing but clean, healthy, non-triggering foods. I know I need to get a grip on my emotional eating when stressed or feeling down. No time for personals, but I'm reading and thinking about you. |
Carol, wouldn't it be fun to move like that? Have you ever watched the show called "Shimmy" ? It's belly dancing. I've thought about getting up and doing it since it's on when Jim is at work, but I don't even think my hips would ever move that way!
Have a great WI tomorrow! Bernice, YAY on the 4 lbs gone!!! Vicki, good to see you again! It sounds like you are getting plenty of exercise on your vacation. I bet it's beautiful there. Have a ball and enjoy yourself. I was almost going to go walking outside, but again it started snowing/frozen rain this afternoon. Now it's sunny but still cold. It was even colder than Iceland in Seattle. Can you imagine? toodles Debbie |
HUGE NSV today!
I started on my walk outside. I went down the street, turned to go on the next street and thought to myself "I wonder if I could make it to hubby's work?" I kept going and going. I couldn't believe it! Less than 6 months ago, I was afraid to go past my street and now I'm walking out of the neighborhood! I got to hubby's work and he couldn't believe I walked. He kept asking me if someone gave me a ride. :D There are a few hills on the way, so it was a real workout even though google maps says it's only a mile. I didn't walk back though, hubby wouldn't let me. He made me drink a liter of water though :dizzy: I ended up standing and walking around more at his work though, so yay! Too bad fitday has the whole walk at 130 cals burned.. booo |
HI Ladies -- Just a quick check in. I had a LOVELY weekend.
My post sounds a lot like Vicki's because we went to FL to see DH's family and spent a lot of time at the beach. I got a little burned, but loved walking on the beach and in the water. The waves were fierce and we had to walk hard not to get pounded onto the shore! We also had a good time with DH's sister and her family whom we hadn't seen in YEARS (not since before I lost weight). It was good to connect and to relax.... |

We had a meeting today after school, it was held by just teachers the principal & asst principal stepped out of it. We are experiencing some MAJOR cuts in our county school district and we will be losing 7-9 teachers from our building alone, next year. As well as LOADS of other things......my position, for now is ok......but we are still not completely certain. The cuts are crazy and yet there is a new school opening in the fall!! So we are hoping to make some leeway with the Board about making cuts in other areas instead of where the kids will feel it most! could use some prayers for our school district! well I have to get going just wanted to comment talk to you all tomorrow Bernice |
Good morning,
sorry I didnt make it on here yesterday. We got hubbys labs back and both levels are ok. So not sure what the dr will do today. He was pretty wild again yesterday! He slept for a few hours yesterday in the basement on the couch after mowing hte yard. Its was nice and cool down there. I think he napped for about 3 hours. WE went to bed about 9 and he feel asleep pretty fast and is still sleepng at 6am. It usually takes a few days of sleep to level him back out. WE were outside yesterday afteroon on our porch and looked over and saw our first hummingbird of the season. He was at one of the feeders. We sat in the swing and saw another one come to the feeder. We usually watch them every evening. I also like to sit outside in the summer and drink my coffee and watch them in the early morning. dmpls_ welcome back ...you have been missed and i know where your coming from with not getting any exercise. I havent done any in 4 days. battle_ I am glad to see you back. I thought about you over the weekend when my scales were moving down at a fast pace after staying the same for awhile. heather_ florida sounds great..I havent been in a few years . heatherdw_ I am so proud of you hun!!! Your really doing great!! vickie_ glad your back with us. debbie, carol anne annie_ hello and hugs my friends. hugs to anyone i missed...sorry debi |
Good morning all - running late AGAIN - just wanted to post my 2.25 pounds gone forever.
Have a great day! Carol |
Good Morning all,
Debbie: Exercise heaven, lol. Ya, I guess it would be. Can't claim to get boad there for sure. The snow stopped me yesterday from going for a walk too. It was like a blizzard. I'm ready for this to stop now. lol. Carol: Woohoo to you on loosing another 2.5 pounds. That is awesome! My testing went very well. I finished first in the room which made me question myself because there was 30 people in there total and the test was 50 pages long. It wasn't timed and she said we have until 5 p.m. to finish and it was 1 p.m. when we started. I finished in 20 minutes and kind of got nervous but she called later yesterday and told me I only missed 1 on the entire thing so I was happy. They want me to come in for an interview on Monday the 28th. So, I made it to round 2 with the county. lol. I have an interview on Wednesday with the State for the College job. There are quite a few openings there right now so I may put an application in for another one this week. Bernice: Huge Congrats on loosing 4 more pounds! I will be praying for your school district for sure. Vicki: Welcome back. It is so good to see you back here. I have often wondered how you are and it is so lovely to see you are well and happy. Hugs. Battle: Hugs to you and I will be praying that you have a much better week this week. HeatherDW: I am sooooo proud of you walking to your DH work. He must be so proud too. That is amazing girl. What a great feeling you must be having that you hve come so far. Heather: Welcome home! Glad you had such a great trip! Debimitch: Hugs. Hope DH feels better very soon. How nice to have a spot you can watch the humming birds. I am thinking about putting a feeder out but I also don't want to attract yellow jackets or bees. I am allergic to them so I try to keep them away. Thank fully it isn't severe but I do experience some awful things if they sting me, my head goes numb and tongue swells. I guess that may be severe. lol. My dad has to carry the meds with him. I used to have to carry the meds for ant bites but haven't had to in years. Well, hope you all have an op, water drinking bootie moving day. Blessings all, Annie |
They are now measuring the snow here by the foot. We had a bbq just last Thursday it was so warm. My Canadian husband is so in the dog house right now. I'm just sitting here watching the snow fly past the window. The wind actually knocked over the newspaper box out front. Global warming hasn't hit here yet.

Happy Sunny Day Everyone!
Heather - great job on the walk to DH work! That is such an awesome victory! Bernice & Debi - Praying for ya both! Carol - Congrats on a happy scale reading! Annie - Congrats on getting to round #2. Mini NSV today. Girlfriend brought me a large hot chocolate to school. Thanked her, opened it then talked to much on purpose so I did have to drink all that sugar. Jumped in the truck put it in the cup holder and trashed it at home. She does not know that I am working hard on reducing my weight. Its always harder when to many people know. I gather it is a fear of failure. But anyways that sugar did not come near my lips! |
Catherine - Just put on the fire place and pretend your at an exotic swiss lodge!
|
heather dw, that is a fantastic NSV and you SHOULD be so proud of yourself. I thought it was cute how your hubby wouldn't let you walk home and made you drink the water.
Heather, so glad you had a nice weekend connecting with those you haven't seen in so long. I bet they were pleasantly surprised by seeing you again. Debi, sounds like your hubby is getting back to normal. Good news on the levels being where they should be. Aren't the hummingbirds just so cute? I love seeing they fliting about. At night we have two white owls that hang out around here. They're so pretty to watch when they're flying around. The coyotes have been back again too. Carol :woohoo: on the pounds dropping off!! Annie, so you get those awful yellow jackets too huh? They hang around our house so much and sometimes even get in the house. Last year they were coming up thru our heater. Don't ask me how they got there, but there were several. No rain or snow here for today. It's beautiful and sunny. So I'll probably walk down to the mailbox and see if my clothes I ordered are there. Still rooting for you to get the job you want. You did great on the county test. Who cares how soon you got done with it!! Catherine, man, you guys are really getting it this year. Hope it dries out before too long for you. Julia, good for you!!!!! Battle, hope you're having a better week. |
Another fly-by- what are 'yellow jackets'?

Dolfin-GREAT to see you again, your holiday sounds lovely. Did you recover well from the op? I know that you will be dropping down into the next size in no time:hug:xxxxx xxxxsharon |
Catherine: No global warming here either. lol.
Julia: Wonderful NSV. Great job detering your friend from watching you drink the hot cocoa. Debbie: ohhh. Have a nice Sunny day! I was just worried about the test because I finished it so quickly. I started to think I must have blown it. Sharon: Yellow Jackets are like wasps or Hornets kind of only smaller but pretty vicious. When they sting you, you know it. If you have any allergies to them you really know it. lol. Have fun in your writing class. I have been having such a lazy day today. I went back to bed and slept for another 3 hours! I must have needed it though. I am just going to exercise a bit off and on today then continue to have a relaxed day. I have group therapy tonight at 5:30 so that is all I have to do today. Have a great day all. Blessings, Annie |
Sharon, I'll PM you the information on ordering from the publisher. We are purposely limiting distribution. Himself is scared the boogie men will come after me again.
|
Catherine, those boogie men don't know what the 3FC-coalition can do. We are a worldwide force to be reckoned with!!! *hugs* Sorry you are dealing with more snow. ick. Despite the snow, how are you feeling? You were coming down with something last week?
Annie, I wanna go back to bed for another 3 hours! hehe. Great job on the test and 2nd interview!! Sharon, there is no time when I don't fancy chocolate... *Sigh* Doesn't even have to be blamed on hormones :) Heatherdw, that's a FABBO NSV!!! Go girl! ProfHeather, I'm glad you had a great weekend away somewhere warm!! I gotta watch that sun too. Battle, we are channeling each other, but I don't have Passover to blame. I have chucked all the bad stuff out of my house. Guess what was at work today? A retirement party complete with cake. My goal is to not have something sugary during the day (excluding natural fruits). I didn't do well today, so I'll start again from now! Dmpls, you are doing so great!! Keep up the great work :) Debmitch, hope your DH levels out soon. That's got to be stressful. w00h00 Julia on the Hot choc NSV!! Debbie, you have 2 white owls flying around? They aren't dropping little envelopes, are they? hehe. ~~~~wavies to GGG as she flies by. Drink your water!!! Well, my alter ego, BikerChick, got a new bicycle seat in yesterday. Excitedly, I went to put it on the new bike... ugh.. it's the wrong one!!! They sent the MENs! BikerChick was NOT amused. Sent off an email to the company who promptly said *I* must have ordered the wrong one. Resisting the urge to make a snarky reply, I just asked if I could exchange it and that the company might want to check their website links for errors. I got a return email sayining that the website link was indeed for the wrong item and they are sending a new seat promptly and a shipping label for the old seat. Yay! It *does* help to wait a bit so emails don't become snarky replies.. hehe. Take care and Lotsa Luv, Ratkity |
haha... I walked to hubby's work again. He looks at me and goes "so.. who gave you the ride this time? ;)" Right after that, he made me drink water again...lol
I don't think I'll do it tomorrow. I'll walk somewhere else. The ladies there today were all acting like I was going to drop (ohh... you need a cold rag or some ice. That's a far distance.. it's warm outside... you should sit). It sorta made me feel like an invalid... bah! |
Sharon, yes, all of that and more. The one that bothers me the most is the memory loss. I don't know if it's selective or not....LOL I don't really take anything for it, so I don't even know what to suggest for ya.
Annie, Enjoy your lazy day and have fun at your therapy session. I bet it's so interesting to meet all of those people that are going thru the same changes as you. Catherine, PM me too! I really want to read your story. Ratkity, awww poor Bikerchick! That sucks about the seat. No, the owls aren't dropping envelopes, LOL, just looking for mice to eat!! I transplanted the tomato plants into bigger little pots. We have about 12 of them. I don't think all of them will make it once they are planted outside, at least I hope they don't! LOL What would I do with all those tomatos??? If they do all make it, I guess I will learn to can and give them out to the neighbors. the cabbage and lettuce are taller too. Hopefully we will be able to get the outside garden ready for the plants once it warms up a little more. Our tulips are finally open too! They're so pretty. I hope to go to the tulip fields this weekend too. If ours are open, those should bet too. How many fat grams do you ladies eat a day? I've been eating around 30-45 grams a day on 1800 calories a day. I was looking around the internet last night and it says I should be eating around 50-70 grams a day. I'm guessing that is why I've got super dry skin and my hair is falling out. Here I was thinking it was due to our cruddy well water with the bleach in it. Keep movin' and groovin' Debbie p.s. I'm trying to post this but it's telling me the server is too busy so I'm hoping as I keep hitting the submit button, that it's not actually posting each time!!! |
Debbie -- Regarding fat, the "rules" I've seen range a lot, but suggest that you get from 15-35% of your calories from fat (big range, I know). Each gram of fat is 9 calories, so at 1800 calories that's 30- 70 grams. Sounds like you've been on the low end -- which could lead to the dry skin and falling out hair!!!
There are lots of ways to get "good" unsaturated fats: olive oil, olives, avocado, fish, nuts or nut butters... |
Hi ladies,
I'm having a hungry day, which is no surprise given that my body has been fed a lot of calories and junk for a full week. I've already eaten most of the day's allotment and it's only 3:30. I'll make it, but it will take a few good days to normalize. ------- Annie: When I was a student, and after when I took professional-related tests, I was always the first person done with the tests. It used to unnerve me, because I'd think for sure I must have missed the complexity of the questions or something, and did poorly. However, most of the time I did well. I'm the kind of person who either knows the answer/how to go about getting the answer, or I don't. It's either right there in front, or it's nowhere. I hope one of the county jobs come through, or another desirable job comes through. I feel very positive that something will. You are smart and a hard worker, and have a beautiful, caring way about you. Heatherdw: Look at you! Losing more lbs. and setting the world on fire with your exercise. This is what it's all about. Carol: Woo hoo girl! The scale and non-scale victories are piling on! Debbie: I don't know how many grams of fat I eat, but I am guessing it's on the higher end of the healthy range. Generally I try to get the full spectrum of nutrients in my diet. I find that a moderate amount of fat helps keep me full. DMPLS: Congrats on your loss! Rat: Why do we always seem to be on the same eating/emotions cycle! It's crazy! Oh well, I know there are lots of people I missed, but will try to catch up soon. Have a great day, everyone. |
Rat-I'm feeling better, I've gotten cranky. When I started running a fever, we got pretty scared that I'd end up back in the hospital. I was able to shake this off after about 36 hours, so I guess my immune system is working again. As soon as I get my strength back, I can go back to the pool. I got exhausted just walking in the grocery store today.

Hi Everyone,
Just an update of my latest exploits. Well, life hasn’t really been that exciting, but “exploits” sounds better than ‘usual old stuff’. We just got back yesterday from visiting my mum in the country. We spent a few days there and caught up with my brother and sister and their families as well. It was an enjoyable few days, but it is always nice to be home. We are half-way through the second week of the holidays, which means we go back to work on Monday. I am running PD for half the staff on Monday and I am still working through my presentation. This morning I get to go for an hour long ‘deluxe’ manicure. Last year I got a gift certificate from one of my student teachers for a massage and I don’t really want a massage, so was able to swap it for a manicure. This weekend we are heading down south to my nephew’s wedding, which I am hoping will be lovely. I am also hoping that the weather will warm up, because at the moment the days are a little chilly and the nights are even chillier and I have a summerish outfit chosen to wear. I don’t want to change the outfit, so fingers crossed that things will warm up nicely, just for me. I think I have found something that I can throw across my shoulders that will match the outfit if needed. I have spent a lot of my holidays organising our trip this Dec/Jan. We ended up deciding against going over to Florida, as it was going to add about $1000 each to the cost of the flights. We are not spending a week and a bit in Hawaii (mostly in Honolulu), a week in Las Vegas and a week and a half in Las Angeles/Anaheim and San Diego. We went to LA and San Diego on our last trip a few years ago, but we were a little rushed, so we decided it would be great to go back and see some of the things we missed last time. If anyone has any suggestions of things (other than the usual touristy things such as Disneyland, Universal Studios, San Diego Zoo/Animal Park, Sea World) we would love to hear about them. We have booked the flights and most of the hotels, but some hotels don’t take bookings this far ahead, so we are having trouble selecting/booking hotels in LA and San Diego. We need to keep looking for those. We are going to get a three day pass for Disneyland and a 3-in-1 pass for the parks in San Diego. We will probably also get a VIP pass for Universal Studios. Other than that, we aren’t sure what we are doing for sure. We are contemplating going for a day trip to Tijuana, Mexico and may take at least one day trip to another island in Hawaii. We will probably hire a car in LA – to head down to Anaheim and San Diego – and also for a couple of days in Las Vegas if we decide to head to Mt Charleston (I would get to see snow!) or Hoover Dam. We were thinking of taking a trip to the Grand Canyon, but aren’t sure now weather-wise. We may have to think more about that one too. So… once again, if you have ANY suggestions at all, we would love to hear them. Also, we would LOVE to meet people over there, so if anyone lives anywhere near those locations – JULEE and LUAN? – maybe we could meet up for a coffee or lunch. I am now going to go and catch up on my reading so I can get some personal replies posted. Take care, Zelma |
Zelma-You might want to be careful about Tijuana. There is such a large drug war going on there right now that so many police were being killed, that the president has sent in army troops. I love Mexico, and have spent many months there over the years without once feeling in danger, but right now I wouldn't go to Tijuana, Juarez or Acapulco, and pretty much any part of the state of Chiapas. They wouldn't target you, but there's always a chance of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Bernice - Glad to see you, you have been missed. :cp: for your 4 lbs gone forever ... you are doing great just blowing through those challenges right and left.
Battle - Glad to see you also, been missing you. Don't beat up on yourself for the last week. I have noted that when you do veer off course, you always seem to right yourself and get going again and that's the important thing. You are taking the right steps to get back on track and your body will normalize in no time. Heather_dw - Congrats on your HUGE NSV :carrot: You are progressing more and more each day. Debi - Glad your hubby's med levels were ok. I hope his doctor visit today was productive as well. How nice to have a place to watch the hummingbirds. Somewhere along the way our feeder that was outside my front room window was taken down. I can't remember why, but after reading your post I think it's time to buy another one. ProfHeather - Welcome back, glad you enjoyed your trip. Carol - 2.5 down :dancer: - you are really moving it on down my friend. Annie - WTG on your test. Like you and Battle I usually was the first to finish test also. It would sometimes leave me doubting myself, but in the end I usually always did well. You are really rocking this job hunt thing. I'm so happy you have so many opportunities. I know after your last experience you will choose carefully whatever is best for you. Julia - Good job on the hot chocolate. I also don't like to tell people I'm trying to lose weight. Sharon - Here's the good news about menopause. Most of the symptoms you are experiencing now will go away once you get through it. I was lucky in that I transitioned fairly easily so I never tried any herbal or prescribed remedies. I really didn't experience hot flashes, but boy those mood swings :tantrum:, made PMS look like a very slight irritation. The memory thing I don't know, with me I don't know if it is menopause related or just age creeping up on me. I can tell you that it is great to not have TOM any longer, no PMS, no water weight gain every month (of course that excuse would come in handy on my off weeks lol). Unfortunately my love of chocolate had nothing at all to do with TOM or menopause, I still have that as strongly as ever. Debbie - I usually eat about 30 - 60 fat grams a day also. I take medication that makes my hair fall out and my skin dry, so it's hard for me to tell whether that's from my medication or lack of fat :?: Sounds like your veggies are doing well. It's been a learning experience for me to read all the posts from you northerners that have to start seeds inside in pots. Down here they just go directly into the ground sometime in March or so. Catherine, Annie & Debbie - all you people still with cold weather and snow, as I sit here posting it is 80 degrees at 7:14 pm. I'll try my best to push my gorgeous weather on up to ya'll. But only if you will return the favor and push me down some cool around August when I'm dying from 100+ degree temps ;). Went shopping this past weekend and bought a new top and pants, can't even remember the last time I bought anything new to wear, years and years. Anyway, I got size 24 for both, thinking they would probably not fit or be too tight but I would "shrink" into them. Tried them on when I got home and they fit perfectly! I looked in the full length mirror and surprise, surprise, I actually do look smaller with clothes that actually fit and are not too big. I'm off to do dishes. Hope everyone has a wonderful evening. |
Hello all,
I'm starting this before dinner, but I suspect it will be after when I get it posted. I meant to check in yesterday but I was quite busy, and very tired by the end of the night. I have been working in the garden a little on top of my usual exercise schedule, and it's harder than I thought! However, the berry bushes are moved now, and tomorrow I'll trim up the ones we didn't move and maybe fill them in a little as well. Then the remaining ones will have to be dug out and we'll try and get the neighbours to take them. Jill - Yes, I think you need to see a real doctor (ie. one who listens). I think that's the part of the US system I don't quite get (the HMOs). Although it can be tough in some areas here to find a family physician (because they aren't accepting new patients), you pretty much find someone who fits with you. And changing doctors when you change jobs just seems odd. I've had occasional high BP readings, but sometimes quite normal. The family doctor seems to think it's very much stress related. The funny thing is it seems to be the stress of going into the doctor's office. The last time I was there he suggested that I just drop in one day and get one of the nurses to take it. I did and it was fine. I was also working in a plant where there was a nurse there every few weeks so I had her do it - also fine. So for the moment we're not doing anything about it, just keeping an eye on it. I've always been tense in doctor's offices, and worse in the dentist's. I also signed up for the challenge. I figured why not? Good luck to us all! Annie - I seem to be back to normal. It didn't interfere with any of my exercising yesterday, although I did feel it doing one of the barbell squat sets. I ended the day with other aches and pains, but they were all better by this morning. This seems to be the way I end my days, with something aching. However a little heat and a good night's sleep and I'm back to a relatively normal level. The Salvation Army job does sound like it would have wonderful side benefits. Good luck. I just read your post about the test. I've always been nervous when I finish a test too fast, although it almost always turns out to be good. I suspect that in a week or so you're going to be juggling offers. Debbie - no hubby, that's my mother I'm doing the work with. Although I did live with someone for a while, I've never found that one person I'd want to spend the rest of my life with. It's probably more complicated than that, because I also have a tendancy to push people away who try to even start a relationship. About 12 years ago (after my father died) my mother and I pooled resources and bought a house together in a different city than we were both living in. I suppose I've become quite comfortable with that situation (good and bad). Anyway, glad to hear that Sadie is good, and hope that Marilyn finds a good home. It's funny you mention the weather, but we have time-shift channels and I missed Desperate Housewives the other night and so I recorded it from the west coast channel. I think it probably is a Seattle station. I was watching it yesterday and heard the word snow during one of the news breaks and kind of did a double-take. Oh, and I eat about 30% of my calories from fat. I really mostly aim for 30% protein and let the rest fall into place. When I raised the protein the fat content came up as well. I looked back for April and it's running 31% average. So at 1800 calories I'd be eating 60grams. I'm eating more than that though. :) Carol - one of the guys I used to work with was doing the ballroom lessons with his then girlfriend. I think she originally had to drag him to it, but he ended up enjoying it more than she did. I'm not sure that his new girlfriend was into it either. He used to joke about having all those skills and nobody to dance with. And congrats on the 2.25 pounds! Bernice - congrats on the loss, and catch up when you have the time. In the meantime keep OP and have fun. Vicki - hello there. I sometimes feel the same (that my life is boring and I have nothing to say), but do speak up every now and then. I'm very jealous of you being in Florida and at the beach. Hope you have a great time. BattleAx - holidays can be horrid times for staying on track. Even entertaining in general can be tough. As we slowly come towards summer weather (still a couple of months off really) I know that I'll want to have friends over, and my mother will want to have family over for dinner. Since I do the cooking I can control the meals, but, it's the appetizers and the drinks I'll have the most trouble with. Getting the foods out that trigger bad eating was a good first step to getting back on track. This week will be different. Heather_dw - congrats on not one, but two walks. The number of calories burned are less important than the fact that you did it. I think you're right though, tomorrow pick somewhere else. :) Debi - we used to see hummingbirds often, but not so much lately. I suspect it has more to do with what plants we're putting in the pots (they seem to like fuschia and hanging geraniums a lot), although I did see one or two last summer. We used to have a feeder, but I'm not a fan of the wasps we seem to get more than the birds. Catherine - your forecast still looks good for the end of the week, so just hold on. If they're right, on Monday you'll be back to thinking that spring is coming. Ours is going to do the opposite, stay nice until the weekend and then drop a fair bit. Although I notice that once again they're calling for rain tomorrow morning. I do hope it's wrong as it just won't work into my plans for the day! Julia - that was a good job with the hot chocolate. I agree about not wanting to many people to know, but it does create problems. We had two neighbours come back from vacation recently bearing gifts. The first one brought lime juice (this was a welcome gift). I use it to make a drink in the summer, which isn't too bad using Splenda. So this was a good choice. The other one brought some kind of chocolate covered coconut candy. It hasn't been opened, but it's got a best before date sometime in August. We'll put it out for company, but that's not really nice, is it? I think I looked at the calorie count and they're like 150 for one. And it's probably not even something I'd like. Can you tell I'm trying to convince myself of this? Sharon - yellow jackets are a type of wasp. They tend to be more agressive (ie. stinging even when not threatened). We've had wasp nests before (little fruit wasps) and they'll fly over your head when your gardening and don't do any harm. They're actually quite nice as they are great pollinators. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_jacket Ratkitten - I'm not sure what happened to the concept of customer service. Some companies get it, and others don't. When I was looking for a specific type of dumbbell I sent two emails off to companies listed as distributors. Wanting to know what they carried, did they have any in stock. One gave me a prompt reply - the other never did. Why put an email address on a website if you're never going to check and/or reply. They were both in different cities so I didn't want to head out of town unless I knew they had them in stock. Especially with the price of gas. Okay, rant over, but it's not the first such experience. It's to the point where good responses (phone and email) are such a surprise. Glad you got yours sorted out. I suppose it will be a day or so before your alter ego will be let out to play. Zelma - we were in San Diego for a very short time last year (less than a day) and we visited Old Town, and the Gaslamp Quarter, and a mall just off the Gaslamp Quarter that was architecturally quite interesting. I found this link at the convention bureau (25 Fun and Free Things to Do in San Diego) - http://www.sandiego.org/article/Visitors/795 Johnnie - congrats on finding that you like your new clothing. I know that's something I'll find hard to do for a while. It will come eventually I suppose. Well gals, I think that's it for me tonight. I'm going to try and make an early evening of it if I can. Take care all and hope everyone is having a good week. |
Well today has been a long day...i try not to worry about hubby while he was on his way to and from the dr but i did!!! Daughter was able to meet him there and sit with him. the dr wants to increase his depokate 500mg per day. He said even though his level is in the range its suppost to be he has found with bipolar it works better at a higher level. He has to get labs again in a week. He is still in pretty bad shape.
My allergies are messed up. My daughter went to get something out of her trunk tonight and everything was wet and molded. NOt sure how it all got wet.We had to throw out 2 blankets and a few bags and books. Everything was covered in mold. She is such a pack rat, it drives me nuts!!!! I think this might have taught her a lesson though. There was no reason for having so many things in her trunk. I am washing a few things that are just wet and praying they come clean ok. The stroller i sprayed down with a mildew spray. Im not sure it will all come off though. I came in right on calories today but not satified so i am going to bed. I think i didnt get satified at breakfast and snacked (healthy) today but never got full. oh well at least i didnt go over in calories. I have not drank enough water the last couple of days.. Tommorow is a new day and im praying for a better day!! Thanks for all your good thought and prayers during this trying time. debi |
