uh oh..........Hubby brought home fried chicken(my weakness) and i ate most of a breast, skin and all.I feel awful now!! I think not having grease for a month and then eating it isnt a good idea. He said he wasnt thinking about me not being able to eat the chicken. He jsut knew I loved it and he was trying to be sweet. I was low in calories to start the day so maybe if Im extra good tommorow it will even out.
has anyone tried the morning star bacon or sausage patties. Hubby also kinda went nuts buying the stuff. Thats one thing about his being bipolar he tends to over buy things. OH well if its nasty Im making him take the rest of it back.

BattleAx, I know it's rough right now -- maybe you could pamper yourself in a different way. Go for a nice walk outside instead of exercising in the gym? Call someone you really like and to whom you haven't spoken lately? Play with your pet if you have one or go to PetSmart and snuggle an adopt-a-cat if you don't? Buy something cool, like snazzy new underwear or a movie you love? It will be better eventually! And it might not help, but after I landed my dream job it turned into an absolute nightmare (still turns my stomach, five years later!).

DMPLS 03-06-2008 07:18 PM

Nancy- yes it is specially because we use to talk at least every other day when he was in college. No email until he is through with Basic Training. When he goes for his AIT training he will have access to email.

Debbie-I think I will give it another week before I introduce jogging but most definitely will. I tend to swell in my legs...ankles especially after exercise or in the evening mostly. I think most of that is water or lack of me using those muscles/joints. But, I don’t want to aggravate anything either. Had to giggle at your comment about your shape and your fears of the outcome after you reach your goal. I fear similarly mine is my hmmm not sure what you call them...not exactly my thighs but not my hips either....right at the joint of my thigh & hip on the outside edge of my leg I have always had this hump even at my lowest weight....when Im heavy its not as noticable but when I start to lose weight it is VERY pronounced....I will have to have DH take a pic of me to explain it in better detail LOL it is really strange....my mother had it too....but I don’t or haven’t ever noticed it on anyone else that I can recall. I worry I will be slim and trim with these two humps coming out my legs!!!

Anne- The first portion of his training “Basic Training” is till May 5th that is where they teach them what the Army is and the “basics” of the Army life. Then he will go to Arizona for a much longer course called “AIT” (Advanced Individual Training) then after that training he will go to his first duty station. He has enlisted for 6yrs.....and more than likely he will be sent to the Middle East right off the bat. He most definitely wont be stationed close to us during his 6 years. He is going into Interigation and the bases near us do not generally use them. He will get leave and holidays off and Im sure he will drive or fly home for those. It is just so difficult thinking about my kids moving away....the three others truly have no intentions on moving more than an hour away from here!

Well today I stayed OP all day........and I still am under Calories tonight, however I did eat ONE serving of Thin mints today as well as 1 tagalong cookie.........I ate some extra protein this afternoon since I was feeling sluggish......we had another what we would call a “man handling” day LOL so I think what I ate today got burned off thus the hunger after work......I guess since the GS cookies have been in the house for over a week and I have not even thought about touching them till today and only wanted one serving so that I would not go over calories........I think that is a NSV for me!!! LOL cuz I most definitely could and would previously polish off a whole box by myself!

Well gotta run spend some time with DH his 5 hour class got cancelled due to weather that has yet to arrive LOL but anyways its nice to have him home tonight!!!

Will chat with you all tomorrow since Im OFF yeah!

Unfortunately, if those are what I think they are, they're called saddlebags, and my mom and I both have them, too. She told me once that when I was born, she looked at my legs and said "Poor thing!" :dizzy: Sadly, they don't go away :( My mom has always struggled with her weight but has had a super much easier time since menopause (go figure!) and now has the body that she's always wanted...except for the saddlebags. Fortunately, they don't show through clothes, and she always looks great :)

worthapenny 03-06-2008 08:37 PM

I am back in the land of hot water!!!! Thanks for all the prayers. We drained the water from the basement and let the water heater sit for a couple days to dry out. Today before lunch I was told that all he had to do was reset a breaker on the hot water heater. Yeah!!! I don't have to boil water tonight for a bath. The shower will feel awesome. My daughter thought it was cool to heat water for the bath tub the other night though. But the next night was not so eager! Imagine that. Hubby will be home tomorrow and was happy to hear that too.

Bernice-WOW what power to stay away from GS cookies for over a week, good for you. I am a leader so my daughter has lots in the house and I really don't care to eat any. I only ordered two boxes, the rest went to gift of caring. My husband is in a weight loss group and they had a challenge to not order any and donate to girls troop or order for shelter. I thought that was awesome. I know your son will do well in the ARMY. Where is his Basic at? I have two sons and they both went into the ARMY. The older one only stayed in for a couple of years. The younger one went in and loves it! You must if you can, definitely go see the basic training graduation. It is so awesome. I was so proud of the boys. My younger son is stationed in Ft. Bliss, TX, he is a Patriot Missile Specialist. All I can say is keep your chin up and write lots and lots of letters and send pictures too! I remember the first letter I received I read it over and over until the next one came. I work at the post office so I received the mail before the rest of the family got to read it!!!! It is funny how our younger son wanted to go away to college but thought it was too far from home! Now look at him, and loves it. Speaking as a mother with a son in the service, I would rather him like it than not. I am so proud of your son and all the service people and please let him know.

Anne-wow, what control putting them in the garage. I would not be able to have them in the house. Only one, good for you!

Debimitch-I remember I was so hungry for KFC. The first time I had it I did get sick. I think it was because of not having all the greasy food. I hope you get along well with it. What a sweet husband to think of you. I have only tried the morningstar turkey sausage. It was alright, but I prefer the all natural chicken apple sausage better. I don't know about the bacon.

babybear101-I am glad that your daughter's test were o.k.

I gotta go for now as I don't have all my water in for the day and I need to do some laundry in "hot" water. YEAH!

dgramie 03-06-2008 09:01 PM

Well we are all ready for the big snow storm if it comes.I just jogged 20 min on the mini tramp.I figured It would makeup for some of the chicken. Yes it was sweet of hubby to think of me,but I hope from now on he will think low calorie and healthy. I have IBS issues and the grease didnt help matters any.I can truly say my IBS has been so much better since I am dieting.I think giving up grease and soft drinks have really helped.
worthapenny_ im glad you have water back. I know how upsetting it is to have a wet basement.I have had standing water before. It messed up my washer that time and my heater. Luckily my washer was new and they covered it under warranty. My heater had to dry out and be relit.
babybear I know your relieved to get good results fromyour daughters doc.
Oh i just found out my dr is leaving town.Im so upset!!!
dmpls- enjoy your hubby.
everyone else have a great night.

Hi Peeps

Not much going on here - good workout but I need to baby the knee a bit until I go see the ortho at the end of the month. I was able to do 40 minutes on the treadmill in addition to the circuit training but the knee is throbbing now.

Time to find the pups - I think it's a 2 dog night - feeling the need for a tail thumping at me.

Hugs to all,
Carol

RealCdn 03-06-2008 11:39 PM

Penny,

Putting them in the garage (especially at this time of year) is an acknowledgment that I don't yet have the willpower I need. If they were in the kitchen freezer there's a chance that sometime tonight if I couldn't sleep that I would consider having just one more. Outside would mean having to put on shoes, maybe even a coat, and taking the bar off the sliding glass door. Then I would have to step down onto the patio - into the garage. Although I did clear the snow away the other day, it's still pretty cold out. I'd have to turn on the lights, then take out the stuff I put in front of them.

Not that I haven't (very briefly) thought about it!

That was the reason behind leaving them in that freezer. Although they will keep better in that one (no auto defrost). It is a small victory as before it's unlikely that any would have survived past the evening. It's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure there was a point (many years ago) that the box would have been opened on the way home in the car. So there is progress.

Good night all.

JuleeCeeS 03-07-2008 01:13 AM

Well I am all packed up for the weekend...got the vitamin c drops (thanks for the suggestion) and extra cold meds. I bought an adorable enw dress at target tonight...I was shocked that I fit into it...but I did. It was from their new designer collection and it was an XL. Usually their stuff runs realllly small...but what can I say? Of course in the pictures on the 5'9 115 lb model it looks a little different but on me with black leggings, DH said it looked very "retro" and that I needed a big headband to match it. Love that man!

MIL...has moved from crazy to evil. "Nuff said.

Battle..I am so sorry about the job. When I was leaving my former job and was job hunting, I found out through the grapevine that some of the places I had interviewed went wayyyyy outside the lines to find information about me and based decisions on a lot of hearsay and gossip. I was crushed and strongly considered leaving the field altogether for fear that it was going to keep following me. Fortunately I found my current job and 6 years later I am still here. Doors are never shut without windows being opened :) Keep the faith!!!

Have wonderful, restful, DRY, OP (or close to it) weekends...

worthapenny 03-07-2008 06:24 AM

Anne- Look at it this way. YOU did have the control to put them in the garage where it would take more work to get to them. You could have easily put them in the house freezer and had access to them freely! YOU thought through it. If you want the cookies you will have to do some exercise to move things to get to them!! You are doing great, keep going. Mine are sitting on top of the freezer on the back porch. But I am sick of looking at them so don't care to eat them.
My daughter needs to get on the ball and get them delivered. Maybe tonight and weekend.
My older daughter has state speech contest tomorrow. She is so excited. I am very proud of her. I have to work, but her dad will be home tonight and he is going to go and watch her. She also asked dad last night if a boy could ride with him to watch her, so as to save gas on 2 vehicles going. Dad said yes! She was happy, yet nervous what they will talk about. It is an hour drive! She did state thought that he is only a "boy" space "friend". So we will see. We know him and like him. Scary, she is 16 and driving now!
Hubby weighs in tomorrow a.m. and the girls and I on Sunday a.m. wish me luck as it has been a long stressful week! must get ready for work. Everyone have a great day!!!!!

DMPLS 03-07-2008 07:12 AM

Tina- Glad your daughter’s appt went well! Hope you all fair well with the snow....we are suppose to get some too........I wish it was spring already!!!

Battle- sorry about the job but just keep your chin up there will be something bigger & better in store for you!!!

Walrus- LOL my mom called them that so I guess you are right! She use to do HUNDREDS of leg lifts...the kind where you lay on your side....she said it would make those smaller LOL well it didn’t.......hmmm maybe I can find an exercise for them online ....I will look!

Worthapenny-
YEAH for HOT WATER!!! Been there done that and hated it! Isn’t it funny how kids love to do something new and different but if it was the norm they would hate it? As a kid, my Dad worked as a Plasterer (cement work) and my sis and I would have to take a wire brush to his jeans and shirts to scrape off all the hardened cement prior to washing his clothes. My girlfriend always wanted to do it, like it was FUN LOL so shoot who was I to stop her LOL!!!! Her Dad worked in the Oilfield and she HATED to clean his oil stained clothes LOL she couldn’t stand the smell of them. I hated having to sit on the back porch for hours scraping cement LOL weird huh?
DH was in the Army (medically retired after 16+yrs) so I am no stranger to Military life. That is why I know he will do fine in the Army, its just the letting him “go” that I’m having issues with LOL he is my baby boy LOL the one who always wants to hug me and he would still sit on my lap LOL we are close. I envision a mother Hen and all her baby chicks are under her wings and there is that one who is scurrying away and she is trying to stretch her wing to snag it back underneath....LOL that’s me! He is at Ft. Sill OK for Basic and then Ft. Huachuca (sp?) Arizona for AIT. I know we are planning on going to Basic Graduation. I took a train cross country with our oldest 7mths old for DH’s Basic Graduation it was awesome! One of DH’s battle buddies is stationed in KS and he is going to join us at the Graduation, he loves our kids like his own siblings. Good Luck on your WI Sunday!

Debi- Hope your feeling better from the Chicken....Gosh I don’t think I could resist KFC LOL but I usually take the skin off anyways and I know that’s where most of the fat hangs out LOL .......DH and I had a very relaxing night....we watch American Idol and some Law & Order reruns and then went to bed. He woke me up at 5am this morning so I could make breakfast & pack his lunch heheheh wish I would have done that last night but oh well maybe I can get on the treadmill for a bit this am!

Carol- I think it’s great you still did 40 mins on the treadmill even with you babying your knee!!!

Anne- ohhh yes I’ve done that in the car too.....you buy a box of ice cream and it doesn’t even make it home from the store! So glad I’m changing my ways, that way is not healthy! Should of known then it wasn’t, cuz of course I always hid the evidence because I didn’t want the kids or DH to know I ate the whole box in the car!!!

Julees- CONGRATS on the XL dress!!!! At Target NO LESS!!! I know their sizes tend to run small!!! Have fun this weekend!!

Ok so can I shoot my DH? He already has his six-pack showing when he flexes his stomach!!! I told him I’m going to add calories to his meals without him knowing LOL (joking) He is looking better already! But, in a way I’m glad he has shown such quick results, this way he will stay OP with me!!!!! I know mine will be a longer road to a Healthy body, heck I’ve let myself go longer than he has! He has always been physically fit, just in the past 3yrs or so since he retired has he gained his weight. I’ve been heavy all my life LOL

Well yesterday and Weds I finally managed to eat closer to 2200 cals.....and I was hungry! I think it was due to the activity in our classroom this past week! Don’t know maybe full moon?? Our kids were wild this week......when I say wild......I mean wild!!! I work with special needs students remember......we had kids that normally don’t outburst do it....as well as Parents freaking out on us.....for various reasons....the phone wouldn’t stop ringing yesterday, I finally had to tell the office do not put through this parent....we are physically restraining a student and NO one can talk to him! LOL he called 8 times before 9:30am (our day starts at 8:40)

I work on our schools yearbook with one other Teacher.....our deadline is today.....but we have till the tenth to get it turned in. We are finally completed! I have one more graphic that we decided yesterday we needed on the front and back pages....but other than that it is complete I really am excited about it this year! It is all color 88 pages and the cover was designed by our Art teacher! We switched companies this year and got more for our $$ we can’t wait till the kids see it!!! This is the first year we have Full color book!

Well I better get some Treadmill time in before I get lazy!!!! Maybe even some weights??? Hmmmm gotta find an on Demand fitness show maybe??? Will check back in and let you all know what I found!

Be Nice!!! Drink your water!!! Burn some FAT!!!

voodoo1 03-07-2008 07:19 AM

Worthapenny, hope you daughter does well & good luck with the weigh-in.xxxxx
Anne, I laughed about the keeping things in the garage it's what I do too, lol, crisps (chips) & anything else 'snacky' that might tempt me. It's so easy to walk past 'something' & grab a handful ot to get food out of the freezer & see something sweet & want it, I've found if it's out of sight it really does stop you. I tried some skinny cow products & wasn't impressed at all, though I had a 'Cherry Garcia' choc chip, cherry piece cherry frozen yoghurt from Ben & Jerry's, forgot the cals in it but WOW the best icecream I've EVER HAD!!!!xxxxxxx
Battle, sorry the job didn't pan out. I hope you aren't too upset.xxxxxx
I weighed in today, lost 2lbs which is good as I only started on Monday, I'm weighing-in on Fridays now so I can have a bottle of wine & get to 'work' & diet it off all week. I HAD to start Monday as the scale was creeping UP, why waste five days? AND I'm DOWN 2 so that's great. I made an appointment to see a Dr on Monday to get sorted out, I've felt so low for so long & lately it's been much worse than low. I've no interest in anything, not the craft stuff hubby bought me for my birthday in Feb, housework(no change there, lol) or anything, I keep missing dentist appts, school meetings & everything is 'too much'. There now it's in the open & hopefully I can go back on Prozac or something to give me a lift until I'm able to do it myself. Cross your fingers for me
xxxxxxxsharon

Hello everyone,
Well I tried the morningstar bacon...YUCK!!
I just had a bowl of oatmeal. Guess the neighborhood cat will be getting the bacon.
going to work on the house today. Have a good day.

{{{{{{Sharon}}}}}}} I know what you mean about feeling low! I'm glad your going to see the dr. I will keep you in my prayers that you can be lifted up from your lowpoint. keep posting if nothing else it holds you accountable to us....I know for me sometimes its easier to be accountable to someone who isn't in your day to day life.

Debi- LOL on the bacon.....mental note "don't buy morningstar bacon" SNOW SNOW & MORE SNOW falling grrrrr I want SPRING TIME!!! hehehehe

Well I found a workout for my legs & some instructions on easy weight lifting for my arms!!!!
I did the workout for my legs & did 2 sets of 15 reps on my arms!!! I will try to do 2 more sets for the arms again later today.....I think I will up the weight because it was too easy LOL although they suggested 3 sets of 15 reps and I couldn't do the last set....so maybe I will just wait and when I can do all 3 sets then I will up the weight!

will probably stop in later again! LOL

CatherineM 03-07-2008 10:20 AM

DMPLS-Fort Sill is next door to the wildlife refugee I used to spend a lot of time backpacking in when I was much younger. This is a very nice time of year to go there as long as you don’t accidentally meet a tornado. He’s lucky he’s not going to be there in August. Dirt can melt in that part of the state in summer. I was a yearbook editor in high school. Our publishing rep was Mart Hart’s husband. She doesn’t look any older which is seriously creepy.

Sharon- had an aunt and uncle who used to keep snack foods in their garage too. The entire garage. They ran a vending machine business. It was like entering Wonka’s. Cases of chips and candy bars reaching to the ceiling. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Debi-I always liked the soy substitute stuff. I did like Boca better than Morningstar, especially their sausages. Can’t get either here. I can only get Yves. They make good soy pepperoni. When I eat something no that I’m not used to anymore, I spend the next day in the bathroom. It is because the good bacteria that we developed to digest certain foods have basically starved to death. So digestion has to happen in the large intestine instead of the small intestine. The stuff in there can digest anything, it’s just not as gentle. My former roommate completely got rid of her IBS when she started on my diet.

Julee-I know what you mean about detoxing. When I’ve eaten the wrong stuff, I practically have a nasty coating in my mouth like I’ve just gotten over a cold. It’s like my body has put up the same barrier to bad food that it has to a virus. That should tell me something.

Battle-I’m sorry the job didn’t come through. The cookie dough sounded good, I’m glad you were able to throw it out. I probably couldn’t have.

Debbie-I’ve always been a pear, but the dieting has definitely been from the top down. Maybe it’s gravity’s fault. My bottom half is about 3 sizes larger than my top half. That can be a real pain.

Anne-If you are craving ice cream, it could mean you are low on calcium, or on fat. It’s got both. I have trouble reminding myself to get at least 20 grams of fat at day. If I don’t, I can get depressed, sluggish, and my hair starts falling out. Have some olive oil and see if the ice cream craving goes away next time.

Babybear-Thanks for trying to help your daughter. It’s important. I wish my mother had done for me what you are doing for her.

Worthapenny-I once had to deal with no hot water during the Thanksgiving holiday, and I was having 12 to dinner. It was such a pain. I’m glad you survived.

Carol-Take care of your knees. That’s why I can only do water exercise. Monday in the time before my class, the high school next door had a gym class in the water. We had to sit on the side of the pool waiting to go in. One of the kids was really staring at my knee with all the scars on it. I just wanted to tell her to take care of her knees. The angle of our hips just makes us so much more susceptible to trouble.

Anne-We got snow yesterday, how about you? Aren’t you guys approaching some kind of all time snow record? We’re going to Niagara Falls for a week in October, and I’m hoping it isn’t snowing then.

Julee-A mother in law moving from crazy to evil, welcome to my world. He was at their house last night when he called me, and she wanted to talk to me on the phone. He tried to explain that I do not talk on the phone, and only make exceptions for him when he is out of town. She stormed around like a bull in anger that she couldn’t have me on the phone to do God knows what.

I finished my school work for the week, most of the housework. I’ve got a few more things to do, and then I can work on my book until I leave to go meet him at the station. At least it is sunny out today. We may even get above 0 today. When he’s gone, I actually have trouble eating enough. It’s as if I don’t want to bother to cook just for myself.

TheWalrus 03-07-2008 10:27 AM

I was late to work this morning and then tripped and landed (only a little, but enough) on the broken leg. Didn't hurt too much, but now of course I'm worried that I've undone some of the last 3 weeks of healing! Guess I'll find out next Friday, when I can FINALLY start putting weight on it again! Woo hoo! It's Friday, everyone! Hooray!

dogpal 03-07-2008 10:45 AM

Good Morning all,

No time for personals but I just wanted to say hey. Congrats to all the loosers, hugs to those struggling and a kick in the butt to those who need it. I hope you all have a wonderful day that is op, water drinking and butt moving. Gotta run, busy day today at work. Weigh in today and didn't loose an ounce. Oh well, Hopefully next week.

Blessings all,
Annie

DMPLS 03-07-2008 12:22 PM

Annie at least no gain huh? I love your new pic!!! you are looking great!!!

Well I HAD to go out today in this mess!! I am not a cold weather person!!!! LOL but Dh needed me to run errands and we NEEDED some things from the store.......so I not only braved the roads but walmart during a snow storm!!!! LOL

I picked up some yams/sweet potatoes raw......I had seen someone say something about fries (baked I think) with them....anyone have a clue? I am going to check the recipe board but thought if someone had a fabulous recipe for them I might get it here!

talk later!

Debbie54 03-07-2008 01:06 PM

I'm down another 3 lbs. Wow! It feels so good to be losing again. It seemed I was stuck for so long. I battled the 300/299 issue for a while and now I won't have to look at 300's ever again.

Anne, you really thought through your ice creams. That's great. It's so much better than making a snap decision when we are really craving something. Good for you!

Debi, o I bet that chicken was good though. I can't even remember the last time I had chicken with skin. I'll just live through you and watch from afar.

Bernice, yep, those are those lovely saddlebags that I think most women have. All we can hope for is that they get smaller along with the rest of the body.
I figure if you were hungry for those cookies, you should have them. I don't deny myself anything pretty much. I just make sure I have one serving and count every calorie. Seems to work for me.

Tina, so glad to hear your daughter is doing better. That asthma can be awful. I bet she was happy too.

worthapenny, o good!! Your water being hot again is a relief, I bet. That would be so hard to deal with during these winter months. Stay warm now.

Sharon, congrats on the 2 lbs gone. That's wonderful. Yes, get yourself to the doc and find out what's going on. Take care.

Catherine, glad to hear Himself will be home today.

Annie, no loss is better than a gain. Next week you'll have a nice loss, I'm sure of it.

have a good day
Debbie

RealCdn 03-07-2008 02:58 PM

Good afternoon all,

I've done pretty good at getting the exercising done in the morning, so this is good. It gives me more free time to get other things done. Although this afternoon I'm considering a nap. Other than that it's pretty quiet around here. I've heard that we're supposed to get more snow. Enough already, we give up! I've avoided looking at the forecast but people always want to tell you about bad weather.

Bernice - Under calories is something I struggle a little with. I know I need to snack at night, but I've noticed that I'm usually just adding all the calories I didn't have. Then I seem to just snack from dinner until bedtime. When I change my meal plan around next week I'm going to address that. Maybe a little extra at breakfast, and a mid-morning snack. I still need that evening snack, but I'm going to try cutting it down. And very big congrats on the cookie victory! Although I never did it, you could try recording some of the fitness and/or yoga shows to use when you feel like it. Before I decided to work on the weight training that was my plan.

Penny - I missed the hot water reference completely. Yay! You have hot water. We were on a trip last year and there was a period of a couple of days where the hot water was intermittant. You really don't think about it until you don't have it. And you're right, about the ice cream bars. I'm a little annoyed today because another grocery store has them on sale (about $2 less that what I paid). I think I'll skip the sale this time. Maybe the next time they're on sale I'll consider buying another box. We'll see how this one goes. Good luck on the weigh in. And good luck with your daughter. I shudder to think what I was like at that age. :)

Sharon -
B&J's Cherry Garcia was a favourite of mine. They do it in both ice cream and frozen yogurt. If they had the yogurt one yesterday I would likely have bought it. The ice cream is just way too high to even think of. At least until I know I have enough control to portion it out. That may be a long way off (or perhaps never, who knows). Congrats on the loss. I don't know why I picked Mondays, especially since this time I started on a Friday. Just seemed to happen that way.

Catherine - I usually hit about 55g of fat (just under 25%), but I do see that I have a couple of low fat days earlier in the week. My problem with dairy is that I generally don't take much. I can't stomach milk, yogurt, etc. so I do use a little butter and try to add a little cheese. The doctor did suggest a calcium supplement, but I know that's not really the best choice. I do usually hit between 50 and 75% RDA on calcium though. I'm planning to change my protein levels next week (higher), so with that will come a little more fat. I'll be adding in some peanut and/or almond butter, soy nuts, and maybe almonds. So we'll see what that does. As to the snow question... ignore it, it will go away. Okay, it's probably way too early to be saying that. I can't avoid it any longer, so off to the weather network.

From Friday Evening to Saturday Afternoon we expect 30-40 cm of snow. (converted that's 11.8" - 15.7")

What! It's freakin' March 7th. We do not get this type of snowfall here at this time of year. Our average monthly snowfalls add up to 153cm (that might be different from what our avg is). I think the main difference is that we don't usually have a lot of snow cover at this time of year. October is often a good time of year for southwestern Ontario. August is often quite hot and very muggy. September usually starts lousy, but by the time school is back it can be quite warm again. October can be quite nice with brisk days, but not always cold. Having said all that I do remember going out for Halloween as a kid and it would snow. Of course it was that light fluffy stuff that never stayed around. Well, if nothing else, I'm glad the shopping is done and that I filled up the wood bins inside.

TheWalrus - hope the leg is okay. I'll bet you're looking forward to next Friday!

Annie -
you are allowed (and expected) to have a week where you didn't lose an ounce. We're all really bad at dealing with those weeks. I'm hoping that I'll get better with dealing with them myself. Hopefully next week you'll make up for it!

Debbie - congrats on the 3 pounds. The ice cream was good, and I reminded myself that I'm the one that said I would deny myself nothing (well not to excess). That if I wanted something I could just find a way to work it in. I've decided that the other three could become a Sunday treat (to go with my rest day). We'll see how next week goes. Except for typing about them here, I'm not really thinking about them, so that's good.

Well, it's still early enough that I'm considering that nap. Or maybe just sack out on the couch and watch an episode of Torchwood or something. Oh, and by the way, it just started snowing...

:snowglo:

(okay I know technically it's a Christmas scene, but it's kind of how it looks, especially since one of the neighbours still haven't taken their stuff down....)

DMPLS 03-07-2008 05:02 PM

Anne-DH & I said the same thing....we will not deny ourselves (within reason) anything we would normally eat (for now red meat while we get our bodies in shape) I feel the same way you do if I want something that is not a healthy choice I need to have only one serving and count the calories. Although I do look at the fat calories and usually will steer myself away from things too high in fat.

I've posted a couple of pictures on my blog of the snowfall so far today! LOL I just cant believe they actually called this one correctly!! the weather men around here are always wrong! It is still coming down here......and now they say more on Monday! which would mean YET another possible day off due to snow!!! grrrr

We were out of school today and the snow really didnt start piling up till about time for the kids to get out of school. It looks like a blizzard outside right now. The wind is really blowing hard and the snow is coming down hard.

YOungest is snowed in at a school function in Lousiville and she just called and is so ready to be home. I think she will appreciate us a little more for a few days..lol
My oldest daughter comes home from NYC tommorow night. Will be glad to know she is back at the college.
I went to walmart this morning and got my new keyboard. Its one of those things you dont appreciate till its messed up.
We have a fire a block away, the people are not home and they think its wiring in the attic. What a night for a house fire!
I have not exercised today...hubby talked me into taking the day off and doing it tommorow. I came in short on calories today to help make up for the fried chicken yesterday. It was good but not worth it at all.
Why is it when your dieting other people get critical? Hubby mentioned to his sister that we were lifting weights and she had to make a big deal out of it..she acted like I trying to become a body builder or something..lol( i wish)
Then she started in on how I have lost weight but always regain it. It just really pisses me off that she had to be negative. She also had alot to say about how counting calories wasnt good for you and you should watch carbs. Hubby told her that i am eating healthy more than dieting..
she is one of those people who just cant be happy someone is trying to improve their life.
sorry to rant.
hope everyone had a great day and enjoy your night.

Hi Peeps -sounds like a number of us got snow today - UGH - I hope we have spring don't head straight to summer. That would be OK with me but I'd like to have a little time to get the gardens ready.

The clothes I ordered came and I finally tried them on. I was actually somewhat disappointed. I bought the same pair of pants in a 22 and a 24 - the 24 fits fine except my legs right above my knee are so big they don't fit like I'd like them to. One of the shirts makes me look like an old lady - oh yeah - I am - I can't complain too much - 2 pair of pants and 2 shirts for $36 no shipping. I think it will get me through for awhile - I'm anxious to try on my spring clothes to see the difference in how they fit.

I listened to my body today and just rested. I also ate 1900 calories today - too much sodium but I'll keep drinking plenty of water to move it on. I've really been having trouble getting calories in - I seem to save them for the end of the day in case I get hungry. So I end up at 1300-1400 and won't eat that many more calories for the sake of getting my calories in. I think I will try to make sure I have 1000 calories between breakfast and lunch and see how that works.

We are discussing another winter vacation next year. It's a nice thought - not sure I'm quite ready but it would be nice to have a little winter break to the warm weather.

Move your bodies, drink your water and SMILE.

Hugs,
Carol

dmpls-I make yam fries sometimes. They can be hard to cut. I microwave them for a few minutes first, then cut them up into fries. A bit of pam on the pan, about 350-375, and cook until done. I haven't sent you that biscuit recipe yet because I can't find it. When I see a recipe, and try it the first time, I tend to just wing it after that. I can't send people a recipe that just says, put in water until it feels right, and cook until it looks right. I'll keep looking.

He got home finally safe and sound this afternoon. He went to a meeting tonight so I can get some rest.

Good Morning Peeps - how's everybody? So far it's a sunny day here - only 8 but the sun is shining.

I've been looking at recipes trying to change up what we eat - seems it's the same 4 or 5 meals - which isn't a bad thing but my taste buds need a change. I think tonight will be salmon patties with creamed peas - almost a childhood comfort food (if I liked salmon). Any suggestions - we eat grilled chicken salad, chicken stir fry, tilapia with some type of vegetables, smoked turkey sausage with cabbage, also recently introduced Catherine's baja fish taco. What do you eat? Lunches usually are leftovers of previous nights dinner.

Hope you are all doing well. Moving your bodies, drinking your water and SMILING.

Hugs,
Carol

Good morning everyone,
well we got lucky on only got about 4 inches of snow. Everyone around us seems to have gotten alot more. My baby called from Lousiville and they have 11" and it is still snowing hard. She said her teacher doesnt think they will be allowed to come home today. She will have to call into her job and tell them she cant make it home. She is upset about that.
My weigh in was 1lb loss for the week so that put me at 19lbs off. I want to get under 280 so bad and IM so close. I was hoping to have be 275 by EAster but I can see that might not happen. Hey but any loss is great!!

Em- good to see you!

anne good luck on the job hunt, im sure someone will call soon

dmpls- how much snow did you end up getting?

Time to go and lift weights and do laundry. THe sun is shining here today so im in a mood to clean. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Carol-My husband once brought home a jar of ginger marmalade. We both hated it, but I put it on top of some salmon to throw in the oven, and it was great. We’ve also done orange, and mixed berry, the no-sugar kind. We pretty much eat salmon or chicken breast, so I have to mix things up a bit. I go down the ethnic aisle or to different neighborhood groceries in search of strange things. I’ve done different kinds of green and yellow curry, and once this Bosnian thing. You have to watch the sodium content, but I just throw some on frozen chicken breast, and plunk it in the oven. I am a very good cook, but I have kitchen issues, and need to stay out of there as much as possible. I’ve got non-stick round cake pans to make individual servings, and will put a breast in each one, some sauce, and a half a can of peas or chopped tomatoes in each. That kind of thing. Try some low fat coconut milk with a package of satay. That will make your husband follow you from room to room.

Annie-I sure hope you get a chance to settle soon. Chaos makes it so much harder to concentrate.

I need to eat breakfast, but just can’t seem to get around good. I only got to the pool once this week. I’ll have to do better next week.

gggirls 03-08-2008 12:11 PM

Catherine - once again you make me laugh - I also have kitchen issues and I am very good cook - apparently I think so cuz I have eaten too much of it. Hubby did say he is starting to miss some of our "old" staples - I told him he'll just have to find them somewhere else. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'll work twice as hard this afternoon in the pool - will that help you feel better?

Carol

azcyn 03-08-2008 12:12 PM

Morning peeps....

Well this week was not so good for me..I have been working overtime..and although the money is nice takes alot out of me.

As far as exercising..it hasnt happened..UGH..no one to blame but me. darn it..lol

As for eating that I have been doing good. I took my lunch to work everyday last week. So no eating out for me!!! And I actually turned down sweets at work serveral times..and I truley felt good about it. I actually didn't want it.

Today I am cleaning out my bedroom and garage..lol wish me luck!!!

Stress has been bad...lots of things going on my life that are out of my control. So I have been sobbing alot lol. But I know things will get better....they always do!

DMPLS 03-08-2008 12:24 PM

Catherine-that’s ok whenever you find it is fine! I figured out that yams are hard to slice LOL! I kinda made my own recipe up...I took one yam(HUGE almost 1 lb), one sweet onion, 6 cloves of garlic, about 25 baby carrots. Placed them all in a baking dish drizzled about 2 TBS. EVOO overtop then used Mrs. Dash with basil & tomato.....tossed it around covered with foil and baked for 45mins at 350. (could of used maybe 10 or 15 mins more) they came out great! Dh liked it but he was skeptical! DD even ate most of her’s!
Glad to hear your DH got hom ok!

Debi- not sure exactly how many inches we got but my poor toy poodle has to jump in order to walk around outside so about 6 inches in the yard or more......my table outside has at least 8 maybe 10 inches of snow on it though! I know some of that is drift snow but geeeezeee!!! Looks like Colorado outside! We are due for more Sunday night too!

Carol- I do a lite chicken parmesean kinda thing LOL take frozen chicken breast, a low-cal spaghetti sauce(I check sugar content), pour sauce over top of chicken breast. Simmer in oven at 350 for almost 30 mins.....I make sure chicken is covered with sauce so that it wont dry out. For last few mins I sprinkle mozzerella cheese over top of the chicken breast just enough to cover the breast. Bake for a few mins longer to melt cheese. Serve over whole wheat pasta or brown rice. DH is Italian and he likes it almost as much as the breaded (fried) version I use to make! You can also do this same dish with Eggplant instead of chicken. (Although I prefer the fried version of eggplant, but wont be making that LOL)
Another quick and easy chicken dinner I use and have adapted to low-cal is what we call Italian Chicken( not really Italian at all)
You simmer your chicken breast in a bit of water to cook. Cut up into pieces. In another pan take fat free cream cheese and heat till melted and creamy (I add a touch of pam so it wont burn) then add a can of lowfat cream of chicken or mushroom soup, stirring the two together, add a package of Italian dressing powder mix (dry), mix together , add chicken and simmer low for a few mins to reheat chicken meat. Serve over rice or pasta.

{{{{Cyn}}}} here's to a new week and making it a better one!!! just take it one day at a time.

I did my weight lifting this morning for my arms & then did my legs/hips/glutes exercises. I watched a couple of workout shows on fitTV one was a yoga I recorded I might try it.....will have to memorize all the moves first LOL (I'm not very coordinated) another was a Latin/Afro type dance ROFLM*O needless to say I deleted that recording!!!! If I thought Hip Hop Abs was challanging!!!! that was crazy I kept up for the first 3-4 mins and then the girl said ok now that we are warmed up we can start our routine!!! ROFL That was the ROUTINE for me!!!! hehehehe

I think I will stick with the weights and build more stamina for a dance routine.....gotta start learning some steps for our cruise in Oct and I don't want to look silly out there with DH!!! also I know that dancing is a great form of exercise that is fun too!

well better go for now gotta work on laundry and maybe even head outside to shovel the walkway for a bit.....DH laughed at that one! being born in Vegas & growing up in California I don't do snow much....I have played in the snow one time with the kids when DH was stationed away from us for a year LOL all other snow related activities is DH's department!!! LOL

Oh Cyn, I know how it feels! It will get better, and it's ok to cry. Do something nice for you -- buy flowers or a new book, or take a walk somewhere pretty. Find time to be alone with yourself -- you are a great person! I know I'm new here, but you seem so warm and caring to me. Hang in there!

dgramie 03-08-2008 04:59 PM

The snow is melting really fast here. The roads were melted by 1. Hubby decided after we lifted weights that we needed to go on and walk. I thought he was nuts. We went out to the golf course and walked the path, most of it was clear of snow. We did have to walk thru some drifts but i feel so good after doing it. Have dinner in the oven now and plan on eating early.
Daughter is on her way home from Louisville. She actually won her divison in medical phtography and gets to go to Nationals in Dallas in june. She is pumped !! IM so proud of her!!

cyn_ we are here for you anytime you need us!!Please take care of yourself.

wyoming 03-08-2008 10:33 PM

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new here - been jumping in here and there. Today was a good day, got my gym membership! Went on the treadmill and after 15 minutes I felt like I was going to die, but I made it to 30!

Cyn, I have a really stressful job too and I'm always having to work overtime, so I totally feel you. Not having personal time for yourself only adds to the stress. I agree with TheWalrus - when you've burned your candle at both ends, the best thing you can do is be super nice for yourself. Also, I try to do something right when I get off of work to kind of clear the work from me, I go window shopping, go have one drink if it was a crazy day, sit in the park and call one of my friends and chat... - I've been walking this week around the city and when I'm done walking, a lot of that work chatter in my head has melted away.

I also did major cleaning today - I actually got my kitchen into working order! It's been a ghost town for so long. I have so many things to make great food - not just heat and eat! Yay!

sandybar1 03-08-2008 10:45 PM

Nancy, Hope your trip goes well. I totally understand about eating issues
around family. Especially my dad. And his "lady friend." gee to I hate her.
Anyway, be safe!

sandybar1 03-08-2008 11:02 PM

Hi Sharon,
Glad the scale was good to you. I hope you do get to the dr soonest.
I know first hand the meds make all the difference.Big Hugs,
Sandy

sandybar1 03-08-2008 11:04 PM

Battle,
I"m so very proud of you for throwing out the cookie dough. That's a huge victory. It's an emotional victory too. Big hugs to you!!

sandybar1 03-08-2008 11:12 PM

Annie, You're looking amazing. Sorry your job isn't working. You'll have to pm
or email me since I missed what happened.
Sandy
