Hi there. I was just looking through all the different boards and since I am a stay at home mom of 2 boys, 6 and 9, who are homeschooled and I am 35 (36 in June) I thought I'd stop by. I could really use the support of other moms that are at home. I don't like to place blame but staying at home all day with two skinny boys who eat constantly is tough! I have about 20-30 lbs to lose to get where I'd like to be for good but haven't quite figured out how to do it. Which program and all that...I've tried them all. I just finished the SB book and thought that sounded at least very "heart" healthy!!!! But I am a carb-aholic and know that is going to be tough. Any suggestions of which probram works well if you are at home 24/7? Easy question huh? I am considering the "staple your mouth shut" diet...so any suggestions at this point will truly be a welcomed one. By the way, does being 30 something work as far as the whole (not) placing blame game? tee hee! oops...I forgot to mention that I am NOT from NJ although I did live there for 4 years between the years of 8-12? Will that work for you all?
Lips! Dont worry about not being from NJ. I have never even been there, oh just remembered I was in a airport for 30 min. As far as what works as a whole for the group. We are all doing it a little different I think. We try and weigh in once a week (some of us are more faithful), watch what we eat and try to exersize more. I am personally trying Slim Fast Optima Shakes for lunch and trying to eat healthy the other meals. I also write my weight down when I do weigh myself and update my tracker. I keep the list on my closet door to remind me whenever I pull out clothes.
RR, I am so sorry to hear about K. She sure sounds like a tomboy!
Lips, Glad to have you with us, and NO, being from NJ is NOT a prerequisite!! Just kinda worked out that way... I too am a carb addict. I used to do WW...should be doing it right now, but I can't seem to get my arse in gear...and it worked great! Being home all day gives you the time to portion out your points, study labels at the supermarket, heck you could even make a math lesson out of it for the kids!
There's a lot of diet reviews on 3fatchicks.com, and in the forums. In the meantime, we're here for ya'!
VAGurl, I hear ya', the hag is visiting me this week and yesterday's WI was NOT pretty...
RR, Geez, tell that pretty little girl to slow down!! Buy her a tea set or something! Poor thing's been injured enough in her little life! I'm just waiting...I think Robby's gonna be my monkey, Peter's too cautious.
Molly, Nice to see you, sorry to hear about your FIL.
to all the newbies! I'm still kind of a newbie, I've been here about three weeks. I love this site!
I cringe when I hear all of your fussy children stories! My kids are 10 and 15, so they may no longer fuss, but believe me they can still throw the tantrums!! My 15 year old daughter just got her driving permit She's doing fairly well, although I did have to scream in panic the other day for her to HIT THE BRAKES!!! I will tell you this, it's quite wonderful to have the "power of the keys"!
Weight loss for last week was five pounds. I did go to Wave two of Sonoma on Thursday, so I imagine it's going to slow down now.
Whew, crazy couple of days here. Alex was sick again so I took him in to the doctor's. He's definitely got all the signs of having allergies (poor kid was doomed with me as a mom.) so he's on Zyrtec, Claritan and Flonase. Whew. We will try it for a month and see how it goes. It seemed to help him feel a little better this afternoon.
Lauren: He's doing great. We are not trying for night-time yet. He's still in pull ups at night. He just doesn't have the control yet. He'll have a couple good nights and then he'll totally soak through everything. Always seems to happen when he's in my bed. Hmmmm.
RR: OMGoodness. Broken nose? Yeeooouuch! That must be awful for her. I'd be all kinds of grumpy and grouchy! My eyes are watering just thinking about it.
VaGurl: Well, there's one good thing about being pregnant! No AF!!
Lips: WELCOME even tho you aren't from NJ!! (only kidding!) I'm glad you found us. Hope we can help.
Sweetsie: Well, Lauren is right. She has the north, I have the middle and you have the south! We are well represented.
Lisa: Cool on the $$! I don't think it sounds like a career I would enjoy. I hate to cook.
Sheila: Oh, I am so not looking forward to driving lessons! I get scared sometimes when DH is driving and he's not a newbie!
OK, girlie keeps kicking the laptop so I guess she's tired of me squishing her head (or is it her legs?). I hope everyone has had a great day!
Lauren, thanks. We're doing much better now. It has brouhgt back a lot of memories of when my dad passed. Mine had chirosis and his had cancer but when they went it was exactly the same. So creepy!!
Sheila, I have driving soon too. I have the man who is 18 mos but then I have two olders. My dd is 14 and ds is 12. Andrea is talking about driving and it just scares the crap out of me!! lol
Lips, I also am not from NJ. However Lisa and I have Toledo well covered! I too am a carb freak and I tried SB but quickly fell off the wagon. I am now doing WW and I love it. I don't feel like there's anything that I can't eat. I just do it in moderation (imagine that) now. This has been the best program for me personally. I don't want to feel like I'm dieting and with this I don't.
Karen, sorry to hear about Alex. My step son (8) has allergies too. He is on claratin and flonase and he does well on that. He also has to have shots in the spring and early summer every month to get him through.
Well I'm off to my Palm sudoku game. I just downloaded it and I'm totally addicted. Gonna do that while I watch AI (I have it recorded). Make it a great night (and day tomorrow)!
Lips, what Molly failed to mention is: Toledo, OH is not that big! But we do know how the people in NJ feel. Ours is just a (much) smaller area of coverage.
OK, I've decided I REALLY need to start doing WW again. I don't know why I can't get my arse in gear. I was telling one of the girls this AM that she looks great. She's on her second round of WW at work and she's lost 17 lbs. so far...think it started in January. I think I'll start by taking inventory of what I have. It was soo much easier to do this when I was single, or even before kids!
So Molly, and anyone else that watched, what did you think of AI last night? I have to agree with the judges that most of them sucked. I thought Bucky, Chris and Paris were the standouts last night. I can't believe Simon put Bucky down! I thought for the first time he did awesome, tried to get a little dancing in, I heard a little range in his voice, and he just plain was in his element! Paris was having a great time, although I agree with Paula, there was nothing "kid" about that performance, or the song! I love Chris, and I still think on talent he'll win. I don't like a lot of heavy rock, but I can appreciate it. I agree with Simon that he has to get out of that rut...just a bit. I don't expect him to sing Celine Dion, as Ryan said, but maybe try something a little different.
Bottom 3: I think it will be the first 3 performers...Lisa, Kellie and Ace. I missed most of Kellie & Ace's performances, but just from the recaps, they weren't great. I was cringing when Lisa opened her mouth to sing....bad song choice.
Karen, Peter wore underwear last night and stayed dry all night!! I was worried, because DH gave him strawberry milk after their bath, which was right before bed...and he had already had strawberry milk with dinner. It'll come, hang in there!
Lauren, do they have a WW group at work? That might be really good for you. Daily support, not that we don't support you. There is a group at school but it is a little pricey for a single college students budget. Besides sometimes we get into a rut and cant see what is going on. At least they are in your area (even though all of NJ is covered )
Yes, they have a WW at Work group. Because I'm still a temp, I didn't get the email that went out about it, I just heard about it after another girl told me she was doing it. I guess I'll have to find out when the next round starts up. Could drive me crazy though, it will really bother me to WI at lunch time, with clothes on and food in my stomach!
Well I finially weighed myself today and it wasnt pretty AF really messed me up this week. The scales say that I went up 2 pounds. I am hoping it is from bloating due to AF. Well I have to get some things done before I go to work. Hope everyone has a great day.
Lisa, when I used to go to WW, I used to wear basically the same thing...bike shorts, lightweight tshirt and lightweight socks. I'd take my sneakers off, and in the winter I'd take my sweats off! It's just crazy!
VA, yeah, the hag sucks...she's been threatening here all week...I just wish she'd come and get it over with! I've been trying to overload on water.
Lauren! Too funny. AF is here too. Evil thing! As far as AI goes I wasn't really impressed with any of them except for Chris. I didn't like him at first but he's a rocker at heart and I am too. I've loved everything he's done. The thing I don't like about the judges is that they say to get out of the rut but then if he does something different, they'll tell him that he sold out and didn't stay true to himself. If they sing a song exactly then they say that they should make it their own and if they change it up, they say they took too big a risk and no one would recognize the song. I kinda though Lisa would be the one to go. Kelly Clarkson is a hard one to measure up to and she just didn't have the power voice to pull that off!
Anyway, I have a ton of phone calls to make for softball stuff. Make it a great day everyone.
Things are OK here. Eating has been fair. I go for my 3 hour test in two weeks, so I guess I better start eating better!
I don't watch AI, so I've no idea what that's all about!
The weather has been awesome here, so we've been outside a lot. I think Alex is giving up naps and I already miss them! He goes to bed a lot easier when he hasn't had one tho!
