  • Annie, I think actually it's usually the week before, when you're PMS'ing, that you hold on to some water weight.
  • Evening ladies...

Well today I took my mother to the doctor's. I had some gift certificates for Red Lobster, so we decided to have lunch together. Ugh! I went way overboard! But in my defense, I just got home from the gym. I was on the eliptical for about a half hour, did about ten minutes of this grueling cardio circuit they used to beat us up with in the police academy, and did a half hour of weightlifting. I still don't think I even made a dent in my caloric intake from that one meal. Oh well, tomorrow will just be a light day.

Annie...you mentioned your hips hurting from jogging. Speaking of the police academy, I had a lot of problems with my hips when I was there. We ran all the time, then we'd run some more, and oh yeah I think we did some more running! It was tough keeping up with those 21 year old boys (I was 29 when I graduated). The PT instructors suggested I get gel inserts for my sneakers. And you know what? It worked! So maybe you could try those. They worked wonders for me.

Symple...Welcome! Keep on moving forward! Don't let one day get you down.

phantastica...since I'm new or maybe I missed the post, what job are you going after? Good luck on the interview!

LBH...you asked about when this weight loss occurred. Hmmmm, well that's difficult to explain. My highest weight was 320 when I was about 14 or 15. I dropped down to my all time low of 210 at age 26 or 27. I went into the police academy in January 2004 at 218. Got out of the academy at 225. All muscle though! Then I started working the street in a stressful environment, crazy long hours, and dealing with my mom's cancer. It took me a little more than a year to emotionally eat myself to 269. So I guess technically my starting weight should be 269. But it was a mental thing with me and I had to post my highest weight to remind myself of my accomplishment. My very first big weight loss from the 320 to 210 happened gradually over the years. But the biggest part came off in my early 20's when I lost approximately 100 pounds. That took about a year to do. Now that I've totally confused you...anymore questions?

Well, back to work tomorrow. Everyone think of me as I drag my butt out of bed at 4:30 am to go to the gym, and then off to work for twelve hours. Ugh! Have a happy day everyone!

I think he says it's fine to weigh yourself every day, but you should track it so you can see the overall pattern and not get discouraged by small spikes.
  • Ok.. so I did some research and yes it seems that anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks before TOM you experience bloating, and all the other PMS related sides effects. So.. now I am wondering did I actually lose another 2 lbs. Not sure but I decided that maybe I shouldn't weigh myself everyday. DH made a point that if I see if flucuate too much that I might just get to frustrated and give up. GOOD point. I probably would do that. SO if I have to weigh myself more then the Sunday weigh in I am going to try to do it during the middle of the week, but really I am going to do it just once if I can help it. More of a surprise when Sunday gets here.

Thanks for the idea of the gel inserts. I am going to have to look into that. That just might be what I am looking for. Speaking of shoes, I got an amazing deal off of ebay about a week and a half ago. For $20 I got 2 brand new pairs of Skechers sneakers. I of course had to pay $5.65 for shipping, but still what a deal. I have been wanting some new sneakers for walking and maybe jogging more but found them to be so expensive. I think I got a good deal. I splurged. I figured it was a b-day gift for me.

Ok.. so I have been doing good eating wise. Need to pick up the exercising more but feel like I am having an ok week so far. I still am having issues with dinner. I tend to eat more then I should, but I am working to get that under control. I hope you are doing well. Off to get a shower.
  • Whoo Hoo!

I totally have to weigh myself everyday, too much temptation I got on and thought the scale was lying today! I weighed myself 4 times in a row..same number 192.5..I lost a pound and a half!!!
  • Congrats on the loss Symple . I have tried to cut back on the weighing. I find that I get to caught up in the numbers. Especially if one day I am up and then next day I am down. I usualy weigh at the same time each day. Plus I was getting on the scale more then once a day. I guess for me I realized that it just wasn't very productive or healthy for me. So I am trying to weigh myself on Sunday only and if I really need to weigh again, I try to do it on Wednesday or Thursday. That way when Sunday comes and it's a good loss I can feel really good about it. Not that I wouldn't feel good about anyways. But we all have to do what's good for us and right now cutting back on the weighing is a good thing for me.

How is everyone doing? Good here. Having spaghetti for dinner tonight. Trying to plan out a good strategy to over doing it on the pasta. DH makes a killer sauce and I always go overboard on eating. So just want to make sure I don't over do it. I was thinking having a big salad on the side and maybe adding some leftover chicken to my pasta and sauce so it will be filling. I'm thinking with less pasta and the chicken to replace it I'll be satisfied and get full but not of a ton of pasta. Any suggestions. Ok.. off to read some email.

Keep up the good work everyone.

I didn't specify yet, but it's a job that's similar to what I do now (data analysis) only about two levels higher! The interview went well, but I know better than to get my hopes up too high.

DS is having a pretty rocky time with his dad. His dad doesn't have the 15 years' experience that I've had day in and day out with DS, and he doesn't always handle teenage things well. His dad also doesn't spend evenings pouring over parenting books finding out what's normal, either. Anyway, DS is with me and I'm driving him to and from school daily (70 miles, round trip, 2x daily! Ick!) until we can figure out the best solution to the problem. It hasn't sent me into stress eating, so I'm thankful for that.
  • Phanta:Good luck hun on the job. I hope things work out with your DS. And Congrats on not stress eating. That's a good step in the right direction. That's alot of miles. May I ask why 2x a day? Keep up the good work. Rooting for ya.
  • hello all. I came back and then went missing again - sorry! - life gets so busy! I have hurt my arm and can't play tennis for 2 weeks so maybe I'll have more time for posting on the computer.

Lots of new people! Wow, that's great. I looked over the bios but I'm sure it will take me awhile to get everyone straight.

Some great weight losses out there - wish I could remember who - will have to start taking notes again. I just really kind of skimmed through the posts because there were so many.

My brother got married a couple weeks ago and my sister had a baby (on my birthday!) so there's been lots of family stuff going on. I even got to babysit my 9 month old nephew for 3 days - lots of fun; he's a good baby.

I have to give up lifting weights for a couple weeks also. I think part of the reason my arm is hurt is that I have been very sporadic in my weight lifting for the past 2 months. I believe weight lifting keeps me from injuries. Now I am riding the bike and planning to do some hiking for my exercise during this time period.

gotta get back to work - have a great day everyone.

  • Hey all
Haven't been able to get on the PC for a few days DH has been hogging it.
Haven't had the best start this week stress eating due to issues at work but today is a new day and I know I can do this.
Still LOL at the OCSW ( obsessive compulsive scale weighing).
This is me too. I know I should only weigh once a week but I just can't help myself, I have to weigh everyday.
I'm going to try and make a real effort this week. I think I'll weigh myself tomorrow morning and then put my scales away in the garage for the week.
    I can do it....well maybe.
Great to see those losses, I hope to join you next week.
    Luise
  • Hello everyone,

I could have sworn I posted, I guess I dreamed it! I'm down another 1 1/2 pounds for a total of 9 1/2!! Whooohooo! I'm so happy. We went into Phase II yesterday, so I hope adding the carbs back in doesn't hurt me. I understand that the loss will slow now, I hope it just doesn't stall.

We've been pretty busy around here. I've been scrapbooking and running after Alex. That's been wearing me out!

    Congrats to all the loosers!

Rabbit: I'm sorry about your arm. I hope it heals quickly.

Hope y'all are having a great day!
  • Quote: Phanta:That's alot of miles. May I ask why 2x a day?
I drive 35 miles to drop him off at school, drive 35 miles to work. When school is done I drive 35 miles to pick him up, then 35 miles back to my house. That makes for 140 miles a day, and if I were smart I'd get one of DS's literature-class books on tape! Hey, I might just do that.

::: off to amazon.com, or at least the library's web site :::
  • OMG, I just lost my whole catch up post!!! Robby grabbed the mouse and clicked "back" and darnit, it's gone!!! I'll try again when he's asleep!
  • Karen - thanks for the good wishes on my arm. I am wearing a brace and got a shot yesterday that not only made my arm feel better but also my temporary crown that I got put on this week! ~ Congrats on your great losses.

Lauren - I started a new food journal for the week. Would you mind "stickying" it for me?? Thanks.

Phantastica - that is a lot of mileage!

    gotta run. Rabbit
  • OMG, what a horrible could of days. I completely went off the diet, just lived a little for 2 days but back on track as of tomorrow (or today since its 1:25 am). I was away at my sister house and out and about and then back home late and had pizza for dinner at son's school party. But hey I could have had that cupcake but didn't, that I was proud of. I've been doing atkins and thinking about going back to WW. Not sure, any one have any ideas on the matter??
LBH : what did you mean by AF? Tried to do that whole quote thing but it didn't work for me.
Will talk to you all tomorrow..gotta run to bed.
