Hello everyone, I am back from vacation! I did some camping with my dog for three days, and then spent this past week, cleaning out closets and storage rooms! I went off the diet for the past week (I think I needed a little mental break) and I lost 2.5 lbs. So back on the wagon again to work towards that December goal. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by Katrina.
Glad to see some familiar faces here, and some new ones. As you can see from my signature, I've been a BAD girl and now I've got to get all this weight off AGAIN!
So I hope y'all don't mind if I pop back in here.
Vicki - so glad to hear that you & your family are o.k! It's amazing how much devastation there is down there. You're all in our prayers.
Lauren - my goodness Peter has grown!!! and Robby is adorable as well!
Karen - your son is adorable too with those curls!
Rabbit - good to see you again. Sounds like you've been away as well. I can't believe your son is now a 3L!
It is amazing how time flies. My DD is now a senior in high school and working on college applications. DS is a freshman in high school and it just doesn't seem possible!
Unfortunately, the past few years I've let my good exercise and eating habits slide and my weight has been creeping up and up. I had to have some surgery last fall which threw my hormones out of whack for a while, and ever since then it's been horrible. But it's all my fault, I have just had no motivation to do anything about it. But it's time! I rededicated myself last week, and since Friday I've been tracking my eating and doing well. Haven't gotten back to exercise yet, but that will come! I cannot believe I've let myself get this heavy again, after all the hard work to get rid of the weight a few years ago. But I've done it before, so I know I can do it again, and hopefully this time I'll have the determination to keep it OFF!!!
Hello all!!!Hello to Legal and Rabbit...Just like old times with new faces!!!
Melissa--Thing are much better here now that FEMA has the "portable hospitals" under control..I was surprised yesterday when they didnt need any local volunteers cuz of the out of staters!!! YEAH!!! We gladly welcome everyone!!It really helps since we are all full time in our regular hospitals with increased census...Thanks to all the states for their help!! (speaking for LA and MS)I ran into a Doc from Idaho with 12 nurses...It is great!!!!
Lauren--U asked about here???My 5 mile drive to work takes 1.5hrs---There is no gasoline or the lines are 45 minutes minumum--no meat in any store(thank goodness I dont eat it-the kids are sick of frozen chicken breasts or hot dogs --no such thing as running into the store for a quickie--My thoughts are that "no amount of inconvenience equals what these poor people have been through"..John Travolta has been here, Oprah, The President etc etc...I just wish everyone would quit blaming each other and get the jobs cleaned up in MS and La...We still have a long road but we are on the way!!!
Take care all...off to sit down and watch Oprah
PS--Still have until Nov 30th for Hurricane season to be over..Praying that Maria just moves on to nowhere and goes away!!!
RR
"I just wish everyone would quit blaming each other and get the jobs cleaned up in MS and La...We still have a long road but we are on the way!!!" I heard that someone blamed the President for the hurricane hitting N.O. - Like he has control over the weather.
I am glad that things are slooooowly getting back to normal. Do you have enough stamina to either walk or ride a bike to work? If I did, I think that is what I would choose. Not only saving money and gas, but think of the weight loss. (a little bit of silver lining?)
LE, WELCOME BACK!!! Wow, it's nice to see all the old faces...er...I mean, I'm sorry you have to be here...you KWIM!
RR, I was going to suggest the walk to work idea also, but that may leave you too pooped for work. I hope all the celebs are there to honestly help out, not just to get their faces there to look good. I saw Sean Penn and Harry Connick Jr. on TV. They seemed to be genuinely helping. I think HC actually gave some old man the shirt off his back! He's a local boy, isn't he?
CLL, Welcome back! You've been a busy one! Congrats on the loss!
Trish, Life is never boring on the farm, huh?
ER, WOW!! Congrats on the BIG loss!! Keep up the good work!
Jen, We're having more issues with peeing, than pooping on the potty. Today he was hilarious though. He walked around holding his penis all day...he was butt naked most of the day! I keep asking him every 20 minutes or so if he has to go, just to remind him that he's not wearing any pants. All of a sudden he runs to the sliders, which are open, and pees through the screen!! I just about died when I realized what he was doing!! He did get a little on the carpet, but I don't get mad at him, I just tell him that he has to tell me right away if he has an accident, so I can clean it up. Then later we were up in my kitchen and he was using the potty seat as a step stool, so he could "wash" dishes. All of a sudden he was scrambling and the lid flew open and he pee'd really quick in the potty! Missed a little, but at least he's getting the point!
I have really been horrible eating today. Soo angry with myself. There's icecream in the house right now, and that's just trouble for me. And I'm bored...how bored could I be with 2 kids all day?! Today was a bad day....I ran away to the grocery store when DH came home! Hey, we needed milk and baby food! I was soo frustrated though, I stopped at Wendy's to p/u dinner on the way home, because our A/C is not working for some reason today, and i didn't feel like cooking...even though there's plenty of stuff in the house.
I think tomorrow I will get up and shower before DH leaves for work. That way I don't have to plan a shower around naps, and I might actually make it out of the house before 6 pm!! Think I'll take the boys to the playground, then maybe the mall for a nice walk.
Lauren and LP----Hmmmm...walk or ride the bike to work???It is far too dangerous for a woman to be alone at 4am on the interstate or back roads to even think about that..We had a drive by shooting yesterday(not too common but it happens)where someone shot a man in a yard for no reason(poor man happened to be from NO)..No thanks on that..esp after we had 2 different serial killers caught around here...DH was upset cuz his 30 mile ride from work took until 6:30 to get home and with daycares closing at 6pm and charging $1/min he is having fits.(left work at 4pm)My daycare decided to go up $25/month, and charge everyone a $35 registration fee(I have been here since K was 3 months old) and now a $50 curriculum fee..It makes me sick how everyone wants a quick buck cuz we have about 100,000 more people around..Harry Connick is a local NO boy..He had the coolest Mardi Gras parade on Monday night before Fat Tuesday...
I had to watch OPrah and it made me cry..THe pets and the kids still make me cry..What a horrible situation...They found a Nursing Home under water where no one evacuated..It seems like it gets worse daily...
Lisa--the blame game is between our Governer(and her people) and the President(and his people) FEMA etc about the help comming..I dont know what those issues were, but someone screwed up majorly by waiting soo long to get those poor people out...
Ok--back to the diet issues..I have to get back on track..should be easy with just frozen chicken breasts and tuna~~~
Take care all..COngrats to the Losers!!!!

I won't run through roll call until I get to know all the new and returning FC's. but just a quick hello to each and every one of you!!
Well - my life just got a bit simpler - due to internal conflicts and petty differences - the Fire Dept relieved from duty my Chief and Medical Officer (asst chief) and as a result of my disgust over the whole affair - I think I quit. I say I think, because I am curious to see if any of the NEW people ask me to stay, but after dwelling on it all night - I think it is for the best. Going back now would be like being the kid that was teachers pet and suddenly the teacher got fired and the new teacher didnt care for the kid. Know what I mean?
Anyway - it will free up loads of time that I can concetrate on getting my personal life in order and helping DH prepare for winter. I don't know if he will quit or not - I imagine he will just because he has been tired of it for a while - I was too - and I think we only stayed this long for the sake of the Chief who is no longer chief.
Seems rather miniscule in comparison to the real issues in the world...
Well - it is time to go feed the animals - later ladies.
Hope everyone has had a great day. My eating wasn't too bad today, not that it was great, but at least it hasn't consisted of large amounts of chocolate. Which is what I am craving. AF is due any day and I always crave chocolate SO much.
RR: I watched the Oprah show and it was so sad. I was surprised at some of it. You hear that there are bodies everywhere, but the lady on the side of the bridge really got to me. I hope things are good for you. Nope, don't walk or ride your bike. It's definitely not a safe idea. How are your girls holding up?
Rabbit: Yeah on the loss!
AJ: What did you do for the fire department? I'm sorry if you've already told us on another thread. I did try to open another window and check, but the page wouldn't load. My brother is a paramedic in a suburb of Dallas. Hope things are more peaceful for you.
Lauren: Isn't fun when you can't get a shower in? And your thinking, I'm here all day, why can't I just get clean? While DH was away I went days without a shower. Everytime I'd try to get in, Alex was there. Trying to climb in! How is the job search going?
Karen - I was a Volunteer First Responder which in Oregon is the lowest level of EMT and a firefighter in training, plus I was the chiefs secretary, I was on the safety committee and my husband who was also a First Responder and a Firefighter was also the maintenence person.
It was a lot of politics and back stabbing and local yocals deciding what was best for the rest of us - even with townspeople present practically begging that they not tear up the department. Oh well - it was far too time consuming anyway and the beeper could go off any minute so better not have a drink with dinner or better remember to keep it on me all the damn time.
I just didnt care for the way it was done - they didnt like the chief - fine - tell him - don't spend months making him think everything is fine while you put together a replacement team - it was a total railroad job and I was disgusted at the whole proceding - they didnt just want them fired - they wanted there names dragged through the mud and they did it.
sorry for the rant - I am still bitter as it has been 24 hrs only.
AJ: Yikes! That's an awful story. You'd think they would be more thankful for people that are willing to give their time. Hope things settle for your community and the former cheif/asst cheif reputations weren't harmed.
Yesterday wasnt a good day for me. I am at school from 11 am to 9:45pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. I do have like a 3 1/2 hour break between classes, but I work so mainly I am on campus all day. I normally take a sandwich for my break in the first class and then something to heat up in the microwave between work and the second class. Last night the teacher was going to bring in pizza, so I only packed a Lean Cusine for after my first class (I figured I could hold out til 1:30ish) and so I had that right before work. Before class #2 they were giving away free food so I had that, (the teacher said we could do that instead) and when I got home I made another sandwich. Plus I had a piece of Chocolate cake. I am sooo stressing from homework.
