I'm so stressed right now, I feel like I could just sit and cry for hours. My parents have planned a huge family reunion at Disney World in May of 2007, which we thought was great! Well now it looks like DH and I won't be able to go because we just don't have the money to do it! It may seem silly to some of you, ecause we only have to pay for our plane fare and spending money, about $2000 or so, but in 8 months we just won't be able to do it. Right now we barely can buy groceries every month, because most of our money goes to bills, rent and perscription meds ($250/month) .

DH is the only one working, and I've been applying for jobs of any kind for the past 6 months with NOTHING coming from any of them, which frustrates me because I know that if I HAD a job then we'd be able to go! I feel like a complete failure!

So now we have to tell my parents that we can't go! I don't know what to do! I'm so disappointed, mostly in myself! Boy this is sure not helping the whole losing weight thing....that was the whole "reward" for losing the weight!

Aww - I'm so sorry! I'm a student, so I know how hard it can be to get that sort of money together - it doesn't seem silly to me at all. What about talking to your parents and seeing if you could borrow it from them? I really don't like borrowing money from people, but I've done it before when it's been for something really important, and it's been worth it. Maybe you could make a deal with them that you'll get together as much as you can before then, and they'll lend you the difference? I really hope this works out for you!

Could your parents maybe help out with the money, and then you pay them back or something?

I can totally understand, DH had to miss a minivacation with his parents last year. If your parents can help you with the money it could be part of a Christmas, Birthday, and Anniversary gift.

I am so sorry to hear you may not get to go. I do know how it feels. Last yr. me and DH had planned and saved all yr. for a cruise and were to go in May. On the 13th of April I had to have surgery and our savings went for the medical bills instead. We're now saving and going to try again to go next summer if something else doesn't come up. Maybe your parents can help and you can continue to search for employment and slowly repay them. That would be great.

Nicole and I got married on 9-9-06. I had to have emergency surgery on 7-27-06. We haven't had a honeymoon because all our money ($2k+) went to the doctor's bills. And the bills are still rolling in.

If you can't postpone (or ask your parents to) and really can't save between now and then, ask to borrow. Make a good faith effort to save $20 a paycheck even.

We had to take out a loan to pay for the wedding so we have that bill on top of the rest. I soooo hear you. Good luck and HUGS!

I sympathize on many levels! We're always dealing with money issues. At one point we had so much debt it was ridiculous. And yes, I felt responsible because I didn't have a job. Like you I applied for every job possible and got no interest past a couple first interviews. It's sooo hard and you feel worthless and guilty. Just hang in there. Talk to your parents and see what you can do about the reunuion. And good luck with the job search.

Thanks everyone! I feel a little better about things. I can't ask my parents to give me any money, because they are having their own issues right now with trying to pay for a new roof for their house, and they need a new car DESPERATELY! It's crazy! I'm going to try and pick up some odd jobs here and there, I've applied and re-applied to temp agencies, and got nothing from them. Truly discouraging! Keep plugging away!

I totally understand but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I was in MAJOR debt and have slowly paid most of it off I'm talking credit cards bills, student loans, on top of all the basics rent, household bills and car payments. It is possible!
