He did apologize for what he said, and that he does love the way I look. He's been really great this week, very supportive. He wants to start getting more active too, so maybe we'll be able to do this together. He's not overweight at all really, he's just gained a bit of a belly in the last few years that he isn't happy about.

and thankfully... lol it hasn't hurt us in the intimacy department

I'm glad that you guys have been able to work things out and I hope that he never says anything like that again. I'm a peer-educator at school and one of the things that we teach is that unhealthy relationships usually have a cycle, or a pattern.

Saying something hurtful like that once is a mistake, but if he tried to emotionally hurt you like that again I hope you'll consider getting out.
Anyway, sorry for being a downer! Working out together is a great way to bond.
