Samantha - sometimes I still can't see my weight loss - at -75 lbs.! It's a mindset a lot of the time I think. As for pants sizes and things of that nature, I didn't notice that until my 22s were falling off of me - the first time I went to the store to buy clothes after I'd started losing weight, I had to buy 16s! I don't remember the first few sizes at all. It seems to take about 20-30 lbs. for me to drop a size usually.
Tye - Samantha's right - drink a lot of water. Also, watch your sodium intake. And the absolute best way to up the metabolism? Eat 3 meals a day that are nutritious, do cardio 4-5 times a week and lift weights. There is a great article in FITNESS magazine this month about it - really interesting. |
Tye,
I am fairly sure that Samantha is correct about the water. Don't get discouraged if you don't notice any change when just beginning to drink water. I try and think like camels the more you drink the less you need to store (I am a bio nerd :) |
How is everyone progressing at their goals? Mine are going good - Last night my hubby got me a gym membership and I was scared to death to go this morning, but I finally did. I got up to the door and watched as a really hot guy walked into the gym, and almost turned around and went back home. BUT I went in (and didn't see that guy again the whole time I was there) and walked on the treadmill. I only stayed for about 30 minutes, but I consider this to be an accomplishment because I actually went outside my comfort zone.

Well, I was doing great until last night!
I knew my parents were taking me out to dinner at a really yummy italian restaurant for my bday so I was good on the calories the rest of the day. But, I think that meal alone (baked spaghetti) blew all of my hard work all of the rest of the week. Not to mention my hubby taking me out for drinks last night after dinner. The one good thing I can say is that up until yesterday I had lost 2 pounds (in 6 days) but that was with me averaging burning 500 calories more than I eat. Now, on average for the week I am about even. So, starting today, I am back at burning 500 more than I eat. I won't weigh in again until Sat. because I don't want to discourage myself. Anyone have any ideas for low calorie alcoholic drinks? I know alcohol is "empty calories". I don't hardly get the chance to go out at all, but when I do, am I totally blowing everything I have worked so hard for just to have a couple drinks? I am so proud of everyone doing so well! Sam- GREAT job on going into the gym. :cheer: Maybe I will think more on using the gym here at school with the 98lb. 18 yr olds if you can walk in after seeing such a hotty! :) I went to Curves for my tour, but its not for me. Before my knee injury I was a pretty active athlete. I don't think I could take my workout seriously if it involved parts of kicking along with music. I think it is great for people who just want to get moving, and have some fun doing it, but not good for me. I need weights and an elliptical machine. Or, my new Tae Bo tapes are arriving this week, maybe that will work. In the meantime, I will keep walking. LSB |
well I am still going. Not as strong as before but my body needed a rest from working out today. I did do 40 minutes of circuit training so that is good but I wanted to do my taebo and walk too. I may walk later tonight but am not sure yet. Taebo will be done tomorrow though. I just needed a break. Other then that I am doing well.
Samantha- good job on going to the gym and getting out of your "comfort zone". I would love to get back to a gym but am okay with waiting a while Lawstudent- Which taebo tapes are you getting? I still have the basic and advanced ones from long ago but saw an informercial about Billy Blanks newest. I would love to try those out |
Sam - isn't THE GYM the most intimidating thing in the world? Sigh - I've finally gotten used to it - and I go to the gym at the uni w/all the tiny chicks.
LSB - A treat every once in awhile is okay - as long as it stays a treat. Sounds like you're already ready to be back on track - which is awesome! Gabwill - we all need a break sometime - good for you for listening to your body! I'm doing well still - getting back to work and to the gym - can't wait to get into my schedule for the school year. I'm taking two "pe" classes - softball and tennis. It should be fun and I"m looking forward to it. OH - and I tried on a pair on size 10 trousers today - and they fit!!!! |
Samantha!!! You go girl. Kick those skinny minnies butts! Show 'em you're committed to your health!
Jenicra: woo hoo! new pants! Good for you :D Congrats to all who are meeting your goals! For me, I'm scared to look at the scale. I haven't eaten the best the past couple of days. But I'm about ready to post about my reasons for that on the weekly chatting thread. Damn emotional eating! So a half ounce of water for every pound huh? Wow. I guess I should pretend I'm Nemo or something. Well, tomorrow morning I'll check the scale. Gulp!!! |
LSB - I wouldn't worry too much about your birthday dinner and drinks. When I go out, I try to stay away from beer, as it has many many many calories in it. Tequila (which is my drink of choice) has 110 calories per oz, however, according to a website. I have also found that the more I have, the less I care about my diet LOL so I have to be careful.
gabwill - Congrats on the Taeboe and circuit training. I have always wanted to do Taeboe. Maybe one day. It doesn't look like you need to go to the gym, with your workout. I was getting tired of Pilates and walking - besides it gets really cold and icy here in the winter and I was worried about what I would do this winter. jenicra - CONGRATULATIONS on the new pant size!! I would KILL to be in a size 10!!! (One day!!) :cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer: skinned knees: when I first started this diet, I did not want to get on the scale, either. I begged and begged my husband not to make me, but I am glad I did, because I knew where I was starting out. If I hadn't gotten on the scale, I would have given up by now because I can't SEE any difference yet, the only difference is the number on the scale. Good luck to all - is anyone going to dress up for Halloween? What are you going to be???? |
I love Halloween Samantha! I have thought about dressing up but I have no Idea what I would be. I have only been here for about 7 months so I dont have many friends. I do have one friend and she happens to have a 5 year old and a 3 year old. I could go out trick or treating with them! That would be fun, but I also love to dress up so I can pass candy out to the kids. Maybe this year I can be a witch or a kitty cat, but I am not sure....
What are you giong to be Samantha? tye |
Tye - I also love Halloween - it is one of my favorite holidays!! I have no idea what I am going to be (I always go trick or treating w/ my nephew :) ) but I want to dress up. Probably I will wait until it gets closer to time because I don't know how much I will weigh (hopefully about 260) so we will just see. Some possible ideas are: a nerd (wear thick glasses w/ pants that are too short and a button up shirt with a calculator in the pocket) maybe just a witch something like that, I don't really know yet.

Nothing but smiles
I exercised today! The first time in weeks and it felt so nice. I decided that since I felt so crappy about myself this morning I needed to do something about it since I am the only one that can do anything about it.
I also went to fitday.com and decided that even though I watch what I eat I need to start keeping a written track of it so that I can check my progress and keep a better out for what I am doing wrong. :comp: I feel like I am on the right track again, and I dont want to fall off. I went and bought a new scale because my other scale was give inconsistant results, :goodscale so tomorrow when I weigh in I will know exactly where I stand. I am expecting a gain :s: but that is okay I will recover and continue to do good. I feel so good right now! :encore: (If you cant tell!) Tye |
Tye- great job on exercising! I usually feel better after I have too. It is like I am accomplishing something. :)
gabwill- I have been using the Tae Bo Live preview tape along with the 8 min mini workout. If I can't get myself up to walk, I at least have NO excuse for not doing an 8 min tape. Sometimes that gets me motivated and awake enough to put in the Live Preview tape right after that. I gave my Basic and Advanced tapes to a friend a couple years ago (who lost tons of weight using them) and I just got them back a couple days ago so I will start on those again. I haven't seen his new tapes except for the preview. Samantha- I go to a costume party every year for Halloween0 I love it! This year my husband and I were going to go as Willy Wonka and an Oompa Loompa- (there is a foot difference in our heights) But now he is going to be out of town for work. I might go as that anyway since I already have all the stuff. Wish me luck on the costume contest! jenicra- CONGRATS on the size 10 pants. That is beyond awesome! LSB |
omg!! you guys are doing so awesome, congrats everyone on your sucsees, What I've been doing mostly is eating lots of fruits and veggies, and water, n excersize, i do 45 on the tredmill 5 times a week, and I do basketball which i know helps alot!

well I did my taebo to make up for yesterday's laziness and did my power90 tape. I didn't do any walking nor running today but I didn't get motivated to do any of my workout until about 6 this afternoon. Not good but atleast I did it. Tomorrow I figured that I could go and try onclothes since that always gets me motivated again. It'll feel good to do it and get out alone for a while. I haven't had that in a while and need it.
jenicra- yes, I did need to listen to my body otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do anything today. LSB- I still like the live ones. I finally feel confident enough to do the advanced one. I hope taht I can keep up. I will probably be sore on sunday but that is my day off so that is fine by me. I just want to see if I can do it. Oh, and don't feel bad about not walking, I have been skipping out on that part of my workout for a few days now but need to go back to it. |
Hey guys...so tell me what I should do about this problem. My friend keeps saying that she wants to go with me to work out - and she does...sometimes. Yesterday we had a really good day at the gym and she was talking all day about how good it felt to go back to the gym. So we were supposed to go this morning, and she cancelled on me!! She does that frequently. She is always talking about how tired she is...blah blah blah. I just don't understand, she is already way skinnier than me!! Shouldn't she be dragging ME to the gym? Also I am irritated because she acts like she is on this "diet" with me, but she always has a coke, is going to KFC for lunch, etc. And on top of that, she always asks me if I want some? Well, no....I actually AM on a diet, and not just :censored: -ing around...
