Ok, first: Wooo ladies in DC! Welcome to the city, FreeBird! I've been here about a year now and love it, but it can be tough to make friends here. Everyone seems to have such a transitory mindset, and I think that makes people a little closed off.

I struggle with the same thing. Especially when the bar is having some really good special ("$1 rails? Obviously, I should have five!"). Maybe find a drink that you can have one and then order an alcohol-free version of and it will look the same (like club soda, vodka, and a splash of cranberry looks the same as a club soda with a splash of cranberry)?

I also struggle with this - I'm heading out with some girlfriends for drinks and dinner tonight actually. I tried to eat very healthily yesterday and today so far, and put in a good gym session this morning. This is my first social outing since calorie counting, so we'll see how I go!

I've been the odd one out for 8 years. I don't drink and that's been just fine.
