I'm not 20-something here, but it's common for a certain kind of guy to berate women who refuse them sexually by projecting *their* inappropriateness onto you rather than acknowledging the (EXTREME) inappropriateness of the request in the first place. Some will do this even when you're just expressing a preference or slowing things down. A normal guy will be disappointed, but accommodate what you feel comfortable with or else say, "Well, we're looking for different things" and leave it at that.
So in his head, you're weirdly conservative and he doesn't have to acknowledge his own (SUBSTANTIAL) weirdness. [The bracketed words are my opinion on the matter, heh.].
And yeah, in any relationship, as you say, you can have any kind of fun you want as long as you both agree on it.
